The other thing to watch out for these companies who constantly bounce checks is that there may be other illegal stuff going on behind the scenes, such as not paying appropriate employee withholding taxes or health insurance premiums. My old MTSO never did send my Social Security contributions to the Feds for over a year. It's part of why I stay with the big nationals. They have their problems but I know my paycheck is always okay.

I wonder if it is a bank thing?
See if they release the deposit before 2pm on Friday I get it on Saturday, but if they released it after 2pm I would not have gotten it until Monday. Maybe it is a bank thing?
I had the same thing, not bounced but not in the bank. Will never do
it again. Once may be explainable. Twice or more there is no excuse.
Working at bank one thing, but MT? Not justified, IMO.
for ANY company or MTSO ever. They aren't all requiring background/credit checks, and I wouldn't even say most are, probably just certain ones and you could ask here about which ones do.
there is no such thing as the FDIC Bank Watch List
x
Same thing happening in straight MT, too.

It depends on your bank not Keystrokes when they post it. When your bank opens it will be there, ar
Hope this helps. Their payroll department is very efficient. In fact, I feel dumb beside them. Very professional (not that they make me feel dumb).
Not in the know, but saw same thing at another MTSO
That company would block work from being sent to me during a certain time of the day which would force me to work the evening shift (without a differential, of course). I've also seen it used to give work to favored employees to give them gravy and keep them happy and punish employees they want to get rid of by forcing them to leave voluntarily (can you say attrition?) Someone is definitely massaging the work flow as I can tell on my account there is not less dictation coming in just by looking at how many reports come in during a 24-hour period by the job numbers.
I am so frustrated with this MTSO thing. Is this normal or what....sm
I know there are plenty of nationals who are screwy, misleading and otherwise unorganized and shady.  However, I came across a great one that gets great reviews on this board.  Their benefit package is excellent, pay is fairly normal, HR lady seemed to be thorough. This company contacted ME, at which time I told her I had an eMachine and heard it was not compatible with their platform. She said we could get around it with a different platform they just started using on many accts.  I tested, we then had a 45-minute phone interview (everything sounds good, let's see what account we can get you matched with, I'm sending you a schedule commitment to fill out, etc.).  Does that not sound like I've got the job?  Three days go by, still received no paperwork so I call her.  Oops, she probably forgot to send it.  I complete it and send it back next day.  A WEEK goes by with no word.  I contact her.  She e-mails that she is speaking with acct. mgrs. to see what their demand is on certain accounts and will get back to me in a couple days.  Another WEEK goes by and she e-mails that she found a good acct. match for me but it is not compatible with my eMachine, and would I be interested in purchasing a new processor from them.  Didn't I tell her that when she contacted me? But I answer anyway that yes I'll use a different processor because I've put off other job searches for almost a month now in hopes of starting this one and I'm REALLY desperate to start working again.   That last e-mail was sent to her almost a WEEK ago and I'm getting tired of contacting her to see why she hasn't contacted me!  So now I'm into this company for about a month now.  This all seems so half-@ss and unorganized, and this company is known for being the opposite.  I am SO furious and am about ready to blow, but I don't want to keep plugging away and testing if I'm 'this close' to working again.  Is a month unheard of with nationals? Again, this is one of the good places! UGH
When our US force was defunct...
They gave us the option of applying for unemployment, and some MTs did. It was part of some layoff option in the unemployment aspect. Otherwise, we had 60 days to find another job.
They don't send work to anyone. Period. You can take that to the bank.
x
Not personally, but seen this happen to a few when I used to work in HR at a bank - sm
Sorry you are going through this.  I know when I worked in HR at a bank we absolutely would not consider anyone no matter how nice their resume if they had filed for bankruptcy or even had a bill more than 30 days late.  You may want to consider another alternative.  Best wishes to you.
No need to look. Sending 90% of the work offshore has put money in the bank for me. sm
It has lowered my stress level. I work half the hours I used to. Unfortunately for those of you that have your heads in the sand, there are options for companies now that do not include putting up with what we had to for years from MT's. My accounts are happy because the turnaround times are better than ever and the quality is about the same. The offshore companies have improved greatly in the past 10 years and the quality for some of them is the same or better than some in-house departments. Even my customers are amazed when they realize this.

