I see that as poor management. Have they not thought of telling new hires -- sm
the go-live date, and sincing with that?

Sounds to me like they are proceeding with hiring during contract negotiations, and dealing with it later.

Where to us we think they are technically all set up and ready to hand out passwords. uh, and how much commission did that recruiter get per warm body? wonder what percentage of that could wait no longer and found another job.

They're doing it wrong, but there are so many of us - they're covered no matter what.

MHO only

Thank you for telling this experience.
I've worked for companies before where the powers that be have no transcription experience and it wasn't a great experience.  With this information I will take them off my list of possibilities.  If a long time employee shared all of this I think the writing was on the wall.
I'm just telling you my real live experience
director could be considered as showing favoritism by giving the names of doctors to a specific MT or MTs, and the MT could be seen as using their hospital transcription position to their advantage to obtain clinic accounts.
Would you mind telling which companies, especially the SM
9.5 cpl? I love OPs, have been doing them exclusively for several years. Thanks.
Here, here. Exactly my experience also, even down to the 10 year work experience. nm
:+
ditto. just left MQ this year, thought i'd be
there forever, and it just got to be too much crapola. The best to your future anon; lots of us there with you!
Did anyone get a Christmas card this year from QT? I thought it was an oversight. nm

I thought maybe someone else might have had the same experience
rude remarks aren't necessary
Transcend pays for experience and I thought the
They have quite a few accounts.  They are a large company.
almost 1 year experience "newbie"

When I worked for Precyse right out of school I didn't expect any *special* treatment.  I want to scream anytime people say *my accounts are too hard* or that they *requested* to be taken off of certain accounts or certain doctors.

My first *on the job* dictation with a VERY FOREIGN DOCTOR I wanted to bawl my eyes out.  I stuck it out, foreign doctor after foreign doctor, knowing that this is getting me the experience that I am going to need if I ever want to make it in this career.

Almost 1 year later, though not still with Precyse for lack of work reasons, I feel that I am a way better MT for sticking out the tough doctors and not *cherry picking* my way through life.

I think ESL docs are brilliant and amazing though--even though their speech and grammar is not ...look at the struggles they went through to get to where they are now.  Medicine, different language, all those things.

Anyways, point is, I love this career, take it seriously, and I hope that one day I can be up there with the best of them.

Do you think they would let someone test with one year of experience? Thanks. nm

Hving had experience with MDI-MD for over 1 year (sm)
This is the norm for them. I had posted about it a few months back and then a few months before that.

In the time that I was there, they had 3 hiring sprees for the account that I was working on. Why do you think that is? Because of more work or because of people quitting because of lack of work? It was because of lack of work.

I have since left and am working at a new company. I have more than doubled my production and in less time than it took for me to try to make the measly 700 lpd with MDI.

Yes, the pay is good and a little above average, but I will again state, that 0.095 per line times 0 is still 0.

Mark my words, in 3 more months, there is going to be an overload of dictation and everyone will be swimming with overtime, they will threaten the MTs with hiring more people to stay in TAT and then it will be slow again.

Been there done that, not going back.
Do they stick to their 3 year experience requirement? sm
I only have 1 year of ortho exp on clinic accounts but feel that I am very well qualified in that I usually send my reports direct and they do not need to go to my manager very often.
I was offered less than 7cpl this year with 10+ yrs experience.

I thought all companies audit(?)
The same people all the time on here keeping things going. It is so high school and so silly! Like a broken record! I am sure they are glad to be rid of you all wherever you worked with those negative attitudes.
I thought companies had to identify themselves
This company sounds to me like they are looking for newbies to pay very little to or go into some sort of training program where they won't actually get paid at all for the work, though the company would. Just my humble impression.
A year ago, I was offered 8 cpl for experience and I needed my own Word 2003. I turned them down. nm

Are you guys for real. Where did you these jobs?? I thought I had applied at all ES companies and
not one paid that. I must have missed some.
Do all companies require you to work 1 year before you can take vacation?

Meaning you are an employee, of course.  Just wondering if there is any hope out there.  If you start with a company and it turns out horrible, then you have to start all over again, waiting for another year to go by.  I don't want to wish my life away!!

Thanks everyone!

are all companies running low or completely out during this time of year. sm
I have been working for this medium sized MTSO based in Tennessee (not TransHealth) and for the last 2-3 months there has been very low low work-- and guess what, we're expected to get at least 1000 lines to be eligible for Health Insurance paid by employer.... that is 1/2 of it.   Here it is 6 a.m. and there is no work on my 2 accounts.   Is anyone hiring now that has abundant work and pay at least 9 cpl with benefits.  I need another job.
lol They are the 2 biggest MT companies in the world and growing every year.
lol
Most larger companies do not close for holidays, this is a 24 houra day/365 day a year job. (nm)

Howdy! In the last year, I applied and got offered jobs at a minumum of 10 companies
and not ONE single place checked any references - not 1.  Even the one who said they would, Diskriter, never made 1 call. Do you feel lucky??
Is it safe to ask a company after one year for a raise? Do companies give raises?
Curious
Companies that require five years' experience...sm
This October, I will be working as an MT for five years. I'm now looking to change companies and I notice there are several who require a minimum of five years' experience.

