Then your MTSO would have NO clients
Overrated you say? If you saw some of the hair-raising mistakes we have to clean up on a daily basis you wouldn't even THINK about doing away with QA because the people you work for wouldn't stay in business.

How about the MTs who are too lazy to look things up and use QA as a reference source. I know I send feedback to the same MT over and over again without seeing any improvement. That is frustrating and a waste of my time.

I was an MT for 35 years before I became a QA person. I had a lot of experience and a lot of knowledge and felt, (very naively I realize now) that I could actually HELP people. But the MTs don't appreciate the help. They just want us to clean up their work and be quiet. If we send feedback we get blasted by the MT instead of being thanked.

I personally got into QA to help people. Boy, have I been disappointed. This is the most thankless and difficult job in the transcription business. Thank you for reinforcing that point.

I am so glad that I have wasted 38 years of my life trying to help people who just want to use me as their whipping boy.

So yeah, do us a favor, get rid of QA. What a waste we are trying to educate and help people. How dare we?

I personally give up. Do your own research and find your own answers. Don't bother me anymore!
Clients want to pay less; MTSO decides how - cm
to make it cost the client less.

These are the same players who in the 1990s had a profitable MTSO and sold it to MQ. It was a now what happens? reality for everyone left behind. I think the only thing different this time around is that they are still trying to line their pockets even more before they do it again, before their own retirement.

If they did it before, it's delusional to think they have any conscious about NOT doing it again. They want us to be loyal to them, but I see history being repeated, albeit by ripping off the bandage more slowly, so I ask, why?
Also on own clients or MTSO. Platform, expander
x
What happens, is MTSOs coddle the clients and let the clients call all of the shots.

Then the MTs get stuck with account specs that are contradictory and confusing.

It should be simple.  When an MTSO is wooing a client, the MTSO should present with a copy of the style guidelines they intend to follow or if it is the BOS, let the client know that.  It should be made clear that with the exception of report format, the guidelines are not flexible.  Either we use apostrophes or we don't.  Don't do it one way for one client and the exact opposite for the other client and then hold the MT responsible when she gets confused as to what account she is typing that day!

REMINDER to OSI, MQ, MDI-FL, etc.
To back up the Administrator's comments below and also those of the subsequents posts, could we please do things this way (the intent of the forum)?

OMIT stuff like:

"Grow up"

"You must be crazy to work for them"

"The reason you don't have a job there is because you aren't good enough"

"The reason you don't have a job there is because you probably got fired"

This stuff just eats space and serves no purpose.

I think it is legitimate if you run out of work constantly, your paychecks bounce, communication at the company is a problem, your payscale is far lower than average, your working conditions are horrendous, your company is deceitful (about pay, bonuses, promotions, outsourcing, whatever), the platform is a nightmare, etc.

This forum can be a lifesaver and provide great information to those who need it if we can just leave out the useless snide comments.
Thanks for the reminder...sm
I've been fretting about this all day long since reading the boards.  I haven't even gotten my packet yet and I'm worried about it.  I know I just need to pray about it and God won't give me more than I can handle.  Thanks for the reminder.  I needed it today!
Thanks for the reminder.
We all go thru that, it happens to even the very best. Man i can feel the heat with the angry smileys...
Reminder... (sm)
The account you're referring to is overflow, controlled by the hospital and not DRC. It crossed my mind, too, that something was different but my (completely uneducated) guess is that the account was overstaffed at some point when the backlog was so bad and now it's caught up. It's also possible that the hospital added employees. Either way, I very sincerely doubt any of the work went offshore -- it's too big an account for DRC/Acusis to jeopardize with bait-and-switch, IMHO.
Just a reminder - it doesn't matter
It doesn't matter AT ALL what the contract states. An IC sets their own hours, and if the 'boss' tries to control said IC, this person is no longer an IC.

Contracts have nothing to do with the law. The LAW trumps a piece of signed paper EVERY TIME.

In talking to the lawyer I've been dealing with, not a single one of us who work regularly for a company and depend on a company for a portion (or ALL) of our paychecks are really ICs.

By law, we are ALL employees.

Soon, I will get together a thread of people who wish to take this all the way and change the face of transcription for the better for TRANSCRIPTIONISTS.

