One of you call them enemies...the other one calls them terrorists!

Posted By: Make up your mind! on 2008-09-19
In Reply to: I would be nice if life was a fairytale. - Terrorists dont become your friend.nm

Could you please figure out what you are talking about and let the rest of us know? Are you talking about enemies (people who do not like the US) or terrorists (people who want to destroy the US). Do you really believe that Obama is friends with terrorists? What right-wing rag baloney have you been buying lock, stock, and barrel?

Funny - Huffington is one of those who wants to call real terrorists "criminals".
Acts of terrorism and acts of hatred are not necessarily the same thing. The defining characteristic of terrorism is the objective of instilling fear in the GENERAL POPULATION of a society in order to bring about some sort of desired change in policy, government, etc. Usually, this is accomplished by indiscriminate (as opposed to discriminate) acts or threats of violence involving innocent civilians.

The murder of Dr. Tiller does not fit any definition of terrorism that I've had occasion to study or deal with.

It's also ironic in the extreme that one of the nation's chief hate-mongers (who claims freedom of speech for HERSELF) is calling for "accountability" for hate speech, doncha think? That she does so by presuming to tell us what O'Reilly does or does not think only makes her all the more comical - or pathetic, whichever you prefer.

The nation doesn't need lessons on hate speech from the likes of Huffington - except perhaps as an exemplar of it.
What enemies?
You need to get clear on this. Please name one Iraqi who attacked US either prior to, or on 9/11? Your hatred is distored by the lies you've been told and have eagerly accepted and simply is not based in reality. Our pre-emptive attack on Iraq and subsequent occupation is CREATING more bloodshed and creating a whole new generation of fired-up terrorists, as well as attracting foreign terrorists to Iraq to kill our soldiers. What do you want to do, keep trying to kill all Iraqis until none are left? Is that the goal? How many is enough? Are you really brain-damaged enough to think that one day if we just stay long enough and sacrifice enough of our soldiers that all terrorists will be dead and we can all sail off to la-la land happily ever after?
Thanks for enabling our enemies. You do know sm
they will kill you first.  But keep on talking, it just makes them stronger.  You're an idiot not to see it.
I posted about enemies...sm

Same thing.

With friends like al-Qaida, who needs enemies?

Between this endorsement and the presto-change-o on taxing our a$$es off (& that means those making $42K, but it changes all the time) and giving that $ to those who don't even pay taxes, what more is there to say?  Seriously, people?  Y'all can give your extra $ to me since you like paying MORE taxes.  If that's the case, don't come here griping about making less $.  Y'all obviously don't need or want it!

Enabling our enemies. You're joking right???sm
You should be writing Bush a letter to the same effect.

-Thank you Mr. President for making Iraq a hot bed for terrorist and giving the taliban the fuel they needed for growth. -
I agree, talk to your enemies, keep communication open sm
The worst thing is to cut off communication. Tell me more about Rumsfeld.
Lets talk about the torture of our soldiers by our enemies
Electrocution, beatings, broken bones, etc, etc, oh and their favorite of all times....beheadings.

The witch hunt should end here. What happened, happened. It's done and your god is in their now. I may have not liked what went on in the last administration (reason why I voted them out), but there is no reason to burn Bush/Cheney at the stake. What the other side does is 100 times worse.
Air Force chief: Test weapons on US citizens before using on enemies.

Air Force chief: Test weapons on testy U.S. mobs

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Nonlethal weapons such as high-power microwave devices should be used on American citizens in crowd-control situations before being used on the battlefield, the Air Force secretary said Tuesday.

The object is basically public relations. Domestic use would make it easier to avoid questions from others about possible safety considerations, said Secretary Michael Wynne.

If we're not willing to use it here against our fellow citizens, then we should not be willing to use it in a wartime situation, said Wynne. (Because) if I hit somebody with a nonlethal weapon and they claim that it injured them in a way that was not intended, I think that I would be vilified in the world press.

The Air Force has paid for research into nonlethal weapons, but he said the service is unlikely to spend more money on development until injury problems are reviewed by medical experts and resolved.

Nonlethal weapons generally can weaken people if they are hit with the beam. Some of the weapons can emit short, intense energy pulses that also can be effective in disabling some electronic devices.

On another subject, Wynne said he expects to choose a new contractor for the next generation aerial refueling tankers by next summer. He said a draft request for bids will be put out next month, and there are two qualified bidders: the Boeing Co. and a team of Northrop Grumman Corp. and European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co., the majority owner of European jet maker Airbus SAS.

The contract is expected to be worth at least $20 billion (&euro15.75 billion).