Would I be better off waiting until October, when I will have been an MT for five years, to change? Do these companies pay any better than those who require less experience? Or are they all pretty much the same and I may as well go ahead and apply to the ones who have less stringent prerequisites?

I've only worked for one MT company so I'm not very savvy on the MT marketplace. Any advice would be appreciated.
I agree on all fronts! Same experience, but 3 different companies. All

are you serious? This board is for MTs to get information about companies from personal experience.
nm
Are you getting decent responses from companies for positions if you have experience and are
a good transcriptionist.  I am going to start looking but it seems there are so many looking I am just wondering how it is going job wise.
Speaking from experience.. you work all day and make nothing. I also have worked for other companies
on Escription and made a lot more.I just came to the conclusion that they do not pay for headers, footers, spaces etc.. I swear I would work 8 hours and be lucky to make $50. It was my first Escription account so when I changed companies I could not believe it. I make in a few hours what took me 10-12 hours to make at Focus. Dont waste your time. They design it so you dont make any money. What a waste of time working there.
Fifteen years experience here and also offered 8 cpl as a max at multiple companies. This biz is
going down hill fast. I remember making 10 cpl 10 years ago and that was cheap..Only profession I know that has gone down in wages rather than up. Very sad. If you offered 8 cpl..take it..
i clear over 800 a week, 40/week; 30+ year experience. (nm)

Did Keystrokes sell to Transcend? I thought Keystrokes was buying up companies sm
but I heard from another service owner that they sold out to Transcend. Anyone know if that happened?
my first year I made 16k. Doubled that second year. Going on year 6 with (sm)

two local accounts I earned 23,000.00 and a national I earned 35,400... 58,400 this year.  Don't ask me how many hours, though, I really have no idea.  I'm pretty motivated.  (When people ask me how many hours I work a week I reply as many as it takes  I'd say 40-50/week.  I am also a fitness instructer and personal trainer, about 5 hours a week or so.  Decent money (sometimes under the table!) but mostly I just do it for fun and to be social and wear cute work-out clothes.

that first year was a rough one... but I consider it part of my education.

I'm pretty motivated.

I actually thought of that. I even thought of trying to go back to MQ part-time!! (sm)
I just wonder about hours at a second company.  I work days (and some nights) with this company.  I have a set schedule but with the no work situtation I've been on the computer at all hours of the day and night.  Right now I have no work, so I would love to jump on at a company #2 and start working.  Do you have to have set hours at your company #2?  Thanks for the suggestion.
Last year, there was a letter sent that told us what we earned the previous year. sm
In the past, it has been all or nothing; if you did not hit the lines for full time for the year, you did not get PTO. I talked to my lead this morning about a last-minute vacation and she told me that the yearly packets are going out in a week or so and that the new policy will acrue PTO by the pay period or month. I like that a lot better, but she also made it sound like they are upping the amount of lines needed to acrue PTO. I normally get between 15 and 20,000 lines per pay period, so I am sure that will be fine but I am worried about the periods that have lower volumes, like most of January every year.
Webmedx lets you carry them from year to year sm
You can accrue up to 140 hours (I think) before you stop the accrual process. Don't have to use it all in one year.
I would stick it out, most places are slow now through the end of the year every year (nm)

as you can see, no one else is telling theirs either-sm
and they don't want anybody jumping on their bandwagon's either. They were very quick to mention who they had bad experiences with, but no one is telling who they are happy with, other than for the sarcastic MQ and Diskriter.
You just don't know - I'm telling you ..........
they'll hate it.
keep telling yourself that
over and over until you really believe it; say it like a mantra. There is nothing wrong with talking about what is going on as this affects current MTs and could potentially affect many other MTs. I am willing to keep an open mind as well as it seems others who have posted are as well; however, one cannot just look at one side of the story. There are questionable things.
She might be telling it like it is but...
I am sure there is a much more polite way of saying it. I know I wouldnt appreciate be spoken to in that manner.
Always telling us at OSI they will do this
NM
? Why are you telling us this?
I mean, good luck. I just do not understand your attitude and why you are making this huge statement about your big decision to stay and telling us when you plan to work, etc.

Maybe you are directing this to someone in particular and I didn't catch it.
Thanks for telling me how to do this.
I do not have much experience doing zipped files.  Anyway I will try what you said.  Sounds easy enough.  Again thank you.
Right. Just keep on telling yourself
Repeat it over and over again. I'm sure you can convince yourself with a little practice.
Why are they telling you they will be out
I would refer all of these to the supervisor. This is not part of your job.
But telling somebody to look for another job
is more or less avoiding to confront the issue all together, and throw out the bath with the child in it.
Telling you it was not a lie
Well, there is an old saying that if certain people's lips are moving, you know they are lying.....Just sayin'. If the shoe fits, wear it and if not, it plain old don't fit.
would you mind telling me (sm)

this Cindy-person's last name. You can E/M me if you want, in fact, I'd prefer it that way. I worked for a Psycho Maniac named Cindy before, and wonder if they're the same person!

gapeachxx@yahoo.com...thanks a bunch!

She's telling the truth about this one. It is
terrible, no work, system is out of order a few times a day, and they just hire more and more people when the accounts have no work on them.
Well, they are not telling the truth! sm
I was offered an incentive package to stay with them and that was on eScription! I turned it down and left anyway. Prefer working for Americans!
