How do you feel about Food Stamps/Welfare?

In the way home from school last night, I had to run into the Ameristop to get a gallon of Orange Juice.

Well, as I was pulling in, this lady (about 25) was walking in, sort of rough looking girl.

Well, she was ahead of me in line then and she got her food stamps out, and typically this kind of thing makes me upset. Because, you could see physically anyway, there was nothing wrong with her.

But, maybe there was....... or maybe she lost her job, and is trying to manage. Not that I was being nosey or anything, but there she had 2 Gallons of Milk, Sausage and Biscuit Dough. So, maybe she was trying to get breakfast for her family in the morning. So now all of a sudden I feel guilty.

But, if we weren't in these hard economic times where jobs were scarce, I typically wouldnt be as understanding, because I do feel Welfare is Abused.

What about you?

THEN, another thing......... maybe you will know, Sometimes you see Welfare people ahead of you in line at the grocery store or something, and they ALWAYS have "Name-brand" in their cart. Never Store Brand. Well I shouldnt say Never, but it always seems like your name brands.

Does Welfare require them to get Name Brand?

I DID NOT DRAW WELFARE. I got food stamps
only for a very short time.  I was also a taxpayer then and had been for a number of years before and still continue to be.  Why don't you come down off your high horse and realize that sometimes people need help.  I hope that you and Amy never become disabled and have to rely on government services to help you.
i care about child abuse, welfare fraud, and
dumping of young males to the streets, so they lessen the competition for the multi-wife thing. This is all well-documented. This is not about just polygamy -- which is also against the law, but its the abuse of children and abuse of our welfare system -- all under the banner of religion. If it was just about men taking multiple ADULT wives, the government would not likely have stepped in to even enforce that law.
Food Stamps
I just got back from the store and the lady in front of me had 2 small kids and paid with food stamps.  When I was loading my groceries in my car, she was putting her children in car seats and driving a BRAND NEW CADILLIAC ESCALDE!!  This thing was LOADED!  Grrrrrrrr!
food stamps
The thing is that some people do abuse the system and always will.  But I do think there are people who really need help sometimes.
Food stamps and other help sm
Our local paper this a.m. had an article on how people are eligible for food stamps if less than 40K per year for family. He needs to seek help from the state where you life. You did not cause it and can't cure it. He is letting pride get in his way and playing on your sympathy. If he's depressed, he is eligible for help as well. You are not a bank, a restaurant or a hotel. Been there, done that with a brother, will never, ever be "used" again, my husband and kids come first! Get tough!
Where pray tell do you think food stamps come from?
From the food stamp fairy? I read the entire post. You are counting on someone else to do your job, lady. Talk about sitting home on their behinds. Welfare and food stamps, same thing, government at work.
She mentioned the car. You go apply for food stamps, sm
and see what it takes to qualify.  Maybe you will enjoy that experience.  You have no idea.  Go ahead, I dare you.  Take all you receipts down there, and you children's birth certificates, and all your utility bills, etc, etc.  You will see just how great it is to apply for food stamps, and exactly what you get for that.
It is because poor people get food stamps. right.
x
Tell that to the soldiers using food stamps at the commissary.
nm
I feel that if food stamps are really needed...sm
Then there is nothing wrong with it.
Just because a person is on food stamps doesn't generally mean they are disabled or can't work. Some people on them are those that work for minimum wage and cannot afford to buy groceries especially a single mother who makes minimum wage. Then again some people just don't work at all and get them because they don't want to do any better. It depends. Welfare is lots of times abused.
I wouldn't think people on food stamps would be required to buy name brand. Maybe it is just the person's preference. I don't know.
They resent anybody on aid, especially food stamps, and have no clue what it takes to get them.
x
Just Google Food Stamps and your state abbreviation
Or call your state office for help, i.e., look under CT State, VA State, etc., and ask questions. Around here, they've kind of (New England) let up a little on your assets, used to be you couldn't have two cents in your pocket. Check it out.
Welfare

How do I feel about welfare?

1.  I believe in what the Bible says about if a man asks for you coat, give him you cloak also.  My church teaches that we give if asked, and we have done what we are suppose to.  If they were underserving, then that is on them.

