Please help me with this question...

I have a question I would appreciate any opinions on.  I actually have alluded to this before, but as I recall there was only a small comment made.  My question is HOW can there be such a philosophical divide in our country over our current polilitcal/moral/philosophical situation with this current administration.  How can one group be so enamored of Bush and his policies, so sure that he is truthful and honest and has our best interests at heart even in the face of much reliable evidence to the contrary?  Why a fairty-tale like insistence that all is well (I remember reading on this board how the Iraqui's love us)?  I could go on and on.  It seems like one deception or misstatement after another.

In debates between the two groups (libs/undecideds and conservatives) the main attack I see given by the conservatives is that liberals believe all the liberal press lies that are told, that Bush doesn't lie, that everything is fine.  It seems like there is a huge wall of denial about the facts pointing to the blunders and misleading statements and ulterior motives of this administration.  Many folks still deny that anything inappropriate ever happened at our military prisons - they say it was all media lies.  There has been so much corroborating this I don't know someone could clap their hands over their eyes and ears and say "tisn't so."  I could on and on with examples as I'm sure many of you could, too.

And today on Terry Gross's PBS program she was interviewing, a pastor and political person (Senator? maybe) Danforth who candidly said in regard to stem cell research that if given the choice to save a petri dish of cells that will never ever constitute a human being or saving his neighbor who has Alzheimer's that he would choose to save his neighbor.  He said that truly was following the Biblical request to love thy neighbor.  I thought, well how reasonable and loving!!!

Sorry to ramble on so long but these matters really puzzle me.  Any thoughts?  How can folks from the same nation and culture differ so radically on their view of current events?
