How do these MT schools get away with saying you can make $40,000 per year. That is a fake
advertisement and should be banned!
I started there at the beginning of this year, and..
have had no problems whatsoever. Never had to call even once about a late paycheck. I have the schedule that they gave me sitting in front of me right now. It gives all of the pay periods through 12/31/05, and the exact date that the check will be deposited in the bank. It has never been late; always on time. You can even go online a few days before your scheduled deposit, and see the amount that is going to be deposited on pay day. Are you sure she worked for the same company?
Started 1 year ago, very happy
I enjoy my account and my team leader is very nice.  The benefits are affordable, they use United Healthcare, and pay is every other Friday by direct deposit.  The software is easy to learn and use and my Expander was compatible.  Hope that may help, good luck to you.
Anyone who started with CyMed this year still with them? What do you like about them? nm
cx
I started at Medware 1 year ago
They have been a good company to work for.  I have plenty of work in my primary account, and have gone to my secondary on occasion.  I like my team leader and also having direct deposit, something that is way better than the checks I used to wait forever on at my old service.  Medware may not be for everyone but I have enjoyed everyone from tech support to training to my team leader.
I started at Medware 1 year ago
They are a good company and have work.  I started out PT as I worked out my notice and then went full time.  They have accounts that use EXText and I love that software, easy to make a good line count.  I like being paid by direct deposit and the health insurance is about $17 a week, so that seemed affordable to me.  Good luck to you.
Started one year ago and like MedScribe
They have some very nice people and I like my account.  I am an employee because I need healthcare benefits.  I also like the direct deposit, that was a big change from where I came from.  All in all I think they are a good company, I needed steady work and pay coming in to support myself.  HTH.
I started as an employee a year ago
They give you a 12 hour window to work within so I like that flexibility.  The other big factor that made a difference for me was the direct deposit, I was an IC at another company and was looking for employee with insurance.  The insurance is with Aetna and it is a great plan, but as with good insurance it costs about $40 per week.  But it is a PPO with a low deduct and I can also use my prescription card when I have to.  I compared at the time and it seemed to be about as much as what other companies offered but a better plan.  They are nice people to work with and I stay busy, that helps too.  Good luck in your search.
Once people started to leave last year
and the company was up for sale and more office employees started to leave, we should have seen it coming. All the red flags were present I just didn't want to believe it..such a sad day..I wonder if anyone will work this week?
If you had asked this a year ago, I might have said that I was not happy and actually started sm
to look for another job. I have seen really big changes in a lot of areas since then, the biggest one being communication. I would not even consider leaving now. I have been with them for almost 3 years.
I was started at 8.5 and given a raise after a year to 9 cents sm
I know that I hired on at a time when they were desperate and I have many years of experience, hence the more than usual. I was also an IC.

I have not heard of anyone else getting a raise, however. Employees were given a line count incentive and told if they wanted more money to work more. ICs had no such luck. They are management top heavy with a team leader and at least 1 QA for each team, 6 teams at the moment. They also have an MT manager, an IT manager with 4 people under him, and 6 people to go after new accounts (few new accounts while I was there), an office manager and 2 or 3 people who do payroll and human resources. LOADS of support people means the MTs who actually do the work get paid less. Keep in mind, they only have about 225 to 250 MTs at any given time. Top heavy.

Where I work now, we have an office staff of 7 and about 13 other support people for 350+ MTs. You'd think I'd have problems getting questions or problems solved and I don't. They are right there 24/7. Result? We get paid more per line.

I don't know, Zylo was a great place when I was there and has steadily gone to pot over the past 6 to 9 months.
I started at 8 cpl, was increased to 9 cpl in 3 months and 9.5 in a year. nm

are there any companies who are reputable, mean what they say, do what they say, and
Are there any honest, reliable, trustworthy, respectable companies out there that put their money where their mouths are? I have been very let down twice now by two separate nationals, and am totally disheartened. I do a good job and that is all I want to do. What I expect from a company is for them to do what they say they will ... if they are going to train, then train ... if they are going to say they respond to your calls, respond ... if they say you will have returned reports edited and errors pointed out, send the edited reports with the corrections ... if they say they will give you a supervisor/lead/manager, present that person....if they say their tech department will help, does it always take 3-5 hours to solve a problem?

