about the peace movement. I asked why you did not take your ideals to the real enemies of peace...and your answer was that you leave them to God but will instead preach to us not to fight them, even when they bring the fight to us. So be it.

I did not personally call you a whiner. As to who sent the military...I will say one thing. When you join the military, you take an oath. That oath has been posted here. You are under no illusions. You know that you may be called to war. It is an all voluntary army over there now. There is no draft. No one is over there because they were forced to go.
As to the people sending having never been...what has that got to do with anything?It was not just George Bush and Dick Cheney, Lurker. It was Congress. Many in Congress do have relatives, even sons and daughters, in Iraq. Have you read the resolution? It is very clear. They knew exactly what they were signing and exactly what it meant. I do not buy the lied to hooey. The Senate and House intelligence committees got the same briefings, or at least enough briefings to vote for the resolution. If they did not (in their own words) use due diligence before signing off on that resolution, whose fault is that? Certainly not Dick Cheney's or George Bush's.
Where were all these people when Clinton was calling for regime change? Because he was a Democrat they will follow him to war? You will see why I do not buy into their rhetoric.
And while I understand your big picture, as I have said over and over and you have never addressed, that will work only if the others in the big picture wish it to work. And if you honestly feel that God wishes that you lay down and let this country be overrun by terrorists, then so be it. I am not of the same mind.
The big difference is that I believe, as did Americans at the time of the Revolution, and that Americans did at the time of the Civil War...and that even some Americans did at the time of Viet Nam...some things are worth dying for. Most of our volunteer military feels the same.
When that is no longer the case, if you are successful in robbing that sense of patriotism from the generations to come without changing the minds of the enemies, where they feel that nothing is worth dying for...in my mind that will only bring death quicker, not keep it at bay, and the loss of the greatest nation on the face of this earth.
It says he raised 5.1 million (McCain). I don't see anywhere except on a blog that it was $50,000 a plate though.
That being said...you are correct. They both went to big fundraisers. Not any happier with one than the other on that score. I know it is politics as usual on both sides...don't have to like it, tho...on either side.

I mean I haven't been here that long, but from what I've seen she only responds to what is talked about, i have seen no "attacks" by Sam, I can only assume you are referring to her disagreements with you, and can only look at this post as a desperate call for help cause you can't debate her points. That is what this board is for right? I mean, that is what a debate is, back and forth right? To call Sam out is interesting considering I've never seen personal attacks from her (i haven't read all her posts though) but I have seen plenty of crap come out of the liberals' mouths (keyboard) on this board... why dont you email her yourself and have it out rather than seriously asking the moderate to give her her own space. Last time I checked, we live in America and there is free speech. If you dont like what she has to say, IGNORE IT! (i do it all the time with some of the nonsense put out!)

Sam writes very well and more often than not has facts to back up her opinion. That is a heck of a lot more than I can say for some other people on this board. I tend to vote conservative, but most of my friends are diehard Democrats. You just have to learn to agree to disagree. We all love each other, we just have different views.
I would like to say one thing, though, because not a lot of people know this. Back when Kerry was running, he was vocal about not sending our jobs overseas; however, behind the scenes, his biggest contributor, George Soros, actually bought two MT companies, which I won't name here, and those companies shipped half of their jobs to India. So don't let the Dems tell you that the Repubs are sending all the jobs offshore, because it is absolutely NOT SO.
Back to the point, though..you just have to learn to separate politics from friendship. You can have friendly debates, and if your friends get ugly, just explain to them we can debate this, but we need to agree to disagree for the sake of our friendship. If they are your true friends, they will agree.

