It was the OWNERS' fault for allowing the dog to run loose.

Posted By: San Francisco - sm on 2007-09-04
In Reply to: Something terrible happened today. I hit a dog in the street sm - I really feel horrible.

The fact that you didn't see him and ran over him was an accident. That accident wouldn't have occurred if those people had been responsible dog owners and kept him in a securely fenced yard.

Hmm, what does Florida not allowing have to do with ?
Does Florida allow more things then say the rest of the states or something? Please explain.
I agree. I think allowing any pet in a store, other than
It really makes women look ridiculously foo-foo. LOL
Then, they can widen the road by allowing God to come into their lives!

I handled it by quit allowing myself to be taken advantage of -sm
Just STOP doing it.  Doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different result borders on insanity!  They obviously do not value what is given, so stop doing it, save yourself the money and the heartache, and move on to more positive things to spend your energy on.
if pits get loose
It isn't in a pitbulls nature to be mean to humans. Now they can be aggressive towards other dogs, but that too often is mistaken as people aggression, but these are far two different things. If you get on a pitbulls property they are very protective & if they don't know you then you may get bit, but that's with any dog. If they get loose they aren't going to go around the neighborhood looking for somebody to attack, in fact if they are loose roaming around they are more scared of you then you are of them. Took us 3hrs to get a full-grown pitbull off the side of the road. Read his story here: http://www.dogster.com/dogs/600278
What if they accidentally got loose?
I know sometimes it is beyond your control and dogs get out. A board on your fence can break, the chain can break, whatever it may be. What if the pit got out and killed something or someone? That is what scares me about these dogs. If you are keeping it contained, good for you, but if it gets out and kills someone or something, you are responsible.
I am just about the loose my mind with these people.

used to just be the nextdoor neighbors, they are so trashy...same things, dogs..trash, beer bottles, heavy metal music, the mom screams and cusses and beats her kids right out in the front yard...all of it...they party in their garage...then the back looks like a desert of dog poop...(lived here for 2 years..) then last summer a new family moves in, they are just as big of drunks..now they all party together. well lastnight, we had it out, and I know i went overboard playing into their Jerry Springer conversations..but geeze, I am so angry and have decided to reclaim my space...lol

Octuplet mom has a few screws loose..
and really needs some psychiatric help. I read an article in one of the papers that her mother tried to get her some help regarding her obsession with babies. How sad for these poor children. I am quite sure the mother of these babies is looking for a reality show and some free goods and endorsements for her "miracle". The facility that implanted that many embryos in her should be closed down and she needs to sterilized.
That woman has a screw loose. And after the way - (sm)
she treated you (demanding money, banging on your door, saying you're 'rude', and then demanding to borrow a CD from you, I wouldn't even let her in the house again, let alone give her a CD. If you give her the CD, you'll never see it again, guaranteed. I'd tell her to get lost.

People who type loose when they mean lose. (nm)
x
do you have any loose neighbor kids running around?
lol.... never know...  my neighbors little boy last year took his crayola scissors to my hosta's.....geeze
you won't loose your cool if you state the facts
just as you did.  I have found in my life that everyone has to listen to me and take me seriously if I use no profanity what so ever (and don't yell).  Of course you should be upset, your child was assaulted by a bully.  I'd be all over that like white on rice!!!  Call her up, make her feel lousy for raising such a brute of a daughter.  Praise your child for being so wonderful.  Unfortunately, all we can tell our little ones is that the world is full of mean, angry others and we are so blessed to not have to behave that way.  Count your blessings for your sweet son, just love him and hug him all that much more.
Hubby thinks the animal has a loose screw
as he hisses and runs during the day but yet sometimes late of a night the cat will go to him, sniff around him and, although reserved still, is not the cat in the terrible 2s like during the day. My hubby thinks he has a mental problem (not my hubby, of course, but the cat!)
He is 100% at fault.
He agreed to park it on his property and it was stolen while on his watch. End of story. Yes, your husband perhaps should have taken care of things before he drove off for the night, BUT your BIL agreed to keep it for him. Yes, as the poster below stated, it is really no different than if he borrowed your car and it was stolen while in his possession. I would not let it go, they are plain out and out wrong. I do not understand how people sleep at night when they treat others that way, family to boot!

I truly hope you get something resolved. Good luck to you.
It's not the dog's fault
Why would you call them stupid dogs and then say you can't shoot them?? and you have a dog of your own. It's the pet owner's responsibility. The dog's don't bark just to annoy the neighbors. The owners should take responsibility or they shouldn't have dogs.
s
No....it isn't the dog's fault.

The OP was complaining of just barking.  I was complaining about a lot more than just barking.  My mother is 64 y/o, widowed, and suffers from MS.  She has a right to be able to walk in her yard without worrying about the neighbor's dog knocking her over, barking at her, tearing out her trash, or getting under her feet and making her fall.