2.  Don't judge.  When my husband and I divorced, I was raising 3 children, working, and going to college to learn to be a MT.  I could barely pay the rent.  The ONLY thing I did not have to worry about was food, because I received food stamps.  I HATED it.  I saw people roll their eyes when I got out my food stamps.  I cried all the way home.  On my birthday, my best friend told me my birthday gift was having my nails done (something I had never done).  I went with her when she had her nails done and thought it was such a luxary.  Well, she took me to get my nails done for my birthday, and someone from my church saw me there.  That person went to my pastor and said they would never help anyone in the church again, because if I could afford to get my nails done, the I did not need help.  Not only was I embarrassed about the situation, but I was hurt that someone had judged me.

3.  Be grateful you don't have to use food stamps.  When I finished school, I was elated after I got a good job and did not have to use food stamps.  When I saw someone having to count out their food stamps in front of me, I was sad for them but glad that they got some help.  I also would busy myself so as to not embarrass them.

Yes, some people abuse the system, but I would rather 10 people abuse the system than 1 person and/or family go hungry.

This is just my opinion.  Please do not bash me.  You can't say anything I have not heard before, believe me.

How do you know she will be on welfare? (nm)
nm
maybe she collects welfare and does not tell you.

This goes toward the conversation on welfare below

Remember that conversation about single moms, welfare and foodstamps?

I was reading an article on MSNBC today.  This man ended up in just the situation I was talking about.  Read the whole article.  Pay attention to the fact that it mentions medical bills and reverse mortgages.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29198366/

Has it been reported they are all on welfare, medicaid, etc??
x
Thank you. Single moms on welfare are not all bad ones.
Women on here who say they have SOOOOO much saved for retirement and then talk about drawing social security burn my behind. It wasn't intended for the well-off to draw in the first place and probably will be gone by the time most of us get old enough to draw it.

This person is obviously overwhelmed with greed, wouldn't you say? In this day and age, with the greedy falling left and right, this one apparently doesn't understand that greedy behavior is no longer PC.
Matrimonial (or shackup) welfare then..I see!
//
If that's not a case for welfare reform, I don't know what is - sm
Wouldn't it make sense for us (as taxpayers) to say: We understand occasionally people have hardships and need food stamps and other help; however, while you are receiving assistance, you must have Norplant (or something that can't be accidentally forgotten) so that you cannot have another child while receiving it? Otherwise we are simply perpetuating the welfare state by enabling unemployed people to have as many kids as they can, and rewarding them to do so.
stamps...
i know when they went up last time, they said something about not having to purchase the extras when they go up again, but I can't remember for sure.  anyone know??  tia!
stamps
have to have the liberty bell on them and the pack will say "forever stamps"
Well, the former welfare recipient has her millions now & feels
regardless if it adversely affects children.  She knows full well that her books are read by children.  Since she has opted to make such a poor decision, I am opting to make a good decision and no longer purchase her books, watch her movies, or buy any products related to her books as she gets a cut on everything.  It's one thing to have a personal opinion about homosexuality, but she didn't have to publicly link it to a character in her books.
Are you sister of poster with tax-welfare issues?
x
It's nice, but food prices insane and food is really bad,
xx
Only if you have Forever stamps....look on
xx
A single mother by choice does not make them a welfare
recipient and/or a bad person. Heck, I would be more inclined to put that person as unselfish and determined. You chose the easy way out, the single mother took on her commitment and took the responsibility.
"The parents", the "older man". The welfare of child

postcard stamps are 26 cents...sm
There used to be a time when you could buy all kinda holiday postcards.  Have you ever made your own postcards outta your old cards?  Just cut off the front, draw a line down the middle, address and send...pinking shears or regular scissors work just fine ....I've done it for the last coupla years and the folks at the post office love it....It's economical and you're recycling as well.   Cat
Stamps go up 1 cent Monday

I first heard of it today, they're blaming it on the cost of gas to deliver mail.  At least this time I won't have all my bills returned for a stupid 1 cent more postage, like happened last time.

If you have stamps with "Forever" written on them

One major suggestion
I would not be consulting juvenile authorities for a 6-year-old's behavior issues.

At this age, she needs to be seen by a child psychologist or psychiatrist who can diagnose the issue and outline a treatment plan.

This is not an unusual problem. She is a child and a conscious is something that is instilled by caretakers...it is not an automatic self development.

