I totally disagree, I love Transcend... there are a lot of companies out there..

instead of complaining, why don't you find another. Life is way too short, as someone said.

I totally disagree, love VR and can make good money at it
I have been doing now for about 4-5 years and hate it when I have anything straight to type. I have done this for over 30 years, have excellent speed at straight but Escription is a bowl of cherries where I work. I would never want to completely straight type again, never.
I totally disagree with you....sm
I've worked on other VR platforms and this one is far superior.
I totally disagree with you.
I have done VR for about 4-5 years now using eScription. It is totally amazing to me because it picks up our ESLs even better than I could ever do and the English speaking doctors are also excellent. Don't know what system you were on but apparently from what I read of others, all systems are not equal. I love VR and it sure makes my life easier.
I don't totally disagree with you but...sm
I am one of those exceptional MTs who does work her schedule... always have, always will. I have never missed a day of work in all my years of being an at-home MT (over 13)and have more often than not worked over time and days off just to keep an account in turnaround.

After years and years of this dedication, as an IC mind you... my company makes us employees and now I am set to a schedule whether there's work there or not. In years past I could run errands or do something else when work was slow and then come back and do the work later in the day... I can't do that anymore. And the worst thing is, now I'm penalized for not making average lph... and it's not even my fault!!

I have been looking and looking for a company where I can work when there's work. I don't have a problem working a set schedule if there's work when I'm required to be there.

I know the trend these days is for the wannabe MTs to come and go as you please, produce sloppy work, and just have a fun job they can do from home whenever and however they feel like it... but this attitude has ruined it for all of us oldies who have been dedicated MTs and have always taken this job and this career seriously!

I am so tired of being the one who has to pay the price for all the crack-downs and cuts that have been made just to rein in these slacker MTs. It isn't working on them anyway and it has driven the good MTs out of this business because we can't make a living wage anymore... this has fractured the whole industry.

I don't totally blame the MTs and I don't totally blame the MTSOs, both are accountable in some ways, but I do think there is some middle ground that could be found here. If an MTSO would put her foot down and demand the slacker MT step up to the plate and do her job or lose it, that would help a lot. I don't understand why they can't (or won't) do that.

I would love to work for an MTSO who would appreciate my dedication and willingness to work and not be afraid to pay a decent rate for it, but those MTSOs are hard to find and probably don't even exist anymore as they are tired of dealing with the slacker MTs too and are finding it hard to compete with the prices that the off-shore companies are offering their clients... Many of the MTSOs are probably getting out of the business too... or shipping it overseas.

Sorry for the rant... It's been a long week... and it's only Wednesday!!!
Totally disagree
I have to totally disagree with the comment about Spheris' speech recognition program. Cornerstone is extremely user friendly and makes speech recognition a breeze.

Now, as far as Spheris as a company....well, if I didn't work here already, I wouldn't hire on here.
I totally disagree with you. I left a (sm)
company where the QA staff had less experience then most of the MTs and they were all on a power trip and did nothing correct.

The QA at Medware are all very good in my opinion! Very helpful and certainly NOT on a power trip!
Totally disagree with your statement

The dictated H&P, CS, OP, DS reports are not so the hospital can be paid.  It is to provide continuity of care - aside from being a Joint Commission requirement upholding quality patient care.  JC decides the time lines these reports must be dictated and transcribed within.  It is NOT just so the coders can code or the hospital can get paid.  I transcribed a lot of reports from victims of 9/11.  They needed their transfer reports to go with them to their rehab or long-term facilities so the second facility would know the facts of their medical needs and how to care for them secondarily.

I don't know if you were around a few years back when many ER departments switched to a checklist to eliminate transcribed reports.  When the hospitals were audited and failed documentation requirements, the checklists were abandoned and a return was made to dictated reports.  The only checklists left in ERs now are for visits considered to be very low level triage patient not seen by a physician or PA.

Yes, there are rules about what must be included in all those reports, but that is a different topic and not linked to continuity of care.

Hope this clarifies some issues for you.

