I just received a 1099 today, please see message, i have a question

Posted By: bassettmomma on 2008-02-14
In Reply to:

This company sends my 1099 today and sent it in a BLACK envelope so you can't see the date it was stamped unless you put a flashlight behind the envelope and then you can barely see it.  Obviously this is late and is only for $310.  Do I have to show this to my tax guy?  Or is there someone I can get a hold of (BBB) about this?  This company was a joke.  I only worked three days for them (not going into the details).  Anyway, I think they were being very sneaky by sending it in a black envelope.

Thanks

I am so sad today, can't even work. I received an email sm

this morning from my son's father (we share custoday with him having physical custody) that my son will not be coming home for the summer. I can't argue with him or take him to court because he is my son's soul provider right now. I can't go into why, when, where, etc. Long story...

My son is still very young. We've waited all year for him to come home for the summer. He lives 1,000 miles away. He has 2 other siblings here.

He is just being spiteful. I spoke with my son a few nights ago and he was so excited about coming here. He wants to live here full time, but his dad won't let him. Now, his dad is keeping him from even coming down for the summer because he's so afraid that my son won't want to go back home.

So, because of one selfish person, we all have to suffer - me, my son, his siblings, his stepdad.  It's the most difficult situation ever to have to be in.  And there isn't anything I can do about it but pray that he change his mind!

Received a dx today of fibrocystic breast disease. Painful lumps in my breast. Going for a mammo
towards the end of the month. Anyone have any info on this disease?
1099
Yeah, I know about the 1099C, etc. That would still not be as bad as the whole $14,000 amount that it is up to now (with interest and court costs). Combined, my husband and I took home approx $40,000 last year, so our taxes are not bad anyway. This debt is in my name only though. I have never been to court before, so I am just nervous aobut the actual procedure that happens when I am there. I did call my old lawyer for advice, and he actually told me not to get a lawyer if I am trying to claim that I can't afford to pay, because in theory if I can pay for a lawyer, I could pay for the debt, as the court would see it.
Seriously, no law. You dont turn 1099 into the IRS.
x
If co. doesnt send 1099, you must rely on your own
x
The company writing the 1099 reports that
They have to report the 1099s they distribute.

I personally have great disdain for tax evaders, which is what you are if you don't report your income.

I pay my taxes and report all of my income fairly and accurately. Those who don't are commiting a criminal act against me as a taxpayer and against the government.

Sending your 1099 in a black envelope would be a protective measure, prevening others from easily viewing information through the envelope. Not quite as underhanded as you seem to want to believe. :)

the underlying read-between-the-lines message of the insurance lobbyist's message was (sm)
to, yes, appeal the denied claim.  However, she lobbies for the insurance companies.  She comes across sounding like she's on the patient's side but in reality she is on the side of the insurance company.  The insurance company gets to deny whatever claims they want right off the bat.  That leaves the SICK patient (who needs the coverage NOW when they are sick) to have to go through the appeals process.  That could take quite a while.  Imagine a cancer patient being denied some form of treatment that is going to help them.  They now have to go through the appeals process (or pay out of pocket) in order for that treatment to be covered.  In the MEANTIME their cancer is progressing.  From the point of view of the insurance company, if they drag it out long enough they don't have to pay for it at all.  That same insurance lobbyist was on 20/20 a little while back and basically came right out and said that the insurance companies COULDN'T AFFORD to pay for coverage for sick people.  She's not on the patient's side.
Sent and received sm
I thought about not sending any but glad I did. I was also going to wait to see who sent to me and immediately write one to them. Then I realized how foolish this was, got out last year's list and sent to everyone, bought the extra stamps and don't care whether I get one in return. No newsletter, hate them! Just feel better that I did it and freed up from it! Merry Christmas!
Received none, but instead of giving one (sm)
which I planned on doing, after seeing something on the news about them, I just decided to give cold, hard cash (no complaints, btw). Anyhow, the news story said that stores profit greatly from them since people lose or forget about them, or buy more than the value of the gift card. So, I decided to just buy 50 one-dollar bills for my son's GF for a better effect LOL.
Not sure about check that he/she received
Did say that it was $1,200 which is what the person would have gotten from the IRS as the stimulus payment, so I'm not sure how it was received earlier than everyone else.
How many of you received gift cards....sm
and if you got them, were they to places you like to shop?  (As for me, I got 4 of them, 1 of which is a Visa debit card that I REALLY love since it can be used anywhere!).
I just read a letter I received from the SM

ASPCA thanking me for my membership and devotion.  The letter describes a gift they will be sending in appreciation.

