I just started back with them...

and would be curious about what you are talking about.  I work a strange schedule, so the work load issue normally is not a problem, but was curious if there is something I need to know.  Thanks.

back some 15-16 years ago when I first started
MT, wasnt the AAMT at the heart of changing the name of 'typist' to 'medical language specialist' and werent they involved in raising the pay scale etc, because cant we do that now what they did back then? How did they do it? I remember the old typewriters and being taught by a CMT, and they told me it was not more a few years beforehand that they were just a typing pool but when I started they already had their own office, their own 'respect' in the hospital. However that happened, we need to do that again because I feel we have regressed, even past that point of a 'typist' -

My last couple of years working in the hospital setting (which then I could not wait to work at home!?) are filled with memories where especially at holidays the doctors would send flowers, gifts, candy, toasters, I mean they treated us pretty good.

Now we are treated less than human beings, this has to change. I realize the doctors do not control the money anymore, and that is a big part of it because in my opinion I think they spread the money around a little bit more than the insurance companies/government who now control it. We will never see any of it...

I would not mind getting involved, either, if you have any ideas.

Know what you mean about the coffee - speaking of which, gotta run and get mine too!
Be careful, this is how it started with MQ a few years back
when they cut VR pay. I saw a tremendous cut in pay and I did leave after really trying to make it work for me. I think the only ones who are able to earn the same or near are those on a different VR system than MQ and have extremely easy accounts with easy formats and extremely clear dictators. I actually think you need to be a more experience MT to do VR reports well and I'm sure lots of inaccurate info gets through because of just reading and not really transcribing. I did it for many years and it sure didn't progress for me, only less money to do it.
You obviously do not work there. They started paying the extra a while back for OT. sm
nm
I sent it in the first day, heard back in a few days, took the test and started last week. sm
I know that they are very busy and it sounds like they are getting even busier. It took about a week after I took the test to hear, but I was told there were over 100 people taking tests and they were picking the best scores.
I was hired and started in 1 week. That is not a long set-up time. When I started with our local h
I needed to get a physical and go through orientation at the hospital which is only given two times per month. This is a 900-bed hospital, so it cannot be an unusual process. MQ took 2 weeks. KS took 1 week. SoftScript never got me started even after repeated calls and emails.

I have only been with KS for 9 months but would never put them in the same catagory as the others you mentioned. They are the best company I have worked for, and unfortunately, I have bounced around a little in the last 5 years.

I worked in QA for Transcending back in 2000-2001. They were paying hourly back then. SM

The accounts weren't too horribly bad.  The reason I ended up leaving was because slowly but surely they began to inch closer and closer to paying QA by production.  When I first started, the quota was something like 30 reports a day.   We simply had to make sure that we QA'd all reports that were close to being out of TAT first and then do the rest.  Then, my supervisor left and they hired a new one who immediately called a big teleconference meeting and said we had to up production to 60 reports a day.  Then, they started counting lines.  Which was fine because they were still paying hourly.

Next, there was an MT who used VR software because she was blind - yes blind.  Again, when I first started, I was told we had to edit her entire reports because she used the VR software and we had to make sure that everything was correct and made sense.  Then, we are told only check the blanks.  I wasn't comfortable with that and I continued to completely proof every word.  Then I was called on the carpet not because I wasn't meeting the production quota, but because I was ONLY meeting the production quota.  I told them I was proofing all of the MT's work that used VR, I was told that no one ever told me to proof every word of the VR reports and that I needed to fill in blanks and move on.  When I voiced my concerns, I was told that was my job, to fill in blanks and I should move on and strive to product above the standards.  Next thing you know, rumors abounded about changing the QA staff to being paid on production.  So I left.

There just seemed to me to be too little concern for quality and more emphasis on quantity and I just didn't want to be part of company who would take money out of my pocket just to line their own and that's what they were doing by putting QA on production.  I also am not comfortable with the job of QA being thought of as a blank filler.  There is much more to the QA profession than just simply filling in blanks.

