I so totally relate! I go back to the days of mag-cards,

I took a Wang course at the local Jr. College because my boss said they were getting one. Suffered through a year of typical school garbage: a semester of 'The History of Word Processing'; a semester of classroom work for Wang information; then another semester of lab -- made all the more exasperating because the PC I'd been assigned to kept breaking down on my lab nights. Ah, yes. The good old days.

But at least back then, a person could rent an apartment and fill their refrigerator on what we were paid. Remember that? Nowadays it's nothing but a distant memory...............

That's such a shame, and I can totally relate.
you might be. I had a feeling things were going on like that, and being on the MT end now, I don't know how you do it.  You are wonderful and talented and intelligent QA person, and a super help to me. You are the only one I ever trusted right at the git go, as there are games galore. Don't let anyone there ever let you feel otherwise. I can imagine the games you are experiencing, have been in a whirlwind of them myself with the same gals, and if it helps at all, I am going thru very similar games as well, and have cried myself to sleep many a night.  Its not worth it, and I'm throwing in that towel, too, really soon. It will be their loss, and one thing this has taught me is never believe anything one reads on this forum, especially the glowing reviews of super companies.  The reality is a slap in the face, and in my case, a near disastrous slap in the pocketbook as well.  If you are you, you probably know who I am, and I think you're the best. I also am a very good judge of character.   Promise to keep in touch if your throw your towel first, okay?
I totally agree..we do what we have to these days. nm

It took them 2 to 3 days to get back to me after
testing.  I never interviewed, just submitted the test and they e-mailed me with an offer.   The testing goes through QA, so if there are doing another hiring blitz there may be a backlog.   I knew I had done well on the testing and really thought I'd hear from the sooner, but was told testing was hung-up in QA.
I think it's because back in the old days, when -
this was considered a 'good' job, many of us (myself included) felt we didn't NEED a union. Now, looking back, I think that if we'd had one back when things were better, our profession wouldn't be in the sorry state it's in today.

The other reason is that for the most part, the average MT is usually less of a 'joiner' than lots of folks, and harder to convince they need a union. Also, since MTs are usually women, employers have found us easy to belittle, intimidate, and insult with puny, ever-shrinking wages.

I'm sure most of us, back when few of us had our own PCs, were being told constantly by our employers that we were 'lucky to have a job at all' - (remember that little speech?) I'm sure you all heard it at one time or another.

We are usually isolated, as well - either at home or cloistered away in an area away from the main part of the hospital, or even sometimes completely offsite. That isolation makes it even easier for employers to feed us all the bull they've been feeding us for so many years, all the while sending our work offshore to make even more of a profit, and then patting each other on the back for cutting our wages and our benefits.

Now that we have the Internet, with all its information, and MT forums like this one, I think we should use this powerful tool to unite and start to speak as one large, powerful group, instead of lots of insignificant individuals. In that way, we just might be able to draw public and political attention to what's been going on.

The healthcare industry is ALREADY under a lot of scrutiny lately for lots of OTHER shady goings-on that it's been involved with. The whole MT mess, with poor-quality records being produced for the sake of profit, private personal records going to god-knows-where, etc., needs to be brought to the attention of all those who are lobbying against the healthcare industry's practices up on Capitol Hill.
They got back with me within a couple of days. nm

It took about 10 days after testing for them to get back to me. nm
s
I heard back within 3 or 4 days...
and other than low pay, it is indeed a great place to work! They do give quarterly bonuses which helps a bit to cushion the 7 cpl (for clinic work). Good luck.
I was off QA in 2 days, have never had a report sent back to me....
have worked for this company for 2 years and have been an MT for 6 years. Before that, maybe a handful of reports sent back in the previous 4 years.
I heard back from her in 3 days
I tested and was asked to interview 3 days after my test. I accepted the position and then received my acceptance later 2 days later. If it's been 3 days, I would probably write and ask about the status of your application. She is pleasant and answered my emails in a very timely manner, which was nice.
I want the old days of transcription back!
Thanks for the rely.

In my 30 years of transcription, 28 of them I have loved,I was proud to be an MT even with the addition of ASR -- I can't say I really like it, but you know you grow and learn with the times and sometimes its for the better. Sorry to say, though, I am sad to see so many unhappy MTs now. Our jobs are now based on line counts and perfections of comas, etc, and not necessarily the integrity of the report that you will be paid for, or for that matter the difficulty of the doctor.

I always felt that transcription could see me into my golden years, and my knowledge that I have required through those years would better any company I might work for. I am sad to say that transcription is now just money, like the rest of big business and the integrity of MTs is at stake. I am so sad for my career which I thought I never would be. I don't want to leave this field but I have been nitpicked to death, moved to practically every region and hospital in the US (lost count after 100) and cheated out of a decent wage long enough. The last two years I have put up with hoping it would get better and it hasn't. Looking at other companies and they seem to all be the same, greed and money is what motivates then and nothing trickles down to the MT. These big companies, like MQ, have not yet realized the terrible mistake they have made and when they do all the good, old loyal ones will be gone. They have forgotten who makes the revenue for their company. It is the MT. If we are not typing, there would be no QAing, no Leader, no nothing.

