Does anyone play board games or card games anymore?

My 7-year-old child was invited to a B-day party for a little boy that was also turning 7.  Anyway, when it came to opening gifts, he got Wii game toys, the different controlers and games.  I did not even know the kid had a Wii game, but it seemed like everyone else did.   I bought him a race track and a game of Go Fish.  The race track got an "I already have that" comment and the Go Fish was "what the heck." He did not say that but he kinid of looked at it like that and put it back in the bag.  I wondered if he even knows what Go Fish is.  The only games my child has are board games, card games, those free games you can play on the computer and 1 game that plugs into the TV.  It looks like a joystick and it has 3 games in it.  These games have helped her in her reading because she has to read directions.  She can identify a lot of the ocean fish.

I was treated like an outcast at the party anyway.  I tried to join in conversations with the other mothers, I would get ignored or very short answers, some would actually walk away.  Then one mother actually turned her back to me to talk to another so I would just listen.  They were talking about building houses, they have lots of land blah blah blah.   They were giving each other advice on what to do with it all.   When the conversation turned to how their kids are struggling in this subject or that that is when I got up and left because they toned their conversation down and then shut it off completely when then thought I was listening, so I thought that was my cue  just leave so they can vent to one another about it.  It was more about the teachers expecting too much blah blah blah.   I have known some of these mothers or their spouses since we were little kids.  They really treated me like trash back then.  I thought that now that we were in our 30s, have not had much contact with each other since HS until now that our kids are going to school together, it would be like water under the bridge.  Guess not.  The families  were wealthier than we were (just about every family was wealthier than we were back then lol) but I know they can't have it that good.  Well, actually I don't know what is in their bank account or care.  The only thing I did have over them is my kid is not struggling in school.  She is making straight As on all her subjects.

The only reason I went was because my 7-year-old and the 7-year-old boy are really good friends and I thought that maybe me and the other mother could find something in common.  At school, they are in separable so I really wanted dd to go to help him celebrate his special day.  I could not help but notice that dd played with him more and the others were playing among themselves.  I do worry if that tee's the parents off.  I worry that they are going to discriminate against DD because I was a poor little nobody back in school and they were popular.   I worry that they are going to start refusing to let the little boy play with dd and it will break her heart and hate me.  I take baths, I practice clean living, always have, no drugs, alcohol.  I don't even smoke cigarettes.  I pay my bills.  Everything I own, I got honestly, paid for it myself.  Of course, it isn't as fancy as theirs.  H is not from here, he went to school elsewhere.  I used to worry about that too back when we 1st started dating..Him finding out I was an outcast, dork or whatever and hate me.  Now I worry that my child is going find out and resent me.

Games
Hello, i was wondering if you'd be willing to sell just the games and if so how many dies she have?
games
Hey guys.. Are there any gamers on this board... I am an avid gamer.. My way of relaxing.  Just wondering. Thanks
games
You are right about Myst. Played that one.. Took forever. I like role playing story games as well. Playing Halo 3 now.. Halo is great. Also like horror games like Silent Hill and Condemned. Glad my child is grown. My husband is big gamer too. He plays Guild Wars.. all the time. Glad we love each other.
Don't play games (SM)
If you change the way you have approached this relationship just to test him, that is playing games and is unecessary.

You should be honest and ask him explaining that it kinda bothers you. If you can't communicate about things, the relationship isn't going anywhere anyhow.

Not calling him just to see how he will react is so high school people!
Help with Pre-k Christmas games...

I am in charge of my son's pre-k parties and have yet to come up with a great game for his Christmas party tomorrow, and I do not have a clue what we can play! Any suggestions or links on line that I can look for? Want something simple and with minimal work and or props.

100% ban on all video games

For the last five years there has been a ban of video games in my house.  My husband and my son were turning into flippin zombies.  We started going on hikes in the mountains instead and now participate in extracurricular activities at the high school and volunteer.

TV has not been banned yet, as I think there would be a mutiny....

