I have also heard that washing with dog/cat flea shampoo kills them although I have never tried it.

Here is another sad story--kills dog and daughter - sm

Pa. dad charged in infant daughter's shaking death

Published: 2/28/09, 4:46 PM EDT
ERIE, Pa. (AP) - A man irate that the family dog defecated on the floor kicked the animal to its death, then killed his 5-month-old daughter by shaking her when she cried, police said.

Vincent Davis, 24, of Erie, was charged Friday with homicide in the death of Savonnia Davis. He also was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child and cruelty to animals.

Police said Davis initially told them the girl slipped from his hands as he was changing her diaper. He later admitted shaking her, police said.

Savonnia died at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh on Thursday, two days after she was shaken. Doctors and a forensic pathologist said she had broken ribs, fluid on the brain, and cuts and bruises.

Police found the dog's body in a trash bag on Davis' girlfriend's porch.

Davis was being held without bail. Police did not know whether he had an attorney and the jail had no record of his representation.-----------------------------

What a sick SOB, hope he fries, though don't think PA has the death penalty.

Grant's Kills Ants has worked for me. (sm)
They take the bait back to the queen and it kills her, and then the entire colony.

We just sprayed the perimeter of our house with Ortho Home Defense Max and it killed literally thousands at the site where they were getting into the house (they came out and died near the site - yuck!). So far, so good! It says you can spray it inside too, but I'm like you...I don't like to spray that stuff indoors.

Good luck!
Grant's Kills Ants is the only thing that has worked for me.
Don't know if it depends on the type of ant, but I tried everything and then tried Grant's Kills Ants ant stakes and they worked! Good luck! I hate ants!
US Soldier Kills 4 Fellow Troops Before Killing Himself At US Base In Iraq

***UPDATE*** The Associated Press reveals more details about the shooter:

The suspect had been disarmed after an earlier incident at the center but returned with another weapon, according to a senior military official in Washington, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation into the shootings was ongoing.

***UPDATE*** The American soldier who shot dead five fellow soldiers at a U.S. base in Baghdad is in custody.

"The shooter is a US soldier and he is in custody," US marine corps lieutenant Tom Garnett, a US military spokesman in Iraq, told reporters.

The New York Times adds some perspective to the tragedy:

The killings appeared to be the worst case of soldier-on-soldier violence among the American forces based in Iraq since the invasion more than six years ago.
The shootings, which took place at a stress clinic, highlight the problem of post-traumatic stress disorder among U.S. soldiers, notes the Guardian:

Stress is one of the biggest killers of US soldiers in Iraq. About a fifth of all US troops are thought to be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, contributing to high divorce and suicide rates. An estimated one fifth of the 4,292 members of the US force in Iraq have died from non-combat causes, either in accidents or from suicide.
***UPDATE*** According to Fox News, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs Monday relayed President Obama's response to the tragedy. Obama expressed shock and sadness and is promising to fully investigate what exactly transpired at Camp Liberty, so as to prevent such incidents in the future.

***UPDATE*** AP has another update. The shooting was at a 'stress clinic':

Pentagon officials say five Americans are dead after a U.S. soldier opened fire at a U.S. base in Baghdad. They say the attacker is in custody.

The officials say the shootings happened on Camp Liberty at a stress clinic, where troops can go for help with the stresses of combat or stress from personal issues.

One senior military official in Washington says it's unclear whether those killed are workers at the clinic or were there for counseling. He says officials also are unsure whether all the dead are members of the military.

***UPDATE*** ABC News reports that the U.S. soldier who attacked fellow troops on a U.S, base in Iraq has killed five of them and is now in custody. Initial reports suggested that he had turned the gun on himself after his rampage.

***UPDATE*** AP now reports that the U.S. soldier who went on a rampage against his fellow troops in Iraq may have survived the incident:

Pentagon officials say five U.S. soldiers are dead after an American soldier opened fire at a U.S. base in Baghdad.

The officials say the shootings happened Monday at Camp Liberty near Baghdad's airport.

One senior military official in Washington said it was not yet clear whether the shooter was among the dead. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the circumstances surrounding the deaths are under investigation.

Initial reports indicated the Army soldier shot several others, then turned the gun on himself. But it was unclear whether he, too, had died.

***UPDATE*** CNN reports that 3 other U.S. soldiers were wounded during the friendly fire incident that has left 5 U.S. troops dead. An American soldier killed 4 of his fellow troops before killing himself.

According to the Washington Post, it is the single greatest loss of life in a single incident involving U.S. soldiers since a truck bomb last month took the lives of 5 American soldiers.

***UPDATE*** CNN has just sent out a breaking news alert reporting that senior defense officials have told the network that a US soldier killed 4 of his fellow troops before killing himself. Check back for more information.

McClatchy is reporting that a shooting at a U.S. base in Baghdad has left 5 soldiers dead. The shooting occurred at Camp Liberty, a base near the Baghdad airport.

