Bad doesn't even begin to describe it!

Posted By: turned off on 2005-11-24
In Reply to: They're making themselves look bad. - There's another one on the main board!!!

I'm all for giving anybody the benefit of the doubt, but if this is actually OSi doing this, they're stooping to the pits of desperation and I don't know who they think would ever trust them after such cheap tactics.

This company advertises ALL the time and it isn't because they are getting new accounts.

Pay for what you describe should be more like
    nm
What you describe happened to me, too.
    Oh, wait. They already did.
Everything you describe in your first paragraph
is exactly what Im dealing with right now. I got put to a lower tier, cpl was cut by almost 2 cents. They gave me the act. from Hades, too. (i hope I am NEVER a patient at that miserable hospital!) My former M-F 8-hr days have turned into M-Sat or Sun 12 hour days. The platform has been as slow as molasses all summer. All I ever do any more is work. Yet as of tonight, the day after payday, my fridge is EMPTY, and so is my bank account. It all went to pay bills, and there still wasn't enough left over for my meds, still languishing on a shelf somewhere at the pharmacy in town.

The only bright part of my day today was reading your description of the 'Rectangle of Revulsion'. It's true, and disgusting, but still the description had me LOL.
I would work 2 jobs, but the job you describe above would not be one of them!
I don't believe I would do the job you described at all...first, second, or third!
What you describe here fits my situation to a T
I am resting this afternoon from the stress, and want to see what kind of work I can get at my regular IC job. Maybe that is where I need to stay. It is more flexible too. In my whole career at my original job they never were like that with me, I was never made to feel paranoid about bad worktypes or cherry picking. We just kept running out of work around the holidays. DH and I talked about it and maybe I need to try harder at the IC and maybe pick up something along side it. Just a couple of weeks on this other and the migraines have started and so have the worries.
    Yep..one word to describe Superior
Flaky. I was told they liked my resume and was exactly what they were looking for and immediately asked to complete their testing as they were filling the position right away. I took the time and did the test and then NOTHING. Not a word. I repeatedly left messages and emails asking what happened and no one had the common courtesy to contact me back. I found that rude and unprofessional and would never apply with them again.
Personally, I would relocate for the type of job you describe sm

especially under the terms and conditions you descsribed, i.e. relocation fees paid, paid by the line (although of course it would depend upon the line rate), great benefits, at-home option -- what's not to like?  I have no ties at my current location, and, in fact, have been thinking of moving somewhere new, just a fresh start in a new location -- sounds kind of exciting to me.  I even thought about Alaska.  I recently saw an ad by a hospital that was offering a $5000 sign-on bonus!  However, as beautiful as it is, with the long days/nights, I do not think I am cut out for living in Alaska. ... sigh.    The only drawback, I suppose, would be factoring in the difference in the cost of living.  Right now, I am in the midwest and the cost of living is pretty low compared to the east.  Still ........... I would love to hear more about the position if you decide to import someone.

I have been doing medical transcription for about 30 years now, and have been working at home for the last 5-6 years.  Something new is always welcome.

    Good luck in your quest!

I would respectfully use the words "force" or cause to describe....sm
what happens to some (far from all) MTs. I can speak from some experince after more than 16 years. My first job as MT (I was a certified administrative medical assistant and surgical tech before that) was for a new husband-wife team. They were kind, positive, complimentary, approachable....but pay was low. I was promised, continuously, that I would be receiving raises, and although my productivity was superior and work was always well with TAT (and always available for STATS, correspondence, and overtime), I was constantly put off and having to beg; stayed there 2 years. At another point, I was promised to be able to return after maternity leave, but alas, several accounts had left and I was advised to sit tight. The utility companies were not happy with that answer, not the bank with our mortgage. At another point, I had a wonderful hospital job, high pay, great bennies, when the board elected a new chief officer and all transcription except for some of the pathology and most radiology was outsourced. Another company, two years down the road, great pay, very happy, worked tons of overtime, always there, and they sold out to a huge conglomerate and only told the MTs when it was a done deal. A great national, down the road, hired to have one primary, perhaps one or two secondary accounts...one year later, I am transcribing for SIX different hospital accounts and was so looking up doctor lists and all kinds of hospital account information that I had to work 12 hours (with two toddlers at home) to make about 5 hours of pay, and I was eating and practically sleeping at my computer. And I know, from keeping in touch with MTs over the years from all states, all differing situations, that many honest, hard-working, intelligent MTs are getting much the same treatment and MORE. (I only gave some of my highlights here). Yes, I have been very happy at times, but it never seemed to last, and I never intentionally hopped. Most MTs hate it, the test taking, the interviews, the phone calls, the e-mails, the searching, the worries...I think intentional job hoppers are probably in the minority, but that is just my opinion. I love this field, but I have come close to leaving it so very many times and using other parts of my college education and training....call me a sucker for punishment, I just enjoy the learning, the challange, and the fascination of medical science from all perspectives. Please, give MTs some of their dignity back, how many other fields have gone 15 years with hardly a 2 cent per line change, while continuously upgrading references, equipment, ISPs, continuing education, etc??? Only my opinion.
I didn't hear you describe being treated

like dirt.  If there are other things she did that were horrible, feel free to share.  You agreed to 6 cpl and meeting the courier.  If you are the employee with the least seniority and perhaps the least experience, it makes sense that you would get the most inconvenient work setup.  It's called paying your dues.  No need to call a successful businesswoman greeeeeeeeedy.