I totally disagree since I used to work at the Q sm
previously. I find Wbx much better, although things seem to be slow right now. Every company has highs and lows in work; from what I understand they are waiting for new accts to start, due to no fault of the company's. I'm sure MQ will take you back if you think it's better there.
Totally disagree with some things you are saying
I have ESLs as well as American doctors and the majority of them are NOT good dictators and Escription does a fantastic job so that is 1 sentence shot down. #2 - my acct was trained by at least 100 or more MTs and the ES again fantastic. Next you will be saying people who are not fast typists will actually do better on VR. I think most places using VR will have a great variety of dictators, slow and fast. It all evens out.
I disagree; I love MDI-Fl. Things have been
great. If anything, I get more communication than I really need
I disagree. I love Meditech and it is not slow. I currently do 400 lines/hour with sm
my Expander and have no connecting problems. It is not a dial-up connection, it is VPN with DSL. That might be the difference.

There are also two types of Meditech, Client and Magic. I use Magic and love it and Client is supposed to be even better because it is Word-based.

Different strokes for different folks.
I strongly disagree; Transcend cares a lot for its employees
If you do not want to play the game, just ignore the e-mails. Or, you may find another company is better for you. No sense being miserable.
I disagree. I think the companies can lose.
As MTs get wise to their dishonest and penny-pinching ways, and either jump ship or get out of MT altogether, they think they can always fall back on the poor workers from other countries. Well, that's what they first thought about at-home workers, when they started to close down in-house transcription and send it all home. They figured there'd be a never-ending gravy-train of bored little housewives who'd be just thrilled as all get-out to work for pennies on the dollar, just to have something to DO. But many of these 3rd world countries are going to turn a corner soon, and their wealth is going to increase. In large part, I think, because of all the industries in the US that have been allowed to die, and the work sent over there. As the standard (and cost!) of living go up in those countries, the MT work force is going to start to dry up if the pay doesn't get better. If it doesn't after the MT companies have finished raping every Transcriptionist they can find on Earth, they're going to have to start sending the work to other galaxies....
Totally agree,I love ExText
I have been working in ExText for months and love it. All of my lines are very accurate and I make an awesome line count every day working in it. I wouldn't want to work on any other platform!
LOL I totally agree! I love your cat versus hairball analogy! :-) nm

This whole IC Transcend thing is totally confusing to me!! sm
I read this board pretty regularly and I recall a few days ago somebody saying how they got an email threatening termination because they were not making the PT status.  When the company I was with was bought by Transcend somebody asked about IC and they said they only did PT and FT, no IC.  Since they bought MDI there is all this talk about them now offering IC.  I am just questioning this because it seems to me they might expect someone who is an IC to actually work PT status, of course with no PTO earned or anything else.  Again, this all just does not make sense to me especially if what a read a few days ago is true and somebody got an email threatening termination unless they made enough to be PT status.  I guess I am just wondering if anybody else has gotten an email stating that they needed to make PT status or might be terminated??
I think most MT companies live in a totally
Those who make the 6-figure salaries must think we peons have special supermarkets, clothing stores and gas stations we can go to, where the prices will match our paltry incomes.
No regional offices, just two totally different companies sm
MDI in Maryland and there is an MDI in Florida. MDI in Florida is owned by Transcend.

MDI in Maryland is a totally different company - good company as far as I know.
I LOVE Transcend!!!!!!!!!

Love Transcend
I have been with Transcend for two years and I plan to retire here. The benefits are great, just started a 401-K match, the people are supportive.
Thank you! I will take the work. I love Transcend!
x
I love transcend. They have a great rep with MLS...
Any company with over 600 MLS will have some happy, some not so happy - but to say "shady" I take offense to. I really love the company and many people agree with me
I love Transcend, I would not speak for everyone...
It's amazing the things people will say on these boards. There are a lot of happy transcriptionists at Transcend, and I get treated great. I love my job, get paid well per line and also get great benefits, including a 401-K match
I love Transcend, have been there for years...
started with MDI. The offshore component is mostly on Escription, and has never affected my workload.

