i wouldnt do it again!
my first two believed in santa and  my last girl did to till she was about 6.  I really regreted telling her about santa because she was SO MAD that we LIED to her.  She was really really upset with us, not that there wasnt a santa but that we lied to her.  So, after that was over with we still celebrate christmas focused on Jesus.  They are still just as excited about christmas, they just know the truth.  she has to be careful though around her friends who believe!
we had a 5 & dime.
the wooden floors, rows and rows of fish bowls with the penny candy in them, the jars with the big pickles in them, the soda fountain.

We would walk to the movies in the evening, go to the 5&10 after for an ice cream cone and then walk home at midnight. Nobody worried about us. We could be gone for hours and not check in at home. No cell phones, no way to check in. My parents would say be home at a certain time and don't do anything stupid and off we'd go.

yes, your a lucky one....although i wouldnt like the

rules...i want to live away from people so we can do family things outside, listen to some nice music, barbeque...things like that w/o having to worry about the nextdoor neighbor dragging his wife out by her hair and fighting, screaming...just crazy stuff...one morning i woke up and thier house was trashed...tv was broken adn outside, pinic table turned over...later i asked their kids what had happened and mom and dad had been up fighting all night...GOOD GREIF!!!

Neisners five and dime
it came back to me late yesterday afternoon.  My mom worked there not kresgies though I have heard of kresgies.
My X never paid a dime - he still had his "rights." (sm)

You seem to be so afraid that you will lose all your rights.  Why would you think this?  I can't see how you would. Don't let him scare you.  If you can't afford a lawyer, go to Legal Aid.  They helped me immensely when my X refused to return kids after a visit.

That baby should not get a dime...this whole thing is just ridiculous
The baby should get 500 million dollars because her mom married an 87-year-old handicapped man for a year or so for the sole purpose of obtaining his money? Did anyone else hear Larry B. testify that when that video came out of Howard Marshall (the old man) saying he never told Anna he could have half his money) she became totally devastated, took all kinds of drugs, and immediately then went down to SC to try to hook up with some other very old very rich man??? She was something else, boy. You say she was smart but devious is more like it. Tell you what, if I was related to Howard Marshall, I'd be trying to prove the marriage was a sham because it was likely never consummated! I can't even believe the courts are dealing with this as a possibility. The first ruling was correct, she and her child should get absolutely nothing. Sorry. Just telling it like it is.
Wouldnt wear them even if my feet DIDNT

Sent and received sm
I thought about not sending any but glad I did. I was also going to wait to see who sent to me and immediately write one to them. Then I realized how foolish this was, got out last year's list and sent to everyone, bought the extra stamps and don't care whether I get one in return. No newsletter, hate them! Just feel better that I did it and freed up from it! Merry Christmas!
Received none, but instead of giving one (sm)
which I planned on doing, after seeing something on the news about them, I just decided to give cold, hard cash (no complaints, btw). Anyhow, the news story said that stores profit greatly from them since people lose or forget about them, or buy more than the value of the gift card. So, I decided to just buy 50 one-dollar bills for my son's GF for a better effect LOL.
Not sure about check that he/she received
Did say that it was $1,200 which is what the person would have gotten from the IRS as the stimulus payment, so I'm not sure how it was received earlier than everyone else.

You can always pick your friends your stuck with your family. An Xmas for me is where my husband and kids come home to. It is what you make it!
How many of you received gift cards....sm
and if you got them, were they to places you like to shop?  (As for me, I got 4 of them, 1 of which is a Visa debit card that I REALLY love since it can be used anywhere!).
I just read a letter I received from the SM

ASPCA thanking me for my membership and devotion.  The letter describes a gift they will be sending in appreciation.

They indicate a gift from "Miss Bea" will be comiing. They tell the story of this darling little dog who was locked in a closet with atrophied muscles from no exercise, etc. This dog was living with pounds of matter fur and living in urine and feces.

The letter went on to say that every time they go into the field to rescue an aminal people like me are with them.

I just needed to share this with you, and to urge you to donate to either the ASPCA or your local animal shelter in behalf of these defneseless animals. The level of cruelty and ignorance is apauling.

I am reduced to tears with emotion at this story, and the fact that I am so appreciated. Thanks for listening.

I recently received info
on ViaCord from registering at Babys R Us. I have heard of them before but not participated in such a thing myself. I'm sure they have information online or you could drop by any store and pick up a brochure. I have received it from other places too and this is the only one that I receive.
Best gifts given and/or received in the past? sm

I'd say my best gift I have ever given would have to be my DH's custom made leather wallet with his initials on it about 20 years ago.  He is still using it to this day!!  Cannot for the life of me remember how expensive or inexpensive it was then though but surely has tripled by now anyways, LOL!

