I always thought the same thing

Thanks for the information!

the first thing i thought of...
Puppies ape sale. Mother on site
Thought the same thing myself.

I thought the same thing...

I thought the same thing.
I also thought that the original job post was just a little too vague.  I highly doubt this will even pay 7.  They only charge their clients 10 cpl, and they are also leasing the website for the company.  ????  Lots of ?????????????? for whoever takes this.
I thought the same thing
I've typed it, too. Granted every account is different, but at the time I had to type it into their (the VA hospital's) system, which was also rather, shall we say, burdensome. I would be very surprised if the VA has cut the amount that it pays, so.....
I thought the same thing when I read it. nm

Thought the same thing when I saw that this morning.

I hope you are right. I'm sure Brown at FEMA thought the same thing.
Remember the Boy Scouts' motto: "Always be prepared."

i don't think the spellchecker is lacking much more than any other
but the bayscribe is not near as comprehensive as dqs, ie, not as many features. but it is also way quicker to learn. Awesome to get a lost report back, no having to call in. easy to see how you were QA'd. Even with less features, i like it better.
Lacking work

I have barely had work for weeks now, and my one account has been slow for months, in spite of being promised that people would be moved off my accounts to the new ones.  It's very frustrating because I have 3 accounts and the daily emails for weeks now on each account will suggest that the MTs go to the other accounts for work, with none of them having much work.  My paychecks have been very short several in a row now and it's really starting to hurt our finances.

I would like to ask anyone who is having this problem, what type of accounts do you have?  Lanier, C-phone, or internet?  I am just curious if it's a particular type of account.  I have internet accounts.  I was very surprised when the email came out last week from Dorothy saying they were short so many lines and really needed help, because I can barely get work.  I don't know where the busy accounts are.  I would be happy to move to one of the busy accounts to get work, but the only info I have really received is to be patient, they are moving MTs around and it should get better.  It was worse this week, not better, having barely any work at all this week.

I don't want to say anything negative about MDI because I have been very happy there and love the company, but I am very frustrated and concerned.  I don't have a way to make up the money we are lacking week after week.  I also am wondering why they are hiring new MTs rather than moving those of us lacking work to the new accounts.  I just don't get it.

Not really lacking in work, but ---sm

I would like to run across a dictation where I didn't have to wonder what language they were dictating in. Just give me 25% of my present work, cut my line rate by 25% as well, but give me something I can work with. 99% ESLs or native-speaking train-catchers, sleep-walkers, belchers, Uh -- uh .. hmmm ... the patient ...uh ....the patient .... well, they don't pay the rent or feed my kids.

If, by some miracle, an actual UNDERSTANDABLE job pops up in an MT's queue, 1 of 2 things happen:  Dictator's cell phone will ring throughout most of the dictation or, if a halfway decent report shows up in the queue ... it's snatched up STAT by the one who has the capacity to do so, wants to get her own lines in on top of a salary, and which dictation job is promptly replaced in the regular MT's queue by a piece of manure.Well they say they have a right to do it just because they can.

Something greatly lacking in this industry is
It's like nothing I have ever seen in my life, and I have had a lot of exposure to many corporate, medical, legal, restaurant jobs in all parts of the United States. This job gets you less respect than a chambermaid job. I did that in college. Yes, this MT industry is the pits. What a shame! It used to be so good.
I'm not being rude. The OP is stating she is lacking
work, and you give her a lecture related to your problems. Again, apples and oranges. That means opposite! So you slacked off and caused the company problems, etc. Unless you know the OP personally and are accusing her of same, your post is irrelevant. Are you helping her get work? Are you answering her question why there is no work for her? No, you turned her post into your own post! Help the lady out and answer her questions - she didn't ask for your work history, etc. Nothing said negative about the company, so you're rather protective. Unless, as often happens here, a whole thread was deleted by now and I missed it! Peace to you! Just trying to point out that your post is not helpful or on topic of the original questions!
Management of supervisors is lacking

There is something wrong when an obvious nut case is a supervisor.  What is a nut case?  A person who lies.

I formally request that upper management across the board consider reviewing their supervisors by way of anonymous feedback from the MTs under them.

Scum rises to the top with the cream - regulation keeps the scum from staying in power.  Could we please have some regulations from upper management as the supervisors I am on occasion dealing with show clean signs of not having leadership qualities - I am witness to grown women, grandmothers, professionals who are lying and playing games, and it is not my imagination.

And this should wake you up because favoritism is taking place and the criteria to be given the best work has nothing to do with an MTs' ability to perform.