Sorry, to go off but my last straw has been broken.
I got mine back in maybe 2 days. They've been
running an ad so may be swamped.  I didn't take the position because I found out they offshore and what the recruiter told me and the team leader told me were 2 totally different things about the account they wanted me to work on.
If you are going to get it back to them in 2 days, you should charge BIG buck. But from what I

Back in the days of YOG FN didn't have a good
name either.  Your post shows just how unprofessional FN is and surely does not entice anyone to apply with your company.  Even if what the person posted is not true, you could have chosen to take the high road, but instead you took the low road.
look back a few days.. LONG post about this

Just scroll back several days and search the pages for webmedx. nm

I sent it in the first day, heard back in a few days, took the test and started last week. sm
I know that they are very busy and it sounds like they are getting even busier. It took about a week after I took the test to hear, but I was told there were over 100 people taking tests and they were picking the best scores.
Totally deluded thinking! "bring transcription back in-house to gain control of the cost."
I just outsourced a hospital where the MTs across the board were making hourly wages that would shock you. My husband, who has a doctorate and makes well over $100 K a year, isn't making what some of them were! Hospitals are outsourcing because the MTs are making way too much money for what they do! Bring it back in house? Not unless they can make it fiscally feasible and pay someone do manage the deal.
Tested there 10 days ago and never heard a word back..guess I failed! nm

I can relate....

I worked with many MTs who were just as annoying, if not more so.  It is not easy to ignore them.  It is not easy to act like they don't bother you.  It is an extremely frustrating position to be in.  I wish I had an answer....but I don't.

When it got to the point that my productivity was suffering, then I had to do something.  No employer wants to pay you or any other MT to socialize.  It is not your job to listen to the complaints or bragging of another ad nauseum.  I just had to cut them short by keeping transcribing  ....sometimes even as they continued talking and/or bragging and/or complaining until they felt they were finished.

Good luck to you!!

I can relate to that.

I also worked for an MTSO and did not know my schedule from day to day.  I didn't like the fact that I had no idea how much my paycheck was going to be.  I also did not like that BOS was not followed.  That's a bad habit to get into.  I'm much happier now working from a pool.  At least I know how much I'm going to make because there is always work. I also didn't like the fact that I was never told of my physician's vacations until I asked.  My boss also was crabby when questioned about BOS and physician's vacations.

I can definitely relate. I don't have any
kids (not my choice, I just couldn't), so at my previous job before I resigned, it seems the MTs with kids always dumped their work on me. Yet when I needed help, my kids this, my kids that. I finally resigned and told them before I left point blank goodbye everyone, you will have to take advantage of someone else.
That is what I just said. !0 days PTO, period. That includes vacation, sick days and personal days
They should have paid holidays so that you are paid if you take off. Also should inculde extra hours for sick days and personal days.

That annual raise of .002 is kind of a joke especially when at the same time they upped the minimum line requirement from 10,000 lines to 12,000 lines.

OSi just does not have the qualified people in management positions that I wish to work for.

I am glad that you are happy at OSi and all is working out for you. Their dishonesty and the way they treat people just does not work for me.

Of course they can get by cheaply by hiring unqualified people so that is very good for the owners.
I can relate. Out of everything you said, what always irritated me most..sm
is when doctors cannot take the extra few seconds to offer demographics when they are right there in front of them on the chart. I have also spent so much worthless and unpaid time searching for spellings and addresses for referring physicians, etc. The sad part is that I know for a fact that these doctors had the charts directly in front of them to offer that information, but instead chose to skip over that information. To this day with a national, I still have this problem. The only good thing was having my own local clients, and getting to the point of being able to say enough is enough and ask them to please include spellings and addresses of doctors in their dictation if available. It was amazing after several requests how much more efficient I could be as an MT when they provided this information. I wish the personnel who were in charge of establishing and maintaining clients could make this a mandatory part of dictating a medical report. I understand there are cases when the doctor does not have this information available, but I have learned that more times than none, it is right in front of them. If I operated a transcription service again, this would be mandatory from my clients. It's really not that big of a deal, and enables the Transcriptionist to do their job, which is transcribing not searching address databases on the internet or trying to figure out how to spell Dr. Toomelahubab.
I can relate to the hunger........sm
Been hungry now for about 3 months, never enough food and running out of food with nothing to buy it with. I am going for food stamps tomorrow, enough is enough of playing around with the MT business. I found a really good job after playing around with a certain company for longer than I should have!!!
Obviously, I can only relate my own experience, but when I talked to D, she gave me sm

another account.  One other time, she switched people off my account so that I could do as much work as I want.  I am not insensitive to your plight, and I apologize if I came across that way.

