Serving Over 20,000 US Medical Transcriptionists

Something to think about. Making it impossible for those of us that do NOT mislead anyone will forc

Posted By: MTSO on 2008-07-23
In Reply to: Very ingenious smart move. - Very best wishes.

Why are transcriptionists making it nearly impossible for us to find good, reliable, loyal employees? One more reason to consider offshore employees. They NEED to work to eat and SURVIVE. They do not pull temper tantrums or try to pull a fast one.

I have 8 employees that I treat well but I do not doubt that all but 1 would turn on me if they thought someone on the next block was offering something better.

Less time complaining and conniving would be more constructive and everyone would benefit.

There are two sides to this argument, but no one wins. We should try to work together instead of against each other.

Too bad they mislead their clients about it
That is what is so rotten about the whole thing, the hospitals think the work is all being done in the US when it is not.
Please DO NOT mislead the MTs in California
You might want to look this up before you resume doing business in California:

http://www.edd.ca.gov/Jobs_and_Training/Layoff_Services_WARN.htm#How%20Do%20I%20File%20a%20WARN%20Notice

It's my belief that California also has bumping rights based on Seniority. As I understand, if the person(s) who laid off people for no reason at all (which violates the covenant of good faith and fair dealing under California law and for termination in violation of California's public policy which defeat the at-will employment in California) lacks seniority at the company, then he/she can be bumped off by someone with higher seniority than him/her and with equal or more qualifications than him/her at the company.

In such a case, that person(s) who started the unfair layoffs would just be waking up a sleeping enemy!

I feel your pain. I was mislead about TT very badly.
There were nothing but praises and I was new to this board and all boards in general. So, after watching for a long time and asking questions etc. I took the job at TT. I stayed for a while but in the meantime I went broke, question myself, because of all the praises continuing here. It took me over 1 year to find 2 good jobs to have (to make up for money lost and I will never be brok again) to replace that awful one. Believe it or not the 2 jobs I have, 1 is highly praised here, but I only keep it part/time because it isn't all that; and the main job where I make the big money is most times trashed here. Probably in the big job the upper management does not come on the board and put false praises. Actually there are very few responses but some are negative, probably from disgruntled workers. I still come here because I like to see what is going on with MTs and the MT world, but I have to say I agree with you 100% about companies using PR falsely to lead people down a bad path on this board. I do not blame the board admin. There is the post about not making decisions based on posts here, no doubt they figured it out and they also stopped the paid sponsors so that they did not have to pull negative posts as in the past. This is an anon board, so really you have to use care, as in life, and seek out real-life references as well. I am with you, though and the lying will be stopped if Karma is at all true.
At over 10 cpl, it is not impossible!
x
It is not impossible. I do it every day.
I have never hard trouble meeting the minimum line requirement and I've been there 7 years. My lines have fluctuated sometimes when I have to do work that I'm not familiar with. However, I have very nice line counts most of the time.

Impossible...nm
nm
Just say NO. At 3 cpl, it's impossible
to make $20/hr unless you just rush through and send garbage... VR takes too much correcting for them to be paying so little! GEEZ.
It is almost impossible to do unless you have MTs that are guiding you. sm
You will not have the know-how about work flow, QA, TAT, etc that is necessary. Find an MTSO that is willing to help you with pricing, pay, etc. We are all pretty much the same. You can email me if you want or try one of the mid-size companies. I am actually much smaller than what you are taking on, with only 28 employees. You might want to partner up with one of the mid-size ones to make it run smooth. Worth a try if nothing else.
Because the ones at OSi are full of ESLs that are about impossible...nm
z
It is nearly impossible to do a comparison when posts
which even mention brand x, with no discussion involved, are restricted or removed. I think at one time or another most of us have worked there.
Doing our job is stressful, but being perfect is impossible....
There is such a thing has high expectations, but when it goes beyond that.....
if it's an impossible report for one to do, then it should go to someone more familiar with the d
x
Does anyone else find it near impossible to follow

I'd getting dizzy.  I can't seem to be able to follow who is replying to which comment.  I think I am in the right place, but then the comment below doesn't make sense with the comment above it. And I think people are getting upset because the response does not match the comment and someone thinks they are being dissed.  Sometimes it looks like they are agreeing with something but then when you read the rest they are actually disagreeing.  Sometimes when I post I think it will end up below one post and it ends up below someone elses. Is it just me?  Or maybe when there are this many replies people should just stand back, let it drop, and not provoke anyone else by accidently having a reply end up in the wrong place.

