Why pay on time if MTs will work for an MTSO..

Posted By: nm on 2007-07-25
In Reply to: why is Med-Scribe being slow to pay? - are they waiting to get paid before SM

...withtout a fuss and deliver on time?  Of course, this is completely wrong and unethical but how some folks think.  Even if you made a fuss, they'd probably just get someone else who made less of a fuss.  They will pay on time when 1) they can't get any more qualified MTs to work for them (word gets out), and or 2) paying late starts affecting their bottom line (MTs hit them with late fees)  Just IMO...

An MTSO can say I need these lines by this time, and you, as an IC, either say yes or no.
:+
This saves MTSO time also. SM
Why would MTSO want to waste their time scoring my test and starting the interviewing process, only for me to say no thank you when I find they don't offer DD or they pay ridiculously low pay or they use a platform I hate.  I would think they would want to know before getting into the time consuming process if there is a chance I want to work for them.  The whold hirinng process isn't just about what the MTSO wants, it is also about what I want.
Note to any MTSO who does not pay on time SM
You are going to lose your good people.  Do not go blaming the account for not paying you.  That is not our problem.  We entered into an agreement with YOU.  You should have working capital to pay your ICs.  We are truly more like employees but you get away with not paying our social security and other perks by calling us ICs.  We don't get paid for Christmas or any other holiday, we don't get a Christmas bonus, we don't get paid sick days or vacation.  There are no pension plans.  We work our fingers to the bone, don't take phone calls during our work time, and we give our best to the job.  All we ask is to be paid.  If you cannot manage your business to come up with pay, do not expect the talented workers to stick around.  Then see how much your account wants to pay you when you have only the desperate left working for you.
MTSO says I need X lines by X time and will pay X cpl. IC says either "yes, I can" or

"Taking up valuable time of MTSO." You're digging deep now!

Absolutely not! I work for the best MTSO. I am have been so blessed to work for the small company I

I will share this about the MTSO I work for.  I called her late last Wednesday night after Church and told her I was compelled to help out with Hurricaine Katrina in some way and an opportunity arose for a small group from my Church to go to Louisianna this coming week.  Would she be able to cover my work.  She told me no problem without any hesitation and even donated money for the trip.

And I am sure there are plenty of good companies out there to work for.  To compare us to migrant workers is just not right.

Thank you! I'm looking for part-time work to supplement my no-work full-time job.

The bid has nothing to do with consistancy of work. MTSO cannot control how cosistant work is.
:+
I'm lookin for part-time work (about 3-4 hrs daily) after 13 years of full-time, anyone know of a
company that is hiring flexible part-time?  I'm starting a career in real estate but don't want to totally quit transcription, but I think most places require 25 hours a week and I cant work weekends, as real estate sales are the biggest on the weekend with open houses and people off work to shows homes to.  If you know of a place I'd sure appreciate the info.  Thanks!
As an IC I let the MTSO where I work
know when I can work on a day to day basis. I have no committment for # of lines or hours each week/pay period. If I can work, I let them know how much work I can take (they assign it). Sometimes I work 7 days straight, sometimes I take a week off, sometiesm I work every other day, just WHENEVER I want. If there is no work, then I don't work. This is, I believe, what a true IC job is.
If the pay is truly 7 or 7.5 cpl, as an MTSO it seems odd you would work for such. sm

It is quite noble for you to work outside your service so that others in your company can have work -- I applaud you for your selflessness and consideration to those depending on you -- but ultimately, all of us, no matter how much we care about others, we have to take care of ourselves.  Unless you live in some place that has an incredibly low cost of living, and I cannot imagine where that would even be anymore, I cannot think that such a low wage would provide enough for you.

I guess a lot of us ARE angry -- why wouldn't we be?  Wages have gone down to a pittance.  Companies advertise they want the best MTs with scads of experience, then offer us a wage that even a newbie should turn down.   And perhaps we are all a bit cynical/hardened about the posts on here, because there HAVE been scams with management/leads double posting, misleading, etc.  In 1983, I made 10 cents per GROSS line ... now here we are.  I think mostly I am scared.  I am 50 years old ... where will I be 10 or even 5 years from now?  I read an article online where dumpster diving was becoming quite the vogue, but I shudder to think that is what is next.

i work 3 part-time jobs now. it can be confusing if you are learning both at the same time, but sm
other than that not a problem for me. best to get one down before starting to other or you might become overwhelmed.
Anyone work for a small MTSO?
Compared to larger companies?
Poll: Is your MTSO low on work (please name it).
nm
HOW TO SELECT AN MTSO TO WORK FOR?