D has always helpful and responsive when I have talked with her about any concerns I have, but I realize not everyone's experience at a company will be the same.  I certainly hope it improves for everyone, but no one could blame someone for leaving if he/she does not have enough work.  No one can live on just fresh air and sunshine.

Good luck!

Sorry, can't relate! I had 2770 lines for yesterday and I have

Those mag cards!

Forgot about them.  Those sucker were huge!

Another thing, I told my daughter about what my doc said this morning and guess what she told me?  She said when she goes to her doc she is given a laptop and has to fill out her own record.  She said it takes just about forever, which is probably what is going to happen with a lot of the EMRS.  Can you just imagine the mistakes that can produce.  She said then the doctor just reads the computer and doesn't ask any questions.  I never................  Is this what health care is going to come to?  Next we'll probably have the computer making the diagnosis and prescribing treatment and never even see a physician.

I received the e-cards as well - sm
I'll bet we have the same liason! I really like her and thought it was very thoughtful of her to take the time to do this.
Transcend does more than Thank you cards...
We get it - you are unhappy. I love the company and many others do. There are a lot of companies out there. Why do you stay?
cards are cheap... and so is the thought.
x
Have gotten cards from them svl times over the years. nm
s
I work for MQ and have never gotten a x-mas bonus, only cards. sm
Not even from the company they acquired 8 years ago.

I really doubt a company this big can give x-mas bonuses. With over 6,000 employees that is a lot of money to fork over. Plus with Philips Electronics wanting out of MQ, do not think even higher ups will get bonuses this year.
My company sent us E-CARDS this year. sm
They were too cheap to spring for a an actual paper holiday card with postage.
A freaking email card. Yeah, no gift card attached to that baby, either.

Ah, yesssss. Cards. I usually toss em right away,
I do hang onto the blank envelopes to use for sending things like homemade get-well cards, thank-you cards, etc. to friend. And my kittens are having a ball with the box the now-shattered coffee mug came in. It's all good. Almost.
Yes, it's totally word based, but it's also totally slow.
I haven't had a very good experience using dictaphone EXText. I wouldn't recommend anyone work on this platform. I don't know how anyone can say this is a very productive platform in any way whatsoever. Actually, it is the worst I've ever worked on. I like Bayscribe, DocQscribe, and many others over this setup.
Also Christmas cards, etc., should have been taken care of way before the accts
xxxxx
One gave small gift cards ($25). Another...
sent homemade cookies/candy. Another one, nothing. Current one sends out a big gift box of various stuff. Actual signifant cash money? Never for me.

Do they owe us anything? No. I don't think so.
Maybe we'll get Ramadan cards next year.
x
I used to do HR for an MTSO and sometimes cards took a while but the coverage was in place. sm
if they have taken the deductions out, don't panic. With the holidays and the way they fell this year with Thanksgiving and Christmas so close, a lot of companies were closed a lot. My SIL works for MetLife and they were closed all but 2 days each week between holiday parties and actual holidays, so perhaps that is what the holdup is. The insurance card is important but you are covered without it if you have been paying!
Spheris --sending out recruitment post cards?

Any one else get these things?  Don't they offshore?  I could have swore I saw some things on here about them running out of work.

Just wondering

Did you ever get anything? I'm perplexed why some people got just cards, some got card and gift c
and some of us nothing.  I can't imagine they forgot some people but it's starting to look that way. Oh well, at least we have work.
Yes I did. I thought it was an oversight on their part to not send cards, guess not.
nm
Transcend is playing games, giving gift cards
and doing contests (poetry) and others. There is a contest for a big screen TV.

Transcend cares about its employees
Last year, from Keystrokes we got Blockbuster gift cards for Christmas and for MT week sm
we got candles and candy. I always get a birthday card too, which is very nice.
Nothing from Transcend, although I heard others got gift cards or at least a card. I've worked th
several years so if it was just a case of being forgotten that is still pretty pathetic. How do you forget your employees, especially when you get junk bulk mail from there regarding nothing that involves you..but at Christmas you were forgotten. Oh well, I have work and for that I am grateful so I'll be nice...
You bill 30 days behind, and they snail mail it so it's late - about 40 days from invoice
No way jose - they even messed up their direct deposit payments
Merry Christmas to you too! I think it is great that Transcend sends out gift cards to employees.
I wonder how many other companies do that. Let's see, with over 1000 transcriptionists that is 25,000.

Again, thank you Transcend!
Maybe she/he works 14 hour days/7 days a week? nm
x
Would that be 5 business days or 5 regular days?
So when are we going to be paid this time around since you're so knowledgable?

Sorry, but for some of us a day or 2 actually makes a difference.
Most want 20 hours over 5 days, but it could be more, or it could be spread over 4 days. nm

Correction - TH has 5 PTO days 1st year/10 days 2nd yr
