Dear parents of toddlers
Please make sure someone is supervising your child after the church service. I love your kids and do not want to see them hurt. So when I walked into the Sunday School room after the service and saw a group of two and three year olds leaping off the table like a bunch of lemmings, I was very concerned.
Dear parents of toddlers - 2:
Do not inject them into other people's activities if they are uninvited.

If they weren't invited to the party/wedding/etc, don't bring them.

If they can't behave in a restaurant, don't bring them.

If they can't be quiet in a movie theater, take them outside. Better yet, if it's not a kid-movie, don't bring them.

Dont show up at any public outdoor activity (volleyball game, Tai Chi, baseball practice, dog obedience class, etc) and expect the participants of that activity to watch out for (ie, 'babysit') YOUR kids. If someone gets hurt it's YOUR fault. If you're too lazy to keep them under your control, don't bring them.

When diaper-changing time comes for small toddlers and infants, why do you feel it's okay to do this on a dining table at the ski-lodge cafeteria? YEEEUUUCCCK! If you can't do this in the restroom, or better yet, in your own car,
please.... don't bring them.

The same goes for hiking. On more than one occasion, I've come across someone's disgusting poop-filled Pamper sitting by the trailside. I'll pack out other people's (or should I say PIGS?) trash when I come across it, but not soiled diapers. If you can't pack out the kid's crap, then DO NOT BRING THEM.

Old folks hating toddlers?
I am older and just glad they are not around. Don’t want to fool with them, put up with their crying, screaming, making messes, pouting, crying. I want my golden years to be just that, without the brats.
I detested toddlers even when I WAS a toddler!

toddlers need toddler-appropriate terminology
a female toddler does not know a v-jay is not what she looks at in the mirror. Pelvis is more appropriate IMO. Toddlers want to see everone's everythings at that age. I can't see putting her in a position of going up to an unknown male and asking to see his this or that anatomical part. There are several sex offenders in my area - too much of a risk.

Why are we rushing to make them grow up so fast? My little one will get more anatomically appropriate names as she goes through elementary school. For now, pelvis for the front and bumm for the back will work just fine, TYVM.
Mind if I ask what parts of VA you are looking thinking about? nm
!
Depends on if parts can be used with other items I have.

Top 10 Useless Body Parts.

When you're sick you may feel that certain body parts are more trouble than they're worth. And in some cases, you'd be right. While the human body has evolved and adapted significantly since the caveman days, a few biological traces of our prehistoric ancestors still remain with us in the form of freeloading body parts we lug around with us, but have no use for. Take a gander at the top offenders!

10. Plica semilunaris
You may not know it, but you have a third eyelid. Pull open the two more noticeable eyelids and take a look -- it's located right in the corner by the tear duct. This small third eyelid is left over from what's known as a "nictitating membrane," which is still present in full form in some animals including chickens, lizards and sharks.

9. Body hair
No doubt we were once hairier. Up until about 3 million years ago, we were covered with body hair. But by the time Homo erectus arrived, the ability to sweat meant we could shed our woolly ways.

8. Sinuses
Doctors don't really know much about sinuses -- only that we have a lot of them. Possibilities for their function range from insulating our eyes to changing the pitch and tone of our voice.

7. Adenoids
Adenoids trap bacteria, but they're also prone to swelling and infection. Just ask any 7-year-old. Luckily, our adenoids shrink with age and are often removed, along with ...

6. Tonsils
Also prone to swelling and infection. If you still have them when you reach your 30s, it's almost an accomplishment.

5. Coccyx
More useful as a game-winning Scrabble word than as part of the anatomy, the coccyx or tailbone, is made up of several fused vertebrae left over from the olden days when we had tails.

4. Arrector pili
When we were hairier (see No. 9), the arrector pili made the hairs stand on end when we needed to appear bigger and scarier. Now, it just gives us goose bumps.

3. Wisdom teeth
Back in the day, when we ate mammoth meat off the bone and didn't floss afterward, our teeth tended to fall out. Therefore, when those reserve molars, aka "wisdom teeth," came in, they were welcomed. Nowadays, fluoride and dental plans have made them just a huge pain.

2. Appendix
Darwin claimed the appendix was useful for digestion during our early plant-eating years; it's dwindled down to little since we started eating more digestible foods.

