In Reply to: Not necessarily true. That is not a true test of skill. - sm

Some of it was stuff you'd never come across in 20 years of doing this job, not even once. lol

Yes, for now. It won't last forever. nm

Been there forever
Be patient with the recruiter.  Send her an email and tell her you're ready, willing, and eager to get started.  I always have work.  Very professional.  Pay ALWAYS on time.  Just a lot of changes going on with the MT profession in general.  Before anyone says it...I'm not management...just happy MT.
7 or 8 cpl, period, forever. nm

i won't keep this pace forever...
but it is allowing me to pay off my house before we retire, have nice vacations ... live! I got sick of existing and busting my ass is the only way to get anywhere. Nobody is just going to GIVE us life .. you have to grab it, shake it, choke it and then ride it for 8 seconds.
The forever changing AS...

They aren't asking you to do this forever either, are they? sm
Looks like a temporary bind in schedule coverage and you'll be able to take a weekend day off later, after your boss gets better coverage. Doesn't seem threatening to me; he or she is asking for your help.
I've been doing this forever (sm)
I started in-house in 1980 and have been at it ever since except for a brief break in about 1995 when I actually (gasp) missed it. My first company job was with TL in a little office they had in Florida. I hadn't thought about them in years. I hate this business, hate it, hate it, hate it, especially since it has changed so much and is crappy for the MTs now, but it's the only thing I know how to do where I can make this kind of money. I regret ever having gotten started in this business.
Usually a spelling test, a punctuation test, and maybe 3-6 test files to do. Sometimes done using

It's been said in the past that pay stays at 7 to 8 cpl forever. nm

Taking FOREVER to get started
Seriously a month. I'm still waiting for all the logins from the hospital. Not Keystrokes fault but I'm starving here.
Not all managers stay forever with OSI and no ax to grind
:)
Nothing good lasts forever. Follow the sm
account to the new national. If you're a good, nontoxic MT, I'm sure you'll get hired in a heartbeat!

Can you provide us with the name of the new national? You seem to be privy of a lot more information than the rest of us.

Thanks.

Forever, people had 2 jobs, not just MTs. And great
This is what i mean by you pilot your life, your life shouldnt just be floating you thru life.  Over the course of about 2 years, I have made conscious effort to make my life work for me. Figured out what platforms I like, what type accts.  What kind of equipment works best for me, how to efficiently handle docs and files.  In word based platform, I am Speedy Gonzales as far as how I get in and out, how I process docs. Still spend same amount of time on actual edit and type, those you can only do so fast and be correct but all other aspects, I am fast. You find your fit, which is not a one size fits all.  But, working 2 jobs is not the territory of onlyl the MT world. My dad did it while my mom also worked as RN.
I did an acct like that moons ago. It seemed like I was typing forever. Forget it! nm

I typed on a line that long way back when. Would NEVER do it again. Takes forever

Hate the day after a holiday for work -- seems like it takes forever to get my account back up to
speed and getting work available.  Oh, well, I'm just venting this morning because I don't have any work and guess I should be cleaning house instead of sitting on here being frustrated about it.  Have a good one!
That's very, very basic MT! nm

I could see basic four, but all others? I don't

Basic MT course

Hi,

I have already been through a what you call a match box MT school and I feel I need more training but do not need a complete course again.  Do you know any place that offer a basic course in MT that is legit?

Thanks,

MT

Basic course
MTEC has a basic course and a premier course. You can also go on their message boards and ask questions there.
Basic Course?
Medical Coding. Can you work from home. Do you have to have experience before you get a job? I know you have to have experience as an MT before you get a job.

Thanks
You listed the basic ones
Let's not forget about burping, yawning, coughing, sneezing, chewing/eating....... the list goes on.
It is basic four using Softscript. (sm)
I will have to ask about the margins.  Thanks.
No, I do acute care/basic 4 ... so I don't know
about the radiology part, but give it a shot. They've gotten rid of some bad eggs as I understand it, and as long as I've been here, which is under a year, things have been fine.
This is basic medical terminology 101.