I don't know if Transcend ever did start paying QA by production, but I could see that the idea was being floated there.  Maybe there was a enough protest that they didn't change from hourly.

Good luck to you!

Phoenix Medcom- Another apply a few months back, ask to take a test and never heard back??
I applied a month or two ago, received an email from someone asking if I would take a test and said she was getting ready to go on vacation for a week, so I hurried and immediately and told her I'd love to take the test. I never heard back. I waiting thinking she went on vacation and would contact me when she got back to do the test but nothing...very strange..Just wondered if this happened to anyone else.
Has everyone heard back from Keystrokes yet regarding the email we received a while back?
Just wandering why I haven't heard any response yet.
I sent them an email back in August and never heard back sm
Is this company on Long Island? I checked out their website and even tried calling once. Were you successful in contacting them? All i know is that the company is owned by some doctors.

Hopefully, you will hear back. Unfortunately, I immediately heard back from MD-IT
but somehow with over 16 years of experience, I blew the test.  I was soooo disappoionted and yet pretty stunned.  I am by no means perfect but I haven't flunked a test in years.  I expected it in my early years but not this far down the road. I was so confident and they will not tell you which part you did not pass and why so it really just blew my mind.  I must have been in shock for like two hours after I got the email. Oh well, someone will want me....hopefully.  I was thinking about OSi but I don't think I could take another rejection if I never heard back.
I had the same thing happen, went back to MQ, went back to KS and could not be sm

happier.  I am on a different account then the first time and it is as if it is a different company.  I have a great lead who leaves us alone most of the time but is there when I need her.  It showed me that you can have a different experience within the same company.

I have to say that in the few weeks since they have the new office, it is much more organized probably because there are a lot of people there all the time.  I had the pleasure of speaking to the new HR manager who was HR at a hospital, got my questions answered about insurance as I am going to full time and had a live voice pick up the phone.

Not all change is bad.  This is one company that has changed for the better.

I was reading about the back up help. I would like also to have some back up work.
I am not getting anywhere near 12,000 lines this go around.  My goal is 12,000 lines each pay period.
Back away from the hoops!! Back away!
I worked for them about 6 months - same mess to get hired - FBI check is right! It was unreal. I was so excited, though - they promised me the moon, and I really thought I had found my new home after centuries with that other company who shall not be named.  What a disappointment, to say the least. All around horrible experience, and I would NEVER recommend them. Certainly they were not worth the hoops at all. Total waste of effort.
and they started
you at 9.5 cents per line???
Well let's see, I started my day
and have sat here all day to only have 60 some reports! Sad but true. I have 2 other PT jobs for this very reason. I only stay because when the work is there, the money is good. If it does not pick back up soon, I'm gone!
Just started...
using CS this past week, and it is very, very easy and practical to use. You should love it!
I started with TT at 8 cpl - sm
and I was told by Debbie that top pay was 8.5 cpl, not over.  Maybe it was the account I was on.  Don't know.  Just relaying what I was told.  I really did like TT.  I couldn't afford their benefits, and yes, it is my fault for not doing my homework.  I
i actually just started with DRC ..
and just completed my first week. When I was offered a position, I was told that everything counts - spaces, characters, everything in expander. Considering it was just my first week with getting used to the system as well as formatting and dictators, I did very well - a hair below where we need to be for full time, which is not bad considering I relistened to all my jobs before sending it. That is my method of learning. I am happy:)
when I first started with MQ which sm
was then Transcriptiosn Limited, for years, I was a subcontractor given a 1099 and they supplied all my equipment. Probably weren't suppose to. Well, I leased it. Maybe that make a difference.
I started at 10 cpl with MDI-MA
NM
I started out at
8, then they gave me 9 because the account I was on was HEAVY esl, then switched to VA, which also pays 9. Did fine on the ESL account but can't make the new production requriments on the VA account. Oh, full time employee status.
Just started, but so far ...
I'm not having too many problems other than the usual just getting used to new things. I don't think WebCorrect is that slow. I've worked on worse, that's for sure. I've checked their line counts and found them to be accurate and they do include spaces/65 char lines.

