...and perhaps adding a statement to contract before signing
outlining course of action (fines, etc.)in the event. If they have a problem with that - well...

Why is it we do not have our own contracts to present to companies? Two areas of concern - guarenteed work and failure to pay.
signing
I would definitely tell them you do not feel comfortable signing this document. They are asking you to get out of your profession for the next year. Tell them I completely agree with signing on not to steal your clients but this is the occupation that I am trained to do and cannot leave this field for 12 months. I would definitley call the HR department and ask how is this fair to tell me I have to leave transcription when thats my job. HOw am i to make a living. See what they have to say. You may want to have a lawyer alter that paperwork so you can still collect your severance. Its worth a try.
Sorry to have said anything. Signing off now.. nm

Signing up
You can email me privately.  I will not post information on this board and I am very careful which emails I reply to.  Too many who are absolutely ecstatic about their company.  I suspect these are the vast MINORITY or newbies just  happy to have a work-at-home job.
Not at all. It is just for signing on to the account. sm
Once signed in, it is the same as any other account. It only takes about 2 seconds longer, literally, to sign in with one.
Yes, don't worry about signing in and out for every little break.
nm
digital signature - how are your doc signing or initialing their notes?

thanks for your reply.

Are your docs somehow signing off on the notes at some point in the process? and if so, how are they doing that?

After signing up for 3 jobs totalling 80 hours a week as well as sm

an IC job for a few more hours, I guess I'm all about change for the New Year!  (ha)  Obviously, I cannot (or at least do not want to) work that much forever, but I have goals, and since I don't see the Pretty Woman fairytale coming true for me or perhaps winning the lottery, the only way to accomplish them is through hard work.  I believe we should change and constantly evolve into the best we can be, regardless of life situations and what beats us down.  I also realize that is easy to say, not always easy to do.

I have been a medical Transcriptionist for over 30 years now, starting in high school with on-the-job training.  I am thankful for having that inhouse experience with ladies who had been doing it forever and having the benefit of their ears to listen, not to mention their patience and caring and being willing to teach me and share their knowledge.  Like many others, I have watched the benefits and wages go down in this field and have felt frustrated, hopeless, etc., but ultimately we are all the captains of our own destiny.

I do not think I have the patience for QA, and I applaud those of you who do it.  To those of you who venture out and switch professions, I applaud you as well for your courage and determination.   To those who are the sole support for a family depending on you, I give you my cudos as well.   I am the only income for me and my doggie, and that is scary enough at times.  I cannot imagine the pressure of having others depend on me as well.

This is ending up a bit rambling.  I think I had a point when I started out.  I suppose I just wanted to thank you for the positive post and encourage others and let them know they are not alone.   Change is a part of life, but together perhaps we can all slog through it together.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

How professional..signing as KS Team Leader and posting about the ex. sheesh

oh no, what is the quota for the day? Please let
us know if it was a mistake, thanks.
QA quota
When I worked at Amphion, we were expected to do 100 reports per 8-hour shift. Most often I did at least 80 which could be a stretch depending on what else was going on so I understand your concern.
OTI gives you a weekly quota. sm
You work when you want during the week. They ask you to commit to one weekend day.

Furthermore, I was on only one account, and worked that same account every day. The work was plentiful. Since I wasn't hopping around on various accounts, I customized everything and made a zillion macros. It was very good for money.

It was the best job I ever worked. I had to leave because I needed benefits.
DSG - QA, line quota, how they pay Qs

Questions for DSG QA folks.  Do they pay per hour or by line?  I heard someone say by the line, but then someone else say they had to give feedback.  I have never worked for someplace that paid you by the line AND expected you to give feedback also.   If it is by the line, do they have a daily quota?

