company computer vs. personal

You normally can use the company computer to research anything related to the reports you are transcribing. They will check at some point which websites you visit. You should have received company/computer guidelines regarding surfing the web and what you are allowed/not allowed to do. By using their computer, they can tell you what you are allowed/not allowed to do. I always used my own computer to surf the web whether for research or personal matters to stay out of trouble. Also depending on how good/fast the company computer is, it can slow your work process down immensely. Where I used to work, they would periodically check everything on the computer!

When you use your own computer, I think they can only deternine what else you are doing on your computer aside from your work if you allow them onto your computer. Some companies like to gain access to install their software by their experts. But you can limit their access by only allowing them into your computer after they specifically ask to do so and stating the reasons. If you need to allow them to have access, then sit and watch what they are doing! I believe the only thing they can see through the VPN is how long it takes you to do a report and in which order you do the reports.

Are you serious? Would you like my personal information to check to see if I am lying???
Give me a break...I happen to like working at Keystrokes and if someone asks a question about them I will answer as best as I can...
Could be that you are in a work pool and...sm
...work filters through chronologically in order of TAT.

It's common for companies to put 2, 3 or 4 hospitals in one work pool. Sometimes these are under the same corporate umbrella. You might have 4 hospitals run by corporation ABC - they are in different locations geographically, but in the same pool.

IC, 12 or 24 TAT, work from pool when I am available?
Is this actually offered anywhere? Some days I have plenty of spare time, some days I have none. I would like something to fill the gaps. Any suggestions?
OSi. How's the work pool s/m
The recruiter assured me plenty of work, but I have heard that is not the case.  Wanting to leave my current company, but can't if the $$$ isn't there.
SoftScripts work pool?

Is it fairly steady?  Plenty of work to go around.?

As an IC, I prefer pool work.
I have done pool work and been assigned docs and I prefer working a pool. When I was assigned docs, my lines varied so much. I never knew how much I was going to get each day. Some days I would get over 1500 lines, some days only 500. It made it very hard to plan my day as I never knew how long I was going to have to work. I never made enough money, yet I found it hard to work a second job as some weeks I would be loaded down with work from company 1 and not have time to work my commited lines for company 2, yet the following week I would get very few lines. Working a pool, I know I can get in at least 1000 lines a day every day (rarely have issues on my account with not enough work and usually do anywhere from 1500-2200). I don't have to guess how much I am going to make that day as I am in control of how many lines I take versus someone else sending the work.

Also, as soon as I get up, I can start working (like to start my day around 4 a.m. and be done around noon). I don't have to sit around wondering when my reports are going to be sent to me and waste half the day waiting when the company decides to send them at 4 p.m. instead of the usual 9 a.m.

Also, when only assigned 1 or 2 docs, if they take vacation, you are typically out of work for a week or two with little to no notice (at least in my experience). With a pool, you don't have that problem. If a doc goes on vacation, you have plenty of others to transcribe for. I also tend to get bored easily, so I prefer transcribing for multiple docs. I transcribe for about 15 docs now and I am very familiar with each of them and can transcribe over 250 lph. This would be different though if I was transcribing acute care and had 100+ docs though. But in that instance, pool work is better as it makes TAT faster.

Guess it is good that each company does it different so we can each find what works for us.
I know the MTs that work this acct. load them from a pool. However, sm
I think that is a very good idea - batching docs and/or specialties together.  I wonder why they don't do that, and I am going to ask!  Thanks!  If you saw my post above, there are a total of 37 specialties on my list, made up of approx. 4-5 docs in each specialty, so I'm looking at learning well over 100 doctors in only 40 hrs. of training?  That's a joke.
Have 3 primaries and then go into the pool rarely, but always have work sm
You get 20 different accounts every day? I feel for you. In the beginning of last year, I was doing as many as 15 accounts. Since at least November, I rarely go into the pool. Maybe you can switch accounts?
Fair? Just curious, why does all the work in a pool go to
the same people and some don't get anything except what they can scrap up? Just curious about this
Although I am not in management, I work close with them. sm
They do not offshore. If you have experience, negotitate your line rate. You will get very close to what you want if you are good.

They do work with new MTs, which I think is a great thing for them. Everyone needs someplace to get the experience.

If I had to say one negative thing about them it is this... they are pretty strict on the schedule you set for yourself.