They indicate a gift from "Miss Bea" will be comiing. They tell the story of this darling little dog who was locked in a closet with atrophied muscles from no exercise, etc. This dog was living with pounds of matter fur and living in urine and feces.

The letter went on to say that every time they go into the field to rescue an aminal people like me are with them.

I just needed to share this with you, and to urge you to donate to either the ASPCA or your local animal shelter in behalf of these defneseless animals. The level of cruelty and ignorance is apauling.

I am reduced to tears with emotion at this story, and the fact that I am so appreciated. Thanks for listening.

I recently received info
on ViaCord from registering at Babys R Us. I have heard of them before but not participated in such a thing myself. I'm sure they have information online or you could drop by any store and pick up a brochure. I have received it from other places too and this is the only one that I receive.
Best gifts given and/or received in the past? sm

I'd say my best gift I have ever given would have to be my DH's custom made leather wallet with his initials on it about 20 years ago.  He is still using it to this day!!  Cannot for the life of me remember how expensive or inexpensive it was then though but surely has tripled by now anyways, LOL!

Best gift I received wasn't actually Christmas gift.  I would say it was gifts for MT week several years ago. We got a package from our MTSO with a gift to open for each day of the week.  Small stuff but was a very nice gesture and tickled to have a new gift each day!  Oh those were the good times...........

I received the vaccination for swine flu in the 70s
as I had two small children to care for and I got SO sick from the vaccine I thought I was going to die. Won't take a vaccination for it again. Would rather take my chances in not getting the flu.
Does anybody know the details of when this will be received for us receiving SS?

Know it will be paid in the same manner, i.e., direct deposit, as you receive normal SS check.  But the timing is what I am asking about.

When deposited.  Know it is to be done before end of May, but just wondering what order or whatever they are paying this $250.00.

What do you think of the quality of clothing today. What I looked at shopping today in nice stores
the stuff wasnt even sewn properly.  Do you have to look at everything you buy or just hope it lasts a year.
What a great topic! I just received an invitation that
stated "Regrets - and the phone number," so I assumed I did not have to call if I was coming. Thanks to all for putting me in my proper place and I will call tomorrow (because it is Easter today) and just confirm that I am attending. I had never received an invitation like that, so I am so happy I have you all to make sure my manners are in the right place!!!

Thanks and hugs!
If you were in my family, you wouldnt' have received a dime from me. nm

I received this from one of my interns...Merry Christmas!
’Twas the night before Christmas
And in MT town
Tired MTs were longing
To lay their keys down.

Their earphones were hung
On their skull caps with care
In hopes that new words
Wouldn’t bring them despair.

Some in their sweatpants
And some in their tights
Had just settled down
For a long evening’s type.

When over their headsets
The sounds were so jumbled
They couldn’t quite make out
The words that were mumbled.

They hit the fast forward
Reverse, stop and slow
Trying to make out
The message below.

They checked in their Dorland’s,
Drug books and spellers,
Some called class buddies
Or even asked their fellers.
If they had an inkling
Of what the tape said

Or why someone was trying
To mess with their head.

When no one could answer
They listened less quick
And suddenly knew
The "doc" was St. Nick.

Now he spoke very plainly
Since they needed to hear
For his message was urgent
As Christmas drew near.