1. Male nipples
Because, why?

I have been to Cancun and several parts of Mexico and
never ever had a bad time there. If you want a hate America type situation, go to Greece. Mexico is a wonderful place for a vacation. My daughter just went to Cancun this past year as she does every year and we always have a great time.
Different parts of the country speak
differently--did you ever consider that. I am from the South and am always having something said about the way I say certain words. You need to calm down a little.
Dear people who are not parents of toddlers...
Please keep in mind that EVERY child is bound to misbehave in a public place at least once. My son is VERY well behaved for a two-year-old, but on occasion, he has a meltdown. This does not mean that I should not take him anywhere. My husband is deployed and sometimes, I just need to get things done, so please stop being so darned judgemental. I, too, hate a badly behaved child whose parents do not watch him, but if a kid cries in a restaraunt, sometimes there's not much to be done about it.
I offered up no excuses, simply said that ALL toddlers..
misbehave at some point in time. They are people like you and I and have bad days, like you and I.
senior citizens babysity toddlers
Dear toddler hater,
A while back someone got the idea that all those people in the nursing home should be playing with all those kids in daycare! Guess what! It did not work! Why? Because old people were jealous of the kids. So the great american experiment failed and now the old people sit in their diapers alone and the kids get to go the movies with their moms while their dads are in Iraq!

Sincerely,
Defender of yucky, loud toddlers.
Dear mother of toddlers who think we all love
I see toddlers allowed to run around, screaming, yelling, standing up in chairs in restaurants, etc., etc. Most people who are not the parents do not care for this at all. We are annoyed that you do not control your kids. You have NO excuse for not doing so. There are plenty of times when one parent is the only 1 around so make the kid mind!!
Ok, call me silly, now I do feel silly - sm
With so much tabloid stuff being talked about and this reporter trying to find out this or that from anyone and everyone, I though you were talking about us. India didn't even come into mind.

And I'm sorry but as much as I loved Michael Jackson and his music (even though he had his problems) I'm getting tired of the coverage. Yesterday for 4 hours solid all it was, was MJ, MJ, MJ, MJ....no other news. Nothing about Farah Fawcet either. Not even one mention of her in four hours. Just MJ. This is the same guy that all these reporters/journalists were trying to crucify for his "wrong doings", and now they are all acting as though they cared so much about him.
She always amply displays other parts of her anatomy, but
I mean, we know she lives in the Hamptons and has rich friends who lives in the Hamptons. Enough already. Talk about rubbing it in!
Most rewarding parts require most effort.

Cary/parts of Raleigh, NC are very family oriented (sm)
I moved here from Florida 9 years ago and really like it. Tons of parks and greenways and sports for children and lots for them to do.

Best wishes
Agree. Wouldn't base $1000s decsion on infor from different parts

I was always taught the same sm
It is the thought that counts but I just could not justify that last Christmas.

My MIL (who I get along with great) collects a particular item (she has well over 100) and gives me and my SIL one every Christmas. At Thanksgiving I politely told her I just didn't have the room for anymore. I also told my SIL that if given the chance please tell her mother I don't want another one. She just laughed and said I don't think that is what she is going to get you. Even SIL agrees her mother's collection is way out of hand.

When I opened my gift from her it was of course this particular item I did not want. Her exact words were "I know you said you didn't want or need another one but I thought this one would be useful." I did thank her but I assure you it was not the most sincere thank you.

I think this year for Christmas I will give her a bottle of wine and say "I know you don't drink, but I do and this way when I visit I can have a glass." LOL!
I was taught
I was taught that a woman can be assertive, but it is rude to be aggressive. Guess shoes have different rules LOL
That's what we were always taught
We were told growing up that the use of foul language just showed how limited someone's vocabulary was. And I will say that most of the people I know well do NOT use the F word on a casual basis. For that matter, most of the people I know do not curse at all on the average day.