They do offer 2nd and 3rd shift differential. There is also a weekend differential. They do offer further bonuses from time to time.

I personally like their software since it is integrated with Word. It is very easy to use and easy to learn.

Although I am full time, I cannot elaborate on their benefits. I know they have medical, but no dental or vision as far as I know. However, my spouse carries the insurance so that was never an issue for me.

I hope this helps. I know a lot of people do not like Softscript. I can say if you would have asked me 1-1/2 years ago, I probably would have agreed with them, but there have been a lot of changes and they really are for the better of the employee not just the company.
I have never run out of work at Keystrokes, nor have I come close
I have 2 ER accounts, and they both keep me very busy. It is true that they make sure that everyone working there has enough work before they will hire more people. That's why I love them so much.
Not even close. They only have temporary work right now. nm
nm
Do any companies let you specialize rather than work out of a huge pool? nm
nm
Can you say where you work if you get assigned docs/accts.? I'm tired of this pool garbage/left
s
Be prepared to be let go if you don't comply.
/
You need to respond with you will comply with
stating you are now an employee.  You may then be looking for another job, but from what you state, you will become an employee under those demands.
Tell them you will comply with their request
start emailing you every time the well runs dry, stating why that happened and what corrective actions are being taken to remedy the situation. Be sure to emphasize the requirement to inform you precisely when the next reports will appear and how much work you will be able to find on the system at any given hour on any given day.

Sheesh! If it were me, I'd stay put just as long as it takes to get something else lined up and then submit your final email and tell them toodle-loo.
did she say in a pool or in a pool to be CONTACTED?
Are you talking about MxSecure?
anyone work for Acusis?
I already know that they outsource.  I am just looking for more information about this company.
But you DON'T work for Acusis... SM
So what exactly was in Jasper's post that would set off alarm bells???

IF you worked for Acusis, and IF you read today's daily report, you MIGHT be worried about your job security IF you were US IT.

Sorry but there's too much going on with ALL accounts for me, personally, to fall for the Chicken Little thing without something a little more specific...
Anyone work or worked for Acusis? sm
Just wondering how they are as employer? Plenty of work? Productivity of platform, pay average or low?  Thanks in advance.
I ditto these 2 posts. Plus, on a personal/work level (sm)
All of that aside, when it comes down to doing the real work, many old and new MTs at MQ experience multiple accounts with multiple client profiles to read which cuts down on productivity. Even if you get 15 cents a line it doesn't matter if you have to waste time reading CPs and never becoming familiar with one account. JMO also.
Does anyone work at Acusis? Wondering how the atmosphere is there,
xxx
Former DRC/Acusis MTs - Have you found a company as nice to work for (sm)
as DRC with good software, pay, benefits, etc?   Looks like REALLY good MTSO are few and far between.
Cherrypicking is when you work from a pool of jobs and being able to reject the worst jobs to those
,
It is a WORK computer sm

It is their property.  They have a right to make sure you are not looking for another job, surfing the web and chatting, or looking at porn or stupid stuff like that.

They have to maintain a HIPAA guidelines and make sure you aren't breaching confidential information.

I really doubt they are looking over your shoulder as often as you think, they are very busy doing other things for clients too, not just the MTs.  If you are doing nothing wrong, then it shouldn't bother you, it just proves you are an honest employee when you do what your supposed to when they do check.

You work on your own computer. nm
nm
If you work for Webmedx, you are using their computer unless you are an IC. nm
.
My work computer crashed...
after downloading service pack 3.  The remote techs could not restore it and had to send me a completely new computer.  Two days later a company-wide e-mail came out instructing us not to download this program even when instructed to by the automatic updates.  Well, I was out of work for 3 days while waiting for the new computer.  Not a happy camper, but it saved me from downloading it to my personal computer.
You use their computer and you can't use it for anything but work-related reasons
Very stupid and very annoying.
But could you just not turn on computer that day and NOT do the work. Or could you call and say
:+
part time work plus computer
I'm looking for a part time (15 to 20 hours/week) transcription position.  I would like a company that supplies the computer.  I am a CMT with 7-years' experience with acute care basic four plus multispecialty transcription.  Any suggestions?
I wanted to use my own computer and get rid of the RENT on TT computer, but Vista is not compatible.
Good way to make them money.  Not have to upgrade software so that Vista is compatible with Vista.  Huh?
Ditto. Please don't buy a computer for work from this company. I left (sm)
this company because of lack of work.
Well, when I purchased my computer tech support told me Vista would not work...sm
They said that it would work but it would cause a lot of problems because of the way the hot keys are setup on the Vista. They advised me against getting a computer with Vista. So it was very hard for me to find a computer that did not have Vista this year because everything had switched over. I bought a used one!!!! Just so I could avoid problems with my work.