I tell my customers that the work is being done offshore and guess what? THEY DO NOT CARE! They just want it done fast, done right and at a lower cost. They are happy and refer us to other hospitals who also DO NOT CARE THAT IT IS BEING SENT OFFSHORE.

You are fooling yourselves if you think hospitals will not use a service if they send work overseas.

I just wish I had done this 10 years ago instead of 3.

If you think I can't sleep at night, you're wrong. Quite the opposite. I don't feel bad about sending work out of the country because I am now providing money to someone who might otherwise starve.

As Americans, we do not know what it is like to truly be hungry or need shelter. If we did, we might appreciate what we have a lot more. I certainly do now and to be honest, I am happy not to have to listen to every whine and ailment of transcriptionists and excuses all day long. I KNOW the work is getting done.
TCs website doesn't seem to be working. May be defunct? nm
s
A net search brings up a defunct website with a 2003 date on it. Maybe not out there anymore? nm

Do you work on straight or VR? nm
,
Is work at MDI SR or straight typing?
nm
The place where you work now, did you do straight
transcription for them before and if so were they that strict with the straight. I just do not see letting quality work slip because of trying to get through a report as soon as you can. Do you work for a big place and also what platform are you using?
80% of work is VR/20% is straight which means...
probably 95% is VR or it is an overflow account...but you are right, just saw an IC for 8 cpl for 3rd shift!!!
I work at KS and I don't even make that straight typing. :( nm

Do you work a straight 8-hour schedule?
On a good day when there is a lot of work available, I can make about $120 in 5 hours.  Plus that 5 hours is when 'I' want to do it throughout the day.  On an average day, I make about the same amount of money in about 6 to 6-1/2 hours.  Since I have been doing this job for so many years, my old body can't take sitting and typing for an extended period of time.  I really don't know if I could handle working 8 hours a day anymore.
Absolutely not! I work for the best MTSO. I am have been so blessed to work for the small company I

I will share this about the MTSO I work for.  I called her late last Wednesday night after Church and told her I was compelled to help out with Hurricaine Katrina in some way and an opportunity arose for a small group from my Church to go to Louisianna this coming week.  Would she be able to cover my work.  She told me no problem without any hesitation and even donated money for the trip.

And I am sure there are plenty of good companies out there to work for.  To compare us to migrant workers is just not right.

The bid has nothing to do with consistancy of work. MTSO cannot control how cosistant work is.
:+
DARN STRAIGHT... and as soon as the Indians are forced to work weekends,

then I will.  I used to have plenty of work for my early morning shift and now none.  Why?  NOT BECAUSE THE CLIENT DOES NOT HAVE WORK AT THAT TIME......

BECAUSE THE INDIANS TOOK MY WORK.  They get to work days and have off nights and weekends becuase us PRIMMA DONNAS are here to suck hiney and say *I will do it cause the client needs it*

WAKE UP!!!!!!!  The world is laughing at you.

As an IC I let the MTSO where I work
know when I can work on a day to day basis. I have no committment for # of lines or hours each week/pay period. If I can work, I let them know how much work I can take (they assign it). Sometimes I work 7 days straight, sometimes I take a week off, sometiesm I work every other day, just WHENEVER I want. If there is no work, then I don't work. This is, I believe, what a true IC job is.
If the pay is truly 7 or 7.5 cpl, as an MTSO it seems odd you would work for such. sm

It is quite noble for you to work outside your service so that others in your company can have work -- I applaud you for your selflessness and consideration to those depending on you -- but ultimately, all of us, no matter how much we care about others, we have to take care of ourselves.  Unless you live in some place that has an incredibly low cost of living, and I cannot imagine where that would even be anymore, I cannot think that such a low wage would provide enough for you.