I understand that it isn't the dog's fault but no matter how many times you call the Sherriff or the humane society.....nothing is done.  They still have the dogs and my mom still deals with it everyday.  She has no rights whatsoever to keep her yard animal free and she has to live like this.

I personally feel that anyone should have a right to shoot any stray animal on their property.  If pet owners aren't going to be responsible enough to keep their pets in their own yard, they have to live with the idea of someone shooting their pet.  I don't like other dogs on my property.  I don't allow my dog to go off of our property.

Not your fault sm
There is a program on called, "Intervention" and you may or may not get it in your area (on cable). It is a very sad but true reality show that deals with addiction. You didn't do it to him. He has this "go" factor in his brain that makes him want the drug more than anything else in the world and he will lie, cheat and steal to get it. If there is free counseling, get it or call NA and ask if there is a program you could go to yourself to learn how to deal with it. You can't go to AA for drugs unfortunately because they'll let you know right off the bat that it's for alcohol. There may be programs for multiple addictions you could attend. It all depends what tools you have wherever you live. Don't cushion his fall and don't be an enabler. I had to cut myself off from a brother I love dearly but he has to learn that I won't give him money, won't take his BS stories or anymore schemes. When I saw him last, I cried, he looked awful, but he did it to himself, the drug rules. There are many online chat rooms and I think if you Google "Recovery" or 12 step programs you may want to go in, sign in and just listen and at least get some feedback. You did not cause it and don't think for one moment you can cure it. The only one who can help your son is God and if you believe it, some power higher than himself. But he has to want it more than the drug. Intervenion may help. Don't enable him or he will reach a tragic end. Most of all, take care of yourself.
it's not all his fault

My dad is a teacher in California (I live in a different state) and has had 10 days per school year cut from his paycheck. The vacations are also longer during the school year as well. I don't understand the whole new office furniture purchase from your superintendent, but it sounds like your school system is just like everywhere else. Government-run systems/jobs have all had to make cuts, and schools seem to be the first that get screwed. All of the changes he has made probably stem from mandatory cuts he has to make to save money. Each school is going to be different how they implement them.

My husband's parents work for a government college and they are having the same problem with money. The college laid off so many people to save money. It is sad, but nothing can be done when it comes to mandatory cut backs. Hopefully things will change in the future, but it sounds like they are floundering to find ways to save money anyway the can.

Long arms, loose joints, narrow back.
I'm sort of the opposite of that Tauranosaurus rex complaning of his short arms and big head, LOL.

There isn't a part of my back I can't reach with at least the back of my hand. Poor DH has a huge area he can't reach. Good thing I'm around for him.

cardio is going to make you loose weight and slim down, weights
are going to give you more of a defined muscle tone. you still need the cardio to get your hr up, then do the weights immediately after while your hr is up, will work faster.
Cat owners, I need some ideas....sm

My daughter has 4 cats that live downstairs with her.  One of the cats has become sensitive to the food they're all eating and we need to feed her different food from the rest.   Any ideas how to keep her out of the other cats foods?   This cat can't be brought upstairs because my cat that is upstairs dislikes her strongly and beats her up whenever she has tried coming upstairs.  Thanks for any suggestions you may have!

No lease - have been here thru 2 owners, - sm
and am the only person left in the building who is still on month-to-month. Also, I never did sign any agreements with current management company - I still have my old lease from the original owners from back in 1990!
This site is now being run by new owners
The old owner of this site started her own board. There was a lot of posts about this before the list changed hands. It was also down for a few days.
Anyone else VW new beetle owners?

My husband just traded in my Miata (a birthday gift 2 years ago) for a VW Beetle for me. I loved the Miata, but I couldn't take my daughter in it since she's still in a booster and it only seats 2. What fun is that? I had been wanting a beetle since the new ones had come out and I can't believe he actually got me one! I love it. It's so fun to drive. Anyone else own one and how do you like it so far?

The owners who are not responsible are ...sm
the problem. I would be mad too if I went out and was approached by a pit bull who growled at me, and I own a pitbull. He should be kept in his owners yard or home. No dog, pit or otherwise, should be allowed to roam around the neighborhood.
I fully understand you being furious. I would be too.