I haven't been paid yet, so I can't comment on that.

Communication is very good. You can IM a question any time. I've never waited long for an answer. You do have to pay attention to who you're supposed to IM though.

Everyone I've encountered is very nice and professional. I might change my mind later, but so far, I think it's working out well for me.
I just started with them, but so far
Mary has been extremely flexible with the schedule. Just ask her. I would be willing to bet she would work with you. She is the easiest boss I have worked for yet and I have worked for quite a few:)
I started with them just a little over

a month ago and can't afford the $125 to quit.

Do they still charge you $125 to ship back the computer if you're there for more than 45 days?

Welcome! I just started...
recently myself.  Does your account start with a C by chance?
started at ,12, now...
make 16.
I just started with SGS
So far I have no complaints.  Im fortunate, I have a very easy account.  I have not had any ESLs so far...well, I had one, but he had an English/British accent and was not difficult to understand.  I think the platform you work with is dependent on the account you are assigned to.  I am using a web-based platform and Word 2000.  As for direct deposit, I do believe they told me they have it, but I could have confused them with another company I was entertaining simultaneously.  Benefits are reasonable for individuals, the family price is a little pricey in my opinion at nearly $178 per pay.  I have to do some serious typing to justify that big of per pay deduction and Im hoping I can pull it off because I need those benefits as a single parent.
just started
I am just starting with them. If you want to email me I will give you what I know.
Just started
I just started with them and so far I like it. My account has been great. Everyone has been very nice.
Just started with them myself

but have you tried cut and pasting document into a Word document just to get a rough idea?  Or is that what you did already?

Just started with them....
on a brand new account. It is a group of hospitals and there is evidently plenty of work. I am doing Emergency Department Reports, which there is a never ending supply of. I am brand new, so it has been kind of tough, but everyone is very helpful and encouraging.

That's all I know, hope it helps.
No, have not started yet, my first
year as IC. Employee prior to this with another company.
Just started...sm
I am working two jobs at this point as i wanted to feel things out before jumping in and the were understanding about that, number 1.  The testing was not bad at all and was in line with the actual work difficulty.  I do ortho so I don't know about the other testing, but I would imagine it isn't bad.  Thus far, I have had plenty of work, QA is WONDERFUL--best i have ever seen by far.  The internet platform takes a little getting used to if you are used to installed programs, but still not a major issue.
and when I started w/MQ they had 12,000+ MTs

Yes, that's exactly how it started out with me...sm
She told me my bank was rejected my direct deposits because my account was closed. I was actually dumb enough to believe her for a while and kept arguing with my bank. Please keep my posted about your situation. I've recently sent a copy of all the invoices she owes me to the hospital with a copy of the job numbers, etc. I doubt they'll pay me but they'll certainly see what kind of a business she's running. I cannot even imagine where she gets off thinking that she can get away with pulling this. I just find it incredible. Hope you have better luck than I did!!!
It has still not started.

After you get started
I almost took the test, but went for a job closer to where I live, in the same state.
I started at .09 CPL at WMX.
x
I just started with them...not so sure yet!
It's too early to tell about the company. I like the HR manager, recruiter, etc., but the QA manager is a little pushy....
Have you started yet?
How long after testing did you hear back from them? How long after being hired did you receive your equipment? Do they pay an hourly rate for training? Thanks
I just started there and not on DD yet. I don't know
when I'll get a paper check.  The company may be growing, but if they are getting the payroll info to ADP in the required time frame I don't know what the issue is.  I would be worried that I didn't have a good answer as to why the payroll is late, especially is this is the second time it has happened, because I would be walking it through the make sure everything was okay and if it wasn't I'd be chewing someone's rear.   I don't know how late it was last time, but if this hasn't been a pattern I don't think it is time to freak.
Here's what I did when I started out...

My first year as FT IC, when I had the accounts set up I did a guesstimate of my income and expenses, go ahold of the required Federal tax forms, and did a mock-up. This gave me a ball-park figure of what taxes would be due the Feds. After the first year when I paid it all in one lump sum in April (having stashed the money monthly in a savings account), then the Feds sent me a pack of quarterly payment slips.  From that point on I paid quarterly.

