you want.  If you like MTSO you are with now, get more work from there.  If not go after what you want with different MTSO, different job, whatever.  Whats the big deal with askin for more work with MTSO you are with, if you like them.  No different that asking to work for (by applying to) any other MTSO. A real pro knows to get proactive and steer you life in the direction you want it to go.

You missed the point of the post
The writer was asking you why you don't simply get another job (or a second one)... Unless you are new to this biz, you have to know to diversify and have more than one job at all times.

Doesn't mean I don't sympathize - and I speak from experience. Rad is all I do and I wouldn't dream of being without a back up at all times.

You totally missed the point of my post.
You just restated my point. The above poster is lucky that she started at 0.095 cpl. That has not been my experience. But I am thrilled to be working at 7 cpl. As I stated before, even at 7 cpl, I make more money than I ever did at any other job. I currently making over $17 an hour at 7 cpl and my pay keeps increasing each month as I get better on my account, so I am not complaining. No need to get down on me when you clearly misunderstood my post.
All your jobs have come knockin on your door? You
ew
Uh, no. I'd say YOU missed the point.

The first poster said: "You could take someone off the street and that person WOULD be doing the best they could possibly do."  Poster never said "could".  The only way someone off the street WOULD be doing their best is if they got hired.  The other person's opinion about companies not hiring someone off the street is correct in context.

you missed my point
poster did not ask who makes really great money. Yes, you are making what you make, yes that is real. To tell the poster that $50,000 year is decent is not realistic. Making $25,000 a year is decent and realistic. Do you understand?
I see you missed the point

You Missed My Point

I think you missed the point of my post.  I would not have been upset had I tested and interviewed with SoftScript and then been turned down.  But I received the nasty email ripping into me, accusing me of being mad because I was turned down, when I reality I had never even had a chance to test or interview.  The email stated specifics topics that were discussed, but I never had that discussion with anyone at SoftScript.  I think they had me confused with another applicant.  That was what upset me.  The recruiter did make a very bad impression with her jumping to conclusions.  I am a good MT with almost 20 years experience in acute care transcription.  To be told that my verbal and written grammar skills are substandard makes it sound like I'm illiterate.  I do accept criticism when it is given fairly and is constructive.  But I should at least be given the chance to fail, instead of just being told I failed without even being given a fair chance.

missed the point
You missed the point.  I am not saying that prideful is not a word.  It simply does not apply to me. LOL!
point missed
and that is my fault, not yours. I relize that maybe because you probably didn't take HR classes that some of that was lost - probably on most people here. So let me clarify.

Most likely the [transcriber] post was a company's HR representative that has probably never been a Transcriptionist and has no desire to become one. He or She has a degree in business with emphasis on Human Resource so they know how to write job postings and the laws related to HR and other such information that relates to HR and only HR.

The point of my post is that just like someone confusing nauseous with nauseated this HR person confused Transcriber with Transcriptionist.

On a further note, it would have been a fantastic step in a forward direction to apply for this job and gently and kindly point this out to the HR person in the cover letter. Sometimes an applicant stands out because of the information that was provided not just about themselves but also about the company or about something obscure or consistantly overlooked about the industry - like transcriber versus transcriptionist.

Again, my fault this point was missed, I assumed people would know that an HR person probably wouldn't know or care about the difference - and we all know what a-s-s-u-m-e means! :)
My point was missed
If, for example you quote as low as you attach parameters to it: Clean dictation, x amount TAT, ETC.

This just shows that the client COULD get a low price - and that low price is attached to specifics of each job.

The FIRST question I was asked every time I was called for work was 'WHAT DO YOU CHARGE' - I explained that it was based on the nature and difficulty of the work, TAT, etc., and that I would do a sample dictation and offer a firm quote.