Honesty!! That is all I am asking for. Any companies out there that anyone would really say know what INTEGRITY means? If so, please, please let me know. :( Is it even worth it to have hope after struggling to polish skills via these new online schools, as I did? Is there anyone to trust out there? TRUST?
No for ethical and reputable
MT companies, it won't! When you uses something like autokeys or autocorrect, I really do not know how they are going to figure out what keys you actually hit to produce a word, phrase or sentence.
They are reputable. Pay always on time.
4 cpl editing, 8-9 cpl transcribing. Decent company. They are bringing all of their work back to USA, were offshoring to India, but that became a huge problem. Now, they are in the process of trying to bring it all back. Pretty upfront and honest people.

Are there any reputable companies
It is sad to me to see someone covering for the MTSOs.  They know they can get away with anything because they can get somebody else in five minutes or less.  As long as they have desperate fools willing to work and put up with them, things will never change.
Reputable MT Companies???sm

Does anyone know any reputable MT companies to work for?  I have a prospect on a local group here, but just waiting on them to get ready to hire for the position.  I was promised I would be the first one called when the position comes available.  I am afraid to apply for something online because I don't want to get in a situation that is just as bad as MQ or worse.

I also need flexibility because I have a 4-month-old infant and have to work my schedule around my husband's full-time job.  So, if anyone knows of any good places to work, drop me a line and let me know.

Thanks

No reputable company would allow
any MT to pick and choose the work they want to do. The company I work for would not tolerate that, which is why they are so popular. Work is assigned according to TAT unless there is a stat due. Army Brat must work for a terrible company if she/he is so paranoid about who gets what work.
no reputable company should ever sm
have an incident where there is a bounced check! Lots of places have financial problems but they don't let their payroll bounce. Sad state of affairs I'd say!
ATSI/MT World - Are they reputable?

Find a reputable school
Hi, Shelley.

I am so sorry you got pulled in by TranSCAM. I agree with the other poster's info on contacting a lawyer and the BBB about them.

There really is no way to do OJT in this career anymore. The best way to get into transcription is through studying with a reputable school such as CareerStep. There are others....look through the posts on here to find schools that graduates recommend. Best of luck to you!
I didn't say the company was reputable. (sm)

It's one of the larger companies that used to be the apple of MTStars' eye until it started to offshore.  They would vigorously defend this company, and now -- nothing.

It's a big company, so I guess in some people's eyes, it's reputable.  When it was offered to me, I thought it was disgusting, and to me, the company lost all credibility.

They hired another person to work on my account (a former employee of the customer), and when they told me I typed too fast for the account and that the new person wasn't getting many jobs, I finally had it and quit, never looked back and never regretted it.

I found a much better, much smaller company that I believe wouldn't tolerate this kind of behavior.  Bigger isn't always better.

Looking for a reputable company, preferably to do op reports..sm

I am currently with a company with whom I have been happy for the last few years but things seem to be changing. My account has been overstaffed and I have spent the last 45 minutes trying to dial in to my account but all lines are busy.  Starting out the day with this level of frustration is not healthy and for this reason along with others I may need to make a change. Can anyone give me any ideas of stable companies with plenty of work and good pay that do not require weekend work?  I have 30 years acute care experience and prefer op notes but am open to clinic work too. I try to do 1800-2000 lines a day, care about my work product and am a very reliable employee.  I simply need to make some steady money!  Thanks for any help or advice offered.

