Well at least sm and you had dogs and beans

We lived on soup given to us by a neighbor for 6 months. In return, hubby worked around the place for him (they were in their 70s). We would get a gallon of soup every other day. I must say, I did lose weight then.   Kids came first, then hubby, then me for the soup. I never want to be in that position again, but it looks like it may come to that. Thank heavens, I've been stocking up a bit. I'm no where near where I'd like to be food-wise, but better off than I was in the 80s when there was NOTHING.

dogs and cats
Well, sometimes I feel animals are given more rights than humans. But that said, we are talking about dogs and cats that are alive and viable. An 8-week fetus is hardly viable on its own, and again, I don't believe it is alive and I question the pain issue anyway. When looking at that research, it is more than a bit biased.
Can we call off the dogs

I just have to say that I did NOT want McCain as our next president. I am not pro-McCain....in case you missed it....I'm not conservative nor am I pro-McCain. I consider myself down the middle. There are some issues I'm very liberal with and some that I am conservative with.

With that said.....this board has become very one-sided and seemingly mean-spirited. My friend says this is because people are so fed up and so ready for a change........I am too, but my goodness, let's not be blinded with Obama's charisma. He will be hugely successful with some things and he will fail miserably with some things. That's the nature of politics. He's human. He will be affected by Washington politics. He's already backed down on one thing that he stated during the campaign (no lobbyists as advisors--now they can be but with restrictions).

I would rather look at things realistically and without rose-colored glasses. Let's call the dogs off Palin & MCain, take the high road, and look to Obama to be the great leader he promises to be.

So? Singing dogs
also make the news.
I think he is bracing himself for the attack dogs first.sm
Like everyone else, he knows what the consequences are for speaking out. I'm sure the MSM have a smear campaign planned if he does.
Still, when one sleeps with dogs he shall get fleas :)~nm

Fava beans

Not so easy to find.  May have to go to one of those boutique groceries, a Fresh Market, Whole Foods, etc.  Grow in giant pods.   I had a neighbor who grew them because her husband loved them.  If you find a way to make them palatable, lemme know.  As I said, big lima bean shaped beans, kind of squishy texture and a bitter taste.  Nasty is the only impression I carry over the years.  Oh, and for some reason, African blacks and people with Mediterranian ancestry can lack a digestive enzyme and that makes them very allergic to favas (it's called 'favism').  Go figure.

Yep, that's me.  TMI (too much information). Yeah, I know, this belongs on the gab board.  I promise we'll quit about the beans now, all you who are outraged by trivia here.

Actually, neither one means a hill of beans to me...thanks for trying...nm

There you go...hit on another favorite. Pinto beans...
fried potatoes and cornbread. Yum. Growing up that was a staple for us. And boy did I (and still do) love it!!
Yeah. bread and beans maybe? LOL (nm)

So you are obsessed with chili dogs, cheese fries, whirling dervishes
you cannot manage to focus on the subject at hand. Like I said, dear, you are a bit confused.

PS. FYI, the Sufi Dervish practitioners are famous for being a source of wisdom, medicine, poetry, enlightenment, and witticisms, so thanks for the compliment.
Let me just interrupt my dinner of fava beans

and chianti to reply.  What's happening in the market is called a hiccup.  It will jump a little, drop a little, and bounce around.  It does that when a president has a colonoscopy or gets a mole removed.

I would not start singing Ding-Dong the Witch is Dead quite yet (am I mixing movie metaphors?) because I think the overall trend will be gradually down over the long term.  Let's see what a 6-month average has been in, say, September?  (Now might be a really good time to divest....just sayin')

Never have had fava beans, but I have had a nice chianti
Although all wine is "nice". Fava beans have just always sounded nasty. I remember watching Anthony Hopkins interviewed on Inside the Actors Studio. I can't remember exactly what he said now but I remember him commenting on that specific line, and they were laughing about it.
you're mixing apples and beans, drug addiction

alcoholism and drug addition is nothing like religious fanaticism and/or religious extremism.....and/or genocide in Darfur and/or Kenya

he went to see Odinga not a month ago to try and broker peace there......and after he left Kenya, the genocide continued and continues thru now....

sand....head....ostrich.......

Oops! Jill Biden spilled the beans on Oprah...sm
today.  Joe was offered either Secretary of State or VP by Obama, his choice.  Everyone was shocked and laughing and she so, "well its true", and Joe said, it's OK, you're right it is true.  I predict that skit will be portrayed on SNL this weekend.