Please seek care for her behaviorally - not in the courts at this age.
This major lawsuit had to do with--sm
the insurance company (SF) stating that they would cover and *wind damage* done by hurricane Katrina, but not flooding, as they had no flooding insurance on their policies, but the lawsuit contended that the flooding was still due to hurricane Katrina and should be covered. they won that case, but there is still some hassle over it because a judge did not like the way the wording read concerning some people who filed claims, but did not sue the insurance company. In my opinion, these insurance companies take peoples monies for years and do who knows what with it, and then when something major happens and people need help, they find all kinds of loopholes to not do anything. That is what insurance policies are FOR! but as far as bleach on a rug...no, if I were the insurance company involved in that, I would not pay either. jmo.
Definitely make major changes...
First, I would quit transcribing.

I would establish a foundation to pay for surgery for children and adults with maxillofacial deformities.

My second foundation would help older women - over age 40 - who want to go back to school or want to get some training for a different career.

My third foundation would help working class families send their kids to college.

I would buy a nice house (not a mansion) on a very large piece of land, where I could not hear my neighbors' noise. That house would have a huge library filled with my own books and another room would be a fitness center with a treadmill and some strength training machines. Oh, and I would like to buy a Schwinn bicycle.

When we had a major ice storm last
February, schools were let out early (10 a.m.) and the info was posted on a crawl at the bottom of the TV and on the radio. No parents were called.
It depends what your major was, just like anything
xx
I would have had a different college major - sm
and been smart about saving money then and not getting into debt....and not picking the loser guys I dated until I met my husband at age 29. ---though had things been different I'd probably be married to someone else and have two totally different kids which are the 2 things I would not want to change--
Look at his name-"Science Major".

I never work on major holidays...
because I work for a small company that closes for all major holidays. I've been with them for almost 2 years now and they are definitely one of the best! They even send me a Christmas gift every year! I would never sign up to work for a company that was open on holidays, as I have no desire to work on holidays.
just had a major lawsuit ruling
but these are mainly people down in the coastal areas whose homes were completely leveled or not habitable. Insurance companies should be ashamed of themselves...some of these folks have been paying the same company for 40 to 50 years and when they need them, they get screwed. I hope the homeowners actually get the monies so they can get what should have been theirs in the first place.

We lived further inland, so the winds were strong enough to blow off a roof, or blow rain under a roof, or turn trees over on houses and crush them, but not level a home....but every time a wind comes up or it rains heavy, everyone holds their breath because trees now have weak roots and are easily toppled over, even 2 years later.
Thanks - that is a major factor in my decision (sm)
My children. I feel like I am choosing between my happiness and theirs and of course they should win. They are happy now, but if they had to have visitation with their dad - who is definitely a control freak - I worry about their happiness. But is it better for them to visit him than to live with him. And wouldn't I be showing them that you don't have to live like that by leaving??? it's so hard!
My daughter was about to have major surgery

2 years ago and the surgeon always made me feel like we were keeping him from something more important.  After waiting in the waiting for at least an hour at every appointment, it was discouraging to have him rush in and out in 10 minutes, considering the procedure she was going to have.  Anyway, at our last appointment before the surgery, we had a PA who actually spent time with us, explaining the surgery in detail and answering all our questions.  I was thrilled.

I have also had my share of not great PAs, but this guy wasn't one of them.

Well, if I get a major inheritance, I'll be there
xx
My cat only eats dog food and won't eat cat food or even tuna.
LOL
I am using Angel Food Network for help with food (sm)
Being much more careful not to waste food. No more fast food. Soda only if bought in a two-liter bottle, not singles or fountain. Most of my money waste was spent on food.

Stamps and long distance phone cards...sm
these are favorites among the elderly people I know.
Got to vent. I just found out that a major supermarket
chain where my husband works will be open on Christmas Day. I think it is absolutely disgusting that they would take this major holiday away from their employees. There is absolutely nothing in a grocery store that is so important that it has to be bought on Christmas Day. For pete's sake, if you don't get it before Christmas Day, you don't need it very badly.
I just went through some major stuff that i think may have been related to fibro. sm
I took every narotic you can think of. lortab helped me the best without knocking me out. FYI, it did cause nausea so then i backed down to half a tablet. everything else put me to sleep. i did take BC Powder two of them and that helped some, but gave me an ulcer too so guess you gotta decide what is worse. for me, not being able to work was worse so i needed relief. i also used a heating pad and rice sock when i had to stay away. nothing took the pain totally away though. finally got a medrol dosepak and it cleared up for the severe part anyway. at least i can function now. email me........

I'm in complete agreement. If major problem, everyone
