Don't buy the canned ones. They are gross.

Posted By: pc on 2008-10-21
In Reply to: Sweet Potatoes - sm.

Last year we bought a bag of potatoes, and didn't use them before they started to sprout. Then I baked all of them and froze them in freezer bags.  Took one out of freezer and thawed in microwave when we wanted one.  Delicious.  I just put butter on mine.

Anything canned

Paper products, plastic cups, utensils, toliet paper, diapers, pads, sunscreen,  baby wipes for sponge baths, etc. There may be no way to wash dishes.

Water. Fill up your tub  and all trash cans so you can flush your toliet.

Bleach... You can't have enough bleach

Brand name trash bags. Wet stuff is heavy.

Lotrimine or anti-fungal cream.. walking in wet stuff..

Soda. They give out ice eventually. Everyone ends up with more ice and water bottles than they know what to do with. Soda is great if the smell of mold makes you sick.

Drink mixes, if you get MREs they all don't come with kool-aid LOL.

Canned fruit, cups of fruit, applesauces, granola bars, chips, cookies, cereal, anything from the processed cereal and snack areas! Granola mix is great!!!! Crakcers and pb are filling too.

Canned meat like tuna and chicken.

Fresh fruit until it goes bad.

Cleaning supplies, with no power the mold gets really bad.

Fabreeze or something to spray your gross clothing with!

ENTERTAINMENT. There is so much waiting.

Canned Food
Have you tried him on mostly canned food rather than dry?  Wet is better for cats than dry, particularly CRF cats.
What to do with canned tomatos
I have bought canned tomatos for something which didn't work out.  Any ideas so they don't go to waste (p.s. - we don't eat beef).  They are S&W tomatoes with italian seasoning.  Would it just be too bland to serve them over some cooked pasta?  I'm not the most creative cooks and have been known to burn water.  HA HA
canned air not bad for environment today...

Fluoroethanes don't have chlorine atoms. This means they aren't CFCs, and thus they do not deplete the ozone layer. No offense, but unless you have information these dusters contain chlorofluoroethanes (not likely as these have been phased out for quite some time now) or that fluoroethanes are proven to have some other harmful effects, you really need to think before spreading misinformation.  By spreading this misinformation, you are giving (knowledgeable) environmentalists a bad name.

Canned meat - the spinach of Dog

Canned tomatoes are very versatile

Not bad with cubed tofu, either.  Also, what about vegetarian lasagna, eggplant parmesan, vegetable soup.  More recipes are here, some vegetarian, but you can always substitute ground turkey or leave out the beef.

Mac n Cheese with canned tuna
I know it sounds gross, but it is totally awesome!

Also, a great next day meal for left over pork chops: Pork Fried Rice (my way lol)

Cut the pork chops up in pieces. Cook enough rice for however many are eating, and then in a skillet put a little bit of oil and cook a couple of eggs (I do one per person). Scramble them up and then take them out and set them apart in a bowl. Add a little more oil to the skillet, and throw in the rice. Stir it around for a few minutes, and then add salt and pepper, some terriyaki sauce, and half a bag of frozen mixed veggies (green beans, corn, and carrots). Stir this around until the veggies are thawed but still a little crisp. Add the egg back in and stir it all up. If you have sesame seeds throw those in.

Oh and don't forget to put the pork back in!

