but it is collected as part of our property taxes. I live about 20 miles from town and the last time we had to call an ambulance for my dad before he died, it took them almost an hour to get here. They followed some kakamamy county map and followed a series of county roads to get to Dad's house, got to within 100 yards of his house and thought they might be lost so went back out to the main road and took another route in which our house is only about a half mile off the main road. Our tax dollars at work!

I had to laugh at your statement about school taxes (paying them regardless of whether you had children in school or not). When I was a kid, I remember my parents grumbling about having to find a way to pay the school taxes. I made the brilliant observation that I bet they would be glad when my brother and I finally graduated so they wouldn't have to pay school taxes. Little did I realize the determining factor for school taxes were not whether you had children in school or how many but rather whether you owned land and how much of it. Dad got a kick out of that!
