My dentist says SOFT toothbrush, never firm!

All these years, everyone thought stiff brushes were better than soft, and the harder and longer you brushed, the better. WRONG! I now have lots of cavity and root issues going on because I have essentially worn off much of the enamel on my teeth between the gumline and the center of the tooth. Have had to have more cavities filled, as well as lots of restorative work. Now I use a soft baby's toothbrush!

for 2 minutes AND you have to floss every day if not almost every single day. Also, what keeps your mouth very clean are those whitening strips! Because it is loaded with peroxide, it actually keeps your gums and gumlines from developing bacteria that causes gingivitis.

I used to get canker sores and sores in my mouth ALL THE TIME. After I started whitening my teeth regularly I haven't had a sore since. I bit the side of my cheek the other week and NOTHING surfaced from it. For years and years every time I would bite my lip or cheek it would develop into a nasty sore. I thank those Crest White Strips for keeping my mouth clean!
I have the Oral B electric toothbrush and love it.
I can't remember what model it is, but it has the little round toothbrush heads. It was recommended by my dentist (a family member), and we've been using it for years. My teeth definitely feel cleaner, rarely does anyone get cavities around here, and there is far less plaque, so easier cleaning. We all go to the dentist every six months, too. It helps to have a dentist in the family!

The security firm .... sm

was hired by her "interests" from what I can glean from just going and doing some quick searches, and if they're the ones ordering all the privacy stuff, then that goes on their bill, which in turn goes to her. I'll admit I haven't kept up on this closely, so I'm just going by doing some quick searches on Google news, (and of course, believe nothing you read and only half of what you see) but considering the news would dearly love to throw out the fact that taxpayers were paying for this, if it were true, then I would think it's probably true that this is all going on a nice big tab for her.

My cousin had the same kind of order years ago and I promise he got the hospital bill 30 days after getting out, so do you really think she won't, considering she's worth upwards of $40 million?

It's all a moot point, she needs help, hopefully she can get it, and get some modicum of normalcy back in her life, and move forward, and probably end up there again when the paparazzi once again gets her in their sights.

Had to laugh about the firm handshake
Our former pastor (okay, I can't seem to get away from religious topics and I promise this is not intentional)and his wife lived in Saudi Arabia several years ago while he trained race horses for kings (Not joking). His wife always gave a very firm handshake whenever she met someone new. There it seems to mean that the female is sexually attracted to the male whose hand she is shaking.

I am a firm beiever that it is all in the breeding and socializing of these breeds. SM
ThePit has certainly had a lot of bad publicity, and the Chow has a bit of the same rupturation, but I have known both of these breeds and they could not be sweeter. However, introducing the two might be a challenge. First and foremost, feeding time is dangerous when another dog is around. My neighbor's Chow/Golden mix attacked my friend's little toy poodle and almost killed her because she walked behind the dog when it was eating. It did not even attempt to take any food or go near the dish. The little Poodle was under the kitchen table and walked behind the Chow mix to go into the living room and that is all it took. If you have these two dogs together I would never attempt to give them treats or food when they are together. Just my view from a good source. Both these breeds are wonderful in their own right, but can be extremely territorial, and food is often what will ignite the situation.
That's what my dentist will say, too.

It's just $600 for a crown that my insurance won't cover.  Yikes!

My DH needs to go to the dentist, he refuses. We have been
married 18 years and he hasn't been since we've been married.   I told him I would make an appointment for him and the rest of the family to go and we'd do it all at once and he is adamant that he is NOT going.  I don't know why he doesn't want to go.  I know they will tell him he needs lots of work because he does.  His teeth are rotten, but stained badly and I feel like it is holding him back from advancing in the job market.  I'm going to make appointments tomorrow for the whole family and tell him he's going too.  He'll have to cancel the appointment if he's not going to go and I'm don't plan on telling him the name of the dentist (we are going to a new one since my kids have aged out of the pediatric dentist).
At next cleaning, would use another dentist
xx
It has already been discussed with the dentist and
her orthodontist. The damage comes from over use of any product, including those treatments one can receive in the dental office setting.
absolutely, but the dentist said that it is...
because of too much sugar and not brushing her teeth in the report. He said he stressed the importance of good oral hygeine, et cetera.
The dentist we go to charges

We have insurance.  Have you asked your primary care doctor if there is a clinic or something like that to take care of your husband's dental care?  It's worth a shot.  I had heard something about dentists in training offering cleaning and such for a much cheaper rate.  I think the obstacle would be if they found a cavity or whatever.  Good luck to you!  By the way, we are on the East Coast, so not sure if prices vary by region or not.