Best gift I received wasn't actually Christmas gift.  I would say it was gifts for MT week several years ago. We got a package from our MTSO with a gift to open for each day of the week.  Small stuff but was a very nice gesture and tickled to have a new gift each day!  Oh those were the good times...........

I received the vaccination for swine flu in the 70s
as I had two small children to care for and I got SO sick from the vaccine I thought I was going to die. Won't take a vaccination for it again. Would rather take my chances in not getting the flu.
Does anybody know the details of when this will be received for us receiving SS?

Know it will be paid in the same manner, i.e., direct deposit, as you receive normal SS check.  But the timing is what I am asking about.

When deposited.  Know it is to be done before end of May, but just wondering what order or whatever they are paying this $250.00.

Summer. Friends or family? Family. Tired or Awake?
x
What a great topic! I just received an invitation that
stated "Regrets - and the phone number," so I assumed I did not have to call if I was coming. Thanks to all for putting me in my proper place and I will call tomorrow (because it is Easter today) and just confirm that I am attending. I had never received an invitation like that, so I am so happy I have you all to make sure my manners are in the right place!!!

Thanks and hugs!
I am so sad today, can't even work. I received an email sm

this morning from my son's father (we share custoday with him having physical custody) that my son will not be coming home for the summer. I can't argue with him or take him to court because he is my son's soul provider right now. I can't go into why, when, where, etc. Long story...

My son is still very young. We've waited all year for him to come home for the summer. He lives 1,000 miles away. He has 2 other siblings here.

He is just being spiteful. I spoke with my son a few nights ago and he was so excited about coming here. He wants to live here full time, but his dad won't let him. Now, his dad is keeping him from even coming down for the summer because he's so afraid that my son won't want to go back home.

So, because of one selfish person, we all have to suffer - me, my son, his siblings, his stepdad.  It's the most difficult situation ever to have to be in.  And there isn't anything I can do about it but pray that he change his mind!

I received this from one of my interns...Merry Christmas!
’Twas the night before Christmas
And in MT town
Tired MTs were longing
To lay their keys down.

Their earphones were hung
On their skull caps with care
In hopes that new words
Wouldn’t bring them despair.

Some in their sweatpants
And some in their tights
Had just settled down
For a long evening’s type.

When over their headsets
The sounds were so jumbled
They couldn’t quite make out
The words that were mumbled.

They hit the fast forward
Reverse, stop and slow
Trying to make out
The message below.

They checked in their Dorland’s,
Drug books and spellers,
Some called class buddies
Or even asked their fellers.
If they had an inkling
Of what the tape said

Or why someone was trying
To mess with their head.

When no one could answer
They listened less quick
And suddenly knew
The "doc" was St. Nick.

Now he spoke very plainly
Since they needed to hear
For his message was urgent
As Christmas drew near.

It was quite simple
No long words to spell
Dictated but heartfelt
And clear as a bell.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays
Best wishes and cheer
And thanks from Doc Santa
For your hard work all year

So cute. Received this email about kids and the sea. sm
Subject: Kids thoughts on the Ocean-cute

CHILDREN'S THOUGHTS ON THE SEA

This is a picture of an octopus. It has eight testicles. (Kelly age 6)

If you are surrounded by sea you are an island. If you don't have sea all round you, you are incontinent. (Wayne age 7)

Sharks are ugly and mean, and have big teeth, just like Emily Richardson. She's not my friend no more. (Kylie age 6)

A dolphin breaths through a butthole on the top of its head. (Billy age 8)

When ships had sails, they used to use the trade winds to cross the ocean. Sometimes, when the wind didn't blow, the sailors would whistle to make the wind come. My brother said they would have been better off eating beans. (William age 7)

I'm not going to write about the sea. My baby brother is always screaming and being sick, my Dad keeps shouting at my Mom, and my big sister has just got pregnant, so I can't think what to write. (Amy age 6)

Some fish are dangerous. Jellyfish can sting. Electric eels can give you a shock. They have to live in caves under the sea where I think they have to plug themselves into chargers. (Christopher age 7)

When you go swimming in the sea, it is very cold, and it makes my willy small. (Kevin age 8)

Something about a back injury that didn't allow her to work (but did allow her to carry 8 babies? Strong back....?) and she also gets some money for a couple of the first 6 kids who are disabled in one way or another (not sure of the details).

I just received a 1099 today, please see message, i have a question

This company sends my 1099 today and sent it in a BLACK envelope so you can't see the date it was stamped unless you put a flashlight behind the envelope and then you can barely see it.  Obviously this is late and is only for $310.  Do I have to show this to my tax guy?  Or is there someone I can get a hold of (BBB) about this?  This company was a joke.  I only worked three days for them (not going into the details).  Anyway, I think they were being very sneaky by sending it in a black envelope.