It was quite simple
No long words to spell
Dictated but heartfelt
And clear as a bell.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays
Best wishes and cheer
And thanks from Doc Santa
For your hard work all year

So cute. Received this email about kids and the sea. sm
Subject: Kids thoughts on the Ocean-cute

CHILDREN'S THOUGHTS ON THE SEA

This is a picture of an octopus. It has eight testicles. (Kelly age 6)

If you are surrounded by sea you are an island. If you don't have sea all round you, you are incontinent. (Wayne age 7)

Sharks are ugly and mean, and have big teeth, just like Emily Richardson. She's not my friend no more. (Kylie age 6)

A dolphin breaths through a butthole on the top of its head. (Billy age 8)

When ships had sails, they used to use the trade winds to cross the ocean. Sometimes, when the wind didn't blow, the sailors would whistle to make the wind come. My brother said they would have been better off eating beans. (William age 7)

I'm not going to write about the sea. My baby brother is always screaming and being sick, my Dad keeps shouting at my Mom, and my big sister has just got pregnant, so I can't think what to write. (Amy age 6)

Some fish are dangerous. Jellyfish can sting. Electric eels can give you a shock. They have to live in caves under the sea where I think they have to plug themselves into chargers. (Christopher age 7)

When you go swimming in the sea, it is very cold, and it makes my willy small. (Kevin age 8)

She received a 160K disability payment sm
Something about a back injury that didn't allow her to work (but did allow her to carry 8 babies? Strong back....?) and she also gets some money for a couple of the first 6 kids who are disabled in one way or another (not sure of the details).

I need advice. Daughter received a frantic call from a friend, sm

Her friend is at a local sleepaway camp at a local university this week.  My daughter is 18, her friend is 17.  Anyway, the friend called my daughter telling her she had unprotected sex over the weekend (once) with her 17-year-old boyfriend (they claim it was the first time for each).  Anyway, the friend wanted my daughter to pick her up so that she could get a morning after pill.  I looked it up on line and anyone under 17 needs a prescription.  My daughter had come to me, asking me not to tell anyone.  I told her that she should have her friend call her mom.  She said her friend thought her mom would freak out if she found out.  We found a local clinic, but it is only open certain days of the week, and was closed yesterday, so she's going to try again tomorrow.  I've tried to get my daughter to convince her friend to call her mother, that she may freak in the beginning, but parents usually get over it and would want to know.

My dilemma is that my daughter told me this in confidence, and I want her to continue to be able to come to me with anything, yet I wonder if I should call the girl's mother and tell her that her daughter needs help.  Or, just wait until she goes to the clinic and pray that she isn't pregnant.

Does anyone have some advice?

For anyone who has received a stimulus check by mail, have you all gotten a letter about a week
before the check stating when it would be arriving.
Added fresh chives today. to the egg today.
and a SMIDGE of soy sauce.
A beautiful silk scarf - received one once from a doc, loved it! Plain and simple goes w/anything.
light enough to ship from a fancy dancy boutique.
hydrogen peroxide tips - received via email and thought i'd pass on. see inside.
*   This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana (a doctor's wife), and I
want to share it with you. She was over recently for coffee and smelled
the
bleach I was using to clean my toilet and counter tops. This is what she
told me.. I would like to tell you of the benefits of that plain little
ole
bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any drug store.
What
does bleach cost? My husband has been in the medical field for over 36
years, and most doctors don't tell you about peroxide. Have you ever
smelled
bleach in a doctor's office? NO!!! Why? Because it smells, and it is not
healthy! Ask the nurses who work in the doctor's offices, and ask them
if
they use bleach at home. They are wiser and know better! *
**
*Did you also know bleach was invented in the late 40's? It's chlorine,
Folks! And it was used to kill our troops. Peroxide was invented during
WWI
in the 20's. It was used to save and help cleanse the needs of our
troops
and hospitals. Please think about this. *
**
*1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle)
and
hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when
I
bathe.) No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter without
expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash. *
**
*2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of
germs. *
**
*3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and
leave
a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or
spray
it on the counters. *
**
*4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to
kill
salmonella and other bacteria. *
**
*5. I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of
peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let
dry. *
**
*6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes
several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal
with
any medicine but was healed by soaking in peroxide. *
**
*7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and
keep
it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system
like
bleach or most other disinfectants will. *
**
**
**
*8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture
whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and help to kill
the
bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into a tissue.
*
**
**
**
*9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right
away,
put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes
several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly. *
**
*10. And of course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the
50/50
solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will
not
have the peroxide-burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages but more
natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, faddish, or dirty
blonde.
It also lightens gradually, so it's not a drastic change. *
**
*11. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help rid boils,
fungus,
or other skin infections. *
**
*12. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of
whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing,
pour
it directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and
rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary. *
**
*13. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors. There is no smearing, which is
why
I love it so much for this. *
**
**
**
*I could go on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home should be
without!  With prices of most necessities rising, I'm glad there's a way
to
save tons of money in such a simple, healthy manner! *
**
*This information really woke me up. I hope you gain something from it,
too.
Pass it on!        *

