Anyone know who this company is?  Their job posting seems to be incomplete.

Penny Pray's company is a small Maine transcription company. They are a good company, and good to work for. The only problem is if you do their psych work, it's very difficult to make decent pay because many dictators are slow speaking, different formats and it just takes too long to get decent pay. If you get their ops, you might do ok.

how much should I make? Right now I make 8 cents for regular typing and 4 cents for VR and I usually have 3000 lines a day. Go figure! I have found that a lot of places, irregardless of how long you have done this, are now unwilling to pay for your experience. I do acute care, by the way.....

I seriously don't know of any. A few that did pay, now stopped paying for headers and footers. Maybe you should recheck into most companies that you stated and see if they are still paying for them

Most of us have been put on crappy accounts and even those are out of work most of the time.  One minute I see so many jobs I could not get to the bottom of the list and then they are all gone within 5 minutes.  Of course this is on swing/grave so probably the time the injuns attack.  I tried mornings too, but there was nothing until almost noon when the work built up again, so I guess we have to work noon to 8 until they find more of of the foreign devils to take over completely
And just what question, pray tell, are you ever so desperate to ask?

A Kool-Aid drinker, too Like the mantra in Field Of Dreams- If it's posted, it must be true! Can't you just hear Johnny Cochran bellowing that out in court? Yes, my tired, old, ex-QA (riiiight!), she said she wasn't interviewed so that's that. She didn't disparage the recruiter either, I suppose. Maybe all of this is just a bad dream- like when you supposedly worked here. Oh, that's right- you quit! Uh-huh, sure. Oh, but wait! Before you did, the owner BEGGED you to stay! Anyone who knows anything about our illustrious leader knows BEGGING is not part of his ballywick, so you must be sharing the same dream. I would love to know when you left, as I'm sure our research would find that you were terminated, or resigned in lieu of. It would certainly explain your sour apples after so much time. I thought when you QUIT a company, you do so to improve your lot in life and show them that you are much better tahn they? How come, after so much time away, there is still such anger and resentment? Could it be that you realize it was a big mistake to quit or in fact you were really let go? I think we know the truth. Enjoy your dream!

You have a point. I have tried to do this for 9 years now with the same company. This last one really has me thinking though. If they keep cutting, pretty soon we will have to pay to work for them because what we get will not even pay our internet bill. I keep going until I find something I am sure will work for me. I do not care for uncertainty especially in this time. I may be not happy, miserable, and completely beside myself over it, but I won't just quit on a whim. Did that once in my younger years and learned to regret it when the paycheck never came.
Pray that you never have a pipe burst in the middle of the night. sm
There is still a demand for graveyard shift plumbers, just as there is a demand for MTs with 'odd' hours, etc. Both just have to find the complementary company.
Penny has only been with KS a month or so. sm
Call Becky at the office or call and talk to whoever answers. Tell them the situation and tell them that you want to work for KS but feel that you have been shuffled. I would bet that they will get it done for you. No company wants a reputation for letting good MTs fall through cracks.
And they don't pay 1 penny of downtime
when the system is down for hours at a time.

I know everyone has their own opinions and experiences with people, but I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Penny Whalen. She is a great recruiter and a great person!!!

I have never heard more woman being catty! Have any of you ever watched the movied called Mean Girls? I have worked with Penny and found her to be communicative, friendly, and out of her way helpful! Have you ever heard that old saying, if you don't have anything nice to say?

If you really think about it, you are not allowed to use contractions in MT so my aprostrophes are not needed. There is no QA patrol on here so your little nitpicking about aprostrophes just goes to show that you have some sort of mental disorder and you really need help.

This is a capitalist society. He is free to charge as much as the market will bear.

If you're tolerating that, then the market holds.

For the trouble, I'd make a surcharge onto the shipping charge as well.

If he did not pay my 1st check within 24 hours of the pay date (absolute proof), I would stop working that very day for him.

It's not even about a gift, really. It's just more about the lack of acknowledgement in general.