She WAS complaining about basic answers.
A direct quote from her post above:

I can't seem to get basic answers to my questions without it being an educated guess or noneducated for that matter!

There are a lot who also do not know basic English skills. Example: (sm)
the difference between their, there, and they're.  Affect, effect.   Basic skills of sentence structure.  Just knowing some medical words does not make you a good MT.
Acute care basic 4
Yes you can. I have to go at a slow pace because of arthritis in my hands and I still get a decent line count. Wish I had the speed I used to have, I would really be making it big!
all this to yes, yes, yes pertains to basic 4, not radiology.nm

What is the basic 4? Does it include op reports? NM
:
She wasn't complaining about getting basic answers - sm
She was talking about posts that assumed she was pregnant and looking for a job when she clearly stated that she was planning on a family in the future, and not currently pregnant.
I wouldn't do it. One of each basic 4 types or a few clinic
s
I wonder why they keep advertising if there is no work. Are you doing the basic 4 or clinic. nm
:
Following basic grammar is nit-picky? Maybe I misunderstood.

BOS is a crock. Basic grammer/spelling all that is

Which company offers the best basic pay for Proofers.
what is best matched in industry
That one I know :-) That is your basic rate/line count earnings sm

before any differentials, bonuses, incentive pay, etc.

I also have not received my cable reimbursement.  Guess I'll have to call and ask Debbie.

I do ER and basic 4 work and make excellent money
NM
I took a test for a company and my foot pedal would work with the test and I had keep going back
over the dictation time and again to get all the words because I couldnt stop and start it by the foot pedal.  What can I do about this.
Basic word books, spellchecker, expansion software...$450/500?? nm
s
She includes ER in acute care, so I guess that would make it Basic Five :) nm

Not to my knowledge...nm

I have some knowledge..
How long have you been there and why are you not happy there?
OSi and knowledge
I think that many of you who challenge the skill level of those working at OSi are full of sour grapes.  I think just like any company OSi has a variable learning curve of skills in both MTs and Editors.  Everyone comes into their job from a different knowledge base, whether it is formerly working in-house, formerly working on a clinic account or just out of school.  I think all of us need to be more tolerant and help others move on an upward curve rather than a downward one.  By the way, I love working for OSi and I have been there for almost 4 years now and I have always found everyone to be helpful.
To the best of my knowledge
everyone has been paid. Don't know why no one else has posted this fact. It is notable that no one posted the company's name, which I think suggests a certain loyalty as they have been a very responsible employer.
To the best of my knowledge sm
They have everything traditional on Extext. Some ASR is on eScription, some on Nuance. Standard XP computer is fine and Word 2000 or 2003, and I didn't read the ad, but whatever they said.

You'll love it, I sure do.
Not to my knowledge, but I don't know everything that goes on. sm
I do know that I have a great account and can get 300 lph, so the money is good. cpl rate is better than most as well.
Just took the test myself. No actual dictation to transcribe. Just a written test.
For 13 cpl, I might do it if the dictators aren't a total horror.
I just took the test today - thought it was a great test of MT skills.

Putting out the word, AccuSTAT Wisconsin is hiring for Basic 4 - Ops. They have their webiste up

and now offering direct deposit.   This is a great company to work for.  It is not associated or affiliated with any other AccuSTAT nor does it have branches anywhere outside of Wisconsin.  The MTSO is very responsible, professional, and caring, which is something that you can't really find around anymore, including flexibility, something a lot of us look for, especially those of us with children.   There is plenty of work and you use  Softmed aka Chartscript headers and a C-phone to transcribe.  The dictators are great and very little, if any, ESL, and those do speak very good English.   I have been with this company now for 6 years, and I can assure you that I would not  think of working anywhere else.  Flexibility, pay on time, direct deposit, good dictators, and a responsible, caring, and professional MTSO are on the top of my list!

The basic 4's are: history and physical, consultation, operations, discharge summaries. sm
Radiology is not one of them. Sorry, but I don't have an answer for the strictly radiology question.