hospital CEO's at fault too
Nurses not work when they are tired? Hospitals need to hire enough nurses so that won't be forced to work when they are tired- ARH nurses in our state are on strike right now fighting for this. about the Quaid babies, I agree the meds should be in totally different colored bottles.
You are saying to make up when you think not your fault?
I have done this before, a relative got very angry with me years ago and I told them if I could visit again I would never say anything to upset them again- if they said the sky was striped I would say, yes it was- that is what I had to do if I wanted to see them so I have done that- now having said that- he is upset about the fact he thinks I took his money and told me so. Why try to make amends when it would never be right in his eyes- he still feels slighted. An apology from me would not change his perspective on my having
so called cheated him out of what was due him.
Except FL has no fault divorce. Everything is 50/50.
nnnnnnnnnnnnnn
And it's not their fault you offend them.
But--this is another reason. It was very nicely explained, and yet the arguing continues. Sometimes you just need to state your opinion and move on. There are some you just won't win. Like this one--or the puppy mill one. Somtimes people just don't want to hear it, let alone hear it over and over again. Just step away from the situation.
how did i even imply it was his fault?
I was asking if it is something that can be worked out. Obviously this is my only long-term relationship. And what gave you the impression I "go out all the time". First of all I don't drink, at all. Secondly I NEVER went out until 2 years ago because he was in the Marines and I just stayed home all the time waiting for him and being worried... but you sound a lot like my mom, like if I am not married and popping out babies by the time I'm 30, I'm a total failure.

but that is not you daughters fault sm
that you had such a horrible life. I feel for you. I too had a pretty rough childhood but no way would I even think to make one of my kids pay for that. Sounds like you need some serious counseling or you are going to be one miserable lonely old lady.
Oops..you actually need to surround the key in a blob of the silicone so it doesn't work loose.

Any bunny rabbit pet owners out there? sm
Our bunny has a malocclused jaw and therefore she has a front tooth that continues to grow, having to be trimmed about once a month.  The vet says there's really nothing we can do to prevent this other than continue to encourage the rabbit to eat foods that would have her using her front tooth.  Have you encountered this and if so, did you find something that helped slow down the growth?   Thank you!
DH and I are first time cat owners as of Christmas!

DH and I are first time cat owners as of Christmas! We love our Sophie, she is a great cat. Since we are new to this, I'm looking for some advise.

We are leaving on vacation on Feb 23rd for Ireland and I'm just wanting to make sure I have everything in place for Sophie. Please let me know if I'm missing anything.

MIL will visit every other day (maybe everyday!) for litter box cleanings and playtime. I'm going to leave out 2 litter boxes.

I'll leave out lots of food and water, MIL will refill.

Leave the TV or radio on for some noise.

She is around 2 years old so she is still quite playfull. She has lots of toys laying around.

So am I missing anything? I just don't want her to freak out, but I think she will be ok with the MIL visits.

Thanks!

That is true but the owners who hire them
should be held accountable. The American roofing/contruction co owners that do not want to pay their share of tax or pay a descent wage to a legal worker should be held accountable. The immigrants working illegal are just trying to make a living. (Yes it's stealing and wrong and I do not approve. Especially when they bring their whole families here.) The owners of these company are the real cheats though. They buy big vans and pick them up and drop them off. It's horrible wages are so low for hourly workers now. :(
Any VW owners know price of a radiator & fan? (sm)

My car broke down this afternoon!  I heard a loud noise like I had run over something, pulled over and saw all the coolant and water pouring from my radiator.  The fan broke and a blade went into the radiator.  I pulled inrto the nearest repair shop (lucky for me one was really close) and they gave me an estimate of $1200!!!!  My husband had it towed to a mechanic he uses, but I am curious since my car is a VW how much should it cost to get this fixed??

once again OWNERS, if only we could ask the cats, I think the response would be different, NM

For the pet owners: Is pet insurance worth getting?
I know there are a lot of pet owners on the Gab board so I thought I would ask. I am wondering if pet insurance is worth getting? I have one 7-year-old kitty, a 2-year-old Pomeranian, and a 4-year-old chihuahua mix. Princess, my pom, broke her foot a couple of months ago by jumping about two feet to the concrete from my lap. I usually don't take her outside, and I think she just landed wrong. It cost me about $700 get her to the vet and have a splint put on and luckily it healed and she didn't need pins. I am really thinking about it because I know pets can get pretty expensive when you have to keep taking them to the vet. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.
They are very sweet dogs... it's all about the owners
That's what I think... ANY dog can become aggressive which is what I wish people would understand. Before we got our two current dogs, my boyfriend and I completely fell in love with a pitbull at the humane society. 3 days until I got my house, someone snatched her first. She was the most adoring, sweet dog I have ever encountered (besides the girl that I own now). But then one day we encountered a pitbull at the dog park, who had kind of "rough looking" owners, and my male dog went up to sniff the pit and kinda get playful, and i heard the guy snicker under his breath "you dont want to do that dog". like, telling my dog he doesn't want to mess with his. So I am a firm believer that it is ownership. You get the pit as a puppy and love it and cherish it and it and socialize it... or you leave it, hurt it, yell at it... it's gonna become what it knows...
To pit bull owners and defenders:

Two weeks ago in my city, an elderly demented man was found dead at home by his daughter's boyfriend when he returned home from work.  Autopsy confirmed that his death was caused by his daughter's and her boyfriend's 3 pit bulls. I'm sure this lady loved her dear father and believed the dogs were companions to him as he was home alone during the day.