You can pay as much as you want to the Feds (they'll take it!), and I tried to hedge on the side of caution, so sometimes I got a refund. Most of the time I had paid my taxes fairly accurately.

The advice to talk to an accountant for your state is a very good one, especially if this is your first at-home business venture. Usually CPAs don't charge a horrid amount for a consultation and it can make things a lot easier for a newcomer to Schedule C.

You can e-mail me with more specific questions, will help if I can. Good luck to you!

Getting started
I also was lucky to have received on-site training from wonderful co-workers--one of whom also trained her own daughter. Of course, now, with all the outsourcing, Indian mothers can pass this trade on to their daughters while we are supposed to be politically correct, broad-minded, and respectful of all other countries (but our own of course) and just tell our own daughters to go find something else to do. Very fair, isnt it.
i started with 8
For acute care, but I lasted 1 month.
I just started with them and I really like it. sm

Lots of work.  Decent dictators for the most part (in my pool).  I like the management team.  They answer  your questions and are very nice and very  helpful, as are the QA people.

I opted for full time and work Sunday through Thursday on the day shift. They are very flexible too if something comes up during your shift. You can pick a schedule that fits your needs and don't necessarily have to do 8 hours 5 days in a row.  I like having my two days off together (Fri and Sat).  Haven't had that happen in a looooooooooong time.  :)

The platform takes a bit of getting used to, but my old platform (MQ) was cemented in my brain for the past 4 years.  The team and QA people have been very helpful with that as well.

It was only my first week, but it went very well.  I like it much better than my old job.

Good luck!!

I started...
working for them maybe 3 months ago and only worked 1 month.  Like I said it was hard for me to get work, although I'm not saying it's like that on all accounts, they post here daily looking for MTs, so I don't know.  I was told when starting that it was 60% VR and 40% typing, but I probably typed maybe 5 jobs the entire time I worked there, it seemed to be all VR.
i just started and
and was never treated the way you supposedly were...kind of wonder how truthful your being here...being asked to commit to a tue-sat or sun-fri isn't telling you when you have to work...you need to check yourself
Getting started - but not really

Okay, I graduated from a branch of CareerStep in 2000, but the company that did the training was only training for one physician group.  The training was very localized to acute care (so I have trouble with other specialities, but I am learning) and when I started working it was acute care.

Problem is that once I was given this job I found out they didn't offer benefits if you weren't full time...and they couldn't move me to full time.  I left to start working in high tech with medical benefits.  Since then I have worked per diem (The company would call and ask me to cover for MTs on vacation or for excessive workload) but I was paid cash or off the books; so I can't use these companies as references.

So many companies say no newbies...but I am not a newbie.  I also have trouble passing the tests that others give because of how limited my training was.  I score a 92 and they want 95 or I score 84 and they want 85.  It's so close!

Any ideas on what I can do?  My last few job positions were with small companies (really just one MT saying they own a company which is really just a group of MT's using this one person as a recruiter)  and the lack of support or even professionalisim is appalling.  I was actually accused of lying on my resume with the last one.

I took these per diem jobs hoping they would result in more permenant employment, but no such luck.

Any suggestions would be helpful, it seems that I am somewhere between newbie and experienced even though I have 9 years of experience!

Thanks

why if you started in the 70s and have sm
done this for so long, would you even consider VR to be a good thing? Surely to goodness YOU have enough sense to realize that VR is nothing more than a way to take MT to the level of just a plain typist.....no even less than that.

I cannot for the life of me figure how any good MT who knows their stuff can enjoy this kind of thing much less think it is an overall good thing for the medical record itself. What happened to a sense of satisfaction of having put out a great medical/legal document for the benefit of the PATIENT? Everything aside, the only thing VR personnel is doing is correcting the mistakes that either a machine make or an MT that doesn't know what they are doing!

At the very least I would rather be doing QA and teaching and mentoring a prospective GREAT MT!
