Need help with Wave pedal
I am currently using a wave pedal for bayscribe in my one IC job. I have recently been hired for another MT company as an IC who needs me to use Gear player. Does anyone know if my pedal can be programmed for both or will I need a separate pedal? javascript:editor_insertHTML('text','');
My wave pedal would not work..have 2 under my desk.
Had to buy the compatable pedal for Emdat then ended up hating Emdat....
Yes they do. They will send you a pedal. If you need a computer, just ask.

VR is NOT going to be all accounts or all services. It is A wave of the future not THE wave of the
We have a few accounts on VR and some that tried it and did not like it and some that will never go to it for various reasons.

VR works in some settings but not all. I personally think it will take about 25% of the work in MT but the actual numbers from the technology companies say less than 10%.

That is very encouraging.

Here is another thought. If we need twice the number of MTs in the US to do the current volume and numbers increase consistently, and VR makes everyone twice as productive, we will be better equipped to handle transcription in the U.S.

The offshore companies are not as cheap as they used to be. Their rates are climbing slowly but surely. There are also a lot of reports on CNN, CNBC, etc that say that they are running out of workers in India, Pakistan, Phillipines, etc.

I think we will see a swing back to US MTs and back to being a good field to get into. It will just take a little more time. We did not get to this point in a day.
You won't find a foot pedal at a computer store.
I'd recommend using Express Scribe (google for url and download it for free) and just use function keys to test.  Some foot pedals are interchangeable and work with different programs, some are proprietary and only one foot pedal with work with the software so I wouldn't buy one anyway until you know what you will need.
MDI-MD What kind of foot pedal & computer system requirements do they have?
Thanks for the info!  Happy Friday :*)
I use my own foot pedal. It isn't an EMDAT pedal either, just a regular WAV pedal. nm

Wave of the future, thank MTIA!

If you are incurring OD charges, I don't think sm

you should blame it on the company you work for.  It's you who is writing the checks.  If you have automatic payments being taken out of your checking account, you should ask to have the transaction date changed to a date you know is safe.  The MT should (and I know how hard this is to do!) consider the extra 3-5 days' wait and budget accordingly.  And don't forget to allow for the check to clear, etc.  It's a hassle but if you get the chance to rearrange your bill payment schedule, it might ease up your situation somewhat.  (I'm not specifically addressing the OP, but whoever might be reading this.)

Some MTs think they should get their paper checks on the actual payday and then call their pay late when it arrives 3 days later. I became aware of this when this argument came on the boards years ago.  Some helpful MT explained how payroll works and that seemed to smooth out some feathers.   The MT should be aware that the company CUTS the checks that payday (the company has to be sure it has the funds in the bank to cover the checks, and the company, like us, has to wait for the clients' checks to come in and clear--the beat goes on), and mails them out at that time.  If you want to have your check in hand on payday day, why not get a job in a hospital or clinic?

If you can, switch to direct deposit.  I believe you have total access to your money the day it's transferred to you, depending on the bank you use, I guess, rather than wait for a paper check to clear.  It's a difference between night and day.  But if you do have DD, take in consideration weekends and holidays getting in the way of things so try to budget for that, too.  And never assume you have the money in your checking account!  Call your bank (there is usually a number where you don't have to speak with a human) and get the date of the deposit before you start paying those bills.

Hope this helps.  I never knew anything about this stuff until someone explained it to me.  Knowledge is power.  Yay, Us!!

LD phone charges

AT&T/SBC did the same thing.  I've heard that Qwest and CenturyTel will also stop your service when they discover you are using it for data connections.  I've checked into VOiP but my cable isn't stable enough for all my phone service to depend on it.  I, too, am wondering if there are any companies that offer unlimited LD including data calls on a residence line.

TransTech charges their MT's an

Is that the norm that the MT has to pay for using a company's computer?  I did not have to pay equipment rental fee with MQ or Spheris in the past. Transtech is the first company that I have ever worked for that charged for the use of their computer.

Also, it is one of those monitors that sticks out about 18 inches to 24 inches in the back. Old, I think you would call it. Definitely far from a flat screen monitor.

what an mtso charges
Tell me, if you worked at McDonalds, would you feel it was your business to see their outlay for expenditures, to know how much they pay for hamburger and potatoes and figure out if the food is appropriately priced so that the $8.00 an hour you make is fair?

Being an MTSO is hard... damn hard on some days. The excuses of MANY MTs of I slept late, have an appt, don't work on Friday, have a headache/period/sore throat, sick kid, sick mom, sick dog, did enough for today, hate this dictator, hate this work type, can't use a dictionary or spellcheck.... that ALONE is worth a significant sum.

Not every MT is like that, but imagine if you have 50 MTs and 25 are, what kind of nightmare that would be.

This is not a zero overhead job for someone running a significant number of MTs and the cost of dealing with the MTs stated above as well as a client who is repeately- can't find that, meant to do it yesterday, have 100 docs doing backlog on top of the 12000 lines normally dictated today....

Wear the hat. Once you've done that, then I feel it's your business to know what a bid is going for. Once you've done that, then let's see what you think is fair to pay your MTs based on what you can charge a client.

