Line padding
When my doc dictates 56-year-old patient, he gets "Fifty-six-year-old patient." Not line padding--just dictating what I hear. Would have been fewer Keystrokes to transcribe "A 56-year-old..."

Words line count is going to be different.
You need to use a program that allows you to set the same parameters for a line as the platform you are using.
Figuring that a line is roughly 10 words, it's 8 cpl pay. nm
,
It used to be that 10 words equaled a 65 count line
and the standard was that each word was 5 characters plus spaces. We are talking 20 years ago, though, and there wasn't such a thing as changing fonts. It sounds as though this company is basing its pay on this theory but not paying for spaces in this methodology. I would take the job as long as they paid me 12 cpl.
Nada...... Can't complain though, great line rate is worth no extra gifts at X-mas. nm

Yes but that means hiring a lot of extra people and paying out a lot of extra money when they can
have SE without all this. Their last report said they are making less money now than before and expect to make less in the next quarter so what does that say. We shall see. As part time employees you would still have to adhere to a schedule and I think people are SE for flexibility at least I am.
You're just padding the pockets of con-artists

WEBMEDX, padding lines? I dont think so!

They will work you the first week, claiming it is training, and by the time they terminate you for their FALSEHOOD that you didn't meet 98% Excellence Criteria (GOD KNOWS WHO INVENTED THEIR EXCELLENCE, it is the Sloppiest transcription rules i have ever seen), then you will lose your entire pay for computer mail back fees and rental of equipment!!

I truly believe they made up their excellence standard so called guidelines themselves, to CUT DOWN ON LINE COUNT.  Seriously, if they can force you to use the number "2" versus the proper way as in "two" or roman numeral "II", they will beat you up about using "2" and say it is their WEBMEDX EXCELLENCE STANDARD GUIDELINES.  What a joke!

Definitely need the Sted's Derm&Immuno Words and a Path&Lab Words to do derm. Lots of weirdness!
s
Sted's Ortho Words, a lab words book, at least 1 drug book, and your AAMT BOS 2nd

I'm fairly new to KS, but I know they are adding
2 new accounts by February, so there should be lots of work.   The account I am on is fairly new and still working out all the kinks, but right now there is a lot of work available on it too, so you might want to talk to your lead or Lee and ask for more work.
Adding a question to yours...
do they pay hourly or by the line for QA?
Sorry. I was just adding to the insults.
I was also offering my own experience with my particular company.  He was pointing out the expenses of the MTSOs and I was pointing out the growing expenses of the MT.  In other words, I was sharing my viewpoint as well.
...all this "stuff" should be in there. I keep adding to it as changes are made, etc. nm
s
If you try adding more than one time the ESP screen
will be behind your other screens. If you minimize them you will see it.
are you adding your names/addresses into
your abbreviation file so you don't have to look up the same name/address twice? That is what I do. With an MD with multiple locations, I will name it something like SmithDown for Dr. Smith, Downtown or JonesLake for Dr. Jones at Lake Forest. You would still have to cut and paste some in the cc field or you might ask operations if there is a way to build a spreadsheet document and add to it as you come across new names/addresses.
Adding, you do have to work the shift SM
you commit to.  If you are wanting flexibility as far as being able to leave in the middle of a shift and make up the time later, you would have to negotiate a split shift with them in the beginning and see if they would go for that.  As far as my experience goes, I did 8 hours with a lunch break and turned in 40 hours per week.  I'm sure if there was an emergency I could have flexed my time for 1 day but if you need flex time every day for picking up kids, etc. you should mention that in the interview and see if they can accommodate.  Once you commit to a schedule it is difficult to get it changed.
what do you mean "toggle over." and what is your formula for adding it up? Help!
nm
Awesome! Thanks for adding to the list!
Really appreciated!
Adding insult to injury
My coffee cup came apart in the dishwater today.
Yes, still hiring. They are adding two more hospitals before the end of the year and are looking
for like another 30 or 40 MTs.
...and perhaps adding a statement to contract before signing
outlining course of action (fines, etc.)in the event. If they have a problem with that - well...

Why is it we do not have our own contracts to present to companies? Two areas of concern - guarenteed work and failure to pay.
Excel logs and adding up job lengths (sm)

This is for the MTs who have to keep an Excel log for jobs and need to add up the minutes transcribed at the end of the day.

I've done some footwork today and discovered a Microsoft page which tells you how to enter times into cells:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/266691

I haven't figured how to automate it, but basically Excel recognizes minutes and hours if entered in the following format:  hh:mm:ss.  So if you have a 5 minute 12 second job, you would enter 00:05:12 in that cell.  Then at the end of the day you enter the formula =Sum and the cell range (the link gives specific example) and it adds up your minutes and seconds automatically for you.

I thought I'd share.  I've been adding my account by hand because I didn't know how to sum with minutes and seconds till now.

We will be adding that feature back, we are just in transition of migrating over to our newer
version of the forum software.  We appreciate your patience.
I wonder what the quality of the work is like adding all those people to accounts. I agree. They
will lose accounts this way and MTs will move on. No one is going to sit around and make no money and then have QA breathing down your neck when you are thrown into all these accounts. So no one listens in New York. What is the problem with them.
What I read was that they opened a center in India BUT were adding work for them and keeping their
domestic work force as well.
A line is a line is a line. Doesn't matter if we are talking about radiology or acute care.