Most people will understand as low as We all see ads for merchandise or services as low as xx - and most of the time we know in advance it's probably not the SUPREME package. Still, it gives someone an idea of where the cost of service will START.
Think u missed the point
We're not objecting to having several accounts, but that's why MQ is so *^&-up; an MT can reasonably tackle only so many accts and make money. We're commenting that MDI STARTED OUT with an MT having 1 or 2 accts and then BACK-UP secondary accounts. That whole scenerio changed. We tried to change with it. Reality is reality; if there's nothing to transcribe we MAKE NO MONEY.

*Oh, p l e a s e, can I have another account p l e a s e?*
How many times do we have to do that? C'mon.
Uh, you kind of missed the point.
which is, someone off the street could also say "I'm going my best. That's all I can do." Poster never said companies should go and hire someone off the street.  Geez..sometimes I wonder about the people in this profession.
You totally missed the point
There was a string of posts (a discussion) about Transcription Matchmaker that was deleted. There were some negative remarks within the string of posts. We are not talking about a job ad. Transcription Matchmaker advertises on this board (see banners at top of page). The moderator deleted the negative posts.
Yes, the point was missed. And we MTSOs DO ...
have ways of communicating re: MTs. For one thing, we can read these boards and many times we can figure out who people are by the things they say and their style of writing. For another, we have a network and know each other through organizations we belong to so we do discuss things like this.

We're not completely in the dark and I know that wasn't the point of your post but I wanted to let that be known. I got the point and I do hope at least some others did as well. ;)
Read on because you missed the point.

You missed an important point
You should walk in the shoes of any nationality that will accept to work for peanuts before you make such a statement. For many in other countries what they are paid is *not* peanuts to them.

We are slowing being pushed into poverty wages right here in the US - and we still accept that work. So its all relative. What to you may be peanuts it to them a lifeline...

you totally missed the point bobo..
don't you dare tell me you never left one job to get a better one!! PuH-LeEzE!!

NOW WHAT!!??
You missed the point. She has people that do the hiring because she is busy with her own
responsibilities. There are just people that feel they need to talk to Lee or no one, and those people find that they do not get things done as they should because they did not go through the right people.

If you knew Lee, you would know how wrong you are. I have never worked for someone as respectful or caring of others and I have worked for a lot of people in and out of transcription. This is the ONLY company where I have ever felt that I was treated as a person. How horrible of you to judge someone that you do not know.
Disregard. I missed the below post.
sorry
You missed something in my post. I was not talking about ICs only employees. nm
nm
Apparently you missed the prior post.
AcuQuist based it's pay cut on an attempt to bring us in line with an average industry wage, part of their new mediocrity- not just for cheap wine policy. Therefore, being better, faster and more accurate, is not a desirable quality, and therefore we are being penalized for it.
That's the point of my post --

We have no information.  We've only been given a few quick answers in a phone call.

The pay cuts everyone is referring to are to the existing Transcend employees, not the MTs from the MDI merger.  Nothing will change with us until January 1st.  The answers you received in that phone call only apply until January 1st.  After that, we're fair game for pay cuts.

I'm looking today, too!  I've had enough of sitting around hoping and praying for something good to come out of this.  If I jump the gun and lose 1 or 2 cents per line, at least I'll still have my sanity.  I have a feeling though, if I stay, I'll lose much more than 1 or 2 cents a line with Transcend.

This was a very stupid move on Transcend's part.  If they were going to do pay cuts, it would have been smarter for them to wait until after January 1st.  They've just given us a sneak preview of how they treat their employees.

Only jobs post on Job board!! nm

only jobs post on job board
I was asking a question about a company on the company board and it completely disappeared. It's not on the job board or man board...I just replied to my own post to ask the question again though.
MTSOs must post their own jobs
nm
not all companies post jobs here -

why bother being so rude.

Hardly any jobs out there post the salary.

I don't think it matters if it's transcription or what.  I can't imagine testing for a company before calling them and flat out asking what the pay rate is for the position being offered.  What a total waste of time for both the company and the applicant.