Not addressing this will cost you in the end - as the time and energy one utilize when they decide to chose the low road is money lost.  Morale suffers and just like a pyramid, your company will crumble.  India, you say?  Scum is rising to the top there as well.  Comcast has just returned.

Has everyone in leadership sold out to The Man and The Money?  This is the true sign of decline - When integrity is lacking, word of mouth will wipe you off the map - complacency and true lack of desire to do a good job is the collateral damage when you allow cheaters, liars and thieves to supervisor (lead) us.

If they're lacking in skills as you say, maybe they should apply for

They're already qualified for that, especially if they have 7 kids and no experience at MT any further back than 2003.

Newbie bud is working for them and she's lacking several payments right now. Time

I'm a midwest MT too (Kansas) ... but my gourd painting skills are definitely lacking too. :( n

Have you considered radiology tech or lab tech?
A lot of the credits you have acquired for nursing transfer to both of those programs. Probably a little less stressful.
sorry, I mean not the HR director, not department. A recruiter is usually under sm
the HR department, but is not the director unless it is a company that is so small there is only one person doing everything. If you did a chart, there would be the HR department headed by an HR director who is responsible for the administrative things in HR, not recruiting. Most directors really are not good recruiters. Most directors are also lacking in the people skills, but they are knowledgeable in all aspects of human resource law.

Sorry to say department above. I was thinking one way, typing another.
go to the department of labor web site
and check out their TAA and ATAA page --Trade Adjustment Asisstance Program and Worker Adjustment and retraining and notification act. Congress was talking about extending benefits for people who have lost their jobs due to offshoring. My heart goes out to your all.
I have forwarded all responses to HR Department. sm
Hopefully they are doing THEIR part and contactnig people. If you dont mind, e-mail me and let me know who you are and I'll try to light a fire under them!
Department B transcription services

Has anyone ever heard of a company called Department B or older name PM&R?? I have an interview scheduled for Tuesday but I was just wondering if anyone knew anything on this company.

My son applied for a department store once, sm
and they asked him all kinds of psychologic questions - it was just weird.
send this to your insurance department for their
policy book. Why would you put this on this board?
I worked in QA Department for the Q about 12 years ago. sm
The last straw for me was an MT who consistently typed preformed instead of performed. She refused to change or just didn't care to go over her feedback. Manager would do nothing about it because she too worked 3rd shift. I will never go back to doing QA again. I make more money as a Transcriptionist anyway.
Contact the labor department.
They will investigate and fine them for not paying in employment taxes, etc., as by having to ask for time off, vacation, etc., that means you are an employee and not an IC.
That's a bit misleading. It is NOT just the IT department. The techs sm

who allocate the dictation files to you nothing to do with IT.  If you have a computer issue, they will get someone from IT for you, but Marie and the rest are not part of that department.  The ENTIRE COMPANY is based in India.  Yes, they hire American MTs, but the company is in India, and they at one point even lied to the MTs and said work was slow due to Christmas (this was in the middle/latter part of January), then one of the techs admitted they had outsourced to an Indian MT company.

They are not the worst company to work for -- the pay is decent and on time -- although I never cared for the way the work was allocated and I absolutely DESPISE the fact that they are now lying and misrepresenting themselves in their ads saying they are based in Kentucky.  There is a residential HOUSE in Kentucky owned by the Indian owner.  Why not just be upfront about it in their ads?

Letter from Department of Labor
Has anyone received a letter from the Department of Labor from the state where your employer is located, indicating they are investigating the company regarding various contract laws?  I work for a wonderful company and can't imagine why they would be investigated, unless this is another way to squeeze out medical transcription companies and send everything to India to reduce healthcare costs.
Go to the Department of Labor website

It is fully explanatory there.  It does not apply to at-home MTs unless they have 50 employees working within a 75-mile radius of them.

I have called the police department already..sm
I am not playing.  They faxed me the paperwork and I am giving her until Friday for a cashier's check OR money order is in my hands, she is in trouble!  LIES LIES LIES that is all she has done.
What people seem to misunderstand is that a recruiter is not the HR department. They are the sm
recruiter. HR director or department head deals with the rules of human resources, benefits, numbers, etc. Recruiter is the KEY person, the one people-oriented individual, the one who talks and gets to know the prospective employee, the one who tests and usually the one who checks the references. That person hires the people. It is the job of the recruiter in any company to hire the individual and THEN to forward paperwork to the department that needs the MT. Now, as a recruiter, I follow through within three (3) days' time to see that all the necessary contact with that individual and department has been made and if it has not been made, I put the crunch to that department head to step on it. We are dealing with people who need a job and have quit their job supposedly to work for us. No one can afford a lapse in employment unless they want a week off in between, which sometimes they do.

