In April I start getting retirement money

Posted By: More income yet on 2008-01-08

Ok, don’t tell me to ask my accountant, don’t have so thought I would ask here. I plan on continuing to work because I want to. I am in the 30% tax range. Normally I would pay $600 per month as an independent on my taxes. With the new income, I should be paying $750.00 a month and that would be what I am making now plus the new retirement, which, of course, is counted as income and I have to pay taxes on that. This is what I am thinking- taking the $500+ per month and now I only have to take bimonthly $125.00 per month and that with the $500 per month and pay my income taxes. Does anyone have any ways to make this money grow until I pay my taxes quarterly? Banking of any kind, CDs, bonds, whatever. Any ideas out there? Thanks.

For those people with school aged children when do vacations start to dwindle and you start getting
ready for school.  I usually take a vacation when things slow down at the end of Summer and I am just wondering when in August most people start getting into school things and less vacations are taken.
yes. you can pay in April, but--sm
you may get a small fine for not paying quarterly. I paid in April last year and my fine was 129.00. Just thought I would let you know that.
April --sm
Those of us that seem so negative and heavy, have no doubt been the ones to be used, abused, and hurt the most in relationships. Obviously, you have not had that experience yet, which would make you cautious in entering into any new relationship. Nobody likes to be hurt and in this day and age, trust should not be given easily. Even though you may know the person for some 20 years, as a poster below had mentioned, you never truly know what a person is like behind closed doors. When a person enters into a new relationship, the other person involved always puts their best foot forward. It may take years before the true personality shows itself. There is so much abuse in today's society, we have to do all we can to protect ourselves, emotionally and physically, and not to always take someone at face value. Those of us who answered with caution have no doubt been the ones to have been involved in those situations and we are just trying to help others keep their eyes open. I, for one, wish the OP a very happy future, but I also do not want to see anyone be hurt either. JMO.

as I know it - it's legal to pay in April...sm

you might want to just call any CPA's office or H&R Block office to ask that question and I don't think it varies state by state because it's the federales!  *grin*

As long as it is ALL paid in by 4/15 - I think you're 100% fine.  Why should they keep my $$ and use it all year? I can use it until then...*giggles*

April Fools
Our local radio station always has a April Fools joke and there are always a lot of people who actually believe it. After the first time I caught on and I laugh every year at those who believe it.

One year they said that everyone should turn in their money to the bank because we were going to be getting all new money and people actually went to the bank.

Last year they said there was a census going on and that everyone should take their recyclable bins, turn them upside down, and write the number of people who lived in the house. You wouldn't believe how many of my neighbors fell for it.

There were a lot more, but I can't think of them right now.
Although still working, SS for me starts in April
so does it say when you would have to be drawing it before you are available for the $250.00? Thanks.
april 1st computer worm?
I heard a blip on the radio -- is there something to be worried about?  Is it something Nortons software will handle?
What is your best April Fools joke?
I told my Hubby I was expecting. Everyone at work was telling me how great it was. Finally I told them Look Folks !!!! It's April Fools Day!!!!!

Three April fools jokes on me
When younger and in the Army I was told to go to the helicopter division and get some propeller wash. I did and they laughed. For those who don't know, propeller wash is the air that is created between the propeller blades when they are moving (in flight).

Next year I was told to go to the motor pool and get some infrared paint for the Captains jeep. I did and they laughed. No such thing, but they played along and asked if I had a clearance for it. Never mind the trips back and forth I made.

Third year I was told to go to the dispensary (medical facility) and get some cot splints for when we go out on alerts. Again no such thing and they all laughed.

Fourth year I told them not even to try anything anymore.
Anybody have any April's fool trick today?

In past years, my boss has tricked me; my exhusband tricked me (bad) and I got even.  It is noon EST and all I got was my local newspaper e mailing me their headline that BigFoot was spotted in a nearby swamp.  Hope that's all the tricks I get today... anybody got a good one to share? Happy April 1st!

In MHO when they start asking its time to start explaining.
My daughter and I started discussing the basics in like second or third grade.

Good luck it was much harder for me with my son.
April fools joke...Myra Maynes

This is my favorite.  I heard about it from a friend and tried it on my DH.  I left him a pretend message with the phone number and a lady named Myra Maynes.  The number was to our local funeral home.  This is what happened:

DH:  Hi, I got a call from Myra Maynes.

Funeral lady:  Who, hon?

DH:  Myra Maynes.

Funeral lady:  Well, I don't know a Myra Maynes but let me go ask one of those IRS people.  They are here today doing my audit.

Then she comes back on the line:  Hon, those IRS people say that you're doing an April Fools joke!  I just don't get it though.

This is totally true and totally not planned with the funeral home.  DH still didn't get it either until I explained MY REMAINS.  He was really mad at me, but I laughed so hard my bladder leaked!