Chicago, Illinois-based Boeing lost the tanker deal in 2004 amid revelations that it had hired a top Air Force acquisitions official who had given the company preferential treatment.

Wynne also said the Air Force, which is already chopping 40,000 active duty, civilian and reserves jobs, is now struggling to find new ways to slash about $1.8 billion (&euro1.4 billion) from its budget to cover costs from the latest round of base closings.

He said he can't cut more people, and it would not be wise to take funding from military programs that are needed to protect the country. But he said he also incurs resistance when he tries to save money on operations and maintenance by retiring aging aircraft.

We're finding out that those are, unfortunately, prized possessions of some congressional districts, said Wynne, adding that the Air Force will have to take some appetite suppressant pills. He said he has asked employees to look for efficiencies in their offices.

The base closings initially were expected to create savings by reducing Air Force infrastructure by 24 percent.

anyone who calls upon the name of sm
the Lord shall be saved. His sins are forgiven, under the blood of Jesus never to be remembered again. That is the beauty of salvation, it is a free gift for all who repent and believe.

You are placing salvation in good works. You can "believe" what you like but it WILL NOT get you to heaven. There are many sincere people out there but they are sincerely wrong and mistaken. Only REPENTENCE and belief in the blood of Jesus Christ, HIS son for the remission of our sins will get you into heaven. There IS ONLY ONE WAY. I hate to believe that you would "think" you have a "chance" at heaven when you can KNOW where you are going without a shadow of a doubt by placing your faith and trust in the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
Ya calls 'em the same way I do.

The Bible calls
homosexual acts an "abomination." Look it up. It means "something to be hated." God tells us to hate that act. We obviously do not serve the same God. Mine teaches me to love all men and to hate sin such as homosexual acts. I believe you missed my point. Of course, it is possible to hate the sin and love the sinner but NOT if you are a member of the homosexual community. Once again, an opinion is not a judgement and it is a fact that homosexuality is abominable, ergo, disgusting if you worship the same God I do as I believe what He says. Of course, I have sinned. And I do not expect others to accept my sins as well and good. I don't even do that myself, so why should I accept that homosexuality is a good thing? My point is....We all sin, me included. You are not to accept my sin as good even though I may label myself as the sin I commit. You are not to hate me because of my sin but only hate my sin. People who commit homosexual acts and call themselves homosexuals would have us accept that sin because that is "who" they are not their sin. I don't think it's that difficult to understand.

United Methodist Church Calls For Withdrawal ...sm

Sweet Victory: United Methodist Church Calls For Withdrawal

It's one thing when former high-ranking members of your own Administration come out against your war. It's another thing when two-thirds of the country calls the invasion and occupation a mistake. It's really something when your own church issues a statement urging you to pull out the troops now.

Last week, the United Methodist Church Board of Church and Society--the social action committee of the church that both President Bush and Vice President Cheney belong to--resoundingly passed a resolution calling for withdrawal with only two 'no' votes and one abstention.

As people of faith, we raise our voice in protest against the tragedy of the unjust war in Iraq, the statement read. Thousands of lives have been lost and hundreds of billions of dollars wasted in a war the United States initiated and should never have fought.... We grieve for all those whose lives have been lost or destroyed in this needless and avoidable tragedy. Military families have suffered undue hardship from prolonged troop rotations in Iraq and loss of loved ones. It is time to bring them home.

The board also issued a strong statement against torture, urging Congress to create an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate detention and interrogation practices at Guantanamo, Iraq and Afghanistan.

It is my hope and prayer that our statement against the war in Iraq will be heard loud and clear by our fellow United Methodists, President Bush and Vice President Cheney, said Jim Winkler, General Secretary of the UMC's Board of Church and Society. Conservative and liberal board members worked together to craft a strong statement calling for the troops to come home and for those responsible for leading us into this disastrous war to be held accountable.

With its bold stands against the Administration, the UMC is fulfilling the words of Martin Luther King Jr., who called for the church to be not merely a thermometer that recorded the ideas and principles of popular opinion but a thermostat that transformed the mores of society.

Bush has asserted that he entered Iraq on a direct order from God. Now, he has a direct order from his own church to leave. Is he listening?

Yes, Lurker, it's time to make more phone calls and get these

Hillary Clinton Calls for Privacy Bill...sm
Now I agree with Senator Clinton on this and I have said all along wire tapping should have checks and balances, goverment 101.

Also, living in an information society there has to be something in place to protect citizens privacy. This past week I read a blog with pictures of unknowing obese or tacky dressed people posted in the blog with comments about them. These people were enjoying a private day at the pool and this blogger was snapping their pictures. Not only was this downright evil and disrespectful but it should be illegal.
---------------

(AP) Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, drawing on her experiences as a young Watergate lawyer who decades later was investigated as first lady, urged creation of a privacy bill of rights Friday to protect people's personal data.

