part time and full time employees if it was a fairly flexible schedule, of course, never like IC and SE.

I hate to say it, but ESLs are here to stay and being able to transcribe accounts...sm
that are heavy ESL is a necessary skill.  Especially in acute care.
Agree..with IC status, equip. is your responsibility; employee status - you should SM
not have to pay out-of-pocket for use of their equipment. I would never work employee status for a company who required me to purchase or lease their equipment. The only thing I would find acceptable is to have a small security deposit taken out of paycheck when starting with a company. This will protect the company from those few who might abuse the equipment.
Anyone know of Escription companies that offer IC status. I do not want employee status but would
like to stick with the Escription platform at all possible.
Employee status w/benefits vs IC status??? Dilemna enclosed

I am caught between a rock and a hard place and figure this is the place to get the best advice from those in the know.  I have been an IC for the past 5 years and love the flexibility but was interested in a job with benefits.  I started a new job about a month ago with good pay (2 lph more than I was making) and benefits......very happy with company but as an employee, obviously have a schedule.  I am working both jobs currently and starting to burn out.  On the new job, I am struggling to get the 1200 lines per day required but on my old.... I can easily get 150-400 lph depending on the dictator but again, it is IC and less lph than the new job.  Obviously, the platform is different and not paid for template headers/footers wheras the old one, I am paid for those.  Now to my question.  Is it just me?  Is it because I really enjoyed the freedom of ic status and therfore seem to be struggling?   Anyone else experienced this before?  Tempted to go back told job and lose benefits/more pay because in the end, maybe it works out be the same pay because of amount of time I spend getting the job done?   Not sure if this makes sense but hoping you can all offer some advice!!  TIA

I can't afford to stay with VR. If they paid more, I'd stay.
The situation sucks. I really liked this company when I started there. I know they read these forums, and they are aware that we are unhappy over VR line rates. They stroke us with cute emails and say we're the best, but I can't feed my family on praise. They're turning into another MedQuist, and so I'll be leaving.
Drop it already! ENOUGH! DONE! OVER! nm
NM
Is there a reason you cannot let this drop?
We are all tired of all the nonsense, but seems to me you are tyring to continue it!
Drop Hyphen
Thanks for setting me straight and thanks for your time in answering.

I think you can drag and drop it.
Isn't that working for you?
Did they also drop the rate?
If this is the case, then this is why.  If not, and it is as you say, I would start sending out resumes and don't leave until you have another jobtained and even work both for a time if you can, to see if you like the place.  Some management style is punishing, they feel this is the way to do it WHERE it should be the opposite, people will work their guts out if they just be nice and fair.  Start looking for a better place. Their loss.
I had to drop my coverage -
I could not afford to pay the premiums as I had no work. I was basically working just to pay that.

Also, since they paid on a tier plan, I went from making over 11 cpl to making 6 CPL at the same time. That is why they do not mind overhiring - they get the same work done for much less money, so that means more money in their pockets.
You do realize what MQ is doing right now is exactly what Spheris does. I still think they may drop
SE but hope not but Spheris does not have IC or SE so if there is a plan in the works MQ may just have employees.
Hope that stays the same because it is apt to drop
as mine did. Lot of us outsourced from a major hospital and went from salary and incentive to less than 4 months later VR at 4 cents a line, still make that but on straight it is 8 (over 30 years experience) but I average about $18.75 an hour and that is because of my speed only. When pay and incentive though over 40 thou a year so quite a drop.
So, if your the lucky soul who gets 7.4 cpl and you drop below 98.9%, then you'd get 6.4 cpl..wow

You can drag and drop, but under the more button you
have to check the box that says remember player position. HTH.
Don't people who obtain the CMT normally drop the RMT sm
from the end of their name?
Comm Pg; request Help; use the drop-down box. nm

Just wondering - why would an MTSO drop

Not disputing you or anything, I just wondered why they would do that.  It seems it is dog-eat-dog in the MTSO industry and I can't understand why they would practically give an account to a competitor.