Find a reputable financial investment guy
And open a ROTH IRA.
There are schools, and then there are schools.... (sm)
and so far no one where I worked before or currently has been interested in hiring. Some schools are nothing but a scam. Others are excellent. It's the transition period from newly-graduated student to income-producing worker that has a lot to do with the MT shortage. Many newbies throw in the towel and quit the profession because even though they're ready to work, they can't get in. Back in the day, many services & hospitals would take a couple newbies under their wing (I was one of them) to basically learn on-the-job. That may not be a completely viable option nowadays, but something in-between would. Another thing that I'd love to see changed is the snooty attitude many old-timers have to newcomers to the field.
The two best schools seem to be
Andrews and M-Tec. I have been in this industry for decades, both as an MT and MTSO, and it seems that the grads from those two are the most ready to hit the ground running. I wish you luck with getting money back from TranSCAM; they have, unfortunately, ripped off many people who fall for their shtick.
Yes, these schools
just want your money because so many people who get into this field shouldn't be doing it in the first place. It takes certain skills to be able to do this and the schools don't even care if you know how to read, they just want your money. I took a $600 course and finished in 3 months and luckily I found work on this website 3 years ago as a newbie. Since then, others have talked to me about this career and I discourage them if they don't have the capabilities it takes to do this type of work. So many think that it's a piece of cake since they can already type. And it is very difficult to find a job with an internship included. And they want experience, usually 3 to 5 years. Those seem to be very difficult to find these days. I wouldn't recommend it myself and I do enjoy my job.
I wonder about schools s/m

KIds seem to be graduating now without skills in the old basic, reading, writing and arithmetic and it didn't just start recently.  Another of my pet peeves is hearing people say, I'm not reliable for accidents.  Good grief!!!!!  I've heard this spoken and seen it written.

Has anyone heard of SribeRight and is it a reputable company that will pay on time and have a lot of
work with benefits
A lot of the crap schools do

take that as truth.  I know I certainly did not.  There are schools that cannot get you a foot in the door, let alone promise that you can make those amounts.

Then there are schools like Career Step who have information about grads who did/do make that amount...but they don't promise it and have never promised that their grads would make that wage.

It is very possible, but for a lot of us, it's not. We cannot really blame that on the schools. We need to blame ourselves and the companies for the the 5-7 cents a line that we settle for because, like all families, we need to feed our children and pay our bills.

I see it with colleges. You can make this much in this field, you can make that much in that field. It all depends on where you work, how productive you are, what state you are in, tons of factors. Same is true with MT, too many factors.

Nothing is ever promised, especially in this line of work.

I am just happy to have a job that I love, that I am able to have the opportunity to stay at home with my young daughter, have deductions come tax season.

Hey, I made more waitressing than I did doing transcription my first year, but does that mean I want to go back to waitressing? Not a chance.  I could have made more at McDonalds, in fact, but do I want to deal with that crap?  Not really.

I am thrilled about being an MT and would not trade it for the world and certainly didn't buy into the get rich scheme that a lot of those schools throw our way.

It's a shame that schools have to use that as a way to get people to attend, but it works..and let me tell you, I have plenty of people that have never ever done transcription that tell me what a cake job my job is, you've all heard it before.. I CAN DO THAT, ALL YOU DO IS TYPE

...and THOSE are the people that get backed into the corner by these schools thinkin that this is going to be something that they just type and can throw out lines like crazy and make that $40,000 a year....because we all know, MT is EASY... psshhh.  Those schools should have to provide proof and stats.

Recommedations on DL Schools
I am looking to take my MT training. I want to make sure that I choose a distance learning school with very rigorous and demanding courses. I want to learn as much as possible. If anyone has any recommendations, they would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!
Two online schools

that have a record of getting their graduates placed in positions at home WITHOUT needing 2 years of experience are:

Andres

MTEC

Comparing schools
I took a quick look at their website, what they offer, and how much it costs. Are you interested in this course because they say they often hire top graduates? This course does not guarantee you a job with them. They even say you have to go out and market yourself.
As an M-Tec graduate, I can tell you that if you study hard and after graduation really stick to it, you will find a good job. You receive a large number of real books with M-TEC and not just some workbook. With M-TEC you have your own instructor to answer your questions and guide you through the course. Not to mention the online classes and vast online resources they offer. They have their own IT expert, who will answer your questions and holds online classes. After graduation, they will always be there to help if they can. They help with your resume, and after graduation they provide you with a large list of MT companies that hire new grads. Make a list of questions, submit them to the top 2 or 3 schools, and compare answers. Good education has its price, but it will also open doors for you!!
I blame the schools also.
Work at home, big money, easy job. Yeah, right. Just like stuffing envelopes.
Shame on MT schools
Shame on these MT schools saying they can guarantee graduates $60,000 per year!! Of course some say up to, which is very subjective, though very misleading.  They ought to let people trying to get into this business know that unless they are fortunate enough to find the right fit, they are in for a bumpy ride.
these MT schools only care about the sm
money they can get and that is the bottom line.