Modern life makes many things easier and many things easier to know, and yet privacy is somehow caught in the crosshairs of these changes, Clinton said in a speech to a left-leaning legal group.

Clinton's speech on protecting consumers from identity theft and citizens from government snooping was the latest in a series of talks billed as major addresses by aides. Previous speeches were on energy and the economy.

A potential presidential candidate in 2008 whose eight years as first lady were marked by numerous investigations, Clinton noted her work on a House committee investigating the Nixon administration's illegal snooping and other abuses.

And she ruefully called herself an expert in the loss of privacy.

Having lost so much of my own privacy in recent years I have a deep appreciation of its value and a firm commitment to protecting it for all the rest of you, she said, prompting laughter from the audience of the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy.

Clinton wants to create a privacy czar within the White House to guard against recent problems like the theft of personal data from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

She also wants legislation to let consumers know what information companies are keeping about them and how it is used, and create a tiered system of penalties for companies who are not careful with consumer data.

Clinton also waded into the debate over anti-terror eavesdropping. For months Democrats have hammered at the Bush administration over the National Security Agency's program of domestic wiretapping without warrants from judges. The administration insists it is both legal and necessary.

Clinton said any president should have the latest technology to track terrorists, but within laws that provide for oversight by judges.

The administration's refrain has been, Trust us,' said Clinton. That's unacceptable. Their track record doesn't warrant our trust. ... Unchecked mass surveillance without judicial review may sometimes be legal but it is dangerous. Every president should save those powers for limited critical situations.

The fact is, Bush is not a true conservative and I have a lot of problems with some of his agendas.  Iraq is not one of them.  No one I know paints all liberals with the same brush.  Most of us who post here regularly have made the distinction between leftists and liberals. Looks like JM thinks family is fair game as long as it's dem family. Obama does not go down that path.
I didn't say I wanted our reps to ignore the calls.
it appears that is what they are doing...ignoring the embittered partisan protests (the likes of which I took issue with in my original post) and hammering out a compromise. In other words, they are doing their jobs. i.e., coming up with something that will move us forward and float SOMETHING that will address the ECONOMY, not partisan interests. So no, your assumption that I am proud of this would be false and your indignation, misplaced.

Obama Calls on Bush To Admit Iraq Errors

Obama Calls on Bush To Admit Iraq Errors

'Limited' Troop Reduction Urged

By Peter Slevin
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, November 23, 2005; Page A03

CHICAGO, Nov. 22 -- Sen. Barack Obama said President Bush should admit mistakes in waging the Iraq war and reduce the number of troops stationed there in the next year. But the Illinois Democrat, a longtime opponent of the war, said U.S. forces remain part of a solution in the bitterly divided country and should not be withdrawn immediately.

Without citing specific numbers, Obama called for a limited drawdown of U.S. troops that would push the fragile Iraqi government to take more responsibility while deploying enough American soldiers to prevent the country from exploding into civil war or ethnic cleansing or a haven for terrorism.

Obama also faulted the administration for tarring its critics as unpatriotic naysayers and said it launched the war to topple Saddam Hussein in March 2003 without giving either Congress or the American people the full story.

Straight answers to critical questions. That's what we don't have right now, the high-profile freshman senator told the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations. Members of both parties and the American people have now made clear that it is simply not enough for the president to simply say 'We know best' and 'Stay the course.'

As other Democrats are finding their voice against Iraq policy, Obama took an approach closer to one taken by Senate Foreign Relations Committee colleague Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) than to that of Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.). Murtha, a former Marine, called last week for an immediate pullout of nearly 160,000 U.S. troops.

Four prospective Democratic presidential candidates -- Biden, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.), Sen. John F. Kerry (Mass.) and former North Carolina senator John Edwards -- have advocated a more gradual approach, with no sudden steps. Biden called Monday for the withdrawal of 50,000 troops by the end of next year and all but 20,000 to 40,000 out by January 2008.

Obama told the audience of about 500 people that the war has siphoned assets from homeland security and the global anti-terrorism fight. He said the administration's attempt to equate the defeat of the Iraqi insurgency with the defeat of international terrorism is overly narrow and dangerously short-sighted.

In a 35-minute speech scheduled just days ago, Obama argued that public opinion has raced ahead of politicians in seeking a clearly etched policy that helps produce stability in Iraq and the Middle East without exposing the United States to a war without end -- a war where our goals and our strategies drift aimlessly, regardless of the cost in lives or dollars spent.