1600 is not a fair minimum requirement.  Sure you can achieve 1600, it shouldn't be the required minimum.

Do they pay extra for OT?
As if I needed any more incentive to apply to this company.
MQ--extra 2 cents

some offices offer extra money for typing after 3pm, after 10pm, week ends, and holidays, and some offices offer this without asking for it

Going the extra mile? sm
IMHO "going the extra mile" means working your BUTT off when your company has a backlog.  Decent companies pay a bonus for doing that anyway.  Then coast when work is low.  If you fall into this cut throat mentality, you're not only hurting yourself but all MTs.  It is possible for companies to balance their needs with the needs of MTs and I, for one, refuse to work for one who can't  (or won't) do this.
Always work, usually all the extra you want too.

No special platform.   Some accounts you can work in WP5.1 or Word, some just Word.  Work is batched so no saving every report.   The only demographics you have to enter is patient's name, all other automated.  Daily QA feedback and QA is good overall.   Use BOS generally, but not strictly - client dictates.

Direct deposit and pay is ALWAYS on time, even early on holidays usually.  No charge for direct deposit.

If you are local can use C-phone, otherwise work is downloaded via FTP.  They provide foot pedal/software but not computer.

IC positions only - but don't know rate.  I've been with them since the beginning and am an employee.  They pay based on gross line though, use Sylcount for line counts and no screwing around with your lines.

They aren't perfect, but most employees have been there since the beginning, little turnover.  They leave you alone for the most part, no IM, no nasty e-mails, aren't calling every day for you to work extra, occasionally offer a bonus.   Schedules are Sunday-Thursday or Tues-Sat, not clocking in.

do any of you do something extra on the side
My hands kill me just about every day now, and looking at my hands i have muscle breakdown and twitching, so i'd like to cut down on typing.  Want to find something to do on the side to earn maybe 1000 to 1500 dollars a month.  Was thinking about ebay, but i'm doubtful I could make that much, even though they hype up the advertisement by saying you could make 3000 MINIMUM.  I'm just desperate and feel like my hands are about to fall off.  I've spent close to 1000$ this year alone in keyboards, gloves, splints, doc visits, meds, changed my station around, hot soaks, cold soaks, exercises, stretches, vitamins. still my hands just sing every day esp at night.  So any extra money earning ideas you guys?  thanks
MDI is asking for MTs to do extra work
Honestly, I do not know where you are getting your info from. MDI is really busy, so that leads me to believe you do not work for us. If you want more work, please call me at the office (or you should have asked your TL). I sent out a mass e-mail Wednesday night asking for help, help and more help.

Hope you are making honest posts. If you are, then I really would like you to call me either at home or at the office. My home number is listed in TT (although most of my MT's have it already).

Thanks,
Liz
Extra Work!
Does anyone know of any MTSOs that use MTs p.r.n. or on our own time?
extra work
I'd be happy to share, just E-mail me. Am not that familiar what I can or cannot put on reply message
But can you work extra
hours if you need them in order to reach your line requirement?
can you do extra if work is available - nm
nm
would you happen to need someone to take the extra
I'd like to get some prn work, or even a bit extra each day, especially on the weekends. If your account would allow it, and depending on the manner in which the files would need to be played, etc, I'd be happy to help. Let me know if you'd like my email addy.
-sede-
Thank you..but no it only spaces an extra...
line between sentences. Instead of each line one under the other it actually adds an extra line space to double it but thank you anyway. I appreciate the help.
That is the BASE ... you get EXTRA for
shift differential, weekend differential, QA percentage differential, and line differential - FOUR on top of the base rate. If you don't work for TT you have no business chirping in. You get paid for holidays whether you are scheduled or not. You rotate Thanksgiving and Christmas, never both in one year. I have been around the MTSO block. Transtech is the BEST. Period.
Extra work at KS?
Do you have the opportunity to work extra at KS?  If you do, do you get paid OT for it?
Extra job security, anybody do this?
I recently took on another job, this one part-time.  I had been working for several months for a company that was constantly running out of work.  This way I can always be sure there will be work in one place or other.  I think in these economic times we have to protect ourselves.  Anybody else do this?  How does it work for you?
Yes, I just wanted a little extra job to help ...sm
because the work has been really slow the last couple of months where I am. But I don't hear anything. Most don't reply at all.
Has any company said thank you to those who have picked up the extra
work for those who are "out of service" from the hurricane?  I have worked my fingers to the bone to keep a few accounts happy, no thanks, no overtime, no bonus.  Guess I am the dummy here.
It means it does not pay extra for paragraphing,
underlining, bolding, new lines, etc., or any of the unseen characters or Keystrokes required to make a certain function, i.e., if you bold the word bold, it is 4 characters + 1 character after the word for the white space, but nothing for the control+B to make the word bolded, nor no keystroke for the space bar, as that is a white space.
This is a lot. When I worked for Transcend, I got a whole 0.025 extra for CMT. nm

There's no extra for that. It's just part of the job more and more lately. And the worst of th

Yup, and there's the extra hours gained
Gives nearly a whole extra day to get the work done because of the date/time line.