Yes and you'll go broke. Impossible

You'll spend 30 minutes on a report trying to decipher the horrible dictators and you'll be lucky if you make 30 lines in that time.

impossible? its 127 lines/hour.
nm
No, it is not impossible. I get 11 cpl and work M-F days, IC status. nm
x
Sorry. I know our QA people have to have so many reports done per hour and it is almost impossible
to do that plus all the other things put on them besides so a lot got sick of the stress and quit. They have monthly reviews to do as well so they are constantly stressing so who knows how the quality holds up for QA as well as MT. Seems like quality is secondary anymore to low cpl and the amount you can throw out. Hospitals that I always thought were fussy are now sending work offshore.
Yeah, if you want to look up demographics that are impossible to understand, & get paid for
If you don't mind being nit-picked to death and QA'd into the ozone, go for it.
So you believe offering 2 options to clients is impossible? It's pretty cut and
dried to me. You offer Option 1 as a money-saving low rate with offshore transcription and editing. Sorry, we can't guarantee quality, but hey, you save big bucks. You then offer Option 2, quality-minded American MTs and editors, the gold standard. The rate is higher, but so is the quality of the work. Of course, you then have to make sure you hire only those who can actually maintain high quality.
You are probably right though. It wouldn't work as there no doubt are far too many companies already offshoring without the client's knowledge reaping the benefits of using low-paid foreign workers with nondiscounted line rates. Silly me.
Ok - here ya go. I went from making $1800 per pay period to making just under $900.
Is that significant enough for you? Believe us, we are not just being negative with a grudge or anything like that. This is real! A month later, I was gone from there fast!
they are making a lot of changes....
This is the first I heard of it also and I found out by logging on and all the sudden have all new work types. When I inquired as to why this happened and was told it was part of the "MQ compliance team" (whatever!). Later on that morning, I received an email stating that the first change made was to rank the MTs by classification: Level 1 - ER/clinic notes, Level 2 - ER, Clinic, Progress notes, H&Ps, DS, Consults, Cardiac notes, PT notes (everything except radiologys and OPs), Level 3 -everything including radiology and OPs.
how much are you making, cpl

what are you making, cpl. ect.