Retirement...
Thanks so much, I definitely will sit down and figure it out before taking drastic measures.
retirement
You know....I don't know what I was thinking of! Double-dipping sounds very attractive right now..you guys are awesome, thanks.
Retirement?
Not me, I am going to die in my chair with my foot on the pedal unless I win the lottery!
How much money rasied for Katrina, how much money for the diasters due to the tidal waves and what?
Every single one of them have had some smoke around it with the money not getting to where it was supposed to go. I did not contribute, I hardly watched, was not caught up again as I have seen things like this before. They should give a all you can give benefit for Darfur where people are being massacared each and every day. Genocide going on there each and every day. I have not seen any benefits to help them out yet.
Patti, my retirement age is 67
not 64, not 66 and I think they are going up on the age requirements as I speak. As you probably know, folks living longer now and that is the reason behind that. I can draw social security now in 1 year and 10 months. Can we say goody, good and hope those fingers hold out!
The age for some retirement has changed
I am almost 65 (next March) and my retirement age is 67. It has gone up with people living longer and people born around my year and later will find their social security starts later than 65. I am still working and hope to continue- I have retirement money starting next April from place outsourced from (being independent contractor, that will probably pay part of my taxes for the month, ha!) I guess I should go ahead and contact SS so I can find out if and when I should sign up.
Past retirement age.
NM
Close to retirement age (for me), if you could would you
take a reduction of 6% on your social security if you could - mine starts at age 66 and next year I will be 65 so that late would only mean 6% off instead of full social by the age of 66. If you had a chance, would you do that or would you wait until full and then draw plus being able to work?
If I was close to retirement, then I'd
work in a flower or gift shop or even a coffee shop part-time.  It's hard to make any money doing this anymore since everything is either going low-pay/high ESL, or voice recognition, which in my opinion does not save your wrists, and you get paid less to do more as far as I'm concerned.  I'm in a bad mood today, can you tell?  Sorry to take it out on you, but you asked. I'm no where near retirement age by the way.
oh joy. there should be a retirement age, as in mandatory. NM
.
Having retirement, investments good but
what has happened recently with these as it pertains to the economy we are in? I worry because an elderly aunt of mine has investments which her son oversees but I have the feeling hers has probably dropped quite a bit. I have not asked but most have these days.
Retirement and info on MTs who are semi-retired
Ok, fellow workers, MTs has answered questions in the past for me. I am almost 64 and would like to be a part-time employee and get my social security; however it is of concern to me about how much a person can make a month and how many hours you are allowed to work. I hear money is taken from your SS check if you make over so much a month. I would get now $1500 plus a month from SS but I enjoy working and even work some overtime so just concerns. Anyone out there with any thoughts about this, sure would enjoy hearing from you. TIA
I am close to retirement age and got property taxes
just a few days ago, about $2,250.00- I called and asked if I got anything off when I reached another age, say 70 or so and was told in 2009 I will have reached the golden age of 65 and my taxes would be only about $800.00 per year! Good Golly Miss Molly, talk about good news! The school tax break comes through then for me. There are some good things that come with aging and this is one!
Retirement home/assisted living
Go to one of the retirement homes or the higher class assisted living complexes in your area that has a beauty shop in it and I bet dollars to doughnuts that they can give you what you want as that is how they do it for the ladies in those areas.
Mine hit 50% for me. So long, retirement dreams!

But her money is her money to spend as she pleases -
I don't understand how you can think it is wrong for her to spend whatever she wants to on whatever she buys. It is their personal money they spend. It is not like they are saying give me those shoes and add it to the taxpayer's bill.

And in all actuality, they are saying spend, spend, spend to get the economy going.

I am sorry, I am jealous that some people still have plenty of money to spend and I don't, but I don't expect those people to quit spending just because I had to.
Take animals to the Nursing Homes and Retirement Homes and Childrens Hospitals. NM

I think we are going to start having more
play dates with my sister's dog. She is an adorable mix that looks like a border collie, and my sister's hubby does not allow spoiling of mere dogs. Therefore, any time we have pet sit for them, this young dog has had a wonderful time, though Misha found her a bit, um, disrespectul to her queenliness, but it was just inexperienced puppy excitement My sister lives 5 minutes away, and it was my sister's idea. So when we go to a park, if I feel like doing 2 dogs, I'll go get her. When we want to go to a pet store or other more civilized place, then I'll just take my well-mannered Sasha.
Where to start. -
I have 2 teenage boys and yes I so agree with you there. If I have to tell them one more time to put a belt on that I do not want to see their underwear I am going to scream.