I'm sure a lot of MTs, not just MDI people, are feeling a bit disillusioned and unappreciated this week.

about how they may require you to purchase expensive dictation equipment and you would always be out of work.

they say only 2 out of 10 will actually be hired. i applied with them. They send you a tape to transcribe with simple specs. i heard from them about 3 weeks later, and of course i failed.

if you go for it, im sure you'll do better as i only have 1.2 years experience with radiology. good luck.

If I am reading your post correct, it seems that the high producers would not triple their lines but someone transcribing lower lines would see a better increase.  Does that sound about right?


One more question - what is your opinion on the platform for VR?

but I'm not one who believes your company is supplying work to Barbados.

Instead there is an *appearance* of mining the workforce there for a CHEAPER labor force than what you can find in the U.S.

Where are your 200 online students located? In the US?

It sounds as if our experiences were very similar.  I'm leaving at the end of next week.  I can tell from your posts we were on the same large account.


I thought it was just ME.  I was working hard too, trying to learn all the gazillons of doctors and locations, etc. and my line counts were in the toilet.  I have 10 plus years of experience so I'm NOT a newbie.   My DH and I figured I am making about $800/month less than I was a year ago at this time.  Yep, it was THAT bad.


Oh, and nice people.  Really nice people to deal with most of the time.  However, nice isn't paying my bills!!


Anyway, thanks for posting, because it's really good to hear I'm not the only one!  I feel so isolated working there.

I have seen someone posting they had 15

accounts in their profile and that they had no work a couple of months ago.  Who in the world wants 15 sets of account specifics to deal with and hundreds of dictators.


I'm so glad I left Webmedx.  I now have 1 account that  has enough work for me to work 24/7 if I want to.

I was thinking to supplement or do 2 part time.  I have used DQS and really like it, maybe just because I got used to it, I don't know.  I just don't like the feeling of being at the mercy of having income dependent on only one source, especially when things slow down and everyone seems to have TAT of about 30 seconds anymore on what is there.  Anyway, thanks again for the info!

Maybe if i reapply and get rehired they will PAY me the several thousand they already owe me!  Yeah right!  Run as far away as possible.  Seriously though, please share with us the hiring process because I guarantee you at least 9 people are on the lookout and are dying to know.

A lot of people have not kept their contracted promise, at least I gather that, because they now have the prn program where for a lower line rate you can work anytime you want and at any line count you want. Apparently, months ago a lot of people were not living up to their promise, and so they hired to compensate. Now there are those who do keep a promise and run out of work because of the lack of balance. So they put in this prn program so that those of us who do keep the line counts and promises have more work when the prn program kicks in. Problem is, how does an MT keep a full time line promise when work keeps running out. I plan on asking for as many accounts as possible to stay on because work is low everywhere at least from what I can see and this company is at least honest regarding pay and the essentials. I think that it is combination of MDI having to keep client contract with TAT, and the overhiring to compensate when already-hired MTs did not keep their promise. MDI is trying to make up for that now, don't know, however, if enough people don't leave or if enough new accounts are not won, if we will ever be able to all have work.

I have never personally worked with you before, but thank you for posting.  As MTs we have our own frustrations, but I think we sometimes forget that MTSOs are facing their own issues as well.  I imagine it's not easy to balance keeping in TAT and not overhiring, keeping MTs happy and also keeping clients happy.  There is a lot of behind-the-scenes juggling that goes on that we MTs never deal with.  That's part of the reason I am an MT and have no desire to be an MTSO.

This is what I meant above by how a company is saying work this shift as an IC at this line rate.  As an IC, I have the right to work when I choose to work, not when my clients choose.  If my clients want to make demands (and yes I have one client that is an MTSO), then I would become an employee at that point and they must pay my taxes. 


I've seen people post as employees saying they have no work during their shift and are asked to flex, which is also wrong.  It's just crazy how this profession continues to be used and abused and now there are MTs convinced it's okay because they need a job.  It's just a neverending cycle.  JMO.