Just wondering, not disputing here.

I believe there is a Drop Chute program but
I don't know anything about it.
Yes. I bought a policy when I knew I would drop below
production levels.  It has a higher deductible than my MQ insurance but it was the almost the exact same cost.  I will never tie my health insurance to an MT job again.  Too risky.
Thank you for posting. I've been waiting for the axe to drop
because I can't get up to speed. I was expecting to be able to do 250-300 lph there because I heard how great their platform was. I do love so many things about them compared to other places I've worked.
While the acct does make a difference, the drop in pay
will make it difficult for anyone who has been a speedy MT to make nearly the same amount of mone. It appears to me that their goal is to put all employees in the $30-35K per year range. That's not good enough for me.

I should have listened to the warnings last year on this board last year, but that's okay - I've learned my lesson and will be starting next week with someone else who give me a CHOICE as to whether I edit or not.
I would call or drop an email inquiring.

Agree Completely. Will Clients Drop Us?
Those clients surely will drop the new entity first thing. Perhaps a new entity will evolve to cover those clients and will absorb those of us familiar with them?
Let's drop the subject. The issue has been addressed SM
by the company and resolved.
What scares me is a drop in pay beginning today.
Certainly, not the training; certainly not being out of comfort zone. In all my years as an MT I have gone through many changes. What I don't like is being put in a position where I put a question mark next to my check for the next rent, and for the future... That is what I am scared of...
Doesn't it make sense to be frightened of a sudden drop in pay when you have no other income to depend on? If I were salaried I certainly would not be afraid of anything... I would enjoy learning something new... but this is like no safety net.
Also, my car loan as well as my landlord expect me to have the same or better income on my paystub... what am I supposed to tell them about a drop immediately in the same job? They would certainly be afraid if they knew this were happening.
I didn't drop, the computer dropped a "k" but as a professional

Any Spheris employees notice a drop in PTO time? SM

Before we got 4 PTO hours a paycheck, now is seems to be 3.38. Has anyone else noticed this? Thanks.

You can make up your lines whenever you like. Just drop them and email letting them know that you ar

Must be your manager 'cause mine lets me off at the drop of a hat. sm
You should ask again, saying that you have extenuating circumstances. Offer to work extra during the pay period to make up any missing hours, if possible.

As for slowness, it is MUCH IMPROVED since earlier this year.
On the MT side? They start off attentive and then drop you real fast when you need them. nm
s
Pay will drop significantly with Dictaphone EXSpeech 1/2 per line, or something to that tune. nm

I've also worked there over 4 years and I have noticed the work drop
Whatever left is the crap. Also, check your line count some time. I swear that they have manipulated that also. I can now do over 2 pages and it comes up with like 50 lines. I used to be able to make a living there but can't anymore. I'll be quitting.
Bad things on the horizon. Wating for the other shoe to drop. A sham indeed,
Indeed. :(
Stay low and stay very, very quiet. Do not
ask questions, do not talk to the supervisors unless forced to. The answer will always be the same, that you are the only one who has an issue, everything else is perfect. Never mention anyone's name. This place has the mentality of the Borg, everyone has been assimilated, which means if your supervisor does not like you, or does not like your friend, you have no chance. You associate with so and so, so you are exactly like them. That quickly goes through the Borg network and every team lead, ROM, and person in management, including HR, is aware of it. You'll be labeled a trouble maker and your life will not be worth living. Any trial to clear your name will be done in the fashion of the trial of witches. You are in a dunking chair - if you drown you are innocent but it is too late by then.

Remember, a ROM never makes a mistake and never tells something that isn't true. They are perfect (and nastier than a pack of hiennas.)

If you run out of work, it is your fault. You are just lazy. Can't make enough to take care of your family? Too bad, you need to work harder.

And forget getting an answer from management. It doesn't
happen. So, as before, stay low and very quiet.