Was the flea comment really necessary?

no flea control
vet says we dont have fleas in our area.
is this the Flea Free your friend uses, SM
I have been desperately looking for an alternative to the topical treatments, as I do not want to put chemicals into by animal companion systems. Would like to know more about your friend's experience with this product and is it the same product, Thanks.

Need recommendations for dog flea control.
Anyone use anything that actually works? I have a golden retriever and I have tried Advantage (which worked in the past when I had cats), but it hasn't helped. I also tried Zodiac Spot-On (cheaper brand) and that didn't work. I have tried flea baths and flea collars as well. Help!
Okay..back with another flea question. sm
Anyone use Frontline Plus on their pets? Found out the Program flea pill really isnt worth buying because it does not kill the cycle of the flea, only adults. I have been reading about the Frontline and it sounds pretty good. I have been using a "generic" store brand topical, but I dont think it is strong enough. I need something for dogs, puppies, and cats. Any ideas before this gets out of control. I have been checking the dogs daily and not finding anything. I found one flea a couple of days ago, but nothing since. About ten years ago we had a terrible flea problem so I know what to look for  but I just need a new flea medicine. What do you use?? Thanks!!
I used the tub from my old washing
machine for a flower planter in my yard. It has good drainage!!

Does anyone use Program flea meds for their pets? sm
I have three dogs and a cat that I was using a topical flea med on. We got a new puppy last week and she had fleas. I washed her and got rid of them, but now have noticed a couple of fleas on the other dogs. Not a lot, but some. I have heard that the Program works better than the topical stuff and would like to try it, but it is rather expensive so I am looking for any input before I buy it.  Thanks!!
New Washing Machine
A gentleman that I took care of/helped for a while (because of MS and being somewhat immobilized) had a Maytag, which was a top loader, but had all the computerized bells and whistles on it and I was amazed at the amount of water that was extracted after the spin cycle was completed -- it took HALF the time for the clothes to dry because of that, but another suggestion that I would make is checking out Consumer Reports and just do an internet search as well to see what the top rate machines might be -- no sense in "going inexpensive" only to have to replace in 2-3 years :)

I thought my clothes would be de-dirtified & wrapped in cellophane.
I use Sentinel - flea control and heartworm prevention all in one (sm)
Less for me to remember.

Need a new washing machine...any suggestions? sm
Either a regular top loader or one of those front loaders I am looking for but nothing over $700.  All opinions welcome!
Does it really matter which washing detergent you use? sm

i normally buy the cheapest washing detergent.  but it seems like my whites get really dingy.  lately i've been using washing detergent, color safe bleach.  i also use liquid fab. softener.  is it really worth paying more for washing detergent? just wondered what you all do.

thanks

Wear your clothes more than once before washing or
I wear jeans, khakis, and dress shirts at least 2 or 3 times before I wash them. They key with dress shirts is wearing an undershirt. Some of you may think it’s gross, but your clothes will not fade as quickly and you’ll spend less on detergent and dry-cleaning bills.

Borax washing powder is not dangerous.....

Borax sold in the supermarkets for laundry washing and other uses is not poisonous to the public.  However, REAL boric acid is......just be careful with it.......that's all.....regarding pets and people.......

Yes, but is that a valid reason for not washing your hands after you
Maybe you were just making a statement and if that's all it was, please excuse the question. Personally, I use the papertowel that I dried with and open the bathroom door when I leave.  I also keep hand sanitizing gel with me at all times.
Question about NOT washing your hair everyday...

I've heard this many times...That you're better off not to wash your hair everyday--Dr. Oz was on Oprah yesterday and said the same thing. He meantioned something about you are stripping your hair of good oil etc et.

I know some people can to a day or two without washing their hair--I HAVE to shower and wash my hair in the MORNING everyday---

But in regards to "shampooing" everyday--Would you be doing your hair good by not using shampoo everyday? For example I used shampoo and conditioner yesterday and this morning when I took a shower I got my hair wet but didnt use shampoo--just some conditioner.

What do you think?

And what about that commercial with Jessica Simpson washing the car
in her teeny bikini. That was for hamburgers too.
I have told people starting to leave the restroom without washing
"Oh, wait, ma'am, there's soap in THIS dispenser." as if she might have thought ANOTHER dispenser was empty.  Just about gets em everytime. They'll begrudgingly come to the sink and wash their hands and I play it off like it's nothing.  Sometime, I'll say, "Don't you wish they would fill the soap dispensers more often?"
Does anyone notice you seem to lose more hair with washing and blowing dry than just brushing other
days.
Shampoo sm
I totally agree! I can't tell you how many times I have gotten home only to find that I ended up with 2 conditioners or 2 shampoos instead of 1 of each. My fault, I know, but I've done this despite being (I thought) extremely careful so it didn't happen again. I guess we should consider ourselves lucky to have such an array to choose from.
I've heard of tops and also heard it is a good group.