Those of us in Washington have fallen behind the debate that is taking place across America on Iraq. We are failing to provide leadership on this issue, Obama said.

He maintained that Bush could take politics out of the Iraq discussion once and for all if he would simply go on television and say to the American people: 'Yes, we made mistakes. Yes, there are things I would have done differently. But now that I'm here, I'm willing to work with both Republicans and Democrats to find the most responsible way out.'

Discussing the first lady's visit to a Washington D.C. classroom last week, Bruce incredulously recalled Obama's story about wanting to get A's in school and called out her use of a "weird, fake accent."

U.S. needs allies badly. No money, many enemies and no allies = Disaster
China could bring down the entire country with a stroke of a pen. Russia, Venuzuela and Cuba are buddies. North Korea is provocative and well, then there is an entire continent of terrorists who hate the Americans.

I'd say you need to wake up and face the fact that America is on its back and one more castrophe to cause the fall of a nation. Rome fell in 400 years.

Iraq, Afghanistan, subprime mess, derivatives, tax cuts to rich and deficit spending to trillion all happened over two months ago by the man named George Bush.

Is there a problem with her perception of reality?
Then call it what it is...or call for conservation...
but don't make up a myth to try to gain control. That is what Gore is after...what all the global warming hoohah is after. They have an agenda...pure and simple. And the base fact is that a very low percentage of the greenhouse gas effect is from cars. Every time you breathe out, you contribute. Are we all going to stop breathing? Are cows going to stop belching? I have no problem with ethanol...I have used it. My husband is from Iowa...I would love it if we started using ethanol more extensively. But in previous years, Democrats (Hillary being a primary one) opposed the use of ethanol. I guess if I believed any of those people out there hawking global warming actually believed what they were saying it would be different...but I don't. The science is not there. As I said...if the real interest is conservation with the side benefit of less CO2...fine. Just say so. But as the article pointed out...if it is as bad as they say it is, you can't stop it anyway. It just does not make good sense to me.
Fine. Call if whatever you want to call it....
I will call it as I see it. I look at a totality of things. He has embraced black liberation theology which is racist and has Marxist tones for 20 years. There is no way the man went to that church for 20 years and did not know their doctrine. But, if you choose to believe that, again, fine. I do not. I believe he knows that theology backward and forward and believes it to his core. You don't have to. That is the wonderful thing about America. We can agree or disagree. On this we disagree.

Yes, I am feeling a pinch. But I don't think the government should take money from you and give it to me. I don't think they should take money from any private business and give it to me. If you think that is fair, fine. I don't. That is how socialism/Marxism takes hold. Historically it ends the same way. I don't want that for America. Perhaps you do...you want the pinch eased for you and if that means taking money from someone else that they earned, and giving it to you, who did not earn it, to you it is all good. To me it isn't.

He never has said who the $1000 checks are going to. I am thinking not every person in the whole US of A...so not only does he get to choose who he takes the money from, he gets to choose who to give it to. That would be another interesting piece of the puzzle. If he confirms to the Marxist view, it would be issuing checks to the "poor." And he gets to define who that is. You may be okay with that...me, not so much.

And by the way...have you ever researched an oil company profit margin? It is not as huge as Obama would like you to believe. But, again, he is counting on no one researching what he says. They hear free money and that's all they want to hear. Also, do you think oil companies don't employ people? You think it is one CEO at a desk in an office raking in billions? You don't think there are rank and file regular folks who work for oil companies? Whose jobs might be impacted by you and others wanting to take money away from their employers and doling it out to people who have not earned it? You think there is a chance they might have a problem with that?
I call, fax, and call again and I do campaign....

Terrorists

Why in hell would I want to convey anything to terrorists but stay hell out of our country or they will die?  You, on the other hand want them to like us....I couldn't give a rat's behind what terrorists think about us except that they know we will kick their asses all the way to the meeting with virgins they want so desperately to get their hands on.

If you want to stick flowers in their guns go ahead.  I would like to stand back and watch that.

Besides, since when do we let terrorists
decide who is going to be our next President? Are we so insane that we let a suspect endorsement by a terrorist organization sway our votes one way or another? OMG! I honestly can't believe this! I'm wondering what the people in the Twin Towers or the people on those planes on 9/11 (especially the ones that fought the hijackers) would think about their country now? Makes me sad to think that there are people who would cowtow to terrorist organizations. We should really all know better than that.
We will never have terrorists

under control per se, but at least we can give power back to the Muslims who don't want us dead.  The more control the terrorists have and the bigger area they have to work in....the more of a threat they are to us.  That is what this war means to me.