Transcend is a good company; they treat me well and I make great money - I could care less if they offshore. Then again, I also have a Samsung TV, a German car and many things made in China!
Used to love Transcend, now no work.
Iused to make good money, did not even mind editing, but now I have to work 18 hours a day to try to get 1200 lines because all the work is taken. I have to ask permission to work outside my regular hours - absolutely no work on my regular hours now, have to beg for work all the time and my supervisors do not care. I used to make good money, now I qualify for food stamps. I've worked for my accounts for a long time and if this is a sign of what's going to happen to everyone else at the company, good luck.
I love Transcend. Lots of work, sm
great communication, flexibility.
I love Transcend. I've worked for MANY
x
I agree. Hate Transcend but love Robert..nm
nm
I work for Transcend, love them, but right now a few accounts are slow..so depending on which you
were hired for, do not get your expectations too high. The work can flucuate the key is flexibiltiy. If you have to have a set schedule, I would double check on the work flow for your shift on your account. I would hope that they could be honest, and if I know them, they will be.
I work for two companies and love them both
StenoMed and Executive Transcription Solutions.
I would love to hear which companies would pay more.
I applied for several but that was the best I could do.
Welcome! I have been with many companies (too many) for radiology and love Keystroeks. I have sm

been with them for 2 years.  I almost did not go with them because of some negative postings on here but I am glad I did.  Shorthand is the easiest to use and from what you received (foot pedal and adaptor), I am going to assume that you are on the same account or similar to mine as I know that there are two new openings on that account.  If it is CMC, you will love it after you get used to it.  I bought my own copy of Shorthand so that it would remain mine, and it is under $100, I think $89.  The website is www.pcshorthand.com.

Best advice - ask questions if you are unsure.  They are a great group.  Val is in charge of radiology and is very, very nice and helpful.  Ask for her if you need help

Love ExText platform but not sure about companies as I'm an IC. nm
x
I work for 2 diff MT companies and love it
Like you I do not need insurance. I like the differences between the two companies I work for, both have their pros and cons (as any company does),the flexibility is better than being a full-time MT for one company but the flexibility is still limited but it is there...the second company I work for is really really good if you have to flex your schedule...for me changing companies usually was becuase of the hours not working for me, this is a solution that has worked for me for over a year now and I have been a transcriber for 31 years...good luck, do what is best for you!!!
ps with the second company I asked for more money than I was making with the first company and ended up getting what I asked for..GOOD LUCK
Some of the companies that Transcend acquired
DID offer various shift and weekend differentials; TRS did, for instance, as well as a production incentive. These things have been gradually phased out over time; for instance, the production incentive was phased out as of September 1, and for those of us who achieved it more often than not simply had the incentive added onto our base rate.
Let's hear from the MTs that love their companies, their jobs and have a great line count
I love where I work, happy with line count, happy with earning potential.  Love being an MT and working at home.  You???
Transcend, MQ and other companies using voice recognition thoughts .....sm

It amazes me that I'm seeing so much negativity on the board here regarding the new speech recognition programs out there  and the companies using them - and yet I see posts that in the companies using these systems most of the accounts have not been switched to these formats for editing. It appears to me that many of you are fearing the changes and fussing without actually working with the systems to see what it can (and can't) do for you and your productivity.

I've been in this industry since the 70s and remember when carbon paper was replaced with copiers.  Yup, some MTs (back then called "typists") thought they'd be replaced by a copier because they would no longer be typing say a Social Security  Disability Physical 3 times to give all of the copies necessary .... and yet they weren't replaced.

Next computers came out.  "The sky is falling and we'll be replaced by machines" was feared by many.... yet the field is still growing in jobs available.

Some of you old timers may remember programs like Foxx and other word processing programs out there way before WordPerfect was even dreamed of... and when you began typing with those programs you feared your job would be replaced.  Nope, still working all of these years later.

Then came along WordPerfect, followed by Word and now other programs that are better and help you be more productive - without taking away your job.

Face the facts, folks.   Technology is changing and with the government mandate that all medical records be on an electronic format within a few years hospitals have to try to find ways to cut costs to be able to afford this.... and speech recognition is the way to get this achieved.   Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance reimbursements continue to decrease to hospitals so they have to cut costs where-ever they can.   In the 1990s when I worked for a cardiovascular surgery group they would be reimbursed approximately $7000 for a triple bypass, and now they're lucky to get $1800... and yet the cost of running a surgical practice has gone up.

There are now even robots to assist surgeons instead of nurses but yet a surgical RN is still in the operating room, because there are times the robot isn't going to be able to do what is needed for the surgeon.  Are surgical nurses screaming that the sky is falling and they'll be replaced?  I'm sure that some are - but others are realizing that they still have plenty of job opportunities still in the operating room because the computer will be helping them, not replacing them.

