Ho-hum, it never ends.
And exactly what is it about the board policy that you don't understand? There are so many people on here who seem to know everything, but obviously can't read well enough to abide by the no bullying/harassing policy. Is it really such a hard habit to break? Sad.

QA oversteps their bounds, they interpret things the way they like to interpret them, and they hate being told on.  So, let's just admit that as an MT we try our best to make it all jive, follow client specs, and meanwhile make a living.  All we ask is that QA have an open mind.  Not everyone is exactly alike.  I can say that I have argued QA myself and won.  I will not be bullied by a QA person just because they feel they have an upper hand.  We are all in this together.  To simply state that an MT needs to work on it when the client spec does not tell the MT what to do and then the MT gets a bad grade is just plain ridiculous.  Without the MT, there'd be no QA, so let's get real!

Usually pay period ends on the 15th and last

day of month.  Then you get paid somewhere around the 22nd for pay period ending on 15th and get paid around the 6th for pay period ending on the last day of the month.  If you work as an IC you may could expect pay one day after submitting an invoice, but if you work for a company it takes time to process payroll and then if DD it has to be submitted and it takes more than 1 day for that. 


When I worked for KS took me almost a month to get my first check. 


If you file the SS-8, there are consequences on both ends - sm

You will be asked to refile your taxes for the period in question.  This could help you or hurt you depending on your situation.  Things you were able to deduct fully may not be fully deductable as an employee or rather than a tax credit, they are now tax deductions which can at times help you or hurt you. 


I had a determination for a five year period and it was a wash.   There were also no penalties on my end.  The company on the other hand, did incur huge penalties and interest.  In the end, the only one who really gained was the IRS.  The company i worked with is now defunct.


There is no big windfall to the IC so if you hear of anyone who tells you they received a huge chunk of change by filing the SS-8, I'd think long and hard about believing it.  It may be possible, again given their tax situation, but highly doubtful. 


Listen, you know if you are being treated like an employee or an IC.  You have a choice - continue your working relationship if you are generally happy, or move on and find a better fit.  This has been going on for decades - control by the MTSOs and compliance by the supposed ICs, but I dont see anything changing anytime soon.

Are you dense people? You are expendable and someone will be glad to work the weekends. No wonder most of you are in low paying jobs you are afraid to leave, you can't aspire to anything more! Women are crazy. How many male MTs are there who come here and complain on a daily basis?
Sounds to me like this vulture of a company
and is trying to cash in on the goods! Don't do it! Just when you thought people couldn't sink any lower....like the Heartland scum......you get vultures trying to take advantage of someone and kick them while they're down....makes me sick!!!!!!!!!!!

They pay 5 cpl, charge you if you send reports to QA, and only pay once a month. Also, someone posted an article about the owner below that was in BusinessWeek. It states how much debt she is in cuz she's not aggressive about making sure her clients pay her. Also, she charges 12 cpl, but then only pays the MTs 5???!!! Why would anyone work for a company like that?

But I am more and more afraid of how long that will last with insurance and bills going up and wages staying the same or going down. Scary times.

Actually that's sounds like something the company bully would say.
They let other personal issues bleed into their work environment and feel they have the right to bully all the MTs they can, because they want everyone to be as miserable as them. There is no room for rudeness to anyone by anyone. Thankfully I work at a company that would never tolerate that bad attitude and people treat each other with respect. It is very refreshing.

They never respond to calls or e-mails and, when they do, it shows they never understood the question or problem. LOL.

12+ hours a day, 30 yrs exp, and can't make ends meet?
How many lines do you type in that 12+ hours a day? What is your line rate? Get incentives?

Even if you typed 100 lines an hour, that's 1200 lines a day at 8 cpl that would $96 a day.

What in the world are you paying for rent?! lol

Payday is 9/3 (but believe that is the holiday so not sure how that works). Pay is every other week on Mondays, so the following PP will be paid on 9/17. PPs run Mon-Sun. HTH

There are labor laws in the United States, right? I have been an IC and MT, never an MTSO or subcontractor, but my husband has, and when he subbed out work or had temporary workers, he had to file 1099s for them at the end of year, etc. We can't even employ nannies off the books anymore in the USA, right? Second, on reading the OPs follow-up posts, something is way sharky about the OP. Not an innocent newbie at all, by the tone of things. Now he/she is running radio ads? Working getting paid twice what they should be? Whatever on earth that means, and I'm sure none of us are interested. Just a waste of board space, again. In fact, shouldn't this post be removed, since they basically admit they are ADVERTISING for work?? That doesn't stay on Company board and should be removed. Can someone tattle, please?
I hope I'm a patient whose care ends up
being compromised by all this 'robot transcription' cr@p. Then I'll find me a good lawyer, and sue, sue, sue my way to a happy and wealthy retirement.