Update about dentist from below post sm
My dentist called me last night and apologized.  She is doing to write off the difference.  She was very nice and I told her I'm not one to complain and I'm not a cheat either.  So we worked out stuff and I will continue to go to her.
Excellent suggestion on the dentist
He has a cleaning scheduled in June (the soonest we could get him in without missing school) and at 17 he has never had a cavity. Well, the last time he was there was about 8 months ago so he was 16 then if we want to get technical. LOL! Whew, I finally slept last night. Definitely starting to feel a bit better, but I did make his fav. dinner last night, lasagna, and while he ate just fine, normally there are very few leftovers and not even half was eaten. DD suddenly decided yesterday she no longer likes lasagna so all she ate was salad and bread. I know my radar is up now and I will be picking everything apart. Watching what he eats, if he goes to the bathroom shortly after eating, etc. Even though this has been tough, I put my parents through so much more. I really owe them an apology.
you have got the ole stick it to the dentist syndrome
I paid that bill also and it is awful. Tell the dentist you want a different prize.
Does your dentist grope your chest?

Woodland, CA — The attorney for a Woodland dentist told jurors that his client massaged women's chests as part of a medical treatment.

Defense attorney Michael Rothschild told the six-man, six-woman Yolo County jury that Mark Anderson was treating his female clients for temporomandibular disorder, or TMD. The attorney says the condition affects the muscles of the upper body.

Anderson faces 19 felony charges for skin-to-skin contact and one misdemeanor for touching a patient's breasts over her clothing. The incidents occurred between February 2005 and his arrest in August 2007 and brought complaints from 14 women.

One of the initial 20 felonies was dropped Monday as Rothschild and Deputy District Attorney Robert Gorman began closing arguments.

Closing arguments were to continue Tuesday before the case was to go to the jury.

I would also opt for dentures. But get a really good dentist....sm
Sooner or later you will have to get dentures anyways, it looks like that.
Whatfor AL the pain and torture in between?
And do not accept dentures that do not fit or are uncomfortable. Send them back to the lab until the fit is perfect, this is your right, dentures are expensive and if they do not fit right, you will have all sorts of pain, headaches etc...
I had bridges done and I sent them back thrice until they fit, without extra charge. The fist set looked like a 'rollercoaster'!

It seems that you suffered your whole life from calcium deficiency.

your appt. (or don't call and cancel 24-hours ahead) But they had me sign a paper acknowledging that they told me this and that I agree to the terms. This sounds totally bogus and a scam to boot. Good luck.
Our dentist recommends Crest Whitestrips

My dentist also recommend Crest strips
She said she could do the whitening but it would yield no better result than an OTC product. Check the website too, they may have coupons available that you can print or sign up to receive by mail. I'm finding a lot of brand name product websites do this now.
I had ZOOM in my dentist's office and am very pleased.
I tried Crest White Strips but they didn't do anything. Zoom was pricey, but my teeth were really yellow. They are much, MUCH nicer. I maintain with a 45-minute bleach at home twice a week. Right after I had my teeth whitened, I received a lot of compliments, but people couldn't quite figure out what was different. I heard a lot of "Did you get your hair cut?" and "Did you get new glasses?" LOL.
Tell you dentist to put 'veneers' over your teeth, if you can afford it nm

soft paws - yes they work :)

Hi,

I moved recently, and we brought my daughter's cat with us.  There was no way we could do anything else with him.  He is an older cat, and they have grown up together.  We moved into a beautiful home, but there was no way I could bring myself to declaw him, especially at his age.  It just wasn't an option.  So, we researched what we could do for him, and we opted to "try" the Soft Paws.  Well, they have been a godsend for us.