FOR the second time in four years, the United States has been changed utterly by a previously unthinkable event. And just as was the case after 9/11, how this nation responds to the deluge that is sweeping New Orleans away will help define the nature of its character for decades.
Just as Rudy Giuliani said that the death toll from 9/11 would be more than any of us can bear, the same is already true of Katrina. Who can begin to take in the notion that in the United States in the 21st century, a storm could kill in staggering numbers?
At the beginning of the 20th century, something like 8,000 people perished when Galveston, Texas — unprotected from storm swells at the time — was hit by a hurricane. But when Hurricane Andrew leveled the entire town of Homestead, Fla., 13 years ago and became the most financially deadly storm in American history, it took only 15 lives.
Now we're talking about several hundred times that number in the literal swamping of one of the world's great cities.
There can be no doubt that the immediate response will be one of breathtaking generosity — financial, spiritual and personal. That's what we saw in the wake of 9/11, it's what happened after the tsunami in December, and it's what we will begin to see as the next few days pass.
But what we don't yet know is this: Are we going to try to look forward, to figure out how to save New Orleans and prevent another calamity of this sort there and elsewhere? Or are we going to begin finger-pointing, searching for villains among the debris?
Some of that villain-hunting has already begun, in the typically vulgar, unwisely speedy efforts made by overly assured ideologues certain that they can connect a cataclysm to a pet issue — whether it be the American failure to pass the Kyoto global warming treaty or making the claim that spending on the war in Iraq squeezed out the possibility of shoring up the New Orleans levees.
Here we see the stirrings of a spiritual divisiveness taking hold — in the form of a know-nothing populism that sweeps everything in its wake and brings everything into the courtroom.
What happened here was a natural disaster. But there will be the temptation to turn it into a human conspiracy of greed and selfishness on the part of oil companies, concrete companies, politicians, insurers, re-insurers, goonish cops and the like.
If the recriminations become the story of the next months, everybody will simply go to the usual battle stations. The tort reformers will take on the trial lawyers. The global-warming crowd will face off against American business. The politicians will scream at each other, scoff at each other, and try to find some cheap advantage that will turn the tide against one party or the other.
The good that will be done —person by person, donation by donation, community by community — will be in danger of getting swamped by the bitterness and divisiveness that characterizes contemporary elite politics. Rather than finding common ground, there will be ugly partisanship and a cold standoff.
The horror of a flood is literally, very nearly the oldest story in the Book. There have always been times that the water will rise higher than the walls men can build to contain it. The New Orleans system survived the battering of nature for more than 200 years — but it met its match and was overwhelmed by it.
The best we can do is comfort the afflicted, mourn the lost, and try to rebuild. The worst we can do is turn on each other.

They either have more lucrative interests in Iraq or are just bent on ridding it of Saddam or all of the above (too much history there), and we all know good and well there were no jihadist extremist there before America invaded that country, so this so-called War on Terror in Iraq was INVENTED.

on all this. The acts committed by gay couples are 'abnormal'. If those aame acts are committed by a heterosexual couple, do they become 'normal'? I mean, they don't led directly to procreation, so what's permissible? Really need to know how to plan my evening.

He is simply proffering that things are probably going to get worse before they get better, which is also what any reputable economist is saying. I agree, all are entitled to handle grief in their own way.
It does seem that the grieving parent who chooses not to let his loss become a big public issue deserves just as much tolerance and respect as one who does. I don't think smearing or degrading any parent who's had such a loss is appropriate. We've heard for years now from families who have had losses and still support Bush and support the current war, and to my knowledge no one on the left has made a huge effort to discredit their motives or drag them through the mud or call their behavior "politically motivated." That just wouldn't be respectful and I know I would be against any such effort.

Former FEMA Director Michael Brown, heavily criticized for his agency's slow response to Hurricane Katrina, is starting a disaster preparedness consulting firm to help clients avoid the sort of errors that cost him his job.
If I can help people focus on preparedness, how to be better prepared in their homes and better prepared in their businesses — because that goes straight to the bottom line — then I hope I can help the country in some way, Brown told the Rocky Mountain News for its Thursday editions.
Brown said officials need to take inventory of what's going on in a disaster to be able to answer questions to avoid appearing unaware of how serious a situation is.
In the aftermath of the hurricane, critics complained about Brown's lack of formal emergency management experience and e-mails that later surfaced showed him as out of touch with the extent of the devastation.
The lawyer admits that while he was head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency mistakes were made in the response to Katrina. He also said he had been planning to quit before the hurricane hit.
Hurricane Katrina showed how bad disasters can be, and there's an incredible need for individuals and businesses to understand how important preparedness is, he said.
Brown said companies already have expressed interested in his consulting business, Michael D. Brown LLC. He plans to run it from the Boulder area, where he lived before joining the Bush administration in 2001.
I'm doing a lot of good work with some great clients, Brown said. My wife, children and my grandchild still love me. My parents are still proud of me.
