My daughter is going to be 10 at the end of September and wants a luau themed party. I have decorations, a pinata, party favors and cake, but need something for games. I was thinking about pin the coconut on the palm tree! But not so sure I can draw a decent enough tree and coconuts!! LOL.

Any ideas for games?? Thanks. Also, cant be anything to wild as the party is being held in a party room at Pizza Hut.

Girly Birthday Party Ideas? sm
My daughter is having a "girly" birthday sleepover this weekend.  I have a few ideas, but was wondering if anyone has any more?
Play luau BINGO
Use regular bingo cards and hawaiian colored markers - or pieces. Play for don ho recordings, leis, and coconuts
Does anyone play board games or card games anymore?

My 7-year-old child was invited to a B-day party for a little boy that was also turning 7.  Anyway, when it came to opening gifts, he got Wii game toys, the different controlers and games.  I did not even know the kid had a Wii game, but it seemed like everyone else did.   I bought him a race track and a game of Go Fish.  The race track got an "I already have that" comment and the Go Fish was "what the heck." He did not say that but he kinid of looked at it like that and put it back in the bag.  I wondered if he even knows what Go Fish is.  The only games my child has are board games, card games, those free games you can play on the computer and 1 game that plugs into the TV.  It looks like a joystick and it has 3 games in it.  These games have helped her in her reading because she has to read directions.  She can identify a lot of the ocean fish.

I was treated like an outcast at the party anyway.  I tried to join in conversations with the other mothers, I would get ignored or very short answers, some would actually walk away.  Then one mother actually turned her back to me to talk to another so I would just listen.  They were talking about building houses, they have lots of land blah blah blah.   They were giving each other advice on what to do with it all.   When the conversation turned to how their kids are struggling in this subject or that that is when I got up and left because they toned their conversation down and then shut it off completely when then thought I was listening, so I thought that was my cue  just leave so they can vent to one another about it.  It was more about the teachers expecting too much blah blah blah.   I have known some of these mothers or their spouses since we were little kids.  They really treated me like trash back then.  I thought that now that we were in our 30s, have not had much contact with each other since HS until now that our kids are going to school together, it would be like water under the bridge.  Guess not.  The families  were wealthier than we were (just about every family was wealthier than we were back then lol) but I know they can't have it that good.  Well, actually I don't know what is in their bank account or care.  The only thing I did have over them is my kid is not struggling in school.  She is making straight As on all her subjects.

The only reason I went was because my 7-year-old and the 7-year-old boy are really good friends and I thought that maybe me and the other mother could find something in common.  At school, they are in separable so I really wanted dd to go to help him celebrate his special day.  I could not help but notice that dd played with him more and the others were playing among themselves.  I do worry if that tee's the parents off.  I worry that they are going to discriminate against DD because I was a poor little nobody back in school and they were popular.   I worry that they are going to start refusing to let the little boy play with dd and it will break her heart and hate me.  I take baths, I practice clean living, always have, no drugs, alcohol.  I don't even smoke cigarettes.  I pay my bills.  Everything I own, I got honestly, paid for it myself.  Of course, it isn't as fancy as theirs.  H is not from here, he went to school elsewhere.  I used to worry about that too back when we 1st started dating..Him finding out I was an outcast, dork or whatever and hate me.  Now I worry that my child is going find out and resent me.

Don't play games (SM)
If you change the way you have approached this relationship just to test him, that is playing games and is unecessary.

You should be honest and ask him explaining that it kinda bothers you. If you can't communicate about things, the relationship isn't going anywhere anyhow.

Not calling him just to see how he will react is so high school people!
party games website
http://www.partygamecentral.com/

I did a quick Google search and came up with this website. It looks there are plenty of games that don't require a lot of moving about or other physical-type activity, etc...

Have a great time!!
My sister's kids play video games

constantly and have for a decade. They always have to have the latest game.  She has 4 kids - 3 are obese and one is overweight.

We don't have one because I didn't want to fight about it constantly.  I'm so glad I stuck to my guns.  I know my husband has wanted to get one.  I have 3 kids and they are all very slender.  They aren't athletes but they aren't couch potatoes either.

It's a health issue to me, and also a mental health issue, because they are addictive.

Valentine Party games for sixth graders . . .

Does anyone have appropriate valentine games for sixth graders??  This is a tough age to impress; any help would be greately appreciated!!!