I always think it's bizarre that movies use so much gratuitous cursing, considering that is not how most people talk. At least that's what I thought.
And you were not taught manners
growing up - so rude.....Your post sounds like the wedding gift receipt I got which was also rude - the couple already had a thank you printed out- I took the time to get them 1 - they should have the decency to write a quick note- to have printed was not the way I was brought up.
So sorry I was taught as a child if given something
I should say thank you and accept, but then my mother taught me manners. If you do not like a gift you receive you can a) return or b) pass it on to someone who will. I give what I want to and if you don’t like, then do 1 of the above. Mind your manners. When I give something, I do not ask a person what they want and my gift comes because I want to give, not have to.
I was taught to be gracious
Regardless of the gift, you must always be gracious. They didn't need to give you anything at all and I was taught it was the thought that counts. What you do with it afterwards is up to you, but I have a few hideous gifts hanging around yet that I don't part with because of who gave them to me. A particularly creepy clown music box given to my kids comes to mind. It was given to them by an old lady who lived next door to us and I guess she thought it was nice. My kids are grown now but they said that thing always gave them the willies! LOL!

That's how I taught my kids.
Why would you call them anything different? I raised my children as to be intelligent human beings and never, ever used "baby talk" with them.

If you call them the right name from the beginning, the kids don't develop that "embarrassment" about using the right terms later on.
some parents need to be taught to....

I just think this younger generation just needs to be taught! sm
I am a woman in my 30s. Got married almost 10 years ago. I lived up north for a long time and married a man from the "true" south. Okay. Here I go - and I may get flamed for this, but here I go...When I lived in NY, I NEVER saw a thank-you note or even saw anyone in my family write one. Never. So, I was never "taught" that you write thank-you notes due to my upbringing.

I think it is a cultural thing. Maybe it's even a socioeconmic thing. Yes, we were very poor growing up in NY. Both my parents made around 26,000 combined with 3 children.

Fast-forward. I move down here, meet this amazing guy with a large family - most have money - lots of it - we have a huge wedding - I receive more gifts than I could even count - met people at my wedding I've never seen before in my life - the southern generosity has been overwhelming, and still is. We go on our long honeymoon and when I get home, my MIL calls and says to me, "Mrs. so and so (from the wedding shower), still hasn't received your thank-you note. Maybe you just forgot to send hers out. In any case, just thought I'd let you know! EMBARASSING! So, I pulled out my thank-you cards that came with my wedding invites and began writing thank you notes. That is where the LOVE of writing thank-you notes and just-writing-to-say-hello notes began. I LOVE doing it now. Love it. My family up north and around the country are amazed.

Here again, I was TAUGHT by my new mother-in-law, so to speak, and she did it in a very tactful manner.

Writing notes is just an amazing ministry and I love to do it. I get them printed off and personalized now with either my initial or my full name. You can get them on ebay, they will print 20 of them for you with corresponding envelopes for around 10 bucks.

Anyways, this was my experience.
My grandpappy from Arkansas taught
me to make cornbread, not sweet, heat cast iron skillet with grease (to which corn meal has been sprinkled) til it smokes then pour in the batter, let the oil ooze up on top. It turns out crunchy crust. So good!! He used to eat it cold crumbled into a glass of buttermilk!
Spanking just taught my child it was okay to hit.
We never spanked our kid until he was around 2.5. Then dad got fed up with his behavior one day and spanked him. We also tried swatting him on the hand when he did something bad. Now my son has decided that hitting is what we do when we are mad and now hits me whenever he is upset. He never did this until he started receiving spankings. I really don't think spanking/switching is the answer and just sends the wrong message to the kids. But that is just my opinion and I realize everyone is entitled to raise their kids as they see fit.
I've been taught 'Herb' is the name, and

Jesus himself taught us not to judge others - let he who is without sin (sm)
cast the first stone.  None of us has any right to say anything about how anyone else is living.  We need to take care of the log in our own eye.... remember?
As an MT you have to be flexible and inventive, that's was I was taught!..nm

I was taught to "always ignore the ignorant."

Unfortunately, I've run into people like that before, and I just ignore the comment, make nice chit-chat for a few minutes and "see you later alligator."   At least, I demonstrated what my values are and did not degrade myself to their level.  The main word here is "ignorant."  There are so many people out there that are ignorant of their own manners, ignorant of other people's feelings, just tactless mules.

Grandpa from Tennessee taught me to cook it

Also, abstinence is taught regularly - kids'
We were always taught abstinence when I was in school.  It was practically shoved down our throats, and I would estimate that only about 10% of the student population actually abstained.  That is great for them, and they should be proud, but you can't leave the other 90% in the dark about safe sex, because they will be having it, and isn't better if they know all about the possible consequences of their actions and how to be as safe as possible?  That's just my view of it.  Safety first!
No outside contact & children and women taught

Of course I would want to be equally valued. Why can't that be taught at home? nm

I find it very offensive that is how you taught your daughter to vote
if my other post is deleted, just thought id add some more.