...and I personally do not think it is inappropriate to laugh at a ridiculous rate and slam down the phone either.  I think the asshats out there who are offering a nickel a line need to get laughed at and rudely hung up on to boot.  None of this PC politeness garbage of thanking them for their time either if they pull a number like that out of their hineys.  A man sure as heck wouldn't stand for that kind of pud pullin'...why should we?!

Wonder why these companies post jobs

with low line rates but requiring years of experience.  Who out there is desperate enough to fall for this?  Maybe they should try an overseas job board somewhere.

Re-read my post - that was my point! nm

I agree with your post, but I still want to point out
that it is me (and the ones who stood with me) who came out as the winners in this argument.

I corrected definitely wrong grammar (10 times the same mistake in 1 post) and I was NOT nit-picking, whereas I was consequently singled out and nit-picked on by questioning my style, whereas BOTH versions are acceptable.

I can with certainty say that posters who are 100% against me and even started bad-mouthing me, although I corrected righfully wrong grammar, are the MTs with the bad grammar and spelling, refusing to admit their mistakes and should therefore NOT be MTs, because they have generally bad morals.
why is OSI allowed to post jobs on this site??? SM
It is on their website that they have an offshore office in the Phillipines.
Maybe it's because they post jobs and never respond to people.
Has anyone actually had them respond to a resume?
You are not supposed to post jobs on the job board
Again...you are not to post jobs on the job board unless you work in the capacity to recruit.
Don't know who this is but they only post jobs to stay legal..

I know exactly how it works, don't bother applying you will be wasting your time.

Did you read XO post? She said 23 jobs posted in 1
x
You miss the point and the irony of your post!
They are mass hiring still and have NO work. The future is the future, and now is now. I certainly think it is unethical at the very least to continue to hire MTs when the ones who are there are scrambling for a job or 2. No matter now nicey-nice they may be, that is NOT nice, no matter how you slice it. They have no right to be hiring with work shortages, unless they state that up front, which, of course, they do not!
Your post makes my point. If IC, company is NOT
x
Well, yes. But my point is the OP said wanted people to post

positive experiences with Focus.  I've seen other posts like this where a person will ask about a specific MTSO and say something like just good things or no negative posts please.

It just strikes me as looking at the world through rose colored glasses.  How can you make an informed decision if you only consider one side of an argument?  It's just silly.  Why bother to ask any questions at all?  Just take the job and be done with it.  People take time to answer questions honestly here and try to help out fellow MTs so they don't make the same mistakes we've made and what thanks do we get?

Pollyannas like the OP who just wants to hear the good.

This site USED to post in house hospital jobs - sm
And this is just MY opinion, but I think what probably happened is that the hospitals were probably getting bombarded with every MTSO service contacting them, and individuals contacting them about outsourcing their work, and it probably became too much for them. An acquaitance mentioned one time that she had advertised on this board for on site and specified that it was on site, along with very specific job specifications, and apparently it didn't matter - everybody and their brother applied for the job, including waitresses and nannies who had never even had one iota of medical terminology, let alone job experience.

That's just my 2 cents
I think the point was to POST names of good companies for all MTs to see,
x
The above post proves my point! You are out of line and that was uncalled for..sm
not to mention utterly ridiculous to even read. Why are you reaching so high to make this MT look bad because she doesn't want to work a weekend? Get over it already. The OP obviously has a life, some of us do! Maybe it's time you get one!
EXCELLENT post. Thank you for a balanced point of view. nm

Jesus doesnt post on this board. No point in asking Him any questions here.

Try re-reading the original post...you're missing the point

To Moderator: Is Seroesh Saleem Akhtar allowed to post on the jobs board?

Don't think any do except for those in-house jobs. Some QA jobs are paid hourly. nm

They didn't take our jobs, QT gave them our jobs. The account is now
back in the hands of US MTs, or will be in just a couple of weeks.
Are MTs that are looking for jobs finding good jobs right now with everyone looking or is it
getting more difficult to find a good job.  I am most interested in jobs for experienced MTs with more than 10 years service.  I wonder if it is better to put a resume on or just keeping applying or what is the best way to go about this.
