Question regarding Microsoft Word Spellcheck sm

Subject: Question regarding Microsoft Word Spellcheck sm

After completing the typing in a Microsoft Word document, I do a spell check.  When the spell check is complete, and I have to hit okay, it makes a really, really loud DING, and because I am using ExpressScribe and have to have the volume up on my headphones, it is really causing me problems with how loud the DING is, as it either scares the heck out of me or I also believe it is giving me a headache.  So, I have to take my headphones off while doing the spellcheck, so I'm not deaf by the end of the day.  I was wondering if anyone knew how to turn off the DING.  I would be so appreciative!

Microsoft Word
Hi, I had used Word Perfect for many years and then the office where I worked updated and got a new software, Microsoft Word. We were able to obtain training through the employer and we were also able to continue using both Word Perfect as well as Microsoft Word. Word is similar to Word Perfect although it is a different software that one obtains when they order Office 2003, many times Word simply comes with the newer computers. You don't know Word unless you have used it and have had a course on it, however, you could learn it quite easily. Just get the software and then read the HELP screens using the paper clip in Word and following their directions. You can also go to the local library and find many great books on most any software program, including Word 2003.

On Word, it doesn't auto capitalize the beginning of the next sentence after numbers and certain words. Is there a way to make it capitalize after a period and 2 spaces no matter what comes before the period?

Also, sometimes my document grammar check will not catch words at the beginning of sentences that should be capitalized. Usually it automatically detects uncapitalized sentences and marks the first word with a green underline. If it isn't detecting this, is there a way to make it so it will?

If you are using a medical spellchecker program, I don't know why you would use MS word to spell check anything. the spellchecker program runs in the background and underlines everything in red that is misspelled. so much easier than having to do a spell check on every document! just a suggestion.

not in MY spellcheck, it isn't, and it is Stedman's.
Subject: not in MY spellcheck, it isn't, and it is Stedman's.

I will not use it either. I do not think it is professional looking and if I was still going through training, it would not be acceptable to the school either. but my Stedman's spellcheck will not accept it, either.
Caught that w/ spellcheck afterwards ;) Thanks though.

If your spellcheck checks for capitalization (like Word), you can just type the med in lower case, and it will mark it as wrong if it needs to be capitalized. You can then put the ones that need to be capitalized into autocorrect so you don't have to memorize brand names.

she was looking for the plural form of decubitus, saying she got stumped by it.  I responded very simply to that.  I did not feel I needed to correct her use of "pleural" as was not her question and just quickly wanted to help her, and checked my medical references to do so.  I pointed out that there are no plural form for decubitus.  This is all correct.  What is your problem.  I was trying to help an MT with correct and verfified medical transcription help, now I know why I stay away from any message boards, always someone who wants a fight.  Whatever.

Has anyone seen any kind of lists dealing with word endings?  I've often thought I wanted to create one.  You know the doctor who dictates "mhmmpfectomy", etc.  Surely someone else must have felt this way too?

Subject: Word Help for Pex - sorry not yet, but ....

Hi, CC ...

I'm sorry that I don't have an answer for you regarding "pex", but I have just contacted a GI doctor friend of mine to ask him if he is familiar with the word.  You said that it was used in a sentence with the phrase: "the esophagus was pexed", so I thought that maybe, since he does EGDs, he might be familiar with that word.

Once thing I ask ... please ... when you find your answer - and you will - please post it on the board so that we who are just learning surgcal dictation can add it to our repetoire of weird words.  PLEASE?  Thanks, and good luck.  I hope I have an answer for you later this evening, or that someone else does.   Judy H.
