Great site for anything medical, abbrevs, Rx, etc.

I think I use the following site more than anything else. It's a great all-around site for all things medical, but the abbreviation look-up is awesome! You can also look up abbrevs by definition. It also has a medical dictionary, ICD9 code search, Rx look-up, US Rx drug spelling, skin conditions, hospitals worldwide, medical associations, and more!

I just found VFFTC on there as I couldn't remember it and was having a major brain cramp. Always remember if it sounds like "B" it could be "V" and check both.

This site has helped me out a lot with those docs that like to abbreviate everything.

I actually had one doc that dictated, as fast as he could talk, under physical exam, WDWNLAM with no clue as to what part of the PE he was getting at. It took me a minute to realize he was abbrieviating "well developed, well nourished Latin American Male."

I'm not in any way picking on you, but somebody below asked how to look up words when you're not sure what they are. Since you knew it was some kind of fork, you could have looked up "fork" in the MPI and it lists 7 different medical forks, and you would have been able to deduce 'tuning fork' from this since you had a soundalike. I learned more new words from this reference book than anything else.

Subject: okay need help & explanation of cancer abbrevs. pls. sm

I rarely have to type cancer info, and when I do I do remember to subscript certain numbers....but I am running into them more often and I want to understand and know what I am typing instead of just assuming it looks right.  Can you please type the below findings correctly for me to have as a reference...and also if anyone has a link or can copy and past definitions for each category so I know what I'm talking about that would be awesome.  Thanks!

Subject: Do you have to follow AAMT dangerous abbrevs list?

We have to change 'cc' to 'mL' in nearly every instance now :( because that's listed on the AAMT Dangerous Abbreviations list. Were you able to keep it '2 cc' as above?
Just curious whether that's becoming the standard. (seems to me that most of those 'dangerous abbreviations' would only cause confusion if they were written, not when typed/transcribed...)

s/l Vivaldot patch.  I actually found more than one spelling and when I actually clicked on one web page to see if this was what I was looking for it took me to a porn site!!  TIA.
Great new gal.
You had a great question, and you are going to be a great MT.  If my response sounded a little cranky, I did not mean to be.  My point is after 25 years, I am not in the business of practicing medicine, and my inclination is that the doc, being a good doc, removed the colostomy bag and examined the colostomy site; and what he actually meant was, "no blood coming from colostomy site".  But to add the word  site or bag, when he said neither, gets into the business of practicing medicine and that is not our business. The best thing to do is put the responsibility back on him and go verbatim.  You are going to be a great MT, I worried to death about things exactly like this 25 years ago.  Good luck and come on the board anytime, plenty of people helped me, and still do.