My DH works 2nd shift and does not always get to see our son's FB games and sm
never can go to his practices. I sit with other parents rather than alone or with strangers. Sometimes it is moms, sometimes dads. It is really the same as sitting with other fans at a pro baseball or football games. It is easier and more fun to sit with someone that shares the excitement with you. It is 100% innocent most of the time. In fact, I have not seen it otherwise EVER.
My best friend, Cat is in Tenn. & usually is up on all the games. It's a big

party games website
http://www.partygamecentral.com/

I did a quick Google search and came up with this website. It looks there are plenty of games that don't require a lot of moving about or other physical-type activity, etc...

Have a great time!!
I think she might mean the word games on the Gab Board??
Maybe she doesn't like that?? Otherwise, I have no idea either.
To Moderator: Can we please have a games board?

Besides the word association, there are other fun things to do which we can post on breaks for typing.  Before, we had fun on the gab board but it polluted (I admit) the ability of people to read regular gabbing.  Do you think you could consider making a board for word games, and other things like that? It would be appreciated. Thanks for your consideration.

We do...we have lots of board games..
while my son has video games, he likes board games just as much because he knows we will play them with him...it is good quality time also!!!
We do not ban video games or TV in our house BUT
We do limit them. When Santa brought the gaming systems he also brought a contract for the parent's and child to sign limiting the amount of video games on week nights, weekends, and that it is at the parent's descretion if other things need to be completed first. We have never had an argument about video games in my house and my son is 10.

He does not have the latest and greatest, and doesn't have many games. Part of Santa's deal was that any games would be as holiday/birthday gifts OR the child has to save up 1/2 the money and the parent's will pitch in the other 1/2. Surprising how much they don't want things that use their own money.

We also make a point to play board games and such as a family. He helps with laundry, dishes, etc. and of course homework must be done (and checked by parent's) before any video/TV time.

It has never been a problem at our house but I also think he knows that I would not hesitate to toss the sucker out the window if it did become a problem.
Video games/systems
I refuse to buy a system myself.  I have three kids and thought about getting the Wii last year at Christmas time but decided against it.  My kids are very sport oriented and I think a game system would just take away from the active side of sports.  My parents have a Wii and we will play when we go over there so I think they get their fill of it.  My friends/family think I'm crazy because I won't buy one but I'm not changing my mind:)  I don't think people are crazy if they have one, I just don't want one.  Funny how my friends/family don't like me to have my own opinion!! (sorry that last part was me venting)
Need some adult simple games for Christmas

Played a game called White Elephant before and the group loved. Want something really simple to entertain my lovely guests for that day. We are all over the 50 year range so nothing too involved, heck we could not remember! Thanks!

more fun and games with funny movie quotes....sm

"When I'm good I'm very good, but when I'm bad I'm better!"

Here's your clue: In the same movie another line was used..."Why don't you come up and see me sometime?"   Cat

chocolate. Slots or table games?

Love board games. Buy them Blokus. It is the ...sm
most fantastic game and can be played by children and adults alike. I bought it by accident last Christmas and it was the favorite gift.
Valentine Party games for sixth graders . . .

Does anyone have appropriate valentine games for sixth graders??  This is a tough age to impress; any help would be greately appreciated!!!

Pogo.com has free games with chat rooms - nm

My sister's kids play video games

constantly and have for a decade. They always have to have the latest game.  She has 4 kids - 3 are obese and one is overweight.

We don't have one because I didn't want to fight about it constantly.  I'm so glad I stuck to my guns.  I know my husband has wanted to get one.  I have 3 kids and they are all very slender.  They aren't athletes but they aren't couch potatoes either.

It's a health issue to me, and also a mental health issue, because they are addictive.