I just can't understand the loyalty to this breed.  Why take chances when the outcome can be deadly?  This woman will be blaming herself for the rest of her life.

All dogs bite, but pit bulls don't stop until they have killed.

I meant before now- you sound like it's my fault
I mean I have never gotten in trouble before this. Yes - I work for an extremely strict company - if you are late more than 5 minutes twice in a 30 day period, it counts as an absence. I missed one day last week for my daughter having strep; prior to that I had missed one day in 7 months due to child illness. My employer says you have to have someone else to watch your child when they are sick
And I bet the divorces weren't her fault, either.
f
It is not my fault others get offended at my opinions
x
maybe it's the post office fault.
x
No, NOTHING makes it the woman's fault, BUT....
I don't think the woman has anything to do with whether a man cheats or not. Period. End of Story. Spare me the long sob story about how the woman *never put out* for her man.

That said...

If a person who has been cheated on just sits and lets nature take its course, almost always they are vindicated.

If Princess Diana had just let Charles be Charles, he would have become and STAYED the laughingstock of Britain. And she would have become Queen. (Okay, maybe not Queen, but she was then and is still an icon in Britain, and he would have never recovered from his cheating on her).

In looking at the John Edwards scandal - it's very similar. Elizabeth never did anything wrong. If she continues on that path until her death, ultimately John Edwards will probably NEVER recover politically speaking.

When you do the RIGHT thing instead of the convenient thing, you will ultimately be vindicated.
I also disagree that it is never the woman's fault.
I do not know what your circumstances are, but there are a lot of wives out there whose fault it is that their husbands leave them.

There is something I would never, never do and this is cheating with a married man.
This is downright despicable, ruining marriages.
Small dog owners Please Read my warning

Yesterday, a lady was driving down our hill with her little doxie in the front seat of the van. I don't think the dog was even a year old yet. Anyway, she sideswiped a telephone pole which put her out of control, her airbags went off, and she couldn't see with all that white powder flying around, and she wound up in a drainage ditch. When the airbags went off, they struck her dog and killed him. Although our neighbor is a nurse and tried CPR, the poor thing had broken ribs which probably punctured his lungs.

So, what I'm saying is if you're going to take your dog for rides, please put them in the back seat, preferably with doggie seat belts, not the front seat.  I could barely sleep last night over this.  I feel so bad for the poor dog. It didn't have to happen. The lady was so upset over it and feeling so guilty, it took us over 2 hours to get her calmed down.

Dog owners - recognizing partial seizures
After losing Misha to a brain tumor, I decided to post this to help others with dogs (sorry cat lovers - I did not research cats). Seizures beginning when a dog is young are almost always due to epilepsy, and it is very treatable. Unfortunately, seizures that begin when a dog is 5 or older is almost always either a brain tumor or some sort of serious infection in the brain. Either way, recognizing it early will help you have the confidence to insist on early treatment for the comfort and health of your pet.

Everybody knows the signs of a tonic-clonic seizure, but subtler seizures can confuse even vets. Know the signs of even focal/partial seizures:

Business owners are usually private citizens
and as such have right of refusal - I sure did when we had our own business.  If you see a potential problem you want to get it back out that door pronto.  Maybe the owner knew his clientele would not stand for OJ sitting in the restaurant and being served, etc., and believe that is his choice, his call.  If he has other patrons of different races, religions, etc., can't see he would be concerned about a law suit.  This is not even a religious matter or sexual discrimination - which is protected by law - OJ is hated still by many - his problem.
Yeah, poisoned by the owners, the sun and heat - sm
what total i*d*i*o*t*s - don't they know an autopsy will prove them wrong. I hope they owners both get locked up and heavily fined to boot. My own dogs are out a lot but I am home and when it is too hot they are in. Neither has ever had heatstroke. They have plenty of shade (they go under the deck sometimes and lay in the dirt, nice and cool down there) and water when they are outside. My neighbor has a boxer and has to be real careful with her dog, she has had one attack of heatstroke already this summer. Luckily she knows what to do as it happened once last summer; but it comes on very quick with boxers since they have such short snouts. Let us know what happens to the owners.
Dear Owners of Aggressive Pit Bull:
I've already called animal control on you once and reported him for cornering, and then trying to bite me.

Well guess what. I bought mace. Not the wimpy dog-park spray, either. This is law-enforcement grade. It's the real deal.

The next time that sorry, un-neutered son-of-a-biotch comes anywhere near me, he's getting not just a warning squirt, he's getting the entire bottle in his face, maybe enough to close up his throat and kill him. I sure hope it does.