I've worn that hat and it's why I'm happy as a pig in shit to be a grunt today.
I wanted to use my own computer and get rid of the RENT on TT computer, but Vista is not compatible.
Good way to make them money.  Not have to upgrade software so that Vista is compatible with Vista.  Huh?
question on VR editing, wave of the future ?
it seems that alot of  companies are either there or heading in that direction, before I jump ship looking for greener grass  and consistent work - anybody truly happy working on their VR program?  if I have to get into it, at least I want to get into the right one - can you really double your production?  thanks for your response and help
Companies who transcribe wave files?
Hi.  I am looking for a good company who will transcribe medical wave files and return them completed in 24 hours via the internet.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?   Thanks.
Guess this is the wave of the future, I cant take this anymore...nm

You must be sufferin from some severe heat wave

Ride the wave, yeee haaaa
Ladies lighten up. You really are taking this all too seriously. Our profession is now one that is taking its last swirl around the toilet bowl before being flushed into the sewer of voice recognition and slave labor. If you can afford it, hang on to your daisy dukes, plug your nose, and ride the wave.
Exactly. Rarely have to do it, but like to know that I can if I have to.

CLINIC WORK CHARGES
I DO CLINIC WORK ON THE WEST COAST AND IN NEVADA. I CHARGE 0.14/LINE 65 CHARACTERS PER LINE. SPACES, BOLD, ITALICS, AND UNDERLINES COUNT (I USE INSTANT TEXT TO BILL AND SET IT UP THAT WAY SO IT KEEPS TRACK FOR ME. I HAVE FRIENDS WHO CHARGE 0.15/LINE AND 0.12/LINE FOR THE SAME AND ONE WHO CHARGES 0.17/LINE FOR 60 CHARACTER LINE, NO SPACES. IT DEPENDS. I PICK UP, PRINT, DELIVER, FAX (NO EXTRA CHARGE FOR FAXING) AND STORE THEIR WORK, BACK-UP, ETC. GOOD LUCK.
The account I'm on uses Internet. There are no LD charges. nm

What your boss charges clients isn't
your business. Your agreement is what you are paid for your services.
but youre paying LD charges out of that, right? nm

with 16 years I would suspect you to know the diff. between wave and waive?!?!?

Nothing but nitpicking - very rarely anything useful
nm
No. Very rarely run out of work on my reg (sm)
If I do, like on a Monday morning, I do my #1 backup for an hour or so.  Sometimes when backup #3 is behind, I help out on that.  The others I have only done in a pinch, so I'm not as fast on those and very rarely do them; but at least I know I could if I wanted to.
Why would you never had to type an AB? I think they are rarely done in
an acute care setting, usually performed in a facility just for that purpose.   I think maybe I have done one in 20 years, although I've done several D&Cs for botched ABs.    I wouldn't type them on a regular basis, but not because of my religious values, because of my moral values.
I very rarely have a problem
x
Very rarely have I run out of work.
There are occasions when I don't feel like working in my backup accounts when that is all I am getting, but I have truly never run out of work completely.
tell your friend to file criminal charges - sm
bouncing a check is against the law (except in Florida - where you have to go to small claims court). However, in MOST states (before anyone jumps down my throat) - in MOST states it is against the law to bounce checks and it is taken seriously and the owner CAN BE taken away in handcuffs and the court WILL ENFORCE that they make good on the checks.
SHE CHARGES 13.00 FOR A REPORT AND PAYS ME 5.45 THOUGH WITH ALL THE PASTING IN ETC.

Sad but legal. My sister's employer charges
All support in our state has to be withheld from the paying parent's paycheck. She has to pay $10 each week for her company to do so.

Sad and unfair.
Got all my terrible towels washed and ready to wave. GO STEELERS!

I'm with you - it's very rarely "out of work" for me but (sm)
I've been in this business long enough to take advantage of those times.  It never lasts very long.  It's one of the best companies I have ever worked for, and the support staff is great.  If there is a problem, it's taken care of quickly.  Now with the line counting issues being taken care of too, I'm happy as a clam.
I have insurance through them. It is Unicare. It is less than what my husband's company charges
It is high though, $487 per month for myself, my husband and 2 kids. DH's job wanted $940 per month.
The archive search rarely works for me either.
I'd try browsing through some of the archives and scanning for it.
Spheris is a huge MTSO; how come it is rarely

I do ops for 3 services, but rarely get the heart stuff.

Don't you miss the correspondance though. I rarely hear
from them either, but it would be nice to have some contact from them even if just a how are things going.  It isn't just them, I have found most companies are like that.  After the first week or so and there are no issues with your work you just don't hear from them.
Have 3 primaries and then go into the pool rarely, but always have work sm
You get 20 different accounts every day? I feel for you. In the beginning of last year, I was doing as many as 15 accounts. Since at least November, I rarely go into the pool. Maybe you can switch accounts?
I very RARELY have any sound quality issues
x
I guess I must just be lucky with my account. I rarely run s/m
out of work, and if I do, it doesn't last more than 15 minutes or so. Holiday periods will bring longer periods of no work, but still not very long. I can usually take a break, eat, go outside for a few minutes. I love my accounts, too.

That being said, I do feel badly for those who have to deal with this. In the year or more that I have been with the company, I have run out of work maybe 10 times. My accounts have little turnover, and this may be why. I hope it gets better for those who are having this problem frequently. that must be very frustrating :-(
Clinic notes very rarely delve into
specifics like acute care does. There is a difference.
Dont you have to pay for internet and long distance charges from them because most of their accounts
are not on the internet. I think this is the company.
Yeah, and I can bet that account used to be my primary because it rarely has work now!
nm
That's terrific. I rarely hear that a lone MT gets a hospital
account, so more power to ya!