Gamers are people who play video games. Gaming is
the business of developing video games. The poster probably meant people who like to have fun. If the board has people on it who like to have fun I say great. A lot better than the gripers. So, I should say, is the board being taken over by gripers LOL. Sorry did not mean to make a joke at the OP's expense, but that is like asking if sadness is being taken over by joy. IMHO.
Onto NY Eve - do we go out, host a party, or play it dull

90th Birthday Party
My sister and her boyfriend are planning a party.  He turns 50 on Oct. 5 and she turns 40 on Oct.6.  They are having a 90th B-day party.  They have rented a hall and will have a DJ.  There is a budget but it is flexible.  Anyone have any cute clever suggestions?
Daughter's 11th birthday party
My daughter's b-day is in September and I'd appreciate any suggestions for a party.  She's at the age where I don't want it to be too babyish, yet don't want it too mature.  Want to have it at our home too.  We have a pool but don't want to plan anything around that in case the weather is not cooperating.  Thanks!
Daughter wants to attend birthday party

My daughter is 10 and her friend will be 11.  Her friend has been to our house numerous times and she is a SWEET girl.  HOWEVER, her parents and their home is incredibly dirty.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not a neat freak myself but their home is filfthy, as are they.  Took their daughter home one day and they came outside, along with one of their younger sons who was in his underwear that looked soiled/brown/gray.  Her mother seems nice enough but I get the feeling there is some sort of mental illness going on.  Every time I've been around her I can tell she has major hygiene issues, built up plaque on her teeth and dirt under her nails, dirty clothes, etc.  I'm not trying to be judgmental; I just don't want to allow my daughter to go to their house.  Her friend is more than welcome here.  I'm concerned this is going to possibly cause friction with the girls.  I've talked with the mother of another friend in the group and she understands where I'm coming from, as she feels the same way.  Wondering if any of you may have any suggestions for me.  I know the girls are getting older and I'm sure my daughter's friend is realizing that her friends aren't allowed to her house, yet she can visit them.  I really feel for her and I wonder how many girls will actually show for her party, yet I don't want to run the risk of my daughter coming home with lice or something.

I am invited to a Birthday party for a friend of mine, whom

I have known for many years. Her mother and my mother were friends. Her mother died a few years ago.

The problem is that I am a nonsmoker and my family all 100% nonsmokers. I maintain a smoke free environment at all costs. My friend smokes heavily as well as about 95% of her family. They will all be there. I have some health issues, not respiratory, and I do not want the second-hand smoke exposure. In addition, my eyes burn, my hair and clothes reek of smoke, etc. What do I do?  This is a special birthday for her marking a milestone.  If I don't go it won't look good. . . if I do go I will be very heavily exposed to the smoking for the duration of the party, I am sure. What do do?  Thanks for any advice you can give.

Update on birthday party I attended for friend SM

A few days ago I posted about being invited to a birthday party for a friend and was afraid of being exposed to cigarette smoke. I was hoping this was in a smoke free environment, and just as I thought I was not there 15 minutes before her daughter (who is battling cancer at the age of 39 and has been for 5 1/2 years) lit the first cigarette. Her cancer has now returned for the fourth time, this time in the mandible and breast.  Immediately three other people started smoking and from there it went haywire. The guest of honor had now even arrived before I wanted to leave. My eyes were burning like fire.  I stayed 2 hours, ate very little, as all the food and cake were sitting out in this environment. I left before they even served the cake andI made a lame excuse about having to do some shopping at the mall. One thing was true . . I could not wait to get to the mall, went into the restoom and washed my hands and arms and splashed water in my eyes.

I made my mind up today that never, ever again do I compromise on this issue. The first question I ask is whether or not it is a smoke free environment. If not, count me out. I spent those two hours in a room that could not even be considered a large room with 85% of the people smoking heavily, even while we ate. To top it off, went outside and had a parking ticket on my car!

Any ideas on a birthday message
for my 90 y/o aunt?? Her daughter wants everyone in the family to send her a card to commemorate her 90th birthday. I don't know her very well, have only seen her maybe 10 times in my life, so I can't really say anything like how much a part of my life she was, etc. I was hoping someone had an idea on a line or two to say regarding her 90th birthday. TIA!!!
Creative ideas needed for an adoption party...sm

Hi,

We are finalizing the adoption on Monday of our 7-year-old foster daughter.  We're working on setting a date for a party to honor this event and are trying to come up with some creative ideas of how to make this extra special but without spending a cazillion bucks.

Please post your ideas.  Thanks!

