    Hope this person
didn't just get some free typing done at your expense.  Ya never know.
Hey, you don't have to be mean to this person; if she or he doesn't like sm
Webmedx, they will end up leaving. Unfortunately they don't seem to understand that as MTs we need to adapt or get out of the profession! There are good and bad things with ASR in my experience.
    Hope this doesn't upset you....

But, try to look at it this way.  You are in a healthcare profession, part of the team that takes care of that patient, even though not IN the hospital.  That means nights, weekends, holidays, etc., someone from the healthcare team has to be available for transcription.

I don't know anything specifically about this company, but from a manager's standpoint, I just wanted you to realize WHY some companies are specifically looking for nights, weekends, and holiday help.  It's tough--everyone wants to be off on weekends, be off on holidays, etc., but the reality is that MT just like nurses, doctors, and other allied health professionals are needed when the patient is an inpatient.  :(

I'm in CA, too...I hope it doesn't fall off, LOL (sm)
Hey fatcat...My primary is very high ESL as well, but it's one of the Lanier accounts. Apparently, the account is phasing out the Lanier system and going to Inova, which is an Escription platform. Perhaps your account just isn't going to affected by it.

If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email. In the meantime, I'm gonna get some coffee and check to see if my lifeboat is ready to go in case CA does break off into the water, lol!!!
I hope you are a healthy person or have insurance

    My theory...and I hope I'm wrong...sm
Keep in mind this is just based on a previous employer and I have no way of knowing for sure this is what MSJ is doing. My former employer did a big hiring boom (and MSJ has done that; I have been watching the boards). This accomplishes several objectives:

    1. It keeps the accounts in tighter TAT.
    2. It keeps the MTs logging on when there is work, and therefore on an on-call status and taking whatever is available, with most of the work coming from accounts other than the primary.
    3. It keeps the MTs from making the top-tier bonus pay, even though the accounts are in TAT.

This is a win-win situation for the employer and a no-win situation for the MT.

I hope to heaven that is not what MS is doing because if it is, I'm outta here. I put up with that baloney for a year before I left my previous employer and will not put up with it again.

I am really fuming right now but trying to keep myself together, hoping I am making a mountain out of a molehill. We'll see.

I just wish for once, I could work for a company that shoots straight with their employees. I don't think that company exists.

You put your post about the wrong person in with
the posting that he is a criminal, steals $$, threatens lawsuits against MTs, and more. Geez back at ya! Can't you figure out that posting the wrong guy in with this mess may tarnish the wrong person's reputation? So you thought he was a salesman, your opinion. But you opened your mouth and inserted the WRONG PERSON in this thread, and others then knew who YOU were talking about and assumed you had to know what you were talking about, or why would ANYONE post something so horrible about someone? Read names more carefully next time. There were far more than a few letters off for to you arrive at your wrong conclusion - the entire last name was wrong. And yes, some people do value their reputations, especially when their livelihood depends on it. Seems these days our reputations are about all most of us have left.
You are wrong...not the person you are thinking of
If I was a person who you were unable to offer a position then how would I know that you often misspell and use words incorrectly in your emails and IMs? I am not the person you think I am.

I did not say anything about your work. Just offering a kind suggestion to you so that you are aware of the misspellings and misused words. It does not look very professional and does not give MTs much faith in QA when the person heading the QA team has trouble spelling simple words.
This is a person trying to start a business, doesn't
sound like she has any firm accounts yet and the work will be sporadic at best.   If you need to make a living doesn't sound like this is a good choice.
I think this is the same person who complained about this before and she doesn't even work there

Ugh .. I hope Keystrokes doesn't sell, but no guarantees nowadays. :( nm

If a person is happy at their job, what's wrong with wishing them well by having them stay there?
    That's not nasty.
InterPro Medical...Hope this doesn't appear to be selling soul to devil.... but
I am seriously considering working for InterPro (a company owned by India that outsources).  Never thought I would, but I see they have BCBS insurance which starts in 30 days of employment, and other good benefits.   I am a diabetic with hypertension and paying almost $400.00 a month for Cobra health insurance, which will expire soon, thus will be left uninsured.  I've tried getting individual insurance, but no one will ensure because of my health problems.   Can anyone give me some specs on InterPro, i.e. current employees, etc.., or any other companies where insurance goes in effect 30 days of employment.

