working for another company (which is quite common and really none of their business), allowing them access to your computer for a check might constitute a violation of the other employer.  If they were installing software or updating their files might possibly make sense, but I think someone needs to check into the basis for the computer check.

I don't work there, but I'm thinking of it from a personal perspective and technically when you sign your privacy agreements with companies, you're basically agreeing to give nobody else access to sensitive documents that may be contained on your computer.  Allowing them to access would be breach that privacy agreement I'd think.

Are they looking to confirm there is antivirus software in place?  Computer specs?  If so, there is certainly another avenue they can pursue to ascertain that information.

I'd really think about allowing someone freewill access to my personal computer.  Just doesn't sound right.  Do they have a requirement that you only work for them and nobody else?