Does anyone know if you can play Xbox 360 games on regular xbox? sm
My daughter wants the guitar hero game in the worst way for Christmas, but I am only finding it for Xbox 360 and Play station 2. We have a regular Xbox and a game cube. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
Looking for simple game ideas for first grade Christmas party. nm

Any ideas on a gift for my daughter's 16th birthday?? I have been asking her for weeks and she -s

really hasn't given me any ideas.  She does not want a class ring now (she is a sophomore this year).  She does not like her birthstone but does like pearls and emeralds but has not really given me a straight answer as to whether she would prefer a ring, earrings or a necklace.  She plays a lot of sports so I am not sure she will be able to keep track of nice jewelry either and I really don't want to spend good $$ if she might lose it.  I only have a week left and wanted to get her something special because it is her 16th but just can't come up with anything nor can I get her to give me a good idea.  Thanks.

Looking for graduation party ideas for son's graduation. I have a few friends helping me sm
but any new ideas would be great too. This is my first born graduating so I'm kind of clueless what I'm doing. One friend suggested a poster board with lots of his pictures. My sister suggested putting his trophies, awards, acceptance letter from his college, etc. on a table. As far as food, we are having sloppy joes, meatballs, pulled pork sandwiches, possibly some sausage sandwiches, fried chicken, pasta salad, macaroni salad, german potato salad, olives, pickles, nuts, cookies, chips/pretzels, dip, cookies, cake, etc. Any more ideas?? I'll be doing this three more times (oldest son is 18, youngest son is 3 so I have a while in between - hopefully I'll be a "pro" by the time the youngest graduates!! XXXXX)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU. Hope it is a good one. nm

Help with Pre-k Christmas games...

I am in charge of my son's pre-k parties and have yet to come up with a great game for his Christmas party tomorrow, and I do not have a clue what we can play! Any suggestions or links on line that I can look for? Want something simple and with minimal work and or props.

100% ban on all video games

For the last five years there has been a ban of video games in my house.  My husband and my son were turning into flippin zombies.  We started going on hikes in the mountains instead and now participate in extracurricular activities at the high school and volunteer.

TV has not been banned yet, as I think there would be a mutiny....

My DH works 2nd shift and does not always get to see our son's FB games and sm
never can go to his practices. I sit with other parents rather than alone or with strangers. Sometimes it is moms, sometimes dads. It is really the same as sitting with other fans at a pro baseball or football games. It is easier and more fun to sit with someone that shares the excitement with you. It is 100% innocent most of the time. In fact, I have not seen it otherwise EVER.
My best friend, Cat is in Tenn. & usually is up on all the games. It's a big

I think she might mean the word games on the Gab Board??
Maybe she doesn't like that?? Otherwise, I have no idea either.
To Moderator: Can we please have a games board?

Besides the word association, there are other fun things to do which we can post on breaks for typing.  Before, we had fun on the gab board but it polluted (I admit) the ability of people to read regular gabbing.  Do you think you could consider making a board for word games, and other things like that? It would be appreciated. Thanks for your consideration.

We do...we have lots of board games..
while my son has video games, he likes board games just as much because he knows we will play them with him...it is good quality time also!!!
We do not ban video games or TV in our house BUT
We do limit them. When Santa brought the gaming systems he also brought a contract for the parent's and child to sign limiting the amount of video games on week nights, weekends, and that it is at the parent's descretion if other things need to be completed first. We have never had an argument about video games in my house and my son is 10.

He does not have the latest and greatest, and doesn't have many games. Part of Santa's deal was that any games would be as holiday/birthday gifts OR the child has to save up 1/2 the money and the parent's will pitch in the other 1/2. Surprising how much they don't want things that use their own money.

We also make a point to play board games and such as a family. He helps with laundry, dishes, etc. and of course homework must be done (and checked by parent's) before any video/TV time.

It has never been a problem at our house but I also think he knows that I would not hesitate to toss the sucker out the window if it did become a problem.
Video games/systems
I refuse to buy a system myself.  I have three kids and thought about getting the Wii last year at Christmas time but decided against it.  My kids are very sport oriented and I think a game system would just take away from the active side of sports.  My parents have a Wii and we will play when we go over there so I think they get their fill of it.  My friends/family think I'm crazy because I won't buy one but I'm not changing my mind:)  I don't think people are crazy if they have one, I just don't want one.  Funny how my friends/family don't like me to have my own opinion!! (sorry that last part was me venting)
Happy Birthday to you, then you can wish me a happy birthday on Friday! sm

Boy's 7th B-day party
I am trying to think of a birthday party idea for 7-year-old boys at home.  We usually do bowling or Chuck E Cheese-type party, but this year we are trying to not spend as much on the party because we are going on a big vacation 2 weeks after that.  I am thinking scavenger hunt in the back yard, but any ideas would be great.  Thanks!