And do a good job? You can be assured that if you do a good job, do what you are supposed to do, and stay quiet, no one will even recognize your name. They have no idea where you work, what your schedule is, or that you even belong to Transcend.

Drop them an email. Mine was stolen. I received a nice empty envelope.

they don't pay their share of the premium in any pay period you drop below full-time line count..

I hate to say it, but MQ does. nm

come on now, don't hate

I hate to tell you this, but (sm)

I have over 35 years experience as an MT, and I have never done a resume in my life.  I'm afraid if I had to do one, it might not meet your rigid standards of professionalism.  I am an excellent MT, and you would be the one losing out.  BTW, this is absolutely true.  I have never needed a resume.  I have only had about 5 jobs in my entire career as an MT, and I know so many people in this profession that one has never been needed - so Heaven forbid, I would ever want to go to work for your company - and you would be the loser.

Well, there's nothing I hate more... sm
...than being at the bottom of someone's DO-DO list.

Thanks for the laugh in an otherwise testy thread, even if it was just a typo! ;-)
I hate to even ask but...
what exactly does it mean to be incorporated? I feel silly not knowing, but I'll never know if I don't ask, right?
Oh I hate that!
I used work for a company who made all of their MTs have Yahoo messenger open practically 24/7. If they didn't see you online, they would call you to find out why!!! They would constantly message me on my days off, or even when I set to appear offline! I would wake up in the morning and go to my computer to find tons of instant messages from like 4 in the morning! I am SO glad that the company I am with now doesn't do that! To me, if a company tells me that I have to give them my IM address, it would be a huge turnoff. It's kind of like a leash.
hate my job
I hate the last part-time job I took learning ESLs and working 1 to 8 p.m., but I must admit I have had work this summer when there were other people even with this company who didn't.  Just depends on what your pocketbook can weather.
Ugh, I hate it but I do what I have too...sm
I work EVERY Friday night and Saturday night. I absolutely HATE my schedule but my kids have to eat, right? Plus I worry sometimes that all they will remember of their childhood is me working at night, missing out on things and then napping or sleeping the rest of the time. The economy around here is AWFUL. I have been looking/interviewing for a job outside the home since two years ago. NOTHING.
I hate
That is, unfortunately, about the rate for VR. I worked at Lartech for about a year and it was 3 cpl. I started out doing VR and when I switched companies I started doing straight transcription. I went from struggling with VR editing to what would have equaled 700 transcribed lines per day (editing of 1400 basically) up to 1500+ lines a day not even working as much as I had at Lartech. VR totally brings your time down and they dont pay squat! I read somewhere that the companies got paid the SAME amount from the hospitals whether or not it was VR or straight transcription. I have a feeling companies are lining their pockets left and right because of VR.
I hate to say it, but this is well said.
nm
I really hate to say this, but

go to MedQuist.  You have to be able to pass the test but at least there you can gain experience fast.  Also, after there for a year, you can leave.

I hate working there but anyone can do a year of it.

I don't know if they let you use books for the test or if it is timed or not.  Maybe someone else knows, but a lot of the bigger places let you use books.  Look up everything.

What I really hate to see is
people who do not want to work on VR for whatever reason come here and throw out, for example, less experienced, slower, etc. and that is what happens. If you don’t like, fine, work until your job switches you over and then find another job and then, well you can finish this thought out. To assume, like is about 98% of the time done with VR, is just wrong and that is what I am talking about. The first person said they had experience of 30 years and then went on to say less experienced, well she has less experience than I do and so?
Do I hate it?

Well, HATE is a strong word.  I probably don't hate it as much as I hate war, murder, oppression and hominy, but I pretty much dislike it the way it is now.  The thing is, I have hung on, keeping hope that it would get better, that I would find the perfect niche for me in this industry, and it just isn't happening.

It does to me too but I hate to think
That it's a company I contract with :-(