I guess a lot of us ARE angry -- why wouldn't we be?  Wages have gone down to a pittance.  Companies advertise they want the best MTs with scads of experience, then offer us a wage that even a newbie should turn down.   And perhaps we are all a bit cynical/hardened about the posts on here, because there HAVE been scams with management/leads double posting, misleading, etc.  In 1983, I made 10 cents per GROSS line ... now here we are.  I think mostly I am scared.  I am 50 years old ... where will I be 10 or even 5 years from now?  I read an article online where dumpster diving was becoming quite the vogue, but I shudder to think that is what is next.

Anyone work for a small MTSO?
Compared to larger companies?
Why pay on time if MTs will work for an MTSO..
...withtout a fuss and deliver on time?  Of course, this is completely wrong and unethical but how some folks think.  Even if you made a fuss, they'd probably just get someone else who made less of a fuss.  They will pay on time when 1) they can't get any more qualified MTs to work for them (word gets out), and or 2) paying late starts affecting their bottom line (MTs hit them with late fees)  Just IMO...
Poll: Is your MTSO low on work (please name it).
nm
HOW TO SELECT AN MTSO TO WORK FOR?

Here are some observations

Helpful suggestions:

1.         Ensure there will be sufficient work available. If an MTSO does not enough work you will not make enough income.

2.         Ensure the MTSO offers IC/1099, IC/W2 and Employee/W2 wage options.

3.         Make sure you are trained and allowed to work on multiple accounts.

4.         Make sure your scheduling and shifts are properly established.

5.         During the interview and test period find out details about the platforms. Do not accept a position if you believe the platforms is

difficult avoid excepting the position.

6.         Production count should be simple AAMT 65 character lines including spaces and control characters. All other methods will

reduce your earnings.

Avoid the following:

1.         Experience of others may not apply to you. Negative posts on forums about any MTSO represents less than 5% MTSO staff. This means 95% of others are happily working. Make your own decision.

2.         Do not evaluate an MTSO if they off shore. As long as you have sufficient work off shoring should not matter to you.

3.         Do not go for MTSO who may offer bonus or benefits or other goodies if the work load is less than consistent, you will not earn enough.

Hope you find this post useful

Beware of any MTSO who gets their work from...sm
Superior Global.....Seems to be a trend with SG and smaller MTSOs....and putting a DISHONEST MTSO together with SG....that is just a hot mess!!!
I work for a mid-sized MTSO and have 24-hr TAT, its great!

Just how do you think an MTSO will be able to calculate this into the work needing to be done?
:+
Never would. BUT I am not an MTSO. I work as an employee for a company and I see everything sm
that I mentioned in my first post routinely. I don't mean to include all by no means, but don't try to make this out as a dream job. It has already been done and that is just one of of the reasons we are in the sad state we are in.
Transtech just may be sending some of our work to that other MTSO again, and maybe

that small MTSO that they sometimes use to help them out offshores and that is why we MT's at Transtech suddenly have an abundance of work this week -- asking for extra help this week -- quite a new thing with TT.  With the India cables being cut, putting those India MT's out of work, it makes me wonder if that service that TT sometimes uses to do our work maybe offshores.

Just thinking.  Keep those India cables DOWN/CUT !!!!!  We U.S. MT's need the work kept here in the U.S.

I work right for the client.......not the MTSO. I am an IC for a hospital. nm
x
I work for MTSO and know the hospital acct
I work on is a big one, just do not know how many MTs that on this particular account. When you say you correct only erroneous text I am not really sure what you mean by this. I correct everything I see that is an error so can you explain further as far as erroneous. Do you read the entire report as it goes or ?
The MTSO I work for does too. It actually makes me feel more secure sm
in knowing that they must be doing something right to live in a huge new house, drive Jaguars and Hummers and go on nice vacations. They've been around a while and it is nice to know that things are going well. I think that if my MTSO was broke all the time, it would be a sign that he/she did not have a good business sense and I would be worried that the company would be broke all the time too.