It is b/c OSi is making changes
Positive changes...and that scares the daylights out of everyone else.  Yes, they have made a few mistakes, but who hasn't?  I am with you here.  I never had a single problem with OSi until I came to this board and then I found out just how sucky my job really is.  So, why wasn't my job bad before?  It is a pitty that I had to come here to find out that OSi employs only the worst.  I make a lot of money and I don't leave my home.  I have a wonderful AC too and I love the people that I have actually gotten to talk to on a day-to-day basis.  What more could I ask for?
I'm currently making more than that, but have been
looking around, testing the waters.  I ace the tests, they call 2 and 3 times offering me different things, but never enough money.   I have even been offered 7 cpl as an IC.  My point was that experience doesn't necessarily count for anything these days as no one wants to pay you for it.
Where are you making $120 a day, can I ask?
That's pretty good.
I will be making 9.5 cpl
They offered me 9.5 cpl right off when I was hired last week for an ER account.
making fun?
saying - Having a laugh - is not making fun - it is a comment - not like are they kidding, could not get a coffee for that etc. They do not belong here.
but I am sure if you are concerned the moderator can give you the information so you can apply.
I was making ...
17.00 a hour.
She's making more
than I am right now at my company and I have 15 years of experience and she has about 8 or 9. From what I have heard, it's at the top of the pay scale for most companies out there and you get paid half of your typing rate for editing which is a lot more than I make editing. All I can say is 15 years in this business, they pay very well and that is why I'm applying for a job with them.
Are you saying you re making 0.075 MORE than before, or
they are giving you that which is more than you made before? 0.075 more a line is hard to believe.
I was making 16/hr when i was QA
x
The ones who are making $125,000
aren't the ones I have a beef with, it's the ones with millions in income and they pay less taxes than someone making $40,000 to $50,000.  $125,000 doesn't give anyone enough money to take advantage of the tax hedges and loop holes that go only to the wealthy, especially if they are mortgaged to the hilt.
Please....you'd be making those
wages no matter what. Find a profession that will pay you more and quit blaming those of us who do our job every day without complaint. You all seem to have excuses why you aren't making money. Find another job where you can sit there and work in your bathrobe, chat on the phone whenever, peruse the internet, throw some laundry in when you want, not have to pay for work clothes or gas, not have to deal with lousy weather or traffic and can be home with your children. And yet you still want to make the big bucks and get all the perks. Why not find something else that will pay you what you think you deserve? Yeah, my DH has a good job and pays the bills....sorry if that offends you. I do this job because I love it, not to become rich from it. Be thankful that you have a job during these lean economic times. Don't blame me because you have no ambition, drive, incentive or guts to do something else with your life.
Are you making more than 5 cpl? (nm)
nm
You were only making up to 2 cpl??
My VR pay is 4 cents a line and 8 cents for straight. I do not use Dictaphone there, there are other systems besides just that. I have no drama, monitoring software? Know nothing about that. I love it personally.
She said that making up 2 cpl could be
time consuming.  She didn't say she was making up to 2 cpl.  lol
I'm not that bad yet but I was making
more than my daughter-in-law who is a nurses' aide and works at the county hospital, but now she's making more than I am, and her health insurance is only $100 a month for a family plus she gets a raise every year.
Then they are not making much of
I make 10 cpl, and if my company is charging 16 or even 18 cpl I don't see how they could stay in business. The bonus structure benefits them because the more productive MTs are, the fewer people they have overhead for, but still...
Are you making more/less/same now as
you were 7 years ago at MQ? My pay has decreased due to the changes.
I think they are GREAT! Making better $$ now than ever!
nm
Have you been making less than $16/hr for 11 years?
I hope not.  If so, poor you after 11 years!  If not, you better get ready for the pay cut.
HOW MUCH DID YOU MAKE AND HOW MUCH ARE YOU MAKING NOW?
I am thinking about making the switch!
It's my job. Dah! someone making a type? Did you mean
typo? Maybe you should proof your work. You are an embarrASSment to the community!

Oh, and when I said proof, I didn't mean 100 proof!
They're making themselves look bad.
I clicked on jen has a big nose and there's an ad there for OSI.
Anybody having trouble making
Amphion?  I have been with them 3 months and still have not hit my 1200 line goal. Would like to know if anyone else has had this experience.
making money
I meant to say that I'm frustrated not making money where I am working, and wondering if it is possible to make money at Breitner?
Why are you not making money?
Is there no work?
making money

I'm not working for Breitner at this time. I'm working for T. I have work. I simply hate everything about this company.

I've read the posts about not getting paid at Breitner, but has this happened recently?

Is there a good paying job with good benefits anywhere?

Thanks for the answers.

I'm sorry, desertbloom, I'm not making fun of
visual in my head of two kids wanting the same ice cream cone, going, that's mine, no that's MINE, no gimme that, no go get your own!

Actually that visual helped me relax from a stressed morning so thank you :)
Well the point I was making
is that the industry is changing so rapidly (positives and negatives) that the corporate mentality is prevailing with regard to job enlargement at same rate of pay. Obviously we all have a choice of where to draw the line...
