Does anyone find it interesting how companies want ICs and then give you the schedule you are to

work.  I thought by law you are not allowed to set a schedule for an IC.  Seems to me they are getting the best of both worlds for a whole lot less because of benefits they are getting out of paying and all the things the government requires.

They want you to keep your schedule for TAT purposes but will work with you to find a good schedule
I love working there.
I find that interesting as the CEO
of Transtech headed up an OTC (Overshore Transcription Company) for years. Better hold on tight to your jobs!
Find it interesting that.....
so many MTs have left this company for a lot of the same reasons, but they keep loosing MTs and never seem to be hiring on the job board for the MANY MTs they have lost.  Strange.....wonder who is typing all the work for them?  Must be sending it somewhere in my eyes.  Just my thoughts.
I find it interesting...

We are isolated and I find it interesting the threads where people go back and forth.  If you really do not like it here, I'd suggest staying away.

This is a board for venting, sharing experiences with companies, and also sharing life experiences.

It's not such a bad place.  If you like mushy mushy lovey lovey try the other boards.  What you'll find there though is people not responding at all which tells me that no one has anything nice to say.

I do not frequent the other boards because they are boring. This board has action and truth.

Take it with a grain of salt or move on...  CHEERS!

What I find interesting is....
You received an email regarding your resignation and wishing you good luck in your endeavors.

Well, normally when someone reads an email and wishes to respond, they just use the 'reply' option.

Obviously using the 'reply' option on that email would not have worked, because it was to a bogus email address designed to look like yours.

Sounds like somehow the boss knew to create a new email document acknowledging that bogus resignation, because would have never received that 'resignation' acknowledgement email had she just replied to the original email.

I'd get an attorney. I believe you have them by the gonads.
I find this very interesting...

If you go to this site (ftp://ftp.klasresearch.com/klasrpt_MTSO_2007.pdf) and look on page 290 (Win/Loss) you will find the quotes below.

Two questions come to mind:  (1) Was this not exactly what the fuss was all about and (2) is this the same Transtech?

We really didn't get to make a selection.  Dictaphone offered either Transtech or an MTSO that did work offshore; the second choice wasn't an option on our end.

We did not select TransTech.  We went with Dictaphone.  We had selected another vendor and shortly after going live it was no longer in use.  Dictaphone assigned us to TransTech.

We selected TransTech because they are contracted by Dictaphone.

If you give them a set schedule,
then you are now an employee, not an IC.
No, you need to give a schedule
They are flexible though. No I don't want to spend my life looking at the computer screen, but find me a company that never runs out of work. I appreciate the fact that I can go back in later to get more lines...it works for me, but maybe not for others.
Also if you did not give a serious schedule when it was due
The place is a wonderful place to work, but you are expected to take your job very seriously. Not playtime. Jobtime.
and will the give us a schedule ? sm
according to the community page recording, for those NOT on Chart Matrix side, the rate will change as you are rolled over to this new wonderful save-the-world-you-are-still-giving-us-the-same-document-we-just-pay-you-a-heck-of-a-lot-less program.  So, are they going to share the schedule with us so we can break it to our budget (or find a new job!?)   Sure would be nice, but not holding my breath.
I find this interesting. I am getting ready to be in the same position. sm
I have only worked from home as an IC but have recently accepted a position, because of health insurance and benefits, as an employee. My thoughts are running scared because I, too, am afraid of the set schedule that I must work. But working as an employee is supposed to be giving me assurity of steady workflow which my old company almost took me to the poor house! I am like you, would give it a month and then compare. Then be tempted to stay with my old job because of it was like a good worn shoe to me. But I liked what the other poster said about give it 3-6 months. Makes sense. And maybe I won't be so hasty.