Thanks

cannot make quota

Has anybody out there ever used all accessible shortcuts, typed steadily, and seen after a grueling 8, 9, 10 hours lines equalling approx 77 per hour?    I refuse to think myself as doing something wrong:  Just want to hear from ANYBODY who has done what s/he can, yet finds him/herself always unable to meet productivity.  I am at a crossroads right now so it is a good time to leave transcription, but I cannot believe my forays into at-home land yield the same results:  exhaustion, impossible quotas, and the sneaking suspicion that the nearly-industry-wide policy of not paying for headers is cruel, immoral, and unethical--CONSIDERABLE quality time is spent on getting this info right, and what automatically populates must often be, umm, massaged by our exhausted fingers.  I would love to hear any comments from anybody about how they met productivity.  I would need to increase by almost 100% in order to barely tread water:  I cannot do it.  Just wondering how all you VERY hard-working people survive.  Wish there were an emoticon for throwing in the towel.

can't make quota
I can't make mine, either. A 15-16 minute dication will only yield me about 100 lines. I'm fed up, but scared to death to leave this field and embark on a new career at my age.
Yes I cannot meet my quota
Hope we pick up soon
QA is not a step up. They make less than the MTs and are on quota.
x
Most companies require a certain quota be met
Even as an IC I committed myself to 180 reports a day. I do anywhere from 180-225. I did not sign a contract but did commit to it.
I too made quota immediately
!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your help, but I don't think I could ever meet the quota needed. sm

I am working all the time editing/fixing and trying to remember all the rules for each account.  I do not see with the way the platform is ever being able to make the amount needed to keep my insurance, and they have already extended my insurance for me before.  I thought when I started doing more editing I might be able to get more lines, but then I would have to do double the lines, and with the way the reports are looking when I see them there is too much fixing to ever get there.  It looks like when the computer does not know what the doctor is saying in plain English it just types whatever it wants.  It is actually amusing how it comes up with a whole sentence of unrelated words.

THANKS! Now as soon as I make my line quota
and can afford something other than thrift stores or Walmart I WILL check them out. LOL

Seriously, thanks for the link. I will keep it.
Are they giving you grief over not making quota?
x
I work at a hospital and we have a quota of 15 per hour which is 120 per day. nm
nm
The problem now is that I have a QUOTA and that is what they're concerned about. nm
,,
No, they did not just raise the minimum at TT. The quota is 5500 per week for FT
and I have not had any problem whatsoever reaching it.

Good luck.
You will not lose benefits for one time missing quota.
Call your ROM or TL, and they will point you in the right direction. I think you have a full three months to make up your quota.

Transcend is a wonderful company. E-mail me if you want further information.
MDI-MD hires part-time, and you have a 24-hour window to do your quota. nm
x
Considering some companies do give a weekly quota, maybe you shouldn't speak

I love my job but I think I lost my insurance benefits. Has anyone else not met the pay period quota
one time and had their insurance taken away? I think it happened to me. I fell short this payperiod on my time ($90) as I was ill for a couple of days and had no PTO time to use. Now, my insurance premiums were not taken out so I am afraid they canceled my insurance, which was the largest reason I have stayed. I needed the good insurance etc..not to mention that I just like working there and my supervisors. I did make more than enough for them to have taken out the premiums so I feel like this was just an excuse to cancel it. Now, if I have to wait another 120 days to qualify again, I will have to end up quitting and that is not a great feeling, but I know I can get a job somewhere else and not have to wait so long to have insurance again. I'm just sickened. I can't believe they would do this in one pay period. I work 7 days a week usually, all hours of the day and night and I just can't grasp they would do this. I have worked there over 2 years. So, do they really do this, for anyone who has had this happen before. Maybe, they are just suspending the insurance this pay period but I don't see how they can stop it one pay period and start it back in 2 weeks on the next pay period. Anyway, stressed out!!!
It's in their contract, which they sent me. NM
.
Anyone know who has contract for...
Community of Ventura in CA...used to be M/Q but they lost it a while back and I loved that account, even the ESLs..worked on it for 5 years and I put out tons of work for them day after day....wish I could get it back....anyone working there?
If it's in your contract, yes... sm
I checked with my attorney a few weeks ago as I am going to soon be going to IC status. They can have you contract for a certain volume per day, completely legal. It has to be in writing. As an IC, you also are not guaranteed work, however, so if there is none, you're out of luck and $$ for the day. Unless of course you are lucky enough to have a clause in your contract that says you still get paid for being available.