I don't know if this helps or not. Just letting you know what I was told. Good luck!
One more computer question. I got my computer today and
trying to set it up.  Man unpacking the box and setting everything up is a major undertaking; more so for me because I used a laptop before and my desk isn't tower friendly.   Anyway, no info came with the tower and I don't yet have the password to get in (paperwork says to call M-F).  Is the tower WiFi compatible?   My DSL is hooked to a different computer and I wanted to know if I can setup new computer as WiFi or if I need to move modem to new computer and set other computer up as WiFi.
Typing pool
Has anybody out there been in a typing pool and always running out of work?  I find it very frustrating when there is work in the pool and all of a sudden every MT is on line.  By the time you finish a report almost all of the work is gone and you are screwed and not making hardly anything.  Has anybody experienced this?  This month has been so slow it's ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hospital, no pool, just take what's there. nm
nm
no, usually you are in a pool; if they have many specialites....
you can end up on an account where you as the new guy get the ones nobody else wants to do; that happens; I've been there.
exactly. That's why I also mentioned POOL
/
That pool thing ?
Definitely not you.  Probably just the pool of We don't know what we are doing here, we need help but we can't get it through our skulls that we need to hire good MTs which would take the burden off every entity of our organization and then treat them well and pay them fairly so they will stay with us and never create this situation over and over again and time and time again of losing clients, getting new clients, hiring, overhiring, laying off or running out of work.  We simply have not figured out that stopping this repetitive cycle and treating our MTs well would only cause us to be more profitable.  Amazes me that I have never found a company that has figured this out.  I am really surprised with all the mismanagement anyone of them stays in business.  Somehow they do because we all need to work and just put up with it, I guess.  Good luck to you though, its kinda crappy in this profession most days.
Check the archives. Most work done in India, they
have office in India.  I have never seen anything good about them.
Check out the job board for clinic work.
x
I work at Webmedx and am very happy there. Check them out! nm

I didn't get paid, but work as been so low, my check won't be much anyway. :( nm

Yes. Check the # of jobs...0, 4, 21, etc., the words OT are there. The work soon won't be.
This happens often. Yes, it says OT is offered on an account, but there may be 0 jobs available. They absolutely do not owe us any OT at all ever, but it would be nice to get 40 hours in during your posted availability and not have to constantly flex to do so. People have other obligations in life besides Webmedx.
I am an IC, and I basically type from a pool.

The work is available for me to get and return in 24 hours from the time of dictation.  I have come to learn when the work is there.  I do all clinic though.  Some companies require ICs to have set hours, but I don't think that is right.

Of course some companies will ask when you're available, but most that know the true meaning of IC do not care what hours you work as long as you get the work back in a timely manner.

I have my own accounts as well, so that would not apply as far as getting lines because I charge all different amounts.  One is subcontracted, I pick-up and deliver.  IC offers flexibility at least in my eyes.

I don't know anything about Tera Nova - sorry!

We don't have the pool any longer- we moved

A Mexican family.  So, I'm not paying for anything.  The pool installers were American and lazy, broke the filter, and took all day and night and brought theird kids to play on my swing set and requested soda.  The Mexican landscapers required no water, did not ask to use my toilet, and were done in one-half day with a lot of digging and a lot of stone work that would have taken a lot longer if they didn't work as hard as they did in the blazing sun.  The American installers did nothing but cuss, moan, and complain about the heat.

As far as healthcare, we'll be paying more anyway once Hillary gives everyone who can't afford healthcare, free healthcare.  Too bad, Americans are too lazy to work harder and smarter.  I'm all American, born and raised, and I work very hard, but hey if the foreign entity comes along (like it did on my hospital job) and says they can do it cheaper, then what can I do?

Right now, they seem to be pulling VR editors from their MT pool nm
nm
Throw a VR back into the pool?
My company has stated if this were the case, you could be terminated. I do not like to straight type anymore so definitely would not want to throw away a VR report.
