go to Acusis' home page, click on Careers on the upper left-hand side, and then read the description of the Research Scientist job they want to fill. (In INDIA, of course!) Main interest seems to be word-rec, artificial intelligence, etc. And that word evangelize raises the hairs on the back of my neck.

Scary! Wonder what info they are trying to get? Or is it just to peeve off some good MTs?

astute observation.

And me thinks you see correctly. What fields would use MT's skill set to the greatest advantage? Any opinions out there on that?

I love MT and if it peters out I'll be one sad camper, but life does that sort of thing now and then.... However, there must be some other sphere's where MT experience would give a bit of an edge on the market. What do the rest of you think?

Very Curious Development
The reports show as having been dictated today. Even though I am steaming along as fast as I can (and I do go pretty fast), there is still a ton of work on all my accounts. I mean a TON. And it is all dated today. (And there usually is not a ton on these accounts to begin with, just the average amount.) The reports are approximately two minutes apart in time. I don't know if that means anything, as I am not very tech-savvy, sorry to say. As to being prepared, I am. A person I have been doing some side-work for has told me I can have as much work from her as I want. (She subs from a large teaching institution.) This will mean, of course, that perhaps I cannot give extra over what we are required to each day MDI, but after having sat here without for so long, I had to do something. I have too many financial responsibilities and people literally depending on me to put food in their mouths. I will do what I am contractually obliged to for MDI, of course, for as long as I work for them, but I will most likely will not have the ability to give them lots of extra help. I gotta tell you, I am completely mystified by all of this. I am glad that I don't have all of my eggs in the same proverbial pot. I think it pays to diversify in your jobs these days. At least I will feel more confident. I wish you/us all lots of luck, I really and truly do.

wow - now THAT is scary.... sm
Something to consider when giving out our private information...
I hope you hear from her soon.
This is scary:(
Anyone way out of line could do the same with any company for that matter. If someone asks a question and wants a truthful answer some flake out there. However, I think if posting as a KS recruiter they should actually be a recruiter. No need to be playing head games with fellow transcriptionists.
scary
I've been posting for months as zzz on the MQ board and I'm not concerned or upset that another zzz is posting. I find it kind of strange, though, that I'm aligned on most of your philosophies. You're a little more aggressive, but I do agree with you on many things including this subject.

The whole cesspool concept is outrageous and I really have no respect for a company who thinks this is good for anyone. I know the idea was to prevent anyone from running out of work (no downtime pay for MQ to worry about too), but...

Anyhow, I do what I have to do for me. They did what they had to do when they took over $300 away from me a month with no warning (daily bonus), so I shall follow my leader.
Now THAT'S s-s-s-sc-sc-scary!
nm
I know, it's so scary when they
screw us over with pay cuts year after year. You're giving me an ulcer worrying with you, LOL. I hope everything works out for you and you're able to make enough money. If not, don't be afraid to move on to a different company. Gotta do what you gotta do to support your family. Crossing my fingers for you!
The scary thing is that quite a few of the

scary people on this board ARE MTSOs.  I've seen more than one nutjob running around screaming and ranting to people.  "Well, I'd never hire you to work for me!"  GOOD!!  I don't want to work for some psycho chick with a bad attitude anyways!!!  The real shrews expect endentured servitude, don't pay squat, and have poor business management skills.  If you're an MTSO and you're taking this post personally, well, I'm probably referring to YOU.

Scary, huh!! I agree:)
nm
You means this are scary?
nm
Scary thought.....
I was actually hired by them and due to begin training when my current company begged me to stay. I'm only making a little less but the benefits are SO much better!! 10 vacation days the 1st year, 6 paid holidays and sick time earned each pay period. And they were willing to agree to my schedule!! I am so happy now after hearing this!!
So true, it's scary! - nm
.
IC Status-a bit scary
I am going to be switching to IC status soon and was wondering if anyone who is already working as an IC can tell me what kind of line rate I will need to compensate for all the taxes I will have to pay, especially both sides of the social security tax. I am SE status now but that is probably going to change and employee status is not for me. I know taxes vary from state to state but what percentage of taxes do you average when taking them out of your gross paycheck each pay day. TIA for any information.
Yeah, I found that a little scary - sm
I do think though that a lot of places do that and just don't tell you - small MTSOs, of course.  I don't believe it's the right thing to do though.
LOL, I agree! Some of these people are scary. nm
x
scary name. Probably hire "typists". nm
x
Ew - kinda scary! Thanks for the warning everybody. (nm)
(nm)
The scary part about the new program is (sm)
we will get to see how much time we are actually wasting when we think we are working.  - phone calls, interruptions, etc. Many of us who claim we are working 8 hour days are probably working 6, and I'm probably one of the guilty ones.  I think it will motivate me.
This is scary, I was recently hired :( nm
xxxx
what is scary is when they threaten to release
confidential information, basically extortion. I guess what I meant in regard to offshoring the work is when they have depleted their staff, what other option will they have?
Do your own research.
I'm another MT happily working with Omni!

The inflammatory post is obviously written with an ulterior motive. I have been working with Omniscribe for quite a while now, and I can honestly say it is a professionally run business run by a truly together businesswoman who truly respects her clients as well as her contractors and employees.

I will say that quality is job #1 at Omniscribe. It's respectfully expected. Anyone who wouldn't want to do their best to put out a 100% quality product, quite honestly, shouldn't be in this business.

If you're looking for information on the company, I would suggest speaking to employees as well as the owner of the business.
You need to do a lot of research - sm

If you are starting from scratch and don't know anything, you need to start looking this stuff up on the internet.  There are at least 3 types of pedals you can buy, for instance, and every company has a different requirement.  You could also use a C-phone or some other type of dial-in phone for the company's system.  There are many, many different things and each company requires a different system.