So what did she do that was so awful?

LOL .. those 3 words would describe my ex's IQ, bank account and ... uh .. LOL

Does this guy's first name begin with a J?
If so, I know exactly what you are going through. Good luck!!!!!!!!!
    don't know where to begin..

This all makes me so sad.  I first stumbled across this site about a month ago, saw the Word Help thread and thought this was such a fabulous place, transcriptionists helping other transcriptionists.  I've done this job for almost 29 years now, presently working part-time as casual staff at a local hospital and an IC for the most part from home.  I have to say I love, love, love my job as a medical Transcriptionist - making sense out of nonsense, deciphering difficult dictators, playing detective searching for words.  But since I have been coming here, I have just found this all so depressing.  So I will continue to love what I do, but I won't be back here.  To those who are fighting for our jobs and for respect we deserve, please continue, I wish you all the best.

Yes that was the question to begin with!
I was scheduled a time with the recruiter and the recruiter failed to follow through. That was the whole point of my post, why did the recruiter not call and was this they way they handled everything. I wasn't whining because I didn't hear back from them. That would have been fine not to hear from them, but I was responded to and asked to schedule a time to talk as they wanted to offer me a position.
And I would suggest we begin by having a SM
better education system. The school systems have gone downhill and other countries are ahead of us in math and science.
Does it begin with the letter
    nm
I know. You begin to question everything (sm)
That to me is why using the personal normals is so important. When you have a similar procedure/ROS/PE/etc., right there in your report to compare as you transcribe, the dictation suddenly becomes more clear. That can be a real confidence booster. There are some very excellent MTs who have been gracious enough to share, so I say use them. :)
    Who could begin to guess?
Spheris has production incentives but I couldn't even guess what rates a new employee might be offered. All I've heard is that it is lower now than it used to be.
    Let the flaming begin....
I also have had nothing but a good experience with TT after almost 2 years. I have very, very rarely run out of work, and at most for an hour or so. The people in the office have been nothing but kind to me. I was not thrilled with VR, and stated that fact here. I also came back and stated that I was wrong, it just took some getting used to, and now I am back to my normal paycheck (it only took about 3 weeks or so). I realized at the time that you can keep trying to run from VR, but eventually it will catch up to you. I felt bad about what GP and others said they were experiencing with TT, but has not been my experience at all. I would still recommend them to anyone. The business has changed drastically, but for now I have a home, and I too will defend them. I am not saying others haven't had a different experience, just that mine has been pretty much all good.
To begin with, we can get the word out, beyond
After all, THEY are a major player in all the greed that has taken over medical transcription. The American public has quite a few bones to pick with healthcare, already. Might as well add our situation to the fracas, as well.
Does anyone know if we can begin 401K any time?

Or is it one of those things that have to be done in January and if you miss it, you wait another year...

Thanks.  Have a call in and am waiting for their return phone call.

does this company begin with the letter O?
curious if it does. Sounds almost similar to an experience last year although never made it past the phone calls but made it seem like oh yeah, we have room to hire, and then never heard anything. She said she was working on finding me an account.  yeah right.
I work for a company that does not begin with F
that is losing an account in about a month, and I have already started training on my secondary. It is a great company and I wouldn't dream of leaving it. It is highly regarded by everyone. Contact your supervisor. I would look at the boards here for info on your company and if most is good stick with it. If not, look elsewhere. Good luck.
Do their last names begin with P and M. I think they should throw them out before everyone quits.
    :
The letter about the pay cut in ASR was mailed out and is to begin October 1. No question about it.
    Didnt you get the letter.
MQ a good place to begin an MT career? I disagree.

I was relatively new to the MT world when I began working at MQ.  I recall it as an experience that almost caused me to totally QUIT the MT profession.  For one thing, the majority of dictators were horrendous.  Add to that the fact that communication with supervisors, QA, etc., was almost nil.  Then, I learned about the MT questions person, but I quickly became embarrassed and was afraid that he/she would get tired of me.  Working at MQ was definitely a learning experience, but it is my opinion that it harmed me more than helping me.  For one thing, I do not enjoy the experience of hypertension and migraine headaches, and I am sure that I would not enjoy the experience of a CVA.  Obviously, I do not work for MQ any longer.