That's one of my hubby's faves that I make.
Yes, canned food is very good for cats SM
I give my 3 cats one can a day. It has water in it, so it keeps them well-hydrated. My cats love the new Meow Mix wet food. They have been eating it for a year without any problems at all.
Actually it is answering the one who said should be canned, creating hostile
work place- yours was not a good working situation also. I think people, unless in your situation, just do not realize what a problem others have. It is not something you try to do by making so many trips to the bathroom. People working for others sometimes just have to suck up things and as my mother would have said, consider the source- if you are rude, crude, inconsiderate, lacking manners- a person fits this category and you just take with a grain of salt and overlook others like this.
Love canned tomatoes!. Here are some ideas.
Put some frozen bean and cheese burritos in cassarole, pour tomatoes (doesnt matter if they are any flavor or not) over them, add cheese on top and bake at 350 til hot and cheese melted and brown. Or mix with chicken broth, chicken, cumin, pepper flakes (optional), other fave spices and make mexican chicken soup. Top with strips of toasted tortillas. Cook shredded chicken in tomatoes with fave mexican spices and serve on tortillas for mexican chicken rolls. Again, doesnt matter if called Italian tomatoes, will work with anything.
Looks like someone needs to get a life. The canned creamed soups from Campbell
are delicious, healthy (if you use Healthy Choice), and makes endless recipes WITH chicken breasts, fresh veggies, etc. You'd never be invited to our home because we use A LOT of canned stuff! Merry Christmas!
I was lucky - I had some canned Nutro Max but my kitty didn't like it, (sm)
which is unusual for her. Usually she'll eat just about any kind of canned food. When I read about the recall, I had 3 cans of it and I tossed it out. But FIRST, I wrote "RECALLED" on the can in Marks-A-Lot, just in case any dumpster-divers got hold of it and wanted to feed it to their cat. So for now we're sticking to Friskies & Fancy Feast wet, and Royal Canin dry cat food.
Any recipe ideas that can use canned tuna and rice?

I'm scraping the bottom of my pantry barrel so to speak.  I just found canned tuna that I forgot I had and a box of instant brown rice.  Any ideas on combining those two?

Thanks.

Is it safe to drink unopened canned items
That have been refrigerated for a couple weeks. Found a can of pineapple juice my husband put in the refrigerator a couple weeks ago, but didn't open. I know it's not safe to put open cans in the refrigerator, not sure about something that has not been opened yet.
Gross!
I hate them more, but the last time I was there when they ripped me off I noted the same thing. I felt like I was shopping in a Third World Country. It was not a "fun experience" and it won't happen again, I can tell you. Can you imagine having to change an infant's diaper in their bathroom? Never! I only went there because the item I had to have was ONLY in their store in our area and no other store had it. My advice to Walmart shoppers is, "Just say no."
To me this is gross
Rectal exam reveals soft, brown stool in the vault. Eww. It just makes me want to throw up when I hear that.
Oh gross!!!! SM
I HATE spiders! Even the smallest ones freak me out!!! I LOVE summer, but the only part I hate about it is the little visitors we tend to get in our house during that time of year! I'm always afraid that there is going to be something in our bed!

I'll never forget the night last fall when I was in my office working, and one of our cats came in and dropped a half-dead mouse right at my feet and then jumped up in my lap and tried to lick my face after that thing had been in his mouth! Ick!
This might gross some out sm
but I saw this at a baby shower years ago and it was certainly an ice breaker!  Gift was a potty chair - with a tiny Tootsie roll in the pot with some yellow jello.  It was hysterical.  I guess it would depend on the mom and the guests - this was a pretty funny light-hearted crowd and it went over well:)
N/T That was gross
In fact, I have to say that I have a pretty weak stomach and when that particular scene came on I couldn't watch most of it. I ended up changing the station. I think the grossest I've seen by far though is when the people that were harvesting kidneys ended up killing that homeless man and they took everything! That almost made me throw up.
i think it is gross
i saw he/she, which one do you call her/he, and i felt sick to my stomach.  YUCK.  we were watching the evening news and they showed this picture and the kids were freaking out and thought it was gross.
ew gross
Reminder though, this is a couple. i dont know anything about them, but the girl just emailed me and told me about the town, and she said "i hope you're having a good day". to me that is nice. I emailed her back and said I had several questions. Do you think it is appropriate to ask their ages?
I've used canned tomatoes in tossed salad in the wintertime...
because I can't stand the plastic tomatoes they sell out of season in the store. I also use them in tuna salad, chicken salad, etc. In summer, we grow our own, but for winter the canned ones are great, especially the petite-diced.
I've given dry + canned + cubed skinless chicken breasts.
Snacks have been:

1. Generic "beggin' strips" like you.
2. Cheese bits, but little or no other dairy.
3. Now and then (expensive), dried chicken strips that have glucosamine & chondroitin for joints. Otherwise, I use a powder with G & S that says it also adds fiber. A couple of tbsp of this mixed in their food per day.