Some advice - you do have to clip their nails before putting the paws on, so you need a good clippers and need to be very careful for the vein that runs through the claw.  If you are not comfortable trimming their nails, of course you could get it done professionally.  The plastic covers slip on and are glued over the clipped nails.  You do need to be very careful to get the proper size.  They go by weight, and my cat actually needed the large - he didn't meet the weight, but he is a bigger cat, and his feet are just bigger :P.  If they are too small, they come off very easily, and I think they are uncomfortable for the cat.  Also, they do need to be replaced about every 2 months - they fall off eventually as the nail grows out, and you need to repeat the process.  We find that it is worth it though, even with the little nail caps laying around on the floor occasionally!  :P

My "furkid" adapted very well to the soft paws... so I would definitely consider them as an option.  Hope this helped! :D

Yes, it is soft and scratches easy because...sm

bamboo is not really a wood, it is a grass turned into a *wood* - it scratches easily (kitty litter can scratch it) and so it's *shoes off* in my house.  *laughs*  I studied woods for 5 years before I made my choice, knowing all about it scratching easy but since my kids are ALL GROWN UP....no problem here.  *S*

Our husky is getting soft, he is really good - sm
about coming in when called for the most part (not when he lived with my dad though). But on the cooler nights he tends to drag his feet coming in. Or just give me a look from down where he is lying on the deck ( you know how husky's are) and you know he is thinking I will coming in when I am darned ready to. I then check back in 5 or so minutes and he will come in then, so funny. I usually leave the dogs out until I am going to bed (11-12) and he runs right in and lays down on his dog bed and goes right to sleep. Need to start walking him though, he gained like 10 pounds this last year and he is a big boy as it is (85#-- does not look overweight though which is good, still has a nice waist just a little thicker than it should be) and he only has 3 legs so that is not good for him (2 front, 1 back). Maybe after dinner now that it is starting to cool down, way too hot before with all his fur.
I think sometimes men are not supposed to have a soft side
some think of as not being masculine but he shows me a calming, soothing, softened touch that I could just eat out of his hand. If he could bottle and sell, women would make him rich beyond his wildest. He is from a very large family, 11 in all and get this- none of the guys (around 7 or so), all married and not 1 divorce in the group! I think that speaks volumes- the range of age is from around 60s down to the upper 40s. I accused him of sprinkling gold dust in my eyes because years later still have that same feeling!

Wow! I actually use medium, but not soft. I don't understand sm
how you have cavities due to a hard toothbrush? I mean, cavities are caused by not brushing.

And root issues due to a hard brush? Again, I'm not disputing what you are saying, but enamel and gums are two completely different things.

And 2 minutes is the minimum that you should brush your teeth. The only thing I will retract in my post is the firm brush - medium is good -soft for sensitive teeth.

If soft porn could possibly be more

I have a soft spot for this story. sm
My aunt went through a similar story. She had a highschool sweetheart, but the families couldn't get along. So, Aunt went off to college, met and married. Had 2 boys. HS sweetie went to different college, met and married, had 3 kids.

They met at 30th HS reunion. Both divorced and alone, children grown up. Both lived in different states so decided to write back and forth via email. After a couple years, they moved closer to one another and started dating. A year later they were married.

They were very happy together and planned their retirement time to spend traveling the country in their RV. They got 5 happy years together, including 1 year of retirement. Aunt got very ill and died suddenly.

Moral of story: Life is shorter than you think. Do the best you can with what you have.
It's true. My kids' dentist told me this yeas ago. sm
If the enamel is brushed away, it exposes the tooth first and they the root is invaded by the decay.

Gums should also be brushed as well as the tongue.

A dentist who does breast exams should lose his licence. Besides...
I categorily refuse manual breast exams. If I want to check fir cancer, I go for a mommogram.
My mom painted hers a soft gold color
in the family room, and it looks great. If you have built-in cabinets in the same room, sometimes you'll see contrasting colors used for the inside back, and that can look interesting.
Hmm, hard water versus soft
Well might have thought about that but this was noticed as soon as the tile installed and has never been mopped so nothing like that. Heavens only knows where these little spots came from but definitely not water route.
Fixing a flat (soft drink, that is)....... (sm)
I do this one all the time: Ever leave half a Coke in the fridge, only to come back later and it's FLAT? I simply open up a new one and add some in with the flat stuff, and the result is actually a smoother, yet still carbonated soft drink. And then you haven't wasted half a can.