Here are some observations

Helpful suggestions:

1.         Ensure there will be sufficient work available. If an MTSO does not enough work you will not make enough income.

2.         Ensure the MTSO offers IC/1099, IC/W2 and Employee/W2 wage options.

3.         Make sure you are trained and allowed to work on multiple accounts.

4.         Make sure your scheduling and shifts are properly established.

5.         During the interview and test period find out details about the platforms. Do not accept a position if you believe the platforms is

difficult avoid excepting the position.

6.         Production count should be simple AAMT 65 character lines including spaces and control characters. All other methods will

reduce your earnings.

Avoid the following:

1.         Experience of others may not apply to you. Negative posts on forums about any MTSO represents less than 5% MTSO staff. This means 95% of others are happily working. Make your own decision.

2.         Do not evaluate an MTSO if they off shore. As long as you have sufficient work off shoring should not matter to you.

3.         Do not go for MTSO who may offer bonus or benefits or other goodies if the work load is less than consistent, you will not earn enough.

Hope you find this post useful

Beware of any MTSO who gets their work from...sm
Superior Global.....Seems to be a trend with SG and smaller MTSOs....and putting a DISHONEST MTSO together with SG....that is just a hot mess!!!
I work for a mid-sized MTSO and have 24-hr TAT, its great!

Just how do you think an MTSO will be able to calculate this into the work needing to be done?
:+
Never would. BUT I am not an MTSO. I work as an employee for a company and I see everything sm
that I mentioned in my first post routinely. I don't mean to include all by no means, but don't try to make this out as a dream job. It has already been done and that is just one of of the reasons we are in the sad state we are in.
Transtech just may be sending some of our work to that other MTSO again, and maybe

that small MTSO that they sometimes use to help them out offshores and that is why we MT's at Transtech suddenly have an abundance of work this week -- asking for extra help this week -- quite a new thing with TT.  With the India cables being cut, putting those India MT's out of work, it makes me wonder if that service that TT sometimes uses to do our work maybe offshores.

Just thinking.  Keep those India cables DOWN/CUT !!!!!  We U.S. MT's need the work kept here in the U.S.

I work right for the client.......not the MTSO. I am an IC for a hospital. nm
x
I work for MTSO and know the hospital acct
I work on is a big one, just do not know how many MTs that on this particular account. When you say you correct only erroneous text I am not really sure what you mean by this. I correct everything I see that is an error so can you explain further as far as erroneous. Do you read the entire report as it goes or ?
Ugh - well I did all my work on time and I expect to be paid on time.

The phone company doesn't wait, the cable company doesn't wait, and the electric company doesn't wait for their money either - all of which I need to pay in order to do my job.  I work when I am supposed to, I help when behind, and give 110%, and I ask for my check to be on time.

I think if an MTSO is going to have to mail checks they should do so priority to make up for the delay.

Full time but no work half the time-nm
nm
Part-time MT getting full-time work ??????

TransTech should not be giving out work to PT people on their DAY OFF, or any other time BEFORE a full-time MT has enough work    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The MTSO I work for does too. It actually makes me feel more secure sm
in knowing that they must be doing something right to live in a huge new house, drive Jaguars and Hummers and go on nice vacations. They've been around a while and it is nice to know that things are going well. I think that if my MTSO was broke all the time, it would be a sign that he/she did not have a good business sense and I would be worried that the company would be broke all the time too.

I also know that I am not the only one who feels this way. The owners do not flaunt it or rub our noses in it; instead, they have made improvements in the company at the same rate.

Christmas bonus? Not sure if we will get one. Do I care? Not really. I am greatful to be working steadily with a good wage and a good future.
I used to work for a defunct GA MTSO that did the same thing. I always went straight to the bank and
The other thing to watch out for these companies who constantly bounce checks is that there may be other illegal stuff going on behind the scenes, such as not paying appropriate employee withholding taxes or health insurance premiums. My old MTSO never did send my Social Security contributions to the Feds for over a year. It's part of why I stay with the big nationals. They have their problems but I know my paycheck is always okay.
Anyone pay less than $800 a month for family insurance?? I work for a small MTSO
and it's not like I make a ton anyway, but the insurance is so high for my family. I feel like I'm just working for the insurance. My husband is self-employed so he obviously doesnt have insurance through his job to provide this so it is up to me and I'm dying here. Any suggestions? We have tried individual plans but it is a fortune for high deductible and yucky coverage. I need to maybe find a larger company to work for where the benefits are a little better.
I have to agree. My MTSO has had a lot of days recently of slow to no work but there is no way I'
jump from the frying pan into the fire. I can't afford to take a chance. Thanks for sharing your situation.
yeah and the MTSO still charging full price for the work
Most physicians/hospitals don't even know they're dictating into VR so still paying full-on transcription prices while the nationals/MTSOs cut the MT's salary in half. Nice huh?
I totally agree MT30 is an MTSO and a bad one probably... one that makes you work sm
for pennies and on Christmas and every weekend even if your kid has a soccer game.
when docs give mtso a check, then mtso pays you?
nm
Yeah, be careful. I worked for MTSO that "said" they paid for spaces. I had to work really S