Anyone have any good/unique baby shower games?
My oldest daughter is having a baby at the end of June and I am throwing a baby shower. I would like to do a couple of simple games. Any ideas???? Thanks in advance.
Once they get their pizza and the DVDs going, they'll yak all night & have a blast w/o any games

Anyone have any ideas on games to play at a luau birthday party? sm

My daughter is going to be 10 at the end of September and wants a luau themed party. I have decorations, a pinata, party favors and cake, but need something for games. I was thinking about pin the coconut on the palm tree! But not so sure I can draw a decent enough tree and coconuts!! LOL.

Any ideas for games?? Thanks. Also, cant be anything to wild as the party is being held in a party room at Pizza Hut.

Gamers are people who play video games. Gaming is
the business of developing video games. The poster probably meant people who like to have fun. If the board has people on it who like to have fun I say great. A lot better than the gripers. So, I should say, is the board being taken over by gripers LOL. Sorry did not mean to make a joke at the OP's expense, but that is like asking if sadness is being taken over by joy. IMHO.
Thanks, so scary
I put my cats in the powder room with their blanket in the inner part of the house. I watched TV and was ready to join them as soon as I was told to take cover as was being told to people just down I-75 from me. Like I said, rotation 2 miles away and that is too close for me. Live on a high hill and last year tornado touched down in exactly the same place where rotation was today. Hope I have missed the bullet for this time. There has been damage though in my state from a tornado today. Thanks, I was praying also.
A scary day for NY

Yes, it's very scary (sm)
I remember when the study came out in a health magazine back in the ྖs. I found this link, which tells more of the story than I remember from the health magazine article.

http://www.all-natural.com/microwa1.html

I've been told I'm an alarmist (even a whacko!)....so I don't really talk about these things very much. My own family doesn't believe in much of this either, and I won't go into it here in great detail. But let me just say this:

The best thing to do is to be informed, and then each of us can make the decisions for ourselves, of what we put into our bodies, or on it, etc.

For myself, I do not to use a microwave.

I do not buy genetically modified food, if I know what it is, and can help it, that is. Corn is the scariest thing out there right now, that's in so many different foods/drinks:

http://www.truefoodnow.org/shoppersguide/guide_printable.html#baking

I buy organic food and non-hormone and non-antibiotic meats, non-irradiated as well.

I use only biodegradable household cleaners, nothing toxic.

I do not use flouride toothpaste or antibiotics that are fluoroquinolones.

I do not to use a deodorant that has aluminum in it.

I will not have any vaccinations that have mercury in them.

I now get only porcelain fillings, no more amalgam (silver, mercury). It's on my wish list to get all the old mercury out of my mouth, and I've been doing it slowly.

I also stay out of the sun, because I have fair skin, and skin cancer runs in my family.

I try to make as many healthy choices as I can.

Like I said, though, all we can do is inform ourselves. Find out everything you can on things that may be poisoning us, without our even knowing it. Then choose how you go about living your life.

yep very very scary

I was born in the 50s...so I'm old enough to BE your mother *snickers*  *winks@U*

In my opinion, this country slowly but surely is becoming a dictatorship....I'm just glad my kid is an adult now and I don't have to face these Gardisil issue(s), until she has children of her own.  And if she has a girl - I'm against that mandatory thing......

if we raise our girls right, we can cut down on these problems.  I raised mine right and she waited...and listened....I think I just lucked out....but I didn't stop talking and still don't...*laughs*

and on her myspace page she has put me as Her Hero....*flattered* and *humbled* by this kid!!!  We have a great relationship, something I didn't have with my own mother...(though had it with my father and is probably why I didn't have it with my mother, and they remained married for 48 hours until her death....)

My Dad was THE BEST!  They don't make 'em like they made 'em in the beginning of the prior century....I always told him.  He died a couple of years ago, I miss him badly...I never did miss my mother...oh that's not entirely true - I missed her growing up while she was alive...(her social life was more important than her kids, the post WWII moms, some of them were like this....)

