Don't play games (SM)

Posted By: ANON on 2007-05-28
In Reply to: Dating question-have things changed? (sm) - startingover

If you change the way you have approached this relationship just to test him, that is playing games and is unecessary.

You should be honest and ask him explaining that it kinda bothers you. If you can't communicate about things, the relationship isn't going anywhere anyhow.

Not calling him just to see how he will react is so high school people!

Does anyone play board games or card games anymore?

My 7-year-old child was invited to a B-day party for a little boy that was also turning 7.  Anyway, when it came to opening gifts, he got Wii game toys, the different controlers and games.  I did not even know the kid had a Wii game, but it seemed like everyone else did.   I bought him a race track and a game of Go Fish.  The race track got an "I already have that" comment and the Go Fish was "what the heck." He did not say that but he kinid of looked at it like that and put it back in the bag.  I wondered if he even knows what Go Fish is.  The only games my child has are board games, card games, those free games you can play on the computer and 1 game that plugs into the TV.  It looks like a joystick and it has 3 games in it.  These games have helped her in her reading because she has to read directions.  She can identify a lot of the ocean fish.

I was treated like an outcast at the party anyway.  I tried to join in conversations with the other mothers, I would get ignored or very short answers, some would actually walk away.  Then one mother actually turned her back to me to talk to another so I would just listen.  They were talking about building houses, they have lots of land blah blah blah.   They were giving each other advice on what to do with it all.   When the conversation turned to how their kids are struggling in this subject or that that is when I got up and left because they toned their conversation down and then shut it off completely when then thought I was listening, so I thought that was my cue  just leave so they can vent to one another about it.  It was more about the teachers expecting too much blah blah blah.   I have known some of these mothers or their spouses since we were little kids.  They really treated me like trash back then.  I thought that now that we were in our 30s, have not had much contact with each other since HS until now that our kids are going to school together, it would be like water under the bridge.  Guess not.  The families  were wealthier than we were (just about every family was wealthier than we were back then lol) but I know they can't have it that good.  Well, actually I don't know what is in their bank account or care.  The only thing I did have over them is my kid is not struggling in school.  She is making straight As on all her subjects.

The only reason I went was because my 7-year-old and the 7-year-old boy are really good friends and I thought that maybe me and the other mother could find something in common.  At school, they are in separable so I really wanted dd to go to help him celebrate his special day.  I could not help but notice that dd played with him more and the others were playing among themselves.  I do worry if that tee's the parents off.  I worry that they are going to discriminate against DD because I was a poor little nobody back in school and they were popular.   I worry that they are going to start refusing to let the little boy play with dd and it will break her heart and hate me.  I take baths, I practice clean living, always have, no drugs, alcohol.  I don't even smoke cigarettes.  I pay my bills.  Everything I own, I got honestly, paid for it myself.  Of course, it isn't as fancy as theirs.  H is not from here, he went to school elsewhere.  I used to worry about that too back when we 1st started dating..Him finding out I was an outcast, dork or whatever and hate me.  Now I worry that my child is going find out and resent me.

My sister's kids play video games

constantly and have for a decade. They always have to have the latest game.  She has 4 kids - 3 are obese and one is overweight.

We don't have one because I didn't want to fight about it constantly.  I'm so glad I stuck to my guns.  I know my husband has wanted to get one.  I have 3 kids and they are all very slender.  They aren't athletes but they aren't couch potatoes either.

It's a health issue to me, and also a mental health issue, because they are addictive.

Anyone have any ideas on games to play at a luau birthday party? sm

My daughter is going to be 10 at the end of September and wants a luau themed party. I have decorations, a pinata, party favors and cake, but need something for games. I was thinking about pin the coconut on the palm tree! But not so sure I can draw a decent enough tree and coconuts!! LOL.

Any ideas for games?? Thanks. Also, cant be anything to wild as the party is being held in a party room at Pizza Hut.

Gamers are people who play video games. Gaming is
the business of developing video games. The poster probably meant people who like to have fun. If the board has people on it who like to have fun I say great. A lot better than the gripers. So, I should say, is the board being taken over by gripers LOL. Sorry did not mean to make a joke at the OP's expense, but that is like asking if sadness is being taken over by joy. IMHO.
Does anyone know if you can play Xbox 360 games on regular xbox? sm
My daughter wants the guitar hero game in the worst way for Christmas, but I am only finding it for Xbox 360 and Play station 2. We have a regular Xbox and a game cube. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Help with Pre-k Christmas games...