The goal of speech recognition programs is to help you do your job quicker and more effectively, not replace you.  Think about that dictator from heck who talks 100 words per nannosecond while eating - the one you think nasty thoughts about the second you see his/her name pop up onto the screen.  I've seen some of these same speech recognition systems produce a darned good draft - and I was able to edit this report much faster than I could have even typed the motor mouth one time, much less go back through 3 times to fill in my own blanks, because the system helped me out on deciphering the jibbery-goo.

The bottom line is this:  You shouldn't knock such systems until you try them.   I've got MT friends who thought they would hate editing and actually love it once they got used to it.

With these systems infiltrating the market you can try to run and hide from them, but eventually they'll find you (just like the copiers, computers and various software programs have).   Another positive is that by companies using these programs that ARE helping keep your job here in the US.   The foreign-based MTs have a much harder time editing reports because they're not familiar enough with the language to easily spot the errors the system makes that the veteran MT would spot quickly.

We'd all love to go back to the days of getting paid 15 cpl for a gross line of work but if you ask around, in the industry the average company now collects 12-14 cpl, 65 character line, for transcription and much less than that for edited reports.  Therefore the high salaries are gone and it's all due to competition.  Back when the going rates charged to hospitals was 22-25 cpl for a gross line the higher line rates were abound, but that has all changed not only in this industry but others.  For example, look at the airlines - used to be that if you flew from New York to San Francisco Angeles it would cost you around $700 and now you can book it for around $260.  That's what competition has done to that industry.  I'm sure that none of you will call Delta and insist that you pay $700 for that flight just to help save the jobs of their employees who are looking at the strong possibility of that airline bankrupting on them.

Therefore I encourage everyone to try new things before you knock them - you just might even like the new things on the market even better, and you'll find your hands and wrists suffer less wear and tear.

Yes, I have checked into and worked for several companies that use Escription and Transcend has the
best pay..now, they just need more work so if you have steady work, then I'd stay put.
Which companies use VR for a platform besides Transcend, Sten-Tel and Focus? sm
Am looking for part time editing job, but cannot load EditScript.  Tried Transcend, but the VR just disappeared out of the queue.  I posted my resume, but just get offers for MT, of which I already have plenty.  Would like to post directly to the companies that use a different platform, if I can find them.  TIA.
Yes, it's totally word based, but it's also totally slow.
I haven't had a very good experience using dictaphone EXText. I wouldn't recommend anyone work on this platform. I don't know how anyone can say this is a very productive platform in any way whatsoever. Actually, it is the worst I've ever worked on. I like Bayscribe, DocQscribe, and many others over this setup.
Love, love, love TransTech! Not overhiring, just growing like crazy!

Did Keystrokes sell to Transcend? I thought Keystrokes was buying up companies sm
but I heard from another service owner that they sold out to Transcend. Anyone know if that happened?
I too love path & can't find it at home & would love to cross-train into rad in the meantime I do

Love this company, love my boss, very informative QA.nm.
x
Transcend bought MDI, so if Transcend sends work offshore, so does MDI. nm
nm
We heard Transcend is buying Keystrokes next. I'm not working for Transcend. No Way !

Does anyone think 41 is too old to go to nursing school. I love MT but I just would love to be a
nurse.  I have such a interist in helping others and the medical world.
Love, love, love DeVenture
Super nice, flexible and just all around nice to work for.
Love, love, love Axolotl
I totally love Axolotl.  Just as A-team said, fantastic benefits.  Yes, strict schedule, but never ever had a problem getting off when I needed to.  I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else.
I disagree with you......sm
I've been working with them since July and have not had any problems with communication or having work available, and I'm an employee.
Have to disagree

I am a hospital employee.  I like the platform, it is basically word.  I am making more lines here than I ever have anywhere else.  I only work on one account.  The equipment is fine, brand new Dell with flat screen.  No problems in particular with supervisors or QA.  Hospital can be picky about things, but it is the hospital, not DK.  Benefits are great through the hospital, very affordable.

DK is no worse than anywhere else, you just have to find what is best for you.  They are working fine for me