hard for my lines.  Took a second job part-time with hospital, same platform (EXText), same font size, etc. and did the same amount of lines in half the time.  Decided to look closer at the MTSO and found out they weren't counting spaces.  I confronted them and all of sudden.  Got lots of apologies and will add to your next paycheck.  Long story short, never happened and I never had any work after that.

There are a lot of unscrupulous MTSOs out there.  They lie, cheat, and steal!

Yes, but there is play time and there is work time. sm
You volunteer. Awesome!! As long as you are volunteering during nonwork time that is great or during time that you have scheduled to be off. Again all great!!! We all have to take off with our kids when they are sick. Did it today as I had both at home and took PTO time for it. If you do these things in this manner, no big deal, but I am talking about the ones who constantly do not showw up for work and have excuses as there are more of them than there are of people who actualy take this job seriously.

As far as retirment from the other poster.... please. I am nowhere even close but I can say the downfall of this business is NOT because it is going overseas. It is because we do not have well trained American MTs. I have been here for 18 years. I have watched it go down. It is sad but we can't change it YET!
I worked for them previously. Very good, growing co., wonderful MTSO, average pay but lots of work.
xxxxx
Pay is always on time, direct deposit, very nice management to work with, and DQS platform, work
load normally busy, but low now because of the summer slow down on my accounts.  Sound an issue on some accounts, but not others.  Overall, wonderful company.
No PTO for part-time. Not sure if you can work part-time or not since recent rule change. sm
You do pay a deposit for their equipment.
I'm part-time and don't have to work all weekend. I work Tues-Sat.
I've never heard that from Chronicle, of course I didn't see the ad.
I have 4 accounts, doing all work types, and I usually have enough work but this is the slow time of
year so we are scrambling a little for lines.  Easy platform, paychecks DD, always on time.
Isn't she an MTSO owner - which MTSO ? Just curious. n/mnn

Is it a nice place to work and did you have work all the time. nm

Come to work for me then if you are 100% all the time.

I see other MT's work all the time (m)
On one of my accounts I am able to pull up old reports on a patient. I do it often if I can't understand something or have a question about something in the report I'm typing, as I can often find the info in the patient's old records, H&P for the current admission, etc. We are told to do this by the company.

If the real problem is the violation or the attitude, then they need to say that. What benefit is there in complaining about an MT's punctuation when the real issue is something totally different?
no work down time
I just wanted to point out that Diskriter very recently changed their down time policy.  They no longer pay for No Work downtime.   They also reduced the pay rate for down time pay due to their technical issues.  (This is for a regular Diskriter employee, not a hospital employee.)  The good news is that there is almost NEVER no work.  That is what makes me happiest about Diskriter.  Their pay is not the best, but if you stay focused, the hourly rate is still very good when you are not switching accounts constantly to try to find work.  They leave you alone to get your work done, too.  They don't pester you constantly.
I would definitely work a time at the new job
before making the decision to give notice at the other one. Believe me, the grass is not always greener on the other side. It will mean a lot of work in the beginning but could save you big time in the end if the job is not what you think it will be.
Same here, run out of work all the time
I am getting ready to go on a vacation but when I get back I am going to ask for more back up accounts! I am relatively new with TT, when you run out of work, do up make up the lost time? I really do not have any other time to make up for lack of work as I have another job. Just curious
They are out of work all the time.s/m

Missing over 30 hours this pay period.

No I do not. Not enough work at the time I was there. sm
However, things may have changed and they may have added a few accounts.

I do know some work was subcontracted from other MTSOs and a lot of it was eScription.

The pay was 9 cpl straight and 4.5 cpl editing. I was there about 2-1/2 years ago.

Sorry I don't have more recent info for you.
Part-time and still never enough work. nm