I am in charge of my son's pre-k parties and have yet to come up with a great game for his Christmas party tomorrow, and I do not have a clue what we can play! Any suggestions or links on line that I can look for? Want something simple and with minimal work and or props.

100% ban on all video games

For the last five years there has been a ban of video games in my house.  My husband and my son were turning into flippin zombies.  We started going on hikes in the mountains instead and now participate in extracurricular activities at the high school and volunteer.

TV has not been banned yet, as I think there would be a mutiny....

My DH works 2nd shift and does not always get to see our son's FB games and sm
never can go to his practices. I sit with other parents rather than alone or with strangers. Sometimes it is moms, sometimes dads. It is really the same as sitting with other fans at a pro baseball or football games. It is easier and more fun to sit with someone that shares the excitement with you. It is 100% innocent most of the time. In fact, I have not seen it otherwise EVER.
My best friend, Cat is in Tenn. & usually is up on all the games. It's a big

party games website
http://www.partygamecentral.com/

I did a quick Google search and came up with this website. It looks there are plenty of games that don't require a lot of moving about or other physical-type activity, etc...

Have a great time!!
I think she might mean the word games on the Gab Board??
Maybe she doesn't like that?? Otherwise, I have no idea either.
To Moderator: Can we please have a games board?

Besides the word association, there are other fun things to do which we can post on breaks for typing.  Before, we had fun on the gab board but it polluted (I admit) the ability of people to read regular gabbing.  Do you think you could consider making a board for word games, and other things like that? It would be appreciated. Thanks for your consideration.

We do...we have lots of board games..
while my son has video games, he likes board games just as much because he knows we will play them with him...it is good quality time also!!!
We do not ban video games or TV in our house BUT
We do limit them. When Santa brought the gaming systems he also brought a contract for the parent's and child to sign limiting the amount of video games on week nights, weekends, and that it is at the parent's descretion if other things need to be completed first. We have never had an argument about video games in my house and my son is 10.

He does not have the latest and greatest, and doesn't have many games. Part of Santa's deal was that any games would be as holiday/birthday gifts OR the child has to save up 1/2 the money and the parent's will pitch in the other 1/2. Surprising how much they don't want things that use their own money.

We also make a point to play board games and such as a family. He helps with laundry, dishes, etc. and of course homework must be done (and checked by parent's) before any video/TV time.

It has never been a problem at our house but I also think he knows that I would not hesitate to toss the sucker out the window if it did become a problem.
Video games/systems
I refuse to buy a system myself.  I have three kids and thought about getting the Wii last year at Christmas time but decided against it.  My kids are very sport oriented and I think a game system would just take away from the active side of sports.  My parents have a Wii and we will play when we go over there so I think they get their fill of it.  My friends/family think I'm crazy because I won't buy one but I'm not changing my mind:)  I don't think people are crazy if they have one, I just don't want one.  Funny how my friends/family don't like me to have my own opinion!! (sorry that last part was me venting)
Need some adult simple games for Christmas

Played a game called White Elephant before and the group loved. Want something really simple to entertain my lovely guests for that day. We are all over the 50 year range so nothing too involved, heck we could not remember! Thanks!

more fun and games with funny movie quotes....sm

Love board games. Buy them Blokus. It is the ...sm
most fantastic game and can be played by children and adults alike. I bought it by accident last Christmas and it was the favorite gift.

How to get my CD to play
Okay fellow MTers, need some help on this. Have just gotten a new CD today from high school reunion and don't have a clue as to how to play on my PC. Insert it,  blinks and nothing happens. What do I do next? Thanks in advance.
You should be able to play in on the DVD...
and record it on the VHS if it is both player and recorder.
I would play..
in the symphony or else would own a zoo, the only thing being at the zoo the animals would live forever, those are my fantasies.
I don't know how it will play out but (sm)

Can't wait to see your reply - and thank you for proving me correct in advance!

LMAO!!!!!
does he play sports?
Which sports does he like? Does he need equipment?
I would play it cool
If it's meant to be, it will happen.