Message to Mom of 3 below.
Wow! First of all have to give you compliments on stating your opinion as I figure you knew you would get nailed.  I am also one that is a firm believer of kids have the ability to learn, sometimes through tough love and sometimes through every day simple life.  Although I would disagree with you about the "coat incident" I still can relate to you on trying to teach kids to take care of your things, etc.  I love my kids dearly, but I know at any moment I could be taken from this earth and I want them to be as prepared as they can be at 8 and 9.  I don't expect perfection, but when they do "screw up" I make sure they definitely know it (and remember it).  I think most people now do not appreciate children the way we do.  They are very intelligent if you give them the opporunity to be. They deserve respect just as adults do (when they earn it.... just like adults).  We have to teach them to be adults and it has to start somewhere.  Again, I don't completely agree with you, but overall I understand what you are saying.  Please ignore any misspelling in my post... I am using my husband's keyboard, which is "stiff as a board!)
Sorry, should be sm for above message

I believe homosexuality is a sin, but I also believe that sexual preferences should be personal and private.  I would not refuse to shop at a store because a clerk was gay, but frankly, that is something that I shouldn't even know about a stranger.  A person's sexual behavior should be totally private.

I paid my balance off in full, received a finance charge statement of about $42. I called the credit card, and said I do not understand - I paid the balance in full, what is this charge for. Act like you need them to help you understand. They adjusted my account and took that finance charge off and said I will receive a statement of the adjustment and my balance is now 0.

It really all depends on how you handle it and in what way you speak to them. Try it that way and see if they will adjust it off.

Good luck!

I just had my ovary removed due to a cyst and surgery went well, I did well postop and was relieved that it was over. However, just found out that the pathology report showed carcinoma and now I have to have a total hysterectomy and staging workup. Anyone been through this that can offer some comfort in what to expect? Thanks.

Thank you for your suggestions. At least you give me suggestions other than telling me to seek therapy or bariatric surgery, which I would never consider anyway. I get defensive when I feel attacked for my opinions, thus the *anger* in my previous posts. I DID read your post thoroughly and I did note that you used to have a weight problem, as well. Anon upset me, and I guess I took it out on you. I apologize.

I will put in to use some of your suggestions, but just so you know, my one meal a day does not include snacking, either. I am busy working most of the day, have a lot to do, and the time just slips away before I realize I am hungry, which is generally around 3 in the afternoon. I may have a cup of coffee or tea in the morning, and sometimes water, but that is all. Some will find fault with that, as well, I am sure, but that's the truth. Again, thanks for your input. At least you are more pleasant about it all.

Your symptoms sound similar to carpal tunnel, but it may be something else, too. If I may suggest seeing a neurologist? It sounds more like a nerve problem to me and it does not necessarily have to be in your hands or wrists. EMG nerve conduction studies on your hands may be negative, but I have done dictations from doctors who have patients with carpal tunnel with false EMGs and the docs call them false positives, meaning the patient actually has carpal tunnel, but the studies were not definitive for that. As the other poster suggested, it may also be neck related. Just get a second opinion from a different doctor, and be insistent on what YOU want checked. Some doctors are resistant to patient requests, so you have to stand up for yourself. good luck.

When my 17 year old calico passed away a few months ago, I was with her, as well as my 20 y/o son, and it was very hard for us both to watch. My son couldn't stop crying...she was part of his entire life. We still have the 16 year old male with us, Oscar, who misses her very much. They always stayed in close proximity to one another...even though they still gave each other glaring looks at mealtime. He just hangs onto us all the time and it's hard to work because he insist on laying on my desk, in my lap, knocking everything off. He has never done this before. She always laid at my feet and talked to me and he laid up high. It's sad because he can't understand what's happened. She was his long-time partner.

