Sen. John McCain hasn't had good luck joking about Iran. But he tried it again Tuesday.
Responding to a question about a survey that shows increased exports to Iran, mainly from cigarettes, McCain said, "Maybe that's a way of killing them."
He quickly caught himself, saying "I meant that as a joke" as his wife, Cindy, poked him in the back.
Last time, it was also Iran. His singing about bombing Iran to the theme of the Beach Boy's "Barbara Ann" drew derision from many quarters but a "lighten up" response from McCain

What makes you think Colin Powell would want to be on the McCain ticket?
Colin Powell decided not to run for President of the United States several years ago. Why on earth would he accept an offer to run for Vice President on the McCain ticket? In addition, Powell has adamantly denounced the despicable smear tactics used by the McCain campaign recently.
I find it laughable how quickly the right-wing wackos turn against anyone who makes an educated decision to support Obama.

Making promises he won't (or can't keep), offering tax breaks that won't amount to anything (his 1% rich friends will still get more than they need) and we will be given scraps hoping that appeases us, keeping the war going, oil companies will continue to profit, housing market will continue to decline, banks and brokerages will continue to be bailed out all while the American people suffer for it. We will be led into a depression before his time is done (while of course blaming the other side), the list goes on and on and on, all the while he will continue to call us "my friends".

yes. But when it counted, when he saw the crisis coming, he cosponsored legislation to REGULATE. Obama did not. This is not just about money. This is about putting your country first. WHen you see that your economy could be put in crisis because of a program in trouble, you should put country before party and fix it. Obama, Dodd, and Frank did not; in fact, made it worse by encouraging Fannie/Freddie to go on just like they were. That is about judgment. THat is about caring more about your country that your party or your career. Yes, I will accept that McCain had a lobbyist as recently as last month on his campaign. Will you accept that Jim Johnson, with Obama campaign until last month, was one of the CEOs who walked away from Fannie with a HUGE golden parachute, PERSONALLY benefitted from the cooked books?
No, I do not accept that McCain had anything to do with this crisis that faces us now. He is the only one who saw this coming and tried to head it off, and Obama and Biden BOTH helped kill it.
Obama showed very plainly that he put party and career first, and the American people second. As did Dodd, Frank, and yes, Biden because none of them would buck the party and help the legislation pass.
I think his judgment is wrong, I think his priorities are wrong, I think he and the Democrats are on the wrong side of this and Republicans are on the right side, specifically John McCain.
I am not convinced it was all about money. What I am convinced about is that it was party ahd politically motivated and we the rank and file Americans got thrown under the bus. McCain tried to stop the bus...the Democrats, Dodd, Obama in particular...pushed the accelerator.

The laws do not affect you. The only way that law would affect anyone is if they chose to marry their partner of the same sex. You have always had the choice to marry whomever you choose as long as they are of the opposite sex. HOW WOULD IT AFFECT YOU PERSONALLY? No one seems to be able to answer that.

can you get than to not care about the unborn on this planet? I don't believe God makes any of us suffer. I believe most suffering is brought on by ourselves. Drugs, cigarettes, alcohol, unhealthy diet, along with multiple other abuses all in the name of "doing what feels good." We suffer because of our own choices which God gives us freely. He didn't create robots. So why shouldn't the unborn be allowed to have the privilege of suffering like the rest of us? ;-)

I believe we are weak because people would rather sit around and watch Survivor, American Idol and other reality & TV shows than to do something and stand up to government. I have a 32yo BIL who believes that his 14 year old niece should go to war and not him because he works at a hi tech company and is too important and too intelligent to be in the military, and there are literally thousands of people in this country who think like him. Americans (not all but a majority) will not do without. They live in the now (gimmee gimmee gimmee, I want I want I want). As for our government I honestly do not know what to think. These are the same people who gave a 700M bail out the other week and now upon finding out the companies who received the bail outs are not using them to help the people (the reason they were intended for), but instead they are pocketing the money for themselves and taking lavish holidays at resorts with thousand dollar "spa" retreats, and walking away with $90M bonuses. And the government is not demanding the money back or for them to use it for what it was intended for. I think a lot of democratic politicians think the same way Obama does (or close to it) and they will give Obama whatever he wants. My grandfather who was in WWII told me that when war started up everyone signed up. They all wanted to serve and they knew it meant the could be killed in action. Now adays nobody feels the same patriotism they did back then. He said patriotism is a lot more than hanging a flag from your car or in front of your house. So I do believe a lot of America (not all but a lot) is weak.

This post seems written by someone else, someone who believes in God and the teachings of Jesus, but your other posts are borderline mean toward conservative voters, many of whom are Christians with Christian ideals very much like the ones you claim to possess in the above post. Kennedy didn't like him, and Johnson went into fits of rage over his brother, Robert Kennedy, who he never referred to as anything but that son of a b****. Johnson was financed throughout his unstoppable career by Brown & Root (today KBR, a subsidiary of Halliburton). Politically he was a far closer match to the current Republicans both in ideology and political technique (woo them with money, destroy them if they won't cooperate with the agenda, and remember to feed that war machine at every opportunity).
Johnson was a Democrat because 60 years ago that was the Texan standard. But, he paved the way for the current breed of southern Republicans to take control. It's no surprise that Johnson leapt right into Viet Nam or collaborated with people who wished to deceive and manipulate the American people - that is what these people do. Kennedy was the true Democrat - but that just wouldn't do for either Johnson or the rest of his political soulmates who are, of course, Republicans.
I agree neither choice is great, but will vote McCain just as a vote against Obama. nm

The timing of this is just too ironic, considering it's on the heels of Murtha's PLAN involving Iraq. It seems to be more of a response to an angry America than an actual plan.
It's really sad to be this skeptical, but unfortunately, I can't take anything involving Bush at face value, considering the numbers of lies the world has been fed from this administration. By extension, I have to be suspect of things said by Iraqui leaders, who may be spoon-fed what they're *allowed* to say in their new *democracy* (promoting, of course, freedom of speech)!

What has our country become? I always knew that politicians were crooks, but for them to run our country into the ground just to line their own pockets.....it just absolutely disgusts me. All these politicians who received significant money from these companies......do you think they will suffer. No....it will be us who pay for all of this. Government as a whole has royally screwed us all with this.
This whole bail out thing has me so fuming mad I can't hardly see straight. I'm terrified that if we don't do it....we will collapse. I'm terrified that if we do it....it will only slow down but the collapse will still come...only later. I'm mad that they want to bail them out and screw the rest of us. I truly hope that there is another solution to this crisis other than a bail out.
I want the phuckers who deliberately screwed us through their own greed....I want them to pay for this. I want them to be held accountable. Instead, they lined their pockets, get bailed out, and it is the little people that lose out.