I hope you make it with the employee position because, even though I don't personally know your circumstance, I know that employee with benefits is much, much more beneficial than just an IC. Good luck!!!!
No, if they give YOU a set schedule you are an employee. sm
It would be the same as if I ran a retail store and hung my hours on the door so my clients would know when I am open and available. The same goes for MT work. All the company is asking is when is your sign open amd when are you closed. Now asking you to commit weekends is YOUR choice and you can obviously say no, but prepared for them to shop somewhere else if you are not convenient for them.
When you are hired you have to give them a schedule
Say you want to start at 8:00 a.m., then you have until 8:00 p.m. to get your lines in.   35 hours is considered FT, so you basically have 5 hours of play time in there.  You do have to clock in and out.
Hmmm but interesting....will the attorney actually be able to find out WHO is posting?
I thought this board was secure and identities were not revealed????
Here's a Link to an Indian MTSO that you might find interesting
http://mtherald.com/medical-transcription-companies-in-india-a-detailed-list/
I think we must work for the same company. I find it always interesting how they say how great
the workload looks and people are really working hard when the fact is they have overhired and that is why there is no work. Must be DSG right. They are hiring right now.  Cant imagine what they are hiring for.  Hopefully not the acounts that are already out of work all the time. I wonder what kind of turnover rate they have there.
Be prepared to give a schedule and stick to it.
In my personal experirence, I was titled IC but let me tell you, if I was not signed on DURING THE SET HOURS I WAS ASKED TO PROVIDE, EMAILS AND CALLS ENSUED.

IC? Not so much. More like employee without employees, IMO.
Do tell. I find it interesting in what some people like and dislike in a company. Could you share
more about your experience...
Dont you find it interesting that MQ went right on advertising for statutory employees and hiring SE
people certainly having known for a long time that this was coming. I guess they figure a lot of people would not feel like switching companies so they screwed them also now they either become an employee or look again.
I find it interesting that this owner is constantly exposed as a slow to nonpayer with previous
bankruptcy issues and people still go to work for her.. Things that make you go hmmmm. I mean if this were a single incident with a disgruntled worker I could understand, but when GROVES of people complain, she is still able to recruit people. I do not get that. I personally turned her out because the pay was too low for me, but apparently for some, ANY payment on time or at all would be acceptable. People need to take a stand and quit. When she is unable to fulfill her obligations as she leaves her employees struggling to do, maybe she'd get her stuff together.
Yes, pay on time. We give a 2-week schedule. Accounts pretty good

As an IC you set your schedule. Most companies
want a line commitment, either per pay period or per month.  With IC you don't get any benefits, no insurance, vacation, and you pay all your own taxes.  As an employee you get benefits, they pay taxes, but they also dictate the hours you work and there may or may not be much flexibility in those hours.  A lot of companies that only hire IC want to tell you the hours to work because they need to be sure they have coverage to keep in TAT.
which companies that don't require a set schedule? nm
nm
Are there any companies out there who let you get away without working your schedule?

I'm looking for a second job.    I could use some more $$$, but I think I would prefer to work for one that's laid-back.  I heard of one once but have no idea what its name was.

What companies don't make you follow exact schedule?

Looking for a company that allows some flexibility on what time I type each day instead of a strict schedule that I set up.  This is just to deal with occasional appointments or if the kids have a class play I want to see, etc.  Most days a schedule would be fine but I also don't want to be stuck with it!

The company I used to be with was like this but they now require schedules to be followed. I see the point in that but I also know that some exist with more flexibiity!

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Companies with flexible 12-hour window schedule
What companies offer a flexible schedule where your work can be completed within a 12-hour window?
Loyalty to Companies Who Have No Work and Expect a Schedule from YOU

There have been many discussions about MT's sitting around waiting for work to file into their queues.. many being told to get more than a few accounts and work on their backups (which, we all know, is someone's primary account)  when their primary is out of work.. so we go 'round in circles.

Then we have discussions about companies putting us in work pools as opposed to assigning us work daily...

I have been sitting here thinking, if I were a painter, wanted to paint fences, and I showed up with my brush and paint bright and early in the morning, and was told to come back tomorrow, the fence has already been painted, but there will be another fence ready to paint tomorrow, please come back, we want you to paint our fences.. I say, OK, I understand, and so I come back tomorrow and when I get there I see that half of the fence has been painted already, someone came before me and painted it, even though I was promised the work of painting the fence.  They say, try again tomorrow.  How many days would you show up to paint a fence? Every day? Don't you (eventually) feel like an idiot standing there with your brush and paint with nothing to do??

Does the company owe you any loyalty at all??  If they don't want your services, why don't they just say so instead of keeping you coming back ready to paint every day?  Then when it DOES get busy, they call and say WHERE IS EVERYBODY??? DONT YOU CARE ABOUT PAINTING THE FENCE?  Like we havent been standing there with our brushes all week waiting to paint.