Another one is people who say K-Marts and Wal-Marts. There is no "s" on the end of these stores. I drives me crazy!
You know what I would start saying? (sm)
"Oh my goodness!! You better knock - one day you're gonna walk in and see me naked!! LOL! Maybe also put a little note on the door that says "please knock". that way it is to everyone and not just them.
I could start doing that...
We have a baby that still takes naps so it would be for everyone too...and especially knowing we have a little one they continue to do this anyways...barge right in and yell HELLO...good grief...can't wait until we move---LOL
Where does it start? sm
What I mean is, where is the line drawn between helping and enabling? I'm not talking drinking, etc. There's no drinking or drugs involved, just an 18 year old son who started community college because his h.s. grades were too bad for a four-year, hasn't made it to school on time more than a handful of times since September, finally got his driver's license (after our driving him to and from school 30 miles away for two months), and two weeks later totaled the car in a rollover. No ticket - he swerved to avoid a squirrel. He has no job, puts in an occasional application. But he's obviously not ready to live on his own. How do we know if we're helping or enabling him?
Well, where should I start?...sm

I love comedies and it's hard to choose just a couple.

The Birdcage

8 heads in a duffel bag

Sister Act

Meet the Parents

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (that's a given)

To Wong Foo

Stir Crazy

Bananas

Miss Congeniality

I could go on and on.... Cat

How do you start on that? I went there..

Do you just make a profile, introduce yourself, and then go on your own diet?  It seems like a good place to check back in for support.  Is there anything else there I didn't find?

Looking for help on where to start

what age did this start?
I am 42. My NP said that sometimes husbands refer their wives for hormones. I just told her at my house they just make fun of me until I realize that I am skipping off the cliff.
As soon as they start asking! sm
My mother never spoke to me about things when I was young. Maybe, if she had, I wouldn't have been a single mother in my teens.

I am completely honest with my kids about everything. What good does it do to lie? If some think it protects them, it won't.

My kids are all pretty much grown now but they have all told me that they appreciate my honesty about my past because it means more coming from someone who has been through it, not just telling them not to do something.

I trust my kids but I don't expect them to be perfect. There will be mistakes and errors in judgement, it happens.

Only one has gotten into any trouble (minor in possession) and has never had any trouble since then, graduated from high school, joined the military, and now married.

Trust me, I wasn't really comfortable talking about it with my kids but I felt I was doing them a favor and hopefully preventing them from the same or worse.
Where to start?

I could use some help finding a starting point.

Background:
Yesterday I called a friend and found out she is wanting to leave her DH. She has 2 kids. One 6 and one 2 yo.

Her complaints:

1. He will not spend any time with the kids.

2. He will not spend any time with her. He told her "Haven't you noticed when I have something to do (hunting or spending time with guys) I get off work at 2:30. When I have to be with you, I work until 6:30."

3. Money. They have not made their Jan. house payment, yet he has money to go out.

She has begged him to go to marriage counseling or at least talk to her about the problems. He refuses. She told him she was going to leave. He told her she was not and makes fun of her abut it.

OK, she wants to know some of the laws about leaving. Especially pertaining to taking the kids to another state. As far as I know there is no physical abuse. I would like to help her at least look up stuff online, if such stuff is indeed online. She does not have internet.

Where to start? Any advice? She wants to have her ducks in a row by the end of thie school year.

TIA

Here's a start...sm
See the link below and please read it carefully, by which I mean following the links in the article as well.

As for Obama's rep as the "abortion president", etc., perhaps you don't watch the news but I presume you know how to use Google and won't have any problem educating yourself on that score. And please remember, I don't sign the executive orders...he does.
Where do I start
Sorry to get you all excited, but I don't have the time or energy to go into it all now ... I will just say it all starts from noticing some things don't add up. You accidentally catch them and then just set out to prove it to yourself.
This will start a thread about who does not like her
but I was reminded when I saw your post about seeing Sylvia Browne in person 1 time. She said if someone toxic, no matter who they were, your own son, you should exclude them. I truly believe this to be the case.
It all has to start somewhere doesn't it?
xx
Maybe if you start a fire in your
fireplace, your swamp cooler will be more effective!

Either that or get a dehumidifier.

I hate humidity also, and here I am in NC. Would you believe that when people are sick they sometimes run HUMIDIFIERS HERE?? Makes no sense to me when they could just step outside most of the time, and we have enough fungus amongus, LOL.
Now he just came in and asked me to start over (sm)
He hugged me and said, "do you want to let's start over?" (which we have been through so many times) and I said, "how do we start over? I lose weight and get super-organized?" and he said, "Well, not SUPER organized."
Here in mid-TN they start the first of August, sm
Unfortunately, the temps have been 100+ and messing up the air-conditioning, so some school districts were just going half days, also no air-conditioning on buses.

Local university started classes today.
Where Did the MyBad start at?
I keep hearing the younger generation saying this and it isn't even proper english.Where did it start and When. What made me think of it I just seen a commercial for Macys and JS unpluged the radio and she said MyBad. I get onto my kids and Grandkids for saying it I tell them it isn't proper english and to talk right.I know its slang but dang its stupi*d.

Were you always in shape before that or did you start at 49? nm