I also know that I am not the only one who feels this way. The owners do not flaunt it or rub our noses in it; instead, they have made improvements in the company at the same rate.

Christmas bonus? Not sure if we will get one. Do I care? Not really. I am greatful to be working steadily with a good wage and a good future.
Anyone pay less than $800 a month for family insurance?? I work for a small MTSO
and it's not like I make a ton anyway, but the insurance is so high for my family. I feel like I'm just working for the insurance. My husband is self-employed so he obviously doesnt have insurance through his job to provide this so it is up to me and I'm dying here. Any suggestions? We have tried individual plans but it is a fortune for high deductible and yucky coverage. I need to maybe find a larger company to work for where the benefits are a little better.
I have to agree. My MTSO has had a lot of days recently of slow to no work but there is no way I'
jump from the frying pan into the fire. I can't afford to take a chance. Thanks for sharing your situation.
yeah and the MTSO still charging full price for the work
Most physicians/hospitals don't even know they're dictating into VR so still paying full-on transcription prices while the nationals/MTSOs cut the MT's salary in half. Nice huh?
I totally agree MT30 is an MTSO and a bad one probably... one that makes you work sm
for pennies and on Christmas and every weekend even if your kid has a soccer game.
when docs give mtso a check, then mtso pays you?
nm
Yeah, be careful. I worked for MTSO that "said" they paid for spaces. I had to work really S

hard for my lines.  Took a second job part-time with hospital, same platform (EXText), same font size, etc. and did the same amount of lines in half the time.  Decided to look closer at the MTSO and found out they weren't counting spaces.  I confronted them and all of sudden.  Got lots of apologies and will add to your next paycheck.  Long story short, never happened and I never had any work after that.

There are a lot of unscrupulous MTSOs out there.  They lie, cheat, and steal!

No work here for 1 and 1/2 hours now. Bad thing is my PT gig also has no work.(sm)
I don't mind flexing to get my lines/hours in but when you are balancing more than 1 job it isn't easy. Tonight I am scheduled to work on my PT job so can't make up TT lines unless it is really late this evening and that just ain't gonna happen.
I worked for them previously. Very good, growing co., wonderful MTSO, average pay but lots of work.
xxxxx
OK, another thing is, if the work is low, it will go SM
to the people who have been there longer. That's reality of this field. Goes on everywhere.
Work there also and the only thing I can say
is I am running out of work and I really do not like that. I think they leave you alone to do your work which I really love after being IMd to death at my previous place. I am very happy here- have also seen the many posts against them but I have worked there several years and never had a problem.
Same thing where I work and I love it
especially when it is a difficult dictator or a really fast talker. If I can't understand him/her I will pull up past reports by him/her and look for the same type of report. Helps out big time!!
the thing is, SOMEONE will work for that much, which is an insult to us all!
nm
The important thing is not how many MTs are looking for work. sm
What will matter in the end is your skills. There are thousands of MTs in the country, but unfortunately only a small percentage of them are well trained. Not bragging, just a fact; I know a lot of MTs. If you know the second-edition BOS well (which many companies require), are meticulous in your work, great at researching terms, and are dependable, you can get a job. It helps if you have an extensive background in various areas of transcription.

Put your strongest assets forward in your resume, and keep plugging. There is ALWAYS a shortage of good MTs, even right now. An MTSO may overhire, but if he/she is wise, they will keep the good ones in the end.

It's a little more difficult to get a job right now, but still possible. One of the biggest points is your resume. Make sure it sells your strong points, but is brief enough to be read.

Good luck to you all, especially at the big company.