The chicken I add is one breast between two dogs AM and PM, so they each get one whole chicken breast per day (skinless, removing any fat). I also let them lick the two baking dishes whenever I fix the chicken. Now and then they also do the dinner dishes in order to save on our hot water bill. They're such good kitchen help I've been trying to get them dishwasher jobs, but the only restaurant that was interested didn't offer benefits. :)
Warning: gross

Sometimes when I've popped a really big one, that night I will dream about little white worms coming out of my skin.

Yuck yuck yuck yuck yuck!

My hubby's dog is gross sm
He's a Golden Retriever with a passion for stuffed toys that squeak. Loves to play with them, squeeze them to hear them squeak, throw them around and then tear them apart til he gets the little squeaker inside. We don't let him have those toys anymore because, well, he destroys them. Stuffing everywhere.  Anyway, I went to call in the dogs earlier and, yep, there he was tossing something in the air. Turned out to be a baby rabbit, only about 4 inches long, just the right squeaker toy size.  Poor thing, the dog kept chomping on it to hear it squeal. Took me 10 minutes to chase the dog around the yard in 95+ heat. I had to stop working for a half hour to bury it. First time he has ever done this and he knew I was mad.  I couldn't look at him for 2 hours.
My hubby's dog is gross
Awww, poor baby bunny and poor you. BAD DOG!
That is gross!!! My dogs do that too.
Then they come over and try to give you kisses, and they always aim for the lips of course. You think "awww, how cute, they love me", then you smell that smell and you know exactly what they've been eating - cat poo. It's just nasty. I don't see why they would want to eat that, but guess all dogs do it. We call them "cat cookies".
Gross - come on guys!

In the kitchen - where you prep food and possibly eat?  How sanitary is that?

The bedroom isn't too bad, I guess, but isn't there anywhere else you can put the things?

And how many cats do you have that you need 4 litter boxes?

I sense a weird *cat lady* amongst us.

Kind Of Gross

A Co worker/friend mentioned to me today that she had an embarassing problem, but wasn't sure if she needed to go to have it checked out. She said she occassionally had an odor in her belly button. She treats it by applying peroxide to it nightly.

I think her problem may be an infection of some kind anyway I suggested she have it looked at. Another co worker said it was a common problem & no big deal, I personaly never had the problem, the other co worker said she gets it all the time & that all it is, is lint trapped in there & then gets irritated. What cha think?

This may seem gross or morbid...sm
But has anyone ever gone to a wake or funeral of a person who was in an accident and they were disfigured from the accident but it was an open casket?  I went to my first such wake last night and I have to say that is disturbing when you see someone in that condition and especially when they are young as this girl was.  I honestly don't know how the family can take it.  I feel for them.  I was just kind of surprised that the casket was left open.  She had major head trauma.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Just wondering.
Ewww gross...
Big yuck. I got nauseous just looking at that junk.
Not a dessert. And what is it with all this canned stuff. People use fresh these days. Cook a sm
chicken breast, for goodness sake.  Do not open a can and serve it to guests.
Our Chihua/rat terrier mix will eat any kind of fruit, even canned stuff. And fresh

LOL - that is gross I would not have bought ice cream from him

Re: Matt - I agree - that was gross (sm)
Don't know what I think about Julia.  Is this the last show of the season, cause they didn't show any previews.  Best show on TV, I think.
Acceptable? or Just Plain GROSS?
link below.
I need your opinion. Kinda gross.

Okay, we have had a problem with mice.  H set some traps and we caught some but everytime I cooked something in the oven it stunk.  So, I have not used the oven.  H finally had time to remove the top part of the stove and found the problem.  On top of the oven, underneath where the burners are, (that part) there were dead mice.  He said babies.  The insulation on top of the oven is gone.  He doesn't know really what to do.  He tried to get insulation from the hardware store, but was told that insulation that you use in houses won't do.  He went to a place where they fix stoves and sell used ones and they say that if it smells like mice, they chunk them.  I asked H if they were just saying that to sell us one of theirs.  He said he did not know and he did not want think he can eat another meal cooked on that stove.  We cannot really afford payments on a new one and  he said not one of theirs is below $200 used.  I told him well, maybe we should just rely on the crock pot and the microwave for a while.  I can also can fry eggs on my waffle iron.  Man, I have got cakes, bread, cookies that I so wanted to bake.  H wanted to make a pizza but when I reminded him we did not have an oven, his face fell.   It is missed terribly.