Too many people seem to think HR is the recruiter, but in a company with a true chain of command, that usually is not the case.

I don't know how this company operates in that area, but most of the companies I know that are in growth put an HR dept in place, have a director, and 1 or 2 recruiters. The recruiters hire. The individual departments are responsible for getting those people up and running BUT because I know how important it is to get people started and started on time and because sometimes I feel that no one can do the job as well as me (sadly), I have to follow up to make sure those people are not forgotten.

This is worrisome to me that I feel this way, but unfortunately I have come across companies that have let this happen and I do put a fire underneath the departments and it is successful.
Interview with in-hospital transcription department
and wondering what the rate is for in-house.  Ten years ago when I was an in-house transcriptionist, I was paid 13.00 an hour and 5 cpl for everything over 500 lines per day.  Just wondering how the setup is now or if that has changed.  I live in Alabama and the hospital I have an interview with, will eventually transition their MTs to working from home.
Ortho department has testing, the others do not at this time. nm

HR Department at Keystrokes is a director, a clerk/secretary sm
and a recruiter. The director is new but only does the legal stuff and is working on the benefits package, etc. The clerk is doing the paperwork. The recruiter is doing the recruiting, interviewing, checking references, passing hire info on. The pieces are in place now and you just validated what has just been put in place. I know there is talk of a second recruiter, one for radiology and one for medical records, but I think this is still in the baby stages. The HR Director heads the department but will not recruit.
Yes, turn them in to the Department of Labor and Industry for nonpayment.
Try the BBB or FTC for unfair labor practices. Send them a certified letter demanding payment or you'll sue in small claims court.
if I remember correctly, isn't that Spheris' India department?
Supposedly over 4000 employees, JUST for that India account, according to Advance Health Magazine...
I wrote to their HR department, which is the only contact I could find for them, last week, but no r

The formal QA department is new only started last August. Before that, it was up to the lead MT'
to do QA. That obviously did not work for them and they started a QA department.

Ortho has only done formal QA reviews.

Radiology does QA reviews but internally and only comes to the MT's if there is a problem, otherwise tells them they are doing well.

No complaints at all. Platform is super MT friendly. Great QA department.
Very happy at Medware.
Trans Tech Medical Solutions or Trans Tech Svcs?
Which is the one that everyone is always saying is so good to work for?  Trans Tech Medical Solutions or Trans Tech Services out of Iowa?  Thanks for any clarity you can provide!!!!
I actually thought of that. I even thought of trying to go back to MQ part-time!! (sm)
I just wonder about hours at a second company.  I work days (and some nights) with this company.  I have a set schedule but with the no work situtation I've been on the computer at all hours of the day and night.  Right now I have no work, so I would love to jump on at a company #2 and start working.  Do you have to have set hours at your company #2?  Thanks for the suggestion.
Debate is one thing, and posting is one thing,
but this is getting absurd. I think it must be the same person, otherwise multiples who cannot stay on topic?? Why can't you STICK with the subject? The subject of my post was NOT what your cent per line rate was or is - I could care less- and not how much money you made last year, this year, or in your life, but how silly the comment was that your cents per line rate means NOTHING, that its up to you - some fluff like that. That is just so silly. Again, working for the same company, same account, is one going to make more money being paid more per line? OF course! This is so frustrating and really makes me so tired of reading this garbage let alone posting. Its like a nightmare. And also makes me completely believe that the original company must pay peanuts.
good thing it is a temporary thing sm
because people with your attitude don't stay in anything very long anyway. Nobody has to listen to that crap to keep their job.

You don't know me either. you can say old fart all you want (when did 53 get to be old fart....too funny) but at least I am a valuable employee who can get a decent job!
Med-Tech
I worked there for 2 years and I liked it fine. The company has been going through changes internally and going onto a neew system, so I don't know how it is now. You do have to work in-house until you get up to speed (I think that is still applicable) No problem with getting paid direct deposit every two weeks. Supervisors and QA people are readily available for questions/problems. A very fair and nonabusive QA team Some have not liked the company, but I found them fair and easy to work for, one of the better services I have been involved with. They deal with hospitals and large clinics, no individual practices. You get a variety of work. You do have to start out working evening shifts, I believe....like I said I've been gone for a while, but I hope this helps.
Med-Tech

I tested with Med-Tech a few days ago and I got an E-mail today to contact them regarding my scores. Does anyone know if this is a good company and/or if this is good news? Thanks!