I do FT.   I'm 17 hours short this week.  Fortunately there is plenty of work today, my day off.  I won't be able to get any overtime but hopefully I'll be able to make up most of those 17 hours.

I agree; I was scared to death to make a change, but the opportunity to work for KS just fell in my lap and after a rough (slow) start I can truly say I am glad to be working for them.

I was kind of impressed by the year-end survey, which came to me shortly after starting. I like that kind of proactive approach.

it.  The company in general is also very, very strict on QA, so there's never a relaxed minute as the newbie on the block, and the cliques! Its cruel. I feel like I'm in school again, getting left out and laughed at and even set up for failure.  There is always someone calling out sick, etc., as you describe, and I am told I always have to be the one to cover due to seniority, or my lack of it.  Its so upsetting that I'm just about to throw in the towel myself.  I'm sorry I can't recommend anyone other than MQ QA, but I heard they are no longer hiring QA staff.  They used to pay really, really well and the conditions were fine.  Best of luck to you.

is pretty standard industry-wide.

Disillusioned....Sue's description sounds like the company you just left
except for the rental fee, which they JUST changed recently, and even then it was higher than the one Sue quoted.  I still say you got a much better deal with Amphion.
This drama NEVER ends! It is SOOOOOO scary, and so boring at the same time!
Now Lee will come on, with an empassioned plea to please call her, and yada, yada, the misunderstandings. This person left, or that person left, or now a new bolt of lightning. It is getting ABSURD to have this regurgitated at least weekly on this board!  Same old, same old. I would NEVER work for Keystrokes, and can't imagine anyone falling for this saga and applying.  Something is VERY wrong in KS land.

This company sounds great, but they don't accept satellite users. :(

Other than that, from what I can see, they provide equipment/software, etc.  Sounds like a really great company.  I would apply if they could look over the satellite situation. I have had no problems with three other companies using satellte.

at 1,100 lines per day, but I am not sure what the rate is. You can email them and I am sure they will get back with you. They were helpful when I was hired.
Not really. The pay is what they tell you but not everyone starts at the same sm
level. It is based on the account, the type of account, the platform, the hours, your experience. The communication is great but some people do not understand that it can take a few days to back to someone; there are a lot of things going on at the office. The workload everyone agrees on because they really work hard to make sure that you have enough work. Health insurance? No surprises there either. They have Unicare, which is OK but not the best and expensive but no more than most other companies. In fact, my husband's company and my sister's company (neither are transcription jobs) have much more expensive insurance. KS is working on it but they keep us up to date as they find out information.

Are they perfect? No. No company is but they have improved steadily without going backwards.

Yes there are other good companies, probably lots of them. Unfortunately, there are lots of bad ones too and most of us have either been burned or burnt out by other companies.

My fear is that the owners will sell KS. Once a company seems to be doing well with happy employees, one of the huge ones comes in and scoops them up; is this their way of eliminating their competition?

Because I know that's the answer I was given when I questioned way back why my count never matched up to what I'd get when I counted characters extended in Word and divided by 65. Supposedly a certain percentage was taken off for headers/footers because we don't get paid for these, but even counting those and deducting, it's still taking off way more than the headers and footers would account for. I really don't know why I stay.
Everyone starts at 8 cpl now and can go up to
9.5 cpl after 90 days based on difficulty of account and quality of work.

No matter how much experience you have and they are now using eScription and that da**# VR and they pay 3 cpl for that.  You have to type like a certain number of lines to move up to the highest pay of 0.09 cpl. That is retarded!
So what happens if everyone starts doing
the same.  Seriously, do you think a transcription company has tons of work to go around and chooses not to spread it around?  Not likely.  Chances are, the MTSO had very little work on that account and instead of it going to first come, first serve, she demanded it be routed to her because if not she would quit.  I think I'm just going to start demanding things, too.

October 15th or November 1st. The account is going to need 25-35 MTs to run smoothly, so it will be a nice one!
This is how misinformation starts
Do you know for a fact that this is happening at this company? Do you work there? Just because someone asks a question on this board that really should be asked of her superivisor doesn't mean that the company is doing something wrong. This is an example of how the negativity on this board spreads and perpetuates. Many people on this board are mighty quick to jump to conclusions, and it can be very misleading.

I am wondering if the message regarding Spheris, stating that should they want an MT to go, sabotage of their work may take place, could be elaborated on.


It is important that I stay with this job.  I have BC and ins. is an issue and honestly, I love it.  But, it is very stressful for me to work under these conditions. 


If I thought that there was a possibility that the more hostile arm of my management team could retype my work to include an error that would place the patient in jeopardy, just so they could get rid of me, I would take action now. 


I would like to know if ex employees who left with heavy hearts would e-mail me confidentially and anonymously to let me know how they came to the conclusion that the sups were brutal and ruthless.