Wrong. The person who was fired this week was from Keystrokes. I just got an email

from someone asking if was me posting here tonight, so I came to look.   I agree with a lot that the poster has to say but I post my name when I post.  Anyone who knows me or of me knows this.  I do not have to post behind anonymous names nor do I.

I do disagree with some of what this poster says though and will take a moment to tell her/him something:  You chose to run a service and knew or should have known what you were getting into.  If you are doing all that, you should either hire more people or hire different people.  The best move I ever made as a service owner was learning to delegate and hiring the right people including Human Resources, Accounting, Operations, QA, Recruiting and IS.  (The second best move I ever made was to stop letting the posts on the MTStars and others affect me).  Best advice I could give a service owner is to cough up the money for a good staff; it is worth it in the long wrong although hard in the short term.

While not everyone agrees with me or likes me or wants to work with Keystrokes, I do not feel a need to hide behind the anonymous nature of these boards and would rather have people know where I stand than wonder.

You would also know that I value our transcriptionists and know that as a company, Keystrokes constantly tries to improve.  If you know me at all or anything about Keystrokes, you would also know that our rates are going up not down and we do not undercut prices to beat our competitors.

If anyone has anything to say to me directly, please use my email.  I do not visit here often anymore and do not plan on starting again as it gets a bit addicting :)

Maybe you asked the wrong person. I am sure that not everyone is privy to all account information.
I know that there are at least 2 more in the works, being converted over. How do I know? I am the lead on one of them and have been involved with the conversion for the past 3 weeks.

The only people who know would be KB, LT and PG for sure as they handle sales and operations.
Very true! Being the honest person that I am - sm
I admitted that it was me. Funny thing is, I was told that I was going to get my check regardless and also sorry for the oversight. Something tells me I would have never seen a dime if I hadn't asked for it. Come on, a month later. How can you just forget?
I hope that's true, might make me feel a little better...
Even if they are being charged less, the rates companies are paying MTs to do VR is grossly unfair. There is no way it takes half the time to do VR as compared to regular. You still have to listen to the whole dictation. Maybe 65-70% would be fair, not 50%.
Very true. I would think and hope the forum would be open to all (m)
MDIers leaving, planning to leave, and not sure what the heck to do, and those waiting it out to see what happens. We could all compare notes, give insight when able, be supportive, etc. I hope there's a way to effectively do this privately.
It does not matter who you work for, a true QA person
who is worth their weight in gold, will NOT take a position that pays any other way than by the hour. It does not matter if it is regular QA or ASR, there is no difference. I have seen ASR where you have to retype the entire report; of course that also means that you have to take out what is already there. If you are a QA specialist and have 100% listen, many blanks (I see them in every report), difficult dictators (which is no problem with me but is with the MTs), there is no way on earth you will make a wage if you are paid on production and these companies that do this, do not give a hoot about quality and they also do not give a hoot about their QA people.
I hope they keep posting. They're showing everyone their true colors. :) nm
    x
This is not true of all QA...if I see something blatantly wrong in the report...
I point it out whether it was marked to check or not...we are not talking commas and periods...we are talking leaving out words, et cetera...
That is wonderful news. I hope the changes stick and the new office manager is a true asset to the
owner.  She is a lovely woman and I wish her much success.  I just might check them out again.  Thanks for the information.
WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! We turn down work because so many hospitals are sm
calling wanting a company that keeps work in the USA. The trend was stronger a few years ago before it all came to light about poor quality, the woman in Pakistan who threatened to post medical records on the web, 911, etc. There are hospitals who look for US-only and they are the MAJORITY not the minority. Definitely seeing the tide turn on offshore from an MTSO perspective, both MTs and customers!!!!!
Too little, too late? It is never too late. I am one person, true, but together

Let me tell what this ONE person achieved on her own and then you can imagine what many of us can do if we stand together.