Not only is it ridiculous that you told your daughter to vote that way, it is ignorant and racist and REALLY SAD
but you just admitted what this election came down to RACE
NOT POLICIES, NOT WHO IS THE BEST FOR THE JOB.
RACE. Exactly what President Elect didn't want it to be about.
how sad are you telling your mixed baby to vote more black than white, when Obama himself is black and white.
sickening and you should be ashamed, how can you live with yourself knowing that you didn't back your vote on intelligence but skin color instead? you just took us back 40 years and admitted it.

there are PLENTY of black republicans, Condeelza Rice, JC Watts, Michael Steele ETC ETC

private schools

No, it's not fair that you should have to pay for a private school, but that might just be what is best for your daughter.  We decided 16 years ago that our 3 children would not go to public schools.  We have spent a fortune over the years, but I do not regret it for an instant.

His profile may not be set to private. sm
Just set yourself up an account and look for him by e-mail addy.  He shouldn't mind.  The only one of my contacts that minded was my nephew and he deleted me, but he's weird like that.
Private counseling
Go to a private counselor yourself if he won't go. Some of these "ANONYMOUS" programs attract those who do not get it and go around town blabbing your business, ruining your lives even moreso. Yes, they save lives but they often ruin them with their gossip, even the name gossip hisses, it ruins lives, topples marriages, loses jobs. Be sure before you let these people into your personal, private lives and your homes. Sometimes private, closed-door counseling is the best way to go. Then if you are both comfortable with going "public" that is your own personal decision. Beware of who you let into your life. If you were going to take a plane ride you would want to know the pilot.
I use it. I have everything private so only friends
that I approve can see my profile, and as far as personal info, my profile only shows my name and city.
Emeril Legasse taught me about hard-boiled eggs

Emeril says to put the eggs in the pot with the  cold water, and wait for it to boil, when it's a rolling boil, shut off the stove, and cover the pot for 13 minutes - and voila!!  Perfect hard-boiled eggs!!

The private school we're considering is ...sm
the one my daughter went to for pre-K and she liked it there then. I didn't send her there for kindergarten because I believe that public education should be educating kids. 3 of the 5 kids in the 1st grade at the private school are kids she went to pre-K with and she liked them - one was her best friend. The private school does have a good principal and they don't tolerate bad behavior for a second, and parents are called if their child misbehaves (been there, done that in pre-K!). Fortunately the tuition is reasonable and better than the other private schools in the area that have worse teacher ratios and nickel & dime you to death.
My kids - private school sm
I have two teens now, but in their grade school years, they attended private school. It is a financial struggle, but well worth it,in my opinion.

Now, one is a senior and the other a freshman in high school in public school. Both just sail through in all honors and AP courses. This is possible because of the study habits, learning techniques and discipline they received in private school as their foundation.

Not every child will have the same results, but I can't say enough about private schools laying the foundation for success in education.

GOOD LUCK in whatever you decide.
I guess that got past me but what does going to private
school have to do with this? Things that were in our past we have no control over. I live in the "deep south" and I am prejudiced, very much so, have always been, against thin women, healthy volumed hair ladies, people who do not like animals and my list goes on and on. I do think with all that happened in our deep south, you would not think we would have such an influx of blacks wanting to settle here and call it home, would you? Bad things can happen anywhere, anywhere.
private school answer.........sm

I think most private schools don't have to follow those govt innoculations things - I'm not sure, of course, but I seem to have heard something about that from parents who sent their children to private schools.  I couldn't afford that back in the days.

As for the deep south....things have gotten better for the American blacks all throughout this country finally after 400+ years or thereabouts...........I look toward Atlanta, Georgia because it shows what I'm talking about.  There are a tremendous amount of successful black Americans in Atlanta (not just in Atlanta either - Florida for one) and living in GREAT neighborhoods, buying expensive property and kudos to them.....I'm tolerant of everyone and everything in life except the intolerant and the extremists/terrorists and people who take advantage of others.....
