I would much rather do volunteer work, if I didn't have
to work. There are so many places that need volunteers!
I always volunteer to work holidays (sm)
at DeVenture, just because I don't have a family and know that if I volunteer to help provide coverage, it may ease up the burdon on someone else who does.
Gosh, that does sound awful nice of me, but I really do it for the money. 
I honestly don't know if DeVenture REQUIRES it for acute-care level MTs or not though. Personally, nothing has ever been demanded of me yet, always asked nicely, and it's one of the reasons I'll always brag about this company and it's people. I just know they are both paid holidays and if you work them you get an hourly rate (which is an average of like 6 weeks of your personal line counts, so it's not an across-the-board rate which is kinda cool) in addition to whatever lines you make for that shift.
You volunteer to work the weekend (sm)
after having 40 hours, and only get the extra lines you type. I have never been offered incentive, OT, etc. However, I've been with company who ran out of work all the time, so, having the extra lines over the weekend helps my bottom line a lot. No complaint here. (It would be nice to have incentives over 1200 lines per day required, maybe they'll do that sometime.) My experience has been wonderful with them!
Are you allowed to volunteer for accounts?
If you can see the whole backlog, then can you volunteer to work on one that is obviously backlogged? Do the managers decide this or can you make a request to someone else?

I just got an offer from a company called MRC. Has anyone ever heard of them? I need some feed back. I am currently working with Spheris, but unhappy with my current schedule which conflicts with my school schedule. Has anyone ever worked for OSI Transcription? If so, are they decent? I just did the online transcription test and am awaiting their answer. I would hate to give up my local jobs for this one and find out they are not a decent company.

I've only been with them a few weeks, but so far, its been okay. Have had some minor issues regarding equipment and work, but these were resolved to my satisfaction by my manager. First pay was on time without any problems. If things continue as they are, I will probably be with them for a long while.