Two years ago, I was working as an MT for a local hospital.  One day, we were told that our overflow was going to be outsourced to one of the nationals, just the discharge summaries and not even all of those.  Two months after they told us that lie, they called is in one by one and fired us because they were outsourcing the entire dept because it was cost effective.  The service they were using was a very large national who I happened to know had a reputation of offshoring.  And I just knew because our little hospital had easy as pie dictators with maybe 4 out of a staff of 200 that were ESL, our work would most definitely be one of the accounts offshored.

I was angry!  Oh, they offered us jobs at the service and told us we would definitely be working on our hospital, but I'm no fool and I knew it would be a matter of time before we were forced to take secondary accounts which would eventually become our primary accounts and our little hospital would just disappear from our queues.

I refused the job with the service on moral grounds.  I refused to work for a company that offshored.  And then I decided to channel my anger and outrage into something proactive.  I wrote letters to every newspaper in my area.  Every small farming community newspaper this hospital served, and the big city newspaper in the big city close by.  I never dreamed that anyone would pay attention at one woman's rantings.  But a funny thing happened.  My letter was printed in more than one of the papers I sent it to, and reporter from one of the larger newspapers called me and asked if I would do an interview.  I said absolutely.

Long story short, they did the interview and then interviewed the administrator of the hospital.  They put him in the hot seat and asked him about offshoring health information to India.  He had no definitive answers to give except that he would have to look at the contract and make sure that it was stipulated that his hospital's work was not sent over seas.

It was a small triumph, but I took some satisfaction in it.  Two weeks after that and just when I thought all the hoopla had died on my little letter, another letter appeared in the newspaper -- from an HIM director at another local hospital who said as a result of reading my letter and interview, that she had received a number of calls from concerned people asking if their medical information was being sent and transcribed overseas.  She wanted to write the letter just to set the record straight that her hospital employed their own MTs and did not outsource to a service nor did they offshore any of their work to third-world countries.

And I'm still not done.  Still a few weeks later another letter in the big city paper was printed from another HIM director assuring the community that her hospital employed its own American MTs and did not outsource or offshore.

Now, everything has quieted down since then, but I managed to ruffle some feathers and make a point, and if I (one person, one middle-aged work-at-home mother of two) can cause that much ruckus -- think what a whole bunch of us can do.

I think we, as a group, need to take control of our industry and our career destiny and do something.  Maybe march on Washington DC protesting the offshoring of American jobs -- not just ours, but ALL American jobs that are being offshored.  There are more Americans out of work and losing work to third-world countries and corporate greed than just MTs!  Our government needs to hear our voices!  We need to MAKE ourselves be heard!

Instead of sitting back and pasting little smiley faces in our posts and saying good luck with that we need to come together.  There is no room for MTs willing to accept lower wages, no room for MTs whose hearts bleed for our third-world counterparts, and no room for MTs who want to sit back and do nothing, but reap the benefits when the strong win the battle.  We've reached a critical turning point and it's time to take up the cause and change the future.

I think it is one person. I had a few print outs from a few weeks ago and this person even capital
I have had a positive one. I have been with Keystrokes for 3 months and am very happy.

I printed them to show my manager but she told me that there are few bitter people out there and no one can do anything about them. My manager said that everyone can tell that it is the same few over and over again, for Keystrokes and a few other companies as well. Time to move on Ms. Anon. I cannot think why a company would go through the trouble of getting IDs and getting you installed just to ignore you after that. Doesn't make sense, does it? Are you sure that't the whole truth? You keep saying truth but it sounds fishy.
Exactly what I'm talking about RUDE! You are a very unhappy person. A happy person does not
respond in such a way!  This is the reason SS has such a bad name.
I am not a hateful person but that person screamed at me for 45 minutes. sm
She said all transcriptionists are idiots.