They cannot tell you when you have to do those lines, but can tell you when the deadline for them to be done is. Most ICs I know specify that they can work Xday and approximately x hours or x lines or they contract to a volume per week, but hours are up to them as to how they plan to get those lines done.
I wonder how their contract
would hold up in court. Hmmm
Why? what's in the contract?
can't you be more specific?
Looking over their contract
I've actually been hired, I am just looking over the contract.
a contract is a contract...sm
and all its contents therein. Therefore, if it was NOT in the contract, that contract is void. Now, would you continue to work for a company like that?
MDI-MD CONTRACT?
As a statutory employee/independent contractor for MDI-MD do you have to sign a contract?
What does your contract say?
Isn't it usual to have to wait 2 weeks for the first paycheck? This also means that some day you will get a paycheck 2 weeks after you quit working there. Are you paid twice a month or once a month. You should have something in writing (contract) regarding this. Wherever I have worked and whether as an employee or an IC, I have always had to wait 2 weeks to get paid, so maybe you should check that first in your contract before you just don't work. If you are an employee, then you should have something in writing too that shows how this is handled. I also just noticed in your message that you submitted your first timesheet after working there for 3 weeks so maybe you get paid only once a month, which means you will have to wait till the end of September to see money. Just check the documents you have, and I am sure you will see something that explains this.
Did you have a contract?
That's something that should have been addressed in the contract. If it wasn't, you can do whatever you'd like to do.

I used to charge for keeping records as storage. Nuttin's free :)
Correct -- Got my contract right here ...
as a SE, MQ is required to take out FICA (SS) and can take out Federal taxes.

Individuals are responsible for state taxes.

Do you have a contract? If so, does it state
when you will get paid? If you don't have a contract get one. If it states you will be paid by a certain date call the MTSO and ask about payment.  I'd give it one week after that and if no payment no work.
contract worries

they have a contract that has the wording saying they can deduct money from your pay for work that needs to be edited.  I didn't like that so I didn't sign.

Unless you have a contract with one of them forbidding it, sm

buy all means you are free.  Years ago, most of the nationals had ICs only and had contracts stating you couldn't work for one of their clients for a period of one year, etc.

If you are an IC, what does your contract state?
They can get into real issues with the IRS when they tell an IC what they are going to pay if it's a contract violation - that is treating you as a SE which affects the taxes they have to pay. So go back read over your contract and see what it says about notification of pay adjustments. Good luck - rotten thing to happen right before the holidays.
I had my attorney look at a contract also
I was asked to sign a really outrageous one.... not for Sten-Tel. I don't want to mention the company. It's hardly ever on here and I think I was the first and only person asked to sign one. Basically making me a slave with varying pay and other horrible things.
Didn't you have a contract with them? nm
nm
Yes, had a contract and filled out sm
a 1099. Received checks without taxes deducted. All of a sudden deducted taxes, and told me I was staying employee like it or lump it. From what I read on these boards, this company is always low-balling someone.
Have you signed a contract with them yet? sm

I haven't even set up a time to train yet but I just faxed my contract in this morning and I am supposed to get my lanier sometime next week.  I guess I probably pestered her; I would rather say I was persistent : ).  I had another company with an offer standing and I didn't have time to wait around and let the other one slip by in case things didn't work out.  Luckily, they did and I am very happy with my choice.

I know they contract with Spheris. nm
xxx
contract not always honored . . .
This happened to me, after several times of not getting paid in a timely fashion, even adding it to the contract didn't matter. I was working for the state I live in!!!!! They paid me when they darn well felt like it. Just warn the others is really all you can do.
Pay schedule contract
It is noted on the labor board web site - if you are given dates of pay they have an obligation to within a reasonable amount of time to send payment - reasonable being mailing of checks - as an IC you are a business - notify them of what they owe - and tell them effective immediately late charges will be added. I agree contact all you can and send the bills to the credit agencies and have it on their credit report - they can be found on line. You are a business, what happens when you do not pay a credit card on time - you get late fees -sock it to them and get your money - stop thinking as if you are employee - you are IC - treat them as a payor who does not pay their bills.