I usually tip 15% because I also tip the shampoo person.,,,,
But if the hairdresser does it all, including the shampoo, etc., I tip closer to 20%.
60 does some too high.. I pay 60 for shampoo,

Kelco Shampoo

How is it different from regular shampoo?
Is it conditioning? I have to avoid conditioning shampoos, so I've wasted a lot of money trying shampoos that are all about conditioning the hair (It irritates the skin).
Can we talk about Shampoo....
It is really a bit annoying to me to try and buy shampoo these days. I just want a bottle that says "Shampoo---for clean hair", but trying to read all the labels and pick out a bottle is kind of getting on my nerves. First, you have to find the one that says "shampoo" and that isn't easy since it is written in 2 different languages. (And let me say right now that immigrants that speak Spanish do not bother me in the least bit--and I don't care whether they speak English---just to get that out of the way, cause this isn't about that at all.) Then you have to read whether it is for frizzy hair, dry hair, colored hair, hair that needs hydrating, hair that needs dehydrating, permed hair, gray hair, shampoo & conditioner (which I do not want).......!

I mean can't there be just "Shampoo" and that's it?

Is it just me, or anyone else out there having this problem? Maybe I'm getting to be a bit crabby in my old age, but I would rather spend that time doing something else instead of studying the dang shampoo shelves.

If I don't shampoo my hair every day...sm
It is so oily the next day it looks like I haven't washed it in a week. I have to wash it everyday. It would be nasty if I didn't. I wish I didn't but I do.
Depends on the shampoo I use sm
We have well water, and I buy a special shampoo for that. If I don't, I get an orangish tinge to my hair and it does not stay clean for even a whole day. Also, I can only use a tiny amount of conditioner because my hair tends to be oily. That said, I usually only wash my hair every other day, more because of my schedule than anything.
Does any know if kids shampoo
I was at a salon the other day with my 2 girls, one 7, the other 3.  I asked the stylist if it I should wash my 7-year-old's hair in regular shampoo instead of the kid shampoo I get.  I have done it once or twice when I ran out of shampoo.  She didn't say yes or no, she just said that she wouldn't because kid shampoos have an ingredient in it that prevents lice.  She said the detangler spray in particular is what helps.  I tried to Google that but haven't come up with anything.  I was just wondering if anyone else heard it.  TIA
Also Nizoral shampoo might be just the ticket.
I like the OTC one, but there is also a Rx one with the same active ingredient. I just didn't like it as well.

The OTC one is expensive, like $12 a bottle, but it's great stuff.

ideal for oily scalp. It won't damage your hair, either. I alternate with Nystatin (OTC) dandruff shampoo.
I tell you what shampoo WILL prevent lice...sm
At Sally's the generic Paul Mitchell's tea tree oil shampoo. Tea Tree Oil kills lice so if you shampoo with it it prevents them. It is not a lice killer it is just regular shampoo. It smells a lot like peppermint to me. I used it when my son started kindergarden because I didn't want him to get lice. Kids in his clss had it and he never got it. It is a little expensive but worth it to me.
When I get dry, itchy scalp I make a shampoo...sm
I copied this from my vinegar book for you.

Apple Cider Vinegar-for your hair/scalp PH balances
Dandruff and Itchy Scalp: add two teaspoons of ACV to a large glass of warm water. Lean your head over a sink and carefully pour the mixture over your entire scalp. Wrap your head in a towel for 15 minutes. Unwrap head, comb hair and then wash hair as usual. The acidic nature of ACV combined with its potent enzymes can help scalp problems such as dandruff, itchy scalp, baldness and thinning hair. Apple cider vinegar also stimulates hair follicles to encourage the growth of healthier hair.

All Natural Shampoo (ACV)
Add the following ingredients in a blender:
1 oz. Olive oil
1 egg
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon ACV.
Use as you would a regular shampoo

Herbal Hair Rinse Combinations Using ACV
Use ¼ fresh herb or you can use dry ones. You can use any herb you like. Add to 1 quart boiling water. Let is steep until cool strain then add 2 tablespoons of ACV. Certain herbs can enhance your hair color, as well as condition it. Rosemary and parsley are good for dark hair, sage will darken graying hair, chamomile will highlight blonde or light brown hair, calendula conditions, lavender and lemon verbena add fragrance, linden is good for frequently shampooed hair, and nettles will control dandruff.

Head & Shoulders or other similar shampoo (sm)
That helps me with lots of skin ailments - I use it under my arms so I won't be stinky and it works great :-)  Might be worth a shot anyway.
My daughter had this problem, ended up she was using a shampoo
for oily hair that made her hair over-compensate for using the oily shampoo and it produced more oil, hence her having to wash her hair more often, try switching shampoos. I feel for you.

Would go find another eye specialist ASAP. I have this happen once in a while but not on a consistent basis. Can also be allergy related, i.e. if you use eye makeup or anything like that, or even if you are allergic to other stuff.

I am allergic to Pine Sol. When I use it, my eyes swell up and go shut. It is an awful thing to behold, let me tell you.

I use Dawn dish detergent, shampoo twice. Also use powder before bed on my head
I put the powder on my scalp and work it through the hair close to my head at bedtime. The powder absorbs the oil. This gives me a couple of extra days between shampoos.