Keep The Faith is what I think.....

me too - it is scary, isn't it? (sm)
We have had our money split up for severaal years. In fact my husband recently bought a $7,000 boat without even discussing it with me :(
that is scary
I'm glad you had the dogs there with you - I too never lock my doors - also living in a rural area. I have dogs also. . but I may start locking my doors when I am alone. .
Scary isn't it?
I don't have any advice for you, but I have an 11 year old son. Found out that lots of kids in his MIDDLE SCHOOL are having sex, drinking, smoking, and using drugs. This is in a 'supposedly good' school in a suburb of Atlanta. There is also some gang activity. I will be homeschooling him starting this fall.

I am so sorry to hear of your problems with your daughter. I hope that someone here is able to offer you some sound advice. I know that it is not a good feeling to have someone living in your house whom you feel you cannot trust.
Not scary now, on TV, but REALLY scary in the
Best line:

"I think we're gonna need a bigger boat."
He is scary sometimes...sm
I have told my mom on more than one occasion he is not right in the head. I think he has mental issues. He does not demonstrate normal behavior at all.
I agree his girlfriend can sew it back on. You know what is funny is his girlfriend doesn't know how he REALLY is. He hides that side of himself. My mom said one day it will come out and she will see him for who he really is.
He thinks nothing of calling one time right after another if you don't answer the phone and will ride by and spy on you to see if you are home or just not answering the phone. My mom did have to threaten to call 911 one night though cause he was on her front porch banging on the windows and the walls and crying and yelling to let him in please. She had to threaten to call 911 before he would leave.
Can you say insane?!
You got it!!! I am so real, it's scary *LOL*

And I never tried to push my upbringing/religion onto anybody ever in life and now I'm not into organized religion but very into G_D!  And I would never push my ways down anyone else's gullet.

very scary indeed - (I used to live in AZ)....no msg

I think the scary thing about #2 is - sm
not so much that the ad is out there, but that it will probably get a ton of responses.  The Internet is a wonderful and very frightening tool.
Vegas scary?
My husband and I visit all the time- he has nights when he goes where he wants and I go where I want- I love the shows, he does not- we split up and OMG, I am a woman all by myself out on the streets of Vegas… I am scaring myself! People are all over the streets day and night- I feel completely safe, probably safer than in my home town. Why scare someone??
How scary! Big hugs to you. sm

Take a deep breath, say the Serenity Prayer, Let Go and Let God, make sure you are taking care of yourself by eating and getting the rest you need.  That's what Al-Anon has taught me and it has served me well.

This is scary. How could they be so careless? nm
x
Wow . . . that is shocking and very scary.
Our school district has an exception to the medication policy for children carrying asthma inhalers, where paperwork is completed in advance and kept on file.
Can tell you that Ambien is a little scary
my daughter was prescribed it and she did very bizarre things in her sleep that she has no recollection of - covered the entire bathroom floor with an entire box of tissues very neatly, sat down to go to the bathroom without pulling down her pajamas, walked into other people's rooms and did strange things.  Jack Nicholason said he nearly drove off a cliff on Ambien.
Scary! Thanks for sharing because
now I'm going to be on high alert. Thank God you caught it when you did! BTW, which company are you talking about that might have been an inside job? I'm hoping it's not one I have an account with! :0)
Pretty scary, isn't it?

I just don't know how much worse this nation must get before it is worse that Sodom and Gommorah.  Those cities must have been wicked beyond compare.  Part of me says "Wait just a little longer, Lord" but another, ever increasing part of me says "Come even so Lord Jesus."

OH MY GOSH! how scary.
when i picked up those 2 guys, i was raging mad at my employer and in one of those "i don't care" states of mind. another time when i passed a decent looking guy in a hospital parking lot, i ignored the bad feeling i had, and he tried to kidnap and rape me. so maybe our "senses" don't always clue us in, but when they do, we need to LISTEN!!
Can you name 3 meds that don't come with scary waringing?
x
You think that is scary; read the contract
that the parents had to sign, make sure to read the numbered portion. Now tell me, what type of parent would allow their child to do this? Digusting. I will definitely not be watching this garbage.

They should have responded sooner. How scary!
xx
Yes, those Batman movies sure are scary.