As for Obama....he himself has ridiculed this war and yet states that he will find Osama Bin Laden.  Is he not raging war here?  Obama himself has said that he will not take military force off of the table.  Who is to say that Obama won't pull us out of Iraq and sent us to Pakistan to rage war there.  We can't fight terrorists in Iraq because that is wasteful and wrong, but Obama wants to go to Pakistan and hunt down terrorists....same thing isn't it.  Talk about double standards.

He is going to be spending all this money with no funding and says he will save money ending this war but it sounds to me like he could be starting a war elsewhere and then what money will he use to fund his programs.....TAXES....TAXES.....TAXES.........ON EVERYONE!!!  Including the middle class that he now supposedly is looking after even though he voted before to raise taxes on us middle folks.  Nothing but rhetoric to get in the office.

You mean terrorists,
x
Well when terrorists...

and yes I dared to use the word TERRORISTS....strike us again on US soil....what will happen to us then?  Will Obama go after them and strike back or will the US turn the other cheek to be struck again?  If Obama goes after them and no other country backs us.....what will you say then?

The reason these leaders like Obama is because they see weakness.  They see an opportunity for the US to fall and they are all chomping at the bit.

North Korea is still talking of launching their missile but hey....I guess since it can hit Alaska that is okay because maybe they will get Palin....huh?  One less pub to worry about.

China says they hate us and blame us for the global economy issues and they are using all the money they get from our country to build up their defense.

The Taliban have already said they are planning a strike on Washington.  Right there is a warning.  So if the Taliban succeed....are ya'll gonna give Obama crap too for not stopping it like you did W. for 9/11 since they had "warnings."

Once again, the die hard party liners here refuse to see the mistakes in their own political party and all they can do is point the finger at the other political party.....which is why I'm an independent.

You all can go on and on about Bushy's war in Iraq but the botton line is this....would you prefer that terrorists still have control of that area?  Would you prefer that the woman in that region be beaten by the taliban for talking to a man or not wearing the appropriate attire.  Regardless of why we went there or not....we helped the Iraqi's.  Yes we tortured to get information that would save people's lives while they captured our people and beheaded them.....yet we are the bad guys.   Their whole purpose of existence is to wipe us out.  They want us DEAD and now we can't even call them terrorists....are you kidding me?

Seriously.....what is your solution to this problem?  Talking to terrorists who want us dead and have no problem blowing themselves up at the same time isn't going to work.  The brutal beating of woman just because they exist and are inferior to men......and yet you never hear women's rights group protesting THAT.

But hey.....we have our warning from the Taliban and Obama is cutting money from defense.......makes sense.....doesn't it?  I guess the only ones it makes sense too are the MSNBC watching, kool-aid drinking, far-left liberals who swoon everytime Obamanation reads from the teleprompter.

How many terrorists

have died being waterboarded?  How many terrorists have we brutally tortured to where they have begged for death?  How many terrorists have had their head cut off at Gitmo?

It isn't like these acts are done merely for entertainment purposes.  They were used to get information out of known terrorists.  It was done in an attempt to save lives.  It wasn't done in an attempt to destroy lives.  All terrorists want to do is destroy us.

As for the treatment at Gitmo, they have it better than prisoners here in the US have it.  They get reading material, food, clean clothes, etc.  Of all the terrorists at Gitmo....how many were waterboarded?  2-3?  Oh my.  It isn't like we have waterboarded each and every terrorist and the ones we did waterboard were done because they were high up in the ranks that they would more than likely know more information/plans, etc.

As for my religious beliefs....I would much rather do what has to be done in order to keep our country, families, children, parents, etc. safe than to cuddle people who hate us and wish nothing upon us but death.

This shows you exactly how much you know about the terrorists. sm
And THAT has been the worst part about all this.  Bush hatred has not only fried you to crispy critters, it has made you dangerously ignorant.
you are the ones helping the terrorists
It is Bush and you and people who think like you who have put us at risk.  We now have a full fledged terrorist state/breeding ground in Iraq because of Bush's war..That has put us at great risk for decades to come.  Before Bush invaded, we had a few radicals that if we kept our focus we could have hunted down in Afghanistan and eliminated.  Instead Bush invaded Iraq for no go reason other than to have a presence in the Middle East for control of the Middle East.  Where is bin Laden?  Why are we fighting in Iraq?  Why are we there?  The real murderer is somewhere in Afghanistan or Pakistan.  Yet, you people continue to back this war when there is no logical good reason to have entered into it or to stay there.  You and your man Bush are helping the terrorists, you have given them every reason to continue to multiply and hate us even more.  You are throwing oil on fire.  I want to put out the fire.
How many terrorists attacks have we had since 911