Glad that's true for you for 8 years. Not true for many. I love the company, but I do run out of
as do many others. Wish I were as fortunate as you.
Not necessarily true. That is not a true test of skill.
Do you know how many people get others to take tests for them? It happens and it happens more often than you might think. The only skill that shows anyway is that you can do it.

We are actually more than a transcriptionist. We are specialists in our field and we are supposed to know some things regarding anatomy and physiology as a working base. That's how we can judge if a physician dictates something in accurately and many do because they can't pronounce or just are not thinking. That's why our skills of basic knowledge come into play and that means basic knowledge of body parts. If our job was just to sit there and type without thinking about what we are transcribing, then all patients are in trouble and this is just based on what I see as a QA person.

It's more than just knowing how to transcribe and some of the companies have discovered how to know what your basic knowledge is based on what you have picked up with your experience by utilizing your references etc. Hopefully that utilization of your references has taught you something that does stick in your head.

Beliefs like yours are just so far off base. You have to know what you are doing. It's not just about being able to listen and type. Base knowledge is a very important thing and the services have to find a way to know that knowledge base that is there in your head.

    That doesn't fly - KS doesn't offshore
    nm
He doesn't trust VR, or doesn't trust his MT to train it correctly?
Or perhaps his MT(s) has/have been filling his head with horror stories about VR and how it is a lawsuit waiting to happen?

Personally, I don't see any reason an M.D. would not trust a VR program, unless he's seen the products of a report edited by a less than competent MT who didn't do their editing job appropriately.

This may be true... and that is philisophically true, but
and pay bills while being screwed? This is what I think the OP is scared of... I certainly agree and honestly think it is unfair to put people in this precarious position... on one hand be grateful you still have your job, or a job, and on the other, immediately there will possibly be a cut in pay, for which you may have to give up your home, or medicine or reduce your budget for food. I don't know if I am the only one, but I think the OP still has a good head on her shoulders and that may be the problem...at least for employers out there who are switching to VR.. and their employees

I certainly hope 20 hours per week requirement will not be part of the new rules.  I think a line count requirement should be sufficient.
    hope not!
I hope not, I need to work 50+ hours for them to make ends meet, otherwise I will have to get another job.  Is it okay to work for two companies??
    I would hope someone would
do the same for me if asked.
I hope I do not have a bad
experience with them.  That is why I am only going PT and if it does not work out, I will still have my old job to fall back on.
    Let's hope so!

    t

    Well I hope..
The facilities start to catch this and crack down on the companies.  My part time company wants ALL reports looked over.  We don't penalize for sending blanks to me and I do a quick read over everything (except for a few MTs who do not require this).   I worked in Escription and what I saw on there was SCARY!!!
    I hope this is better.

I worked for an offshore owned company where it was all about quantity.  Company even kept a HORRIBLE MT just because she cranked out the lines.  Didn't matter her quality was crap and was considered a joke by middle managment.  India did most typing but with US edit.  Typists changed regularly so it wasn't like they learned to do better.  Quality would improve slightly and then would notice, after couple of months, that quality was crap again so we knew we were dealing with a new batch of typists. Even so, the push was always on to get the jobs off US edit and send Indian work straight to client.  Of course, the clients never knew they were not getting US editing anymore, as they got no price reduction when they no longer had that level of work being done on their jobs.  The problem is the facilities accept the crap work so why should the companies change.  It took a while but I finally found a US owned company where quality matters.  Now one of the first questions I would ask a prospective employer is if they are US owned.

We can hope so, anyway! nm

I am like that too, so I hope you are right! nm
