Is that they paid in. Their money is supposed to be there but the govt spent it instead. Money I am putting in now should be there for me when i retire. The government is not supposed to be spending it on something else, which is what they did. SS payments are not made from money going in now. It was supposed to be like a "savings acct" because the govt thought people couldn't save for themselves. This is money that is owed to them. It is their own money. It's not like giving them a gift or a handout. It is simply taking their own money out of savings. If you put money in the bank, you should be able to get your money out of the bank. this is supposed to be the same but our govt in essence stole their money.