I hope companies/MTSOs who are knowingly and willingly breaking the law by calling EMPLOYEES 'ICs' read this and take it to heart. There's only a small amount of time to fix things before it's going to get REALLY hard.
MTSO2, you are a very sad reminder of what this world is coming to. sm
Not so much how and where you choose to run your business, but your attitude that sending work overseas is helping someone who might otherwise starve and Americans do not know what it is like to be truly hungry or need shelter. I don't know what golden palace you are living in, but drop by any inner-city area in the United States and tell me no one is starving or without shelter. Get off your pompous high horse and just admit that you are in it for the money, not to save the world.

For your sake, I hope an undertrained Indian MT (or otherwise overseas) never gets a hold of your medical record. Then again, at least you saved some money that way... Good day, Madam.

No, but first initial is same.
x
Is this the one with the initial "E" that just skyrocketed its
I think it has to do with BCBS of Tennessee. BTW, you do know that if you use the mail-order company for getting your RXs filled, they arranged with the pharmacies to receive rebates and special discounts, all of which are given back to BCBS of TN?
Company initial
P.  But I also just worked for another company, SGS, that had the same problem of not being able to check line counts...it was a radiology account too with no spell check, no word Expander program, etc.  I had to quit, I wasn't making any money because the program was so poor.
Is that employer's initial FI? nm
nm
a four initial company did this when I was there...sm
and i bailed.....Had to WAIT on QA before they could determine our lines. That is a load of crap.
Why does everyone say TT has so many ESL's. Can you give first initial of account where they are

PS: x's initial reply was respectful
nm
How long after initial questionnaire before they get back to you?
I filled out their questionnaire a few days ago, but still have not heard back from them. Not sure if that means they are not interested, or if they just take a while to hear back from. Any info on this company also would be appreciated.
That's awful. Can you give a first initial? I'm applying
nm
Agree. Child at work. Run along, little Initial Capser. nm
x
I thought it was no only VERY easy, but kinda fun, after the initial panic !!!
I received a job offer the next day which I also accepted. Nice to be working with you.
when docs give mtso a check, then mtso pays you?
nm
Isn't she an MTSO owner - which MTSO ? Just curious. n/mnn

MT-Friendly?

Can anyone please provide any info on the Emdat/Inscribe platform as far as it being MT-friendly and in terms of productivity?

TIA!

It's SUPER FRIENDLY for the MT. sm
It's all pretty self-explanatory.  Spell check is fine, not sure what exactly you are asking about that....
Some friendly advice
If you can't research the answers to your questions and find them independently without help, you're not going to like Amphion.
Medium, friendly co.
They have around 100 MTs. Jenn (the owner) is above wonderful. She is the best boss I have had. They leave you alone too, but are always available to answer any questions. Platform isn't too hard to learn either, at first it seems like a lot of info to remember, but all jobs seem like that at first. Tons and tons of samples.
MT-friendly platforms
You have read my mind. I love good old Word and sound files on Express Scribe. Still looking for more clinic work. Had a great gig and lost it due to another company typing for cheaper. My former MTSO raised her rates and lost a lot of her accounts. I am with a national now and I am not liking it very much.
MediTech not MT friendly
Yes Meditech Magic and Client Server are 2 different types of programs.  We have client server.  MediTech is not a good program for transcriptionist.  Our corporate has several sites.  When staff are transcribing going from one site to the next can be cumbersome.  There are several reports for line counts but they all measure a line differently. We had to create our own report that was based on a 65 character line.  It is difficult to manage reports without accounts - prereg, etc.  They hang out there in pending until an account is available.  We are currently looking for a different transcription solution.
friendly warning
I've known 3 people who worked for them now and here's the deal.  You will constantly run out of work.  There are short periods where they will pay a premium rate for overtime, but it will not make up for what you lose due to no work in general.  Also, don't expect your paychecks to be on time.  They are mailed from Canada to one of their editors in California and she then remails them, so it never comes on time and recently people didn't get paid at all, the pay was over a week late with no real explanation.  They just don't have it together.
It is TERRIBLE and NOT MT Friendly...sm
You will NOt make any lines on that thing.
Yep. Not user friendly at all. It
requires a lot of going from keyboard to mouse and back and forth. My backup account is Mongoose and I liked it much better.
the clients were in NY. nm
s
Maybe not your clients, but many are.
Your clients may be behind the times, but many are not. VR has gotten much, much better, and I've spoken with many, many MTSOs who are moving their accounts over.