He did find some holes in the wall behind the stove where they (Mice) gnawed through the wall and is getting some foam as we speak, write...

What would you do?  Right now, I am trying to think of things I can sell.

News flash, most of us have had S-E-X. Nothing gross about it.

What are we, in kindergarten here?  Geez, the OP was simply celebrating the fact that she had a millineum baby.  There was nothing graphic about her post.  She didn't give a blow by blow description of the conception process.  I'm sure a lot of people ring in the new year in bed.

I think it's time for you and your parents to have THE talk!

GROSS doggie question.
Bruiser is 14 months old, Duke is a year old. Bruiser licks Duke's behind a lot. We've only had Bruiser for two months, and I've noticed the licking just within the last couple of weeks. He also licks Duke's eyes and ears.

I don't think Duke's anal glands need expressed. He doesn't drag his butt or anything like that, and his stool is fine.

What's up with this behavior, anyone know?
You must pick gross men in general...

Let's just call you stinky girl

A gross subject, but I gotta ask --

My son is 11 and the last few days has had a few "wet farts" -- there's no color to it, but enough to soak through his jeans.  He didn't even notice it, said he didn't feel wet, but we noticed it and so did another child at school.  At first, I thought he just sat in something wet, but when he came home from school with it, I took a second look at his jeans and noticed the position of it was more in line with "an accident."  He says he doesn't remember passing gas.  There's a slight discoloration to it and a slight odor.

I've never had this happen to me personally except when I was getting over diarrhea.  Has anyone else had this happen without being sick?  Any ideas on what could be causing it?  I'm hoping it's not a rectocele or IBS.

But 8 children, each from a different father? That's gross?..nm
nm
Head cheese, it's so gross.
My dad used to love it and told me he would give me 5 bucks if I tried it. I did and I hated it. I got the 5 bucks though, even though I threw it up. I gag whenever I see it.
I agree, a 2-1/2 year old is gross, period.
But a blanket over the toddler? The kid would probably start playing peek-a-boo and winking and laughing. How about that for a visual. Ick! lol
And sniffling and gross nose sounds
It always seems like ENT doctors have the worst allergies and sinus problems.
need help with puppy - Kinda gross post
I just got a 4 month old min-pin about 2 or 3 weeks ago. She was eating Iams puppy food from the person I got her from. I don't like Iams foods, so I switched her over to Royal Canin puppy (dry stuff). Well somewhere along the lines she got the runs and at first I thought it was from switching food, but it has continued and started to have blood and mucus in it. So I called the vet thinking it may be worms or something wrong. Well I took in a "specimen" and they said there was nothing wrong. They told me to do the hamburger and rice and give pepto. Well I tried that, and it cleared up at first, but now it is back even on the hamburger and rice. I don't know what to do now. Any suggestions?
Wow! Tha't's gross! I hope she kept her mouth shut?..nm
nm
String bean casserole made with that goopy canned cream of mushroom soup!
nm
Whole wheat pasta with sauce, put in chunks of chicken instead of beef, and drained canned tomatoes.

cheerios. taget practice might sound gross but it has always worked for me.

I have taken care of and have potty trained a lot of little boys over the years all starting before 2 and the best thing I found was putting cheerios in the toilet and having them try to shoot the cheerios, like target practice.  I have also used fruit loops and made a game of which color they could hit.  Anything that floats and is flushable is fair game.  They love the game and always want to go potty.

If it is warm where you live a few days going pee outside works too.  They can go when they want, do it themselves and learn how to control their urges quickly.

On the other hand, #2 for most boys I have found is harder.  They usualy hold it for too long and need to get their bowels on a regular cycle.  I have had a couple boys up until 4 hold it all day long and then go home and their mother would put a diaper on them so they would go and then want to be changed right away.  As soon as the mothers stopped that though the child went to the potty fine.  I would recomend talking with his doctor if that happens.

Good Luck!!!  It will happen when he is ready.

Canned pumpkin - not pumpkin pie filling but sm
take your mix, add 1 can (i think 15 oz?) and one cup of water. Mix and bake as usual. This is an old Weight Watchers friendly recipe and is about 100 calories per serving, high in fiber and DELICIOUS. Make great cup cakes too.