As it has already happened twice, I won't be surprised if I again receive a telephone call in which I am invited to reapply and work there again.  The first time that they called, I told them to take my name off their list, or put my name on their DO NOT CALL list.  But, they might call again.  For this reason, I have placed my old trumpet next to the phone.  A good blow of the trumpet in the caller's ear will be the only response they get from me.  I understand that pushing the O button on a touch-tone phone will create a similar effect.

Can a Diskriter MT tell me when health benefits begin (90 days, 1st full month)?

Jewish high holy days begin at sundown tonight.

Doesn't apply if your OSI account doesn't use Ichart.
It is the Ichart only for OSi where you are cheated.
TT doesn't pay for spaces or ExText doesn't

    That doesn't fly - KS doesn't offshore

He doesn't trust VR, or doesn't trust his MT to train it correctly?
Or perhaps his MT(s) has/have been filling his head with horror stories about VR and how it is a lawsuit waiting to happen?

Personally, I don't see any reason an M.D. would not trust a VR program, unless he's seen the products of a report edited by a less than competent MT who didn't do their editing job appropriately.

okay, that doesn't really help. I really need to know
the major city that is near you, how far away it is, and also put the next major city to you. For instance, if you live in kissmee, florida, you would put Orlando about 30 minutes away and Tampa about 45 minutes to one hour away.
    TH doesn't. nm

It doesn't mean anything now though.
I don't care if I got anything, but if it didn't come until all the posts about not getting even a card, it just doesn't mean anything.
    for CMT...CMT really doesn't mean....sm
a heck of a lot, as I know plenty of CMTs who make errors (just like any MT who sometimes does), errors like  typing Port-A-Cath as Porta-Cath.  For decades, *CMT* yielded NOTHING extra $$-wise.  Today that is changing a tad.
It doesn't get better than this! NM

It doesn't seem so to me. SM
I was told that my account would be 50-60% ESL, but I don't find them too difficult. As well, there are lots of normals to look back on for help if needed.
    It doesn't take me any
extra time. I just write down the job numbers while they are downloading. If I was having to actually take time out of work, I don't know that I would do it!
It may well be, but it sure doesn't sit well.

Doesn't matter to me either way, I'm not staying.

    MQ doesn't either.

Maybe she doesn't have the exp in ...sm
the area they are advertising on the job boards. Maybe she doesn't have the years of exp they want. There could be many reasons why she hasn't obtained another job. Maybe she wanted to give this one a fair chance. Who knows?
doesn't have anything to do with that..
how many companies state a minimum and overhire so you end up not making your lines? It does not mean Synernet does not do the same thing. Have you worked for them? Do you know this for sure?
    This doesn't add up...
I read the article.  It states, We have 1,000 domestic transcribers and 600 in India.  Now, why do they need 600 transcriptionists in India if only 15% of the work is being sent to India?  So, it takes 600 Indian MTs to complete 15% of Transcend's work and 1,000 American MTs to complete 85%.  Either the Indian MTs are very, very slow (and how is that cost effective and how does that affect turnaround time and quality) or they are sending more than 15% of the work to India.  Take your pick .
That says a lot about you then, doesn't it.
Why on earth would you find entertainment in MTs taking a pay cut to do VR and being low on work, etc. Sigh.
From the looks of that ad, it doesn't appear that
    N/M
I believe and to anyone who doesn't sm

she tells the truth here.  It's so sad that they are doing this to us.  Those who stay will probably be people who are the 2nd income in the home, not the main breadwinner.

You mean she doesn't post her name (nm)
    x
That doesn't mean it was sold...
there are many reasons why the accounts/offices are going through closure/moving.

If contracts are not renewed, then not only will the account be finished but if that is a significant percentage of work for that office MQ may choose to merge that office with another for cost savings.

All I know to believe is what they have told me.
Well that doesn't say much about the company
You've been there 4 months and have 5 accounts already?????  That tells people that they run out of work consistently otherwise you would be working on 1 account and have a backup, maybe 2.  I've been there years and didn't even get my secondary account for almost 6 months because the work was so heavy on my primary account.  Things have changed.  The turnaround is so great they have to continually overhire.  The only thing I have to say is think about why you were hired at 10 cpl.  You're training the VR that is going to be cutting that 10 cpl to 5.5 cpl. If you're happy earning 5.5 cpl doing FULL editing that's great.  Maybe you weren't there when the CEO was saying that the people who do really well on editing are not high producers in typing and vice versa.  Those who have a hard time doubling their lines in editing are the ones producing 350-400 lines an hour in typing. There's no way they can make 700 lines per hour doing FULL editing.  So if you're doing great in editing, you're not that great in typing...you're average.  If you're a high producer in typing, let's see how happy you'll be when making 5.5 cpl for producing the same amount of work.