What I don't understand is the lack of shame from the people who behave this way.   Once in a while things happen..NOT AS A MATTER OF BUSINESS.

I really don't understand the logic of the people who have no problem with this.  You do understand that by doing this, you are simply helping these companies to continue in this fashion, not feeling that they owe you ANYTHING.

Overhiring is really the finaly insult.  If you don't see that.. you are closing your eyes.

C'mon, give us a clue. Where is this, how did you find it, IC or employee? nm

Give TT some time to see if they can find cheaper plans

I also am greatly upset by the insurance hike, but I have decided to give them some time to see if they can come up with something more affordable.  Like many of you, I have to insure my whole family, so this increase is astronomical.

The grass is not always greener.  Changing jobs means switching out problems, and yes, some problems are easier to deal with than others.  My last job (Amphion), I was so stressed out, I lost a lot of quality of life.  I have young children.  I can't afford to be a stressed out freak just like I can't afford the expensive health insurance.  When I moved to TT, I regained my quality of life.  I'm not so tired anymore, and I'm able to be a better mom.  That means the world to me.  I'll hang in patiently to see if another option can be found for the health insurance.

10 pages, bull, they want it for free, give them one page or find another job.
.
Slow, does not give line counts, if you accidently send on before done, have to find TL to
:}
Why don't these companies give us
all of the information right up front? Even if they can't give the exact pay, at least a range, along with the benefits. We wouldn't have to go through applying and testing over and over, and they wouldn't receive hundreds of resumes to go through for each job. It would save us all, the companies and the transcriptionists, a lot of
aggravation! Maybe I'm missing something, but it makes sense to me.
What companies out there give you (sm)

assigned work, as in a handful of dictators.  I am looking to pick up some clinic work without large armies of dictators to get used to!
Thanks!

Were you able to find companies that sm
support satellite? I am so stuck with it and no one wants you if that is all you have.
Can't you give her any names for companies? sm
You have been around and tried many - you should have some names to give yourself.

Can you give me the name of companies who are flexible in regards to
once you are done with your required lines or your own personal goal, but is less than 8 hours, allow you to stop at that point.  Hope that makes sense.  Say I can do 1500 lines in 6 hours, are there any companies who will allow me to quit once I get my 1500 lines?  If so, would you share the names please?
when referring to Bad Companies, give the name.

Do companies give raises?
Not in this economy. Just give thanks you have a job.
If MT companies do not give out raises, how do they sm
expect you to keep up with the cost of living?  I've been at my company for 2 years and was shot down for a raise.  I know others have been at their companies much long with no raises.  If I worked at a hospital or clinic, I would have gotten a raise by now.  Just something to show the appreciate me would be nice!  Are all companies this greedy?

Many companies other than "A" give computer

you can give the names of the 2 companies here.

I am not with KS but find the same thing at many companies. sm
I think it is just a part of transcription that not all platforms are transcription-friendly.
Can't find. Must be talking about different companies.
nm
I think you will find that not many companies pay training. sm
I have only been on one or two that do in the last 8 years. Most pay production from the beginning. I could be wrong, but I think this is the norm. Good luck.
Can you give me the names of the companies here that were not honest?

Any companies out there give birthday bonuses or anything? sm
My birthday is right around the corner and I would love to know how many companies out there take the time out to remember our birthdays.  I understand that these companies might have many, many employess or ICs, but we are not just a number...or are we? Just curious to find out the good companies out there...
This attitude is the reason that many companies give nothing at all. sm
I worked for a company that gave a small bonus about 5 years ago. So many MTs complained about the size that the owner decided to never do anything again. I know of a few other owners that feel the same way.

I only have 10 employees, but I cannot afford a large bonus, so I am not giving anything at all. Believe it or not, most MTSOs do not make millions, live in mansions and eat bon-bons while their employees do all the work. There are times that my employees make more than I do. Not whining. Just stating facts.
Is there an easier way to find out if companies offshore?
I have worked for 3 companies that all offshored and were absolutely not forthcoming about it upfront. I never want to work for one again. Is there a list somewhere or am I banging my head on the wall. Again.
All the companies are having the same problem. Time to find another
nm
Question: Are there any companies left out there that send give X-mas
presents?  I sent my MTSO a christmas card last year and got a big fat nothing in return.  Is it too much to expect a little something for the holidays, even if it's just a card?
