You work when you want during the week. They ask you to commit to one weekend day.

Furthermore, I was on only one account, and worked that same account every day. The work was plentiful. Since I wasn't hopping around on various accounts, I customized everything and made a zillion macros. It was very good for money.

It was the best job I ever worked. I had to leave because I needed benefits.

No. You shouldn't give up your hospital job (sm)
because a few people are rude. BUT, there is a big difference between someone who is just rude and one who is verbally abusive.

Although I work from home, I still come in contact with people who are rude. That's just a fact of life and is never going to go away. However, I refuse to surround myself or associate with people who are verbally abusive.
Most companies require a certain quota be met
Even as an IC I committed myself to 180 reports a day. I do anywhere from 180-225. I did not sign a contract but did commit to it.

EFD in Texas, New England Medical Transcription (NEMT) and a company called On-Call, although neither of these companies have had ads posted recently.  Hope this helps. 


Also, have you ever thought about working for a temp service.  They usually pay weekly.  I don't know where you are located and how many temporary services are in your area, but I think this would be worth a try, considering your circumstance.

Companies that pay weekly or every other week
Anyone have a list of decent companies that pay weekly or at least every other week? TIA.
My take on weekly paying companies...sm
I have worked for a few weekly paying companies. the dictation was either horrible or they had horrible complicated formatting rules/issues. They seem to want you to jump through hoops for that weekly pay. But that is MY opinion only.

There is one on one of the job boards that pays weekly.
I can't speak for all companies but sm
for companies for whom I have worked, the inability to carry over hours is to encourage workers to buy back their time off instead of taking it, because many, like you, find themselves at the end of the year with PTO and the inability or unwillingness to take it. They would rather pay the extra than to have a reduction in manpower. Not all companies are like that but being a former supervisor, that is the modus operandi for assurance of a full workforce.
I agree - speak up. Most companies / supervisors want to hear sm
what their MTs want, to make them happy - or at least mine does!
Why don't these companies give us
all of the information right up front? Even if they can't give the exact pay, at least a range, along with the benefits. We wouldn't have to go through applying and testing over and over, and they wouldn't receive hundreds of resumes to go through for each job. It would save us all, the companies and the transcriptionists, a lot of
aggravation! Maybe I'm missing something, but it makes sense to me.

You have been around and tried many - you should have some names to give yourself.

Can you give me the name of companies who are flexible in regards to
once you are done with your required lines or your own personal goal, but is less than 8 hours, allow you to stop at that point.  Hope that makes sense.  Say I can do 1500 lines in 6 hours, are there any companies who will allow me to quit once I get my 1500 lines?  If so, would you share the names please?

Not in this economy. Just give thanks you have a job.

expect you to keep up with the cost of living?  I've been at my company for 2 years and was shot down for a raise.  I know others have been at their companies much long with no raises.  If I worked at a hospital or clinic, I would have gotten a raise by now.  Just something to show the appreciate me would be nice!  Are all companies this greedy?

My birthday is right around the corner and I would love to know how many companies out there take the time out to remember our birthdays.  I understand that these companies might have many, many employess or ICs, but we are not just a number...or are we? Just curious to find out the good companies out there...
This attitude is the reason that many companies give nothing at all. sm
I worked for a company that gave a small bonus about 5 years ago. So many MTs complained about the size that the owner decided to never do anything again. I know of a few other owners that feel the same way.

I only have 10 employees, but I cannot afford a large bonus, so I am not giving anything at all. Believe it or not, most MTSOs do not make millions, live in mansions and eat bon-bons while their employees do all the work. There are times that my employees make more than I do. Not whining. Just stating facts.
Question: Are there any companies left out there that send give X-mas
presents?  I sent my MTSO a christmas card last year and got a big fat nothing in return.  Is it too much to expect a little something for the holidays, even if it's just a card?
Does anyone find it interesting how companies want ICs and then give you the schedule you are to
work.  I thought by law you are not allowed to set a schedule for an IC.  Seems to me they are getting the best of both worlds for a whole lot less because of benefits they are getting out of paying and all the things the government requires.

QA quota
When I worked at Amphion, we were expected to do 100 reports per 8-hour shift. Most often I did at least 80 which could be a stretch depending on what else was going on so I understand your concern.
DSG - QA, line quota, how they pay Qs

Questions for DSG QA folks.  Do they pay per hour or by line?  I heard someone say by the line, but then someone else say they had to give feedback.  I have never worked for someplace that paid you by the line AND expected you to give feedback also.   If it is by the line, do they have a daily quota?

Has anybody out there ever used all accessible shortcuts, typed steadily, and seen after a grueling 8, 9, 10 hours lines equalling approx 77 per hour?    I refuse to think myself as doing something wrong:  Just want to hear from ANYBODY who has done what s/he can, yet finds him/herself always unable to meet productivity.  I am at a crossroads right now so it is a good time to leave transcription, but I cannot believe my forays into at-home land yield the same results:  exhaustion, impossible quotas, and the sneaking suspicion that the nearly-industry-wide policy of not paying for headers is cruel, immoral, and unethical--CONSIDERABLE quality time is spent on getting this info right, and what automatically populates must often be, umm, massaged by our exhausted fingers.  I would love to hear any comments from anybody about how they met productivity.  I would need to increase by almost 100% in order to barely tread water:  I cannot do it.  Just wondering how all you VERY hard-working people survive.  Wish there were an emoticon for throwing in the towel.

I can't make mine, either. A 15-16 minute dication will only yield me about 100 lines. I'm fed up, but scared to death to leave this field and embark on a new career at my age.