I would be careful...I am facing court for just this right now, due to old debt that I started accruing, due to being quite desperate and broke, after my bankruptcy was filed. I can file again but probably won't and don't want to, but still have to deal with the courts, this week actually. can't wait. bankruptcy is not the end of the world. you can get a credit card again and you can work on your credit. It stays on your credit report for ten years. how long will it take you to pay off that debt???

He obviously wanted to be with her and you cannot fault him for that, I guess. It is never easy when someone in the family takes their own lives and those left behind never truly understand why or how that person was feeling inside. It is very hard, and I feel your pain. Cry, let it out, and then take God's hand. He will get you through it somehow. There will be a brighter day. They are together now. Maybe that will help some. God bless you and your family. {{{hugs}}}

I have my beliefs and you have yours, or disbeliefs in your case, and I am not going to argue with you about who is right and who is wrong. Time will tell that, in the end. and no one said anything about someone coming into your room on your deathbed and preaching to you, personally. It sounds like you are so opposed to it because you may actually be wrong about it more so than you just do not believe. Good luck to you.
My message above should have had SM as there is more

See message -- going it alone
Think of a younger family member.  Well everyone thought I was nuts to take my almost 18 year old nephew with me to San Francisco as I could not do the "night life" but we had a wonderful time.  never walked so much in my life.  We have always gotten along but he is so easy to travel with and appreciative of it.  Went to a Giants game, did the Fisherman's Wharf almost everyday.  Got lost.  Took wrong buses and it was so nice being with someone that never got upset, enjoyed the little things and went with the flow.  We talk about it all the time.   I gave him so much money every day which was out budget for meals and "fun things" and he saw how the money went and if we did not spend much for breakfast it left that much more for dinner or something "extra".  He had to figure out what the tips were, etc.  It was great -- I did not have to handle money at all, left it all up to him.  He read the maps and got us around with buses, etc.   It was also nice that I did not have to worry about someone drinking too much and ruining the next day which is what my ex did more times than not.  Saw everything down there.  There is why I am thinking of taking him (now 19) and his 17 year old brother to Boston with me.   So think of taking a younger family member that will enjoy it with you if you do want to share some special time with them.   There are a lot of great teenagers out there that do like to spend time with adults.

Hey, this happened to us just about a month ago. My hubby needed his ASAP!! I called the Records place in Kansas (where he was born) and they were willing to overnight it to me. Now, the total cost including the certificate was 36 dollars and we didn't get it until after 5 p.m. (could have paid more to get it before noon) on the 2nd day (ordered it on Tues, got here on Thurs), but I ordered it after 4 p.m. too, so you could probably get it faster. good luck!!!

I don't mean this to sound rude or harsh, but I would tell them to start saving up now for moving expenses in October. If they have the next four months to save, they could probably find another place to live and pay for security deposits and moving transportation, etc. This is not a good financial situation, it sounds like, and I really do not foresee acquiring a loan in time to purchase this home, not to mention them not being able to meet the payments if they do secure a loan. I would tell them to prepare for the inevitable now, so they are burdened with financial problems when the time arises, and it most likely will. To keep them from moving in with you, this would be the best route for all involved. It is not your responsibility to solve their problems. Good luck to you.

My friend just went through the same thing but because she didn't want to be alone, they stayed together until recently.  He was having an affair and the other lady divorced her husband which is when he decided he was not going to stay married to her.  I guess I'm saying this because I have seen what my friend has gone through with the other lady and if your husband feels that way, he might also find someone with the same interests.  It is better to separate/divorce before an affair than during/after, as in the case with my friend.  Good luck!

If you look at the end of the subject, before you click on it and it says NM at the end, that means there's no message inside. I hope that helps and didn't confuse you more.

Have you tried PetShed.com or other out of the country suppliers? I get mine for half the price. I also have several inside cats and this is much cheaper, even with shipping. Same pharmaceutical company making it, same med as in the US, just cheaper, because big pharma aren't buying the other countries.
sorry, there IS a message in there! sm

I too have an old cat, nearly 17. She has moved into my closet and spends time between my closet and my husband's closet. Odd behavior. She mews very loudly all the time and I don't think she sees well. I believe if the cat wanted to go out, I would let him. He might want to die and you "find" him afterwards rather than watch him die. Sorry about your cat. My Sam is not far behind I am afraid.