On the other hand, there have been plenty of MTs on this board who have spoken against these MT schools and their advertising practices. We have said that this is no field to get into if you just want to work at home etc and that no school for four months, six months whatever was going to be enough to get into the field and that it takes years and years of working to even be qualified to work at home alone. But you know what? Everytime somebody talks against the schools and the fact that this profession is going down the tubes because of the attitude of wanting to work at home and make lots of money, we get blasted by other posters with rude and nasty posts.

Many of us have warned folks who wanted to go to these schools, not to do it and folks won't listen. They pay their money and just as you describe, they get out of school and still can't do the job.

Im glad somebody else is saying what the real deal is with these schools and these advertisements because for myself, this is the last time I will ever mention it. Some folks will only learn by doing and wasting their money. They won't listen.
I think you would be doing good to find a reputable company, much less by putting qualifiers
:+
There is also the reputable company out of No. Carolina that's NOT the United Tran with the train
s
Reputable company w/ platform compatible w/ InstanText/Shorthand

Am heavily dependent on sophisticated Expanders that incorporate code script, like ShortHand and InstanText.  Can anyone recommend reputable employers whose platforms are compatible with these programs?

Allied Business Schools, Inc.

I have had no problems getting job offers.  Right now I am working for a great lady that really respects her MTs.  She just got a new account, so she is growing, which is a good thing.  I can work whenever I want, literally.  The only she asks is that I do at least 30 minutes of dictation a day for five days a week.  Of course, I will do way more than that, but it is nice to know that if I need a break for a day or two then she won't mind.s

I wish you the best of luck!!!

There are 2 great on-line schools
that are so good their graduates are hired right away: Andrews and M-Tec.

Don't accept less than the best where your livelihood is concerned.

I agree with you about the way substandard schools
operate, but I would call people who fell into their traps, 'suckers.'
I am convinced that they came into this profession with diligence and the honest wish to give their best, work hard. but were overwhelmed by what they were confronted as not well- and enough-trained newbies.

They were misinformed and taken advantage of by misrepresentation and false promises.
and they can afford to BUY TRANSCRIPTION SCHOOLS!!!
...and they didn't lower the cost for the HOSPITALS! They're just pocketing all the money they are making by RAPING US of our pay!!!!!

CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT!
Word ZPressed or Keystrokes? Any info on either company? I have heard both are reputable
thanks
I was hired and started in 1 week. That is not a long set-up time. When I started with our local h
I needed to get a physical and go through orientation at the hospital which is only given two times per month. This is a 900-bed hospital, so it cannot be an unusual process. MQ took 2 weeks. KS took 1 week. SoftScript never got me started even after repeated calls and emails.

I have only been with KS for 9 months but would never put them in the same catagory as the others you mentioned. They are the best company I have worked for, and unfortunately, I have bounced around a little in the last 5 years.

Gee, ya think that's maybe why the original poster asked about SCHOOLS??

Amazing! Obviously brains are not too much of a requirement...Ya just had to get that dig in about how hard it is due to medical "language", yadda, yadda.  Give it a break and say something we or the original poster DIDN'T know!

MQ will hire newbies from "approved schools", what are they? sm

I am considering going through a community college that has a 100 hour internship program at the end.  I want to know if this will be enough to hire on as a trainee with them.

Is it just Career Step they approve of?  Anyone know?

It's all those matchcover schools telling them they can make
$40,000-50,000 in their first year working at home while their small children play quietly at their feet! The only ones getting rich are the so-called schools. There ought to be somewhere to turn them in for false advertising.
