It may have been a poor choice of analogies, but if you read this, no one is coming out and calling someone a pig. ie, you can put lipstick on a popsicle, and it'll still be a popsicle. Or a truck. Or a kitten. Or a pitbull.

Haven't seen the actual 'quote' in question anywhere, but what you describe in your post is really no big deal, and it's being blown way out of proportion to what it really is - just a 'fer-instance'.