Thanks

Big difference between family values and family jewels, eh? lol

I need advice. Daughter received a frantic call from a friend, sm

Her friend is at a local sleepaway camp at a local university this week.  My daughter is 18, her friend is 17.  Anyway, the friend called my daughter telling her she had unprotected sex over the weekend (once) with her 17-year-old boyfriend (they claim it was the first time for each).  Anyway, the friend wanted my daughter to pick her up so that she could get a morning after pill.  I looked it up on line and anyone under 17 needs a prescription.  My daughter had come to me, asking me not to tell anyone.  I told her that she should have her friend call her mom.  She said her friend thought her mom would freak out if she found out.  We found a local clinic, but it is only open certain days of the week, and was closed yesterday, so she's going to try again tomorrow.  I've tried to get my daughter to convince her friend to call her mother, that she may freak in the beginning, but parents usually get over it and would want to know.

My dilemma is that my daughter told me this in confidence, and I want her to continue to be able to come to me with anything, yet I wonder if I should call the girl's mother and tell her that her daughter needs help.  Or, just wait until she goes to the clinic and pray that she isn't pregnant.

Does anyone have some advice?

For anyone who has received a stimulus check by mail, have you all gotten a letter about a week
before the check stating when it would be arriving.
A beautiful silk scarf - received one once from a doc, loved it! Plain and simple goes w/anything.
light enough to ship from a fancy dancy boutique.
hydrogen peroxide tips - received via email and thought i'd pass on. see inside.
*   This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana (a doctor's wife), and I
want to share it with you. She was over recently for coffee and smelled
the
bleach I was using to clean my toilet and counter tops. This is what she
told me.. I would like to tell you of the benefits of that plain little
ole
bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any drug store.
What
does bleach cost? My husband has been in the medical field for over 36
years, and most doctors don't tell you about peroxide. Have you ever
smelled
bleach in a doctor's office? NO!!! Why? Because it smells, and it is not
healthy! Ask the nurses who work in the doctor's offices, and ask them
if
they use bleach at home. They are wiser and know better! *
**
*Did you also know bleach was invented in the late 40's? It's chlorine,
Folks! And it was used to kill our troops. Peroxide was invented during
WWI
in the 20's. It was used to save and help cleanse the needs of our
troops
and hospitals. Please think about this. *
**
*1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle)
and
hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when
I
bathe.) No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter without
expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash. *
**
*2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of
germs. *
**
*3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and
leave
a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or
spray
it on the counters. *
**
*4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to
kill
salmonella and other bacteria. *
**
*5. I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of
peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let
dry. *
**
*6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes
several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal
with
any medicine but was healed by soaking in peroxide. *
**
*7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and
keep
it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system
like
bleach or most other disinfectants will. *
**
**
**
*8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture
whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and help to kill
the
bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into a tissue.
*
**
**
**
*9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right
away,
put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes
several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly. *
**
*10. And of course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the
50/50
solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will
not
have the peroxide-burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages but more
natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, faddish, or dirty
blonde.
It also lightens gradually, so it's not a drastic change. *
**
*11. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help rid boils,
fungus,
or other skin infections. *
**
*12. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of
whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing,
pour
it directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and
rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary. *
**
*13. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors. There is no smearing, which is
why
I love it so much for this. *
**
**
**
*I could go on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home should be
without!  With prices of most necessities rising, I'm glad there's a way
to
save tons of money in such a simple, healthy manner! *
**
*This information really woke me up. I hope you gain something from it,
too.
Pass it on!        *

Received a dx today of fibrocystic breast disease. Painful lumps in my breast. Going for a mammo
towards the end of the month. Anyone have any info on this disease?
family
No she did not have Daniel throughout his whole life but there were times when he shouldn't have been with her but her mother would not take him without money. She was living in a motel with a bfriend and Daniel. She was broke and it was not pretty she had some really rough times and she was not always the "playboy" girl she worked in some really raunchy clubs.

I dont know about a brother but it has been a long long time age I do remember meeting a "sister" once and lots of different "boyfriends". There was always someone with their hand out.

I give her mother the benefit of the doubt but look at how things are going and what her mother is doing. There have been lots of back and forths in Vergie and Nicki's relationship and none of it has EVER appeared loving. Nicki was not innocent but I think she grew up and moved on with her life and her mother still wants to talk about her little Vicki.

No one is perfect not me, not you neither was Nicki, but her past was her past and she needs to be laid to rest, she went to extremes to establish her wishes let her be. Nicki is gone but the baby is here and needs to be sheltered from all this hoopla!!!
when it is a family, the family tends to think

since an addition is being made to a family during pregnancy, a lot of families see themselves as pregnant - as one - as a whole unit...nothing wrong with it - actually makes the entire family participate in it, which is a GREAT thing............not like the men of the 1950s who went to work and the moms did absolutely  everything else....I like men/families who WANT to take part and be involved.

