I'm sorry, really, but SM

responsible cat owners do not let their cats out.  Yes, I agree, your SIL is the more irresponsible one, but that is what us cat owners deal with.  Bad dogs, fast cars, other cats for that matter, along with various diseases they may pick up.

Many years ago, vets and other pet professionals deemed it very important to keep cats indoors.  I realize that may be difficult for some people, who really do love cats, but that is the accepted practice.

I am trying to be as tactful as possible because of your loss.  Please think about this before you bring any more cats into your household.