So my advice is to apply to a job (most put in their requirements in the job ad) and then talk to the company.  Most of these systems aren't hard to learn but if you have nothing to go by, coming from tapes, I'd look into a little more and get some knowledge under your belt first.

Good luck to you.

Yes, but I do the same research now that I did then, sm
and have still taken the time to mentor people and listen for them when working in a paid by the line situation.  It's not all about production.  It's about quality, and giving back what I have been given.  Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of people nowadays are geared to production only.  However, being able to do all types of dictation and all types of dictators ultimately makes you a more valuable employee and you do end up making more money.  Last time I tried training people inhouse, I was appalled to find that they were happy just running spell check, assuming that if the spell checker doesn't kick it out, then they have the right word, without even knowing the meaning or anything.   I don't pretend to be the queen of anatomy or pharmaceuticals or anything, but I do have enough working knowledge to know if something fits or not.   Dorlands was my best friend for many years.  :-)
Please, do your OWN research

before deciding that you don't like a company, because this board is definitely biased.  I have been with Amphion for going on 2 years and I can honsetly say, without a doubt, that it is the best job I have ever had.  There's tons (and I do mean tons!) of work to be done, the support staff is awesome, yes...QA is strict, but after all, we are in the business of people's lives and health care...so it needs to be.  If you are an excellent, quality-minded MT, then Amphion will work for you.  If not, then you really should look elsewhere.......

And no, I am not a supervisor, recruiter, or management; I am simply a very happy and satisfied MT

She is doing research by asking here, isn't she? It's all a
nm
Research
If you research thoroughly, you will find out via the internet, other employees, etc. I am currently compiling a list of all the companies that offshore...even just a little bit. :)
You need to research
American History & see just how bad it really was before unions. It's an eye opener & scary to think we're headed back that direction. The problems we're having now in MT are a direct result of too many powerful huge corporations in control without any union representation. The worker bees are always the ones to suffer in cases like this. Corporations and company owners hate unions, and there's a reason why. Because they're on the side of the WORKERS.
Wow, you are scary. It sounds like a good thing for
TransTech that you moved on. Good riddance.
The scary part of that is you never know what account you will get when you go with a new company.
That is what worries me most right now leaving my job. I know my accounts. Companies are not always honest about what account you go on and if they have long time MTs they probably have the best stuff so you get what they dont want.
Isn't it scary how quick people are to go for the jugular

? I think saying west coasts accts are all scary sm
is an overreaction. I've seen Florida, Texas and other accounts that were horrendous. 60% ESL estimate is really not bad at all.
goodness that IS scary, patient records sm
but also the allegations also reflect on your services as an MT and that is BIG, not sure how long been there. It would be important to clear your name in writing. Hopefully you kept the folder as records of truth. So this was a private client you were working for?? as opposed to a national MT company huh
after doing a TINY bit of research ....
It seems its legal, as long as its non-invasive and doesn't ask questions that relate to sexual orientation, personal beliefs, etc. That would be an invasion of privacy. HIPAA for employees too (as well as ADA, etc).

In other words, the psych tests can be for ability to perform the work, etc, VERY work related.

(This makes very little sense, its a headache day for me, so thinking is a bad thing to do!).... back to my couch :-)
You've got to do some research
I'm not the original poster and this is not meant to be ugly at all. If you have to ask this question, you probably would not do well having your own accounts. Maybe you've received a letter or card from a dentist or doc that is new to the area anouncing the opening of his/her practice....same type of thing.

You've got to hustle. Do some research.
I was doing some research on Indian
MT companies and from what I can tell probably all work is done in India.  They do hire U.S. editors, or at least they used to.
MTs who care enough to research instead of
leaving a blank will certainly check other reports on the system. If a drug name is slurred or cut off during a DS, she might check the H&P or consult and see if she sees it there, or she might find out which Dr. Smith the referrer meant, etc. All part of the job. Other reports are accessed a need-to-know basis, and an MT often needs to know.
Where in Illinois? - so I can research. TIA
N
I'm not too lazy to research this...
The only esoteric element about your postings is how you manage to transcribe with all of these conspiracy theories running rampant through your brain.

What a delightful co-worker you must be.

*YAWN*

market research
They didn't do the market research itself, they did the transcription of the interviews that were done for market research.
Okay then, how about Webmedx? I'm doing research.
nm
Unfortunately, I did indeed research it, was proactive...
had the same problem the above poster had, could not get into the website, thought maybe I had the wrong website. Thank you for being so helpful and sarcastic.

Use the research box, not the Google box and (sm)

see what you find.  If it is the same company that has been discussed on this board recently many times, it is not good, several employees have posted about not getting paid and having to turn to legal proceedings to try and get their money.

Again, not sure if it is the same company but do plenty of research.  Good luck!

Not unhappy with my job Right Now, but I would be will to research it.

I love my job, but I feel like the future of MT in general is very insecure.  I would and I have investigated other possibilities.

On further research, I was correct sm
in my assessment of this person. Quite a bit posted about her on on this board over the years.
My boss waited a year or more a few times. Scary. -nm

That's kind of scary. Rose was very nice to me, but then I guess sm

everyone is when they are trying to get you to take a job.  The pay seemed decent for being an employee, but if the line counting method cannot be trusted, then I'm not sure that is so great either.  And I'm a bit nervous about not having direct deposit.  I have heard the check is in the mail story before ... ugh.

Thanks to everyone for your input.  It certainly gives me something to think about.