Old fashioned or not - I prefer the way the men participate today in all of it..........makes for better communication and all know what's going on in the family....

FYI to all, keep your old fashioned minds open because a closed mind will make you old WAY before your time.

There are 4 in our family and we each sm
get to pick one definite thing to do. My hubby says that is his pick. LOL
All the best for you and your family and keep..sm
Keep us posted here - I will remember your *handle* countrymt and will be on the lookout for your posts!!!
I have family down there
My husband is originally from Boston, and we go down about once a month or so for a few days to visit his parents, brother, etc. It's kind of like a second home for me!
Family
My heart goes out to you, as I too understand that kind of pain from family. Just know that it is not you that is causing this rift. It is your brother, not his wife even though it is obvious that she is doing the manipulating. Your brother should not be able to be manipulated so easily by his wife's insecurities and jealousy of your relationship. Unfortunately in life, and in families perceptions get screwed up with time, and distance, and if one does not hold true to their fondness of one another, or respect or what I call the family gene that holds a family together through thick or thin, then there is nothing you can do about this situation. He obviously cannot hold true to his feelings for you because of his wife's insecurities. Just let things be and don't become bitter or begin to cut yourself off. Sometimes things change down the road for the better.
re: family
Yes it is sad that the family unit is being seen less and less. Yes self control is a responsibility....but that comes from the Lord...that is a fruit of the Spirit...so what I'm saying is it is our sin nature to stray and we will be held accountable for that sin...the only way to be forgiven for it is to ask Jesus for forgiveness and accept Him as our Saviour...don't know if I'm wording this correctly....
I pray that you get what I'm trying to say that we all need Jesus...I pray that I worded correctly...
Yes, my family sm
DH and my mom didn't get along well (although she was quite controlling and wanting to run our lives after we got married, and I do understand where he was coming from). Eleven years ago we moved 300 miles away. Now I see my mom and other relatives only very occasionally. Luckily she can come see us once in a while. I have to beg DH to go there, and my vision is so bad I can't drive it myself.

I haven't been "home" in 2-1/2 years this time. And yeah, I regret it.

I miss my mom, my family and my friends. But DH is never gonna change, and I have 3 kids, and I'm stuck. :(
My family went to while once and after just
10 seconds inside my DD backed out. My DH valiantly stayed with her while I went through with DS. I asked before hand to make sure they could not touch me...that is my biggest fear also. They told me there was defintely a "No Touch Rule". My DH and DD told the guy at the front my name so I heard all through house my name being repeated in a very spooky voice. One "monster" did come right up to me and I just kept saying "no touch rule, no touch rule, no touch rule". He stuck to the rules and I did feel better after that. Needless to say DS loved every minute of it.
To you and your family
My heart goes out to you and all the people in CA dealing with this horrendous threat.  In the national news this a.m. (Wednesday) they stated conditions are improving in order for the firefighters to try to get in and attack these monstrous fires.  Best of luck to you all.  Keep us posted, if at all possible.
I have family there and know quite a bit about it. sm
Anything specific, such as area? Jobs?
family
Hey, Hayseed - You can adopt our family.  We have enough of this kind of stuff going on, we can keep you feeling "loved" for the rest of your life!  Seriously, have great nieces and nephew who desparately need to be loved.  Your're welcome any time.
Here's what we do in our family....
I work 2 jobs, my husband and son scrap for extra money. They go out the night before garbage day, or the morning of. We have a flat trailer that has different buckets on it and they sort everything they find. They have break down the big stuff into its components and smaller pieces. You would be amazed at what the scrap yards will take and how much they pay.
For my family
It has had an effect on some with job loss and problems finding a new job. Luckily for me and my hubs we have been able to hold ours. Gas prices are outrageous as well as groceries, I have noticed the same as you. We live in an area where you have to drive quite a distance for any work - hence my decision to work at home in transcription and take a paycut. Had I known nearly 10 years ago that it would cost so much in gas we wouldn't be living where we do...but that's hindsight and nothing I can do about that now. We have talked about selling our house and moving but that seems like a lost cause. Working at home has definitely payed
off as every time gas prices go up, in a roundabout way I feel like I have gotten a raise.

I am buying generic more often and we have cut back on junk food. No chips, ice cream, soda, anything. We just can't afford it. If I'm going to spend the money I want to spend it knowing we are getting nutrition packed in.

we also grew a garden this summer to help cut back on produce costs.
Very much like my family - 2 each + 1 together sm

My biological mom moved out of state when I was in 3rd grade, and my stepmom's first husband had died in a car accident. Plus my sister and stepbrother are less than 2 months' apart in age, which mostly didn't get noticed because she moved out of state with my mom while I stayed with my dad. The only thing that caused confusion was that my stepsister and I have almost identical names (similar first name, same middle name, last name with same first initial), and the oldest 4 of us all have names starting with M. When my brother was born, they gave him name starting with J