The average seems to be about 60% to 80% VR and 20% to 40% transcription. There will always be those you cannot put on VR, but it is growing rapidly.
Not all clients DO know--that's just it!
Yes, some clients DO know, and the almighty dollar is the only thing they think of. But some clients DO care, and they don't know their records are going overseas. They would be apalled if they knew. Come to think of it, so would the patients.
not when the clients have the last say
Do not get me wrong. I do not care for it either, but somewhere down the line, the companies will have to suck it up and so will we. Otherwise, we move to a different field. Unfortunately, that is just the way it is.
Becoming an IC with own clients
How does a person become an IC with their own clients, not working for an MTSO? From what I have read on this board, it seems that is the way to make the most money per line/word/page, etc. so I am thinking about doing this after being an employee for 15 years (with things going downhill now). I would appreciate knowing several things:
1. How do you get the clients.
2. Are there certain types of docs that tend to prefer this situation rather than going to an MTSO?
3. How do you determine what to charge?
4. How can someone get the dictation, type it and return to the doctor without having to pick it up and drop it off?
5. Without QA other than yourself, how does an IC handle blanks? Do doctor's offices tend to get upset with blanks?
6. Is there a particular software system that is better to use when you have your own IC service and want to get work over the Internet and return it over the Internet?

This and any other advice greatly appreciated!
I'm sure they do tell their clients to sm
hide it from the MTSO, just like the MTSOs hide the fact that their clients' work is being generated by VR.
Do you think clients don't already KNOW about VR? That they are sm
being sold it at every AHIMA conference they go to? Being cold-called by companies doing VR already? That doc don't get info about it at their little retreats and conferences?

It's better to be proactive and have VR sold as part of an MTSO's offering (with MTs doing the editing) than being undercut by other VR-only companies.
user friendly software
Is there really a user-friendly software?  Is there one that you don't have to type in demographics anymore or at least get paid for it if you do?  Is there one that is actually fast and doesn't require a lot of changing from screen to screen?  What would it be?  I am not a computer savvy person, but it seems like all this technology is taking us backwards.  Also, I don't suppose you would like to tell us which company you work for.
Yes! There really is user-friendly software out there. /sm
You have to do your research, and ask questions in regards to companies with user-friendly software. Both companies I work for use proprietary software that is Word-based. It is all internet- The IC position software- I never change screens, the jobs download in seconds, press one key and demographics fill in (for which I am paid, including headers/footers)- tab down and there's the page you start typing, One click to physician roster- everything right at your fingertips, i.e. account specifics, BOS guidelines, etc. Full-time position - only two screens (demographic) then transcription screen. Everything at fingertips, doctor roster, etc.
I find it very user friendly. nm

Is it relatively user friendly and fast? nm

Precyse a MT-friendly company?

Who works there right now and is happy or not, and why?

How is the flexibility, workflow, hardware/software, benefits, health insurance, PTO, etc. ?  TIA

Meditech is NOT transcription friendly.
You are better off working per hour than production.  Maybe KS would consider that for the ones who are not happy.  Maybe the happy Keystrokers who post here are not using Meditech.  I know from 15 years of experience that Meditech is not the program to make production lines on, and whoever can do a lot of lines with all of the pauses and lags should try typing in Word, you'd be rich!!!!!
Meditech is not a transcription friendly
I worked on it for years.  You are better off working per hour transcribing using Meditech.  Some like it, some don't.  The spell check is not medical.  There are a lot of screens to go through before you actually get to type.  I guess once you find a rhythm you won't be donating too much time.  The F keys across the top of your keyboard are essential for maneuvering through the platform.  Also, be sure to save long reports mid report because sometimes Meditech closes out for no reason and then you could lose what you've typed.  FYI.
that is untrue. once you get used to it, it's very user friendly
and you can move around in it just fine, look up old reports on the same patient or any other for that matter --
Friendly warning-if you reply to OP here she SM
will email you through the board.  I replied below and got one.  I don't know why replying here wasn't enough.
Extext nor Exspeech is as MT friendly as DQS
Editing on DQS is much more profitable and MT friendly than ExSpeech, too.   IMHO
Bayscribe is not as user friendly as they say
DocQscribe much better. I agree that Bayscribe takes to much mousing, too many slots. Have to reselect report type after each report even if same worktype. Bayscribe needs some upgrading as far as functionality. Yes, it is doable but other platforms much more productive.
I find it very "MT friendly"....sm
Yes, it is Word-based....you use your own player software (I use Express Scribe) for the voice files, and you use your own Expander program. Lots of search options, by doctor, by patient, etc, to pull up old reports.  Minimal demographics to input (at least on the account I am on).  Accurate production count built-in that you can check at any time, also a great running log of your work history. I can clip right along in IScriptor - not the best I've ever used (that would be ChartNet) or the worst (Meditech), but basically no major complaints.  Good luck!