You're not really sure he is interested. Your gut tells you he is, and he probably is, but if he is, he will definitely make the moves.

If you act to eager... well...

And, if you do call and he was just being nice with his note, then you'll feel silly (however, I'm thinking a handwritten note is pretty personal).

There are ways to let him know you're interested. Just a look works on must guys ;-).

Also, be sure he's not hitched as well!

Seriously, be patient. Just do a lot of "thinking" about him. He'll catch those vibes too, trust me!

Good luck, sweetie.

Marriage - Great.
Lack of kids - I regret not having the energy, interest, selflessness, or hope and faith to have kids, but I have never felt the need to have kids. I think you are supposed to see your mom enjoying motherhood, and it appeared to me to be very unsatisfying for my mom. I can still remember the switch from playing with baby dolls to playing with stuffed animals instead.
Help with play date

About a month ago my I took my 5 yo  swimming and invited one of her friends and her mom.  The two girls played for a good 2 hours until another one of dd close friends showed up so she started playing with him.  Well this upset dd little girl friend and she came to me saying "dd won't play with me. make her play with me. "  I called dd over and said that we invited suzie over so introduce her to Joe and you all three play together.  This just upset dd and made her mad at suzie.  I was not sure what to do but suzie's mom said it was time to go anyway so they left.

Well, just yesterday MIL took me and dd golfing.  DD met another friend and together they played.  The went across the street to the playground then a friend of the other little girl showed up.  Well, the other little girl dropped dd and started playing with her little friend.  DD got upset adn said sandy won't play with me.  I said well, I image you're feeling what Suzie felt when Joe came to the pool.  DD just sat there mad.  MIL said Introduce yourself to the other little girl. DD did not want to do that.  Then MIL said well lets go play on the slide.  DD went and played but she was still upset, she walked up to Sandy and said "I am not playing with you anymore not even at school."  Sandy replys, "That is okay, I have a sister to play with."  MIL told dd not to talk to Sandyl that she wasn't worth it and out loud too.  (Luckily Sandy's parents were not there).   I just said Oh MIL.  I started talking to Sandy.  I asked her if she was ready for school.  Sandy and I had a nice little conversation.  It kind of broke the tension between them.  I am sure all is forgotten by now.

I was just wondering how other parents handle these situations.  TIA

does anybody play Peggle?
I bought the full version.  It's such an original game!!!
Sure, let them play the lottery..
Then, I think they should have to compensate their victims for the rest of their lives for all the heck they went through and will go through. If they don't want to do that then they shouldnt be allowed to play the lottery. They are criminals.
See link - play JM on your CPU

We did this play when I was in college sm
I was doing props and even backstage I had to be careful not to get too emotional about it or I would miss my cue. And that scene in the movie in the cemetary just makes me bawl. When I was 10, my aunt and 3-year-old cousin were killed in a car accident, and that movie always makes me think of her and her other child, who survived the accident. He is in his 20s now.
I play piano............. sm

but I think that would be a bit heavy around my neck!

This is really nice.  You do good work.  Have you considered putting it on Etsy?

Happy Anniversary!

100% in accordance with you, our parents did not play
when it came to things like this. There are not that many kids who have medical issues to have to do this on a constant basis. I once had a child eating at my home that wanted to slurp their food and they were sent out to eat on the porch. I do not put up with this. I call to your attention and if you want to continue, then you suffer the consequences. How dare parents take up for this kind of action. This is why all these nanny shows on on today, how to handle the kids. Shame on all of you who uphold this behavior.
I think you're right - I did tell them not to play that way anymore (sm)
I told them they could hurt her and that they can't play rough with her like they do with me. I do wish she would understand that they are kids though. They haven't intentionally been mean and if they were, they would be in trouble!
Play luau BINGO
Use regular bingo cards and hawaiian colored markers - or pieces. Play for don ho recordings, leis, and coconuts
We play the dictionary game. (sm)
You can buy it, but all you really need is a dictionary, pieces of paper and pencils, and a bunch of people who are good at making stuff up.

The way we play it, not only does the person who chose the word and tricks people get points for each person he tricks, but anybody whose wrong answer gets voted for collects points too. It's hilarious.
We play also but call it Turkey Leg. It really is fun. nm
!
he wants your attention; take an hour and play with him
