Does anyone know if New York City is extremely crowded on Black Friday? I'm going on a bus trip that day to do some shopping. Just curious if it was as crowded that day as it was the week before Christmas.

Planning a trip to New York City and
was looking for suggestions on a nice hotel to stay in and what are some of the best sites to see. Will only be there for four days at the end of May and want to cram as much in as possible.
Didn't she grow up in New York City?
What does she know about the South?
New York here also...hot....best way to go
in this weather is throw something on the grill, keeps cooking heat and mess outdoors.
Ewwwww! Thank God, NO, here in New York! nm

Gas $2.35 here in Upstate New York - NM

I go to New York every year...
and go to the special stores and get the real Coach bags for under $100 bucks. I have taken them to the Coach stores in our area and the sales people have verified they are real....I am going in May and have to pick up 5 for my girlfriends!
I'm upstate New York too -
I only lock my doors at night. For the first ten years we lived in our house, we had only one key and only used it when we came home from vacation.

Of course during the Saratoga track season, I get more careful. More burglaries in town.
I went to upstate New York and I could ...sm
detect an accent. Not a Bronx-like accent but a distinct accent. But then I'm from the south so I would have definitely noticed.
Here in New York State
My youngest in Kindergarten gets picked up at 9:00 and starts school at 9:30. My oldest in 9th grade gets picked up at 7:00 for school at 7:30. We have a lot of elementary schools. In our district it's one school for K-3, one school for 4-6, one for 7-9 and one 10-12. Also, we get two weeks for Christmas, one week for spring break in April (this week), plus they had Good Friday off, and one week in February (mid-winter break). I think we get out of school the latest of any State. The kids go to school until the end of June. I think they get way too much time off from school. We also have snow days together with 1-2 hour delays through the winter months in case of bad weather.
Here in New York State - school
isn't over until the 20th of June. I'm sure my daughter wishes she lives where you do. We don't go back until after Labor Day.
Leaving for New York tomorrow sm
with my family.  Watch for us in the Today Show audience.  I will be the one with the laptop so I won't fall behind in my work.    Just Kidding.
One of my favorite things in New York
Is this Middle Eastern chicken and rice pushcart outside the hilton hotel on 6th avenue and 55th(?). They are there from about 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is less than $5 for a huge plate, enough for 2. Really clean and very popular. Was a little leery the first time, but now go there every time I am in the Big Apple.
New York State Fair
My husband and I went once twenty one years ago, before we were married, and then just last year finally took our nearly-grown kids after getting tickets to see James Taylor there. We had a ball and plan to do it again this year - every year at Labor Day. It's about a 2-1/2 hour drive for us, and well worth the effort, though I think we're going to get a hotel room instead of making it all in one day this time.
It's in Verona, New York (Upstate) - NM

Freezing in Upstate New York
With the wind chill it's below O. A lot of snow too. I still have no idea why I live here! LOL.
Turn of the century in New York.
xx
That's the way the advanced classes are run here in New York State
She took 9th grade classes last year and she's taking 10th grade classes this year with the exception of the science classes where they bump you up to 12th grade. She's also taking geometry and loves it so far. (As the school year goes on things may change).
If it was my child, I would be at that school in a hot New York minute.
Regardless of what is or is not wrong with the child, that comment from the teacher is totally uncalled for and extremely unprofessional. A teacher should know better, period, end of discussion. And I agree with tnmt, ask for a meeting with the principle and teacher.
Nope, Missoui, Philly and New York

Funny, that's my exact same story here in New York! sm
I'll believe it when I see it, too. Also, with the feds, we were supposed to get $1,200 back - the feds said there was a mistake in the filing and now we OWE $1,100. That's some mistake, but we can't find it, nor can the software company that we used!
Totally freezing in upstate New York. sm
I live here because my daughter lives in Brooklyn and this way I get to see her about once a month. Moved from CA for it, but that might have been a bad idea. Every year I hate winter more. I HATE shoveling snow.
best city
Believe it or not, Cleveland, Ohio. I've lived all over the Midwest and East Coast and loved Chicago and Minneapolis, but the people in Cleveland were definitely the friendliest. Easy to make friends and cost of living was pretty decent. Also lots of fun night life and great museums.
Sex and the City is definitely up there at the top. nm

what city are you in? nm
nm
Know the city well, you can get 1 of the
weekly hotels and live from there. I would not like this situation at all- if he has worked there for awhile, just making until May should not make that much difference. Had home right in Atlanta and sold year before last, moved further towards Rex.
So he's never even been TO the city before? sm
Just from what you've posted, it sounds like he is sorely underprepared to take this job. No sales experience and never been to NYC, but taking a job doing cold-call sales in the toughest city? YIKES.
NYC is great city, full of life and energy, but man you have to be prepared.

LOTS of info can be found online, of course; just start Googling. Everything from maps of the subway system, to where to park, etc. Travel guides at the bookstore can help.
Seriously, what kind of a company gives the new guy the Manhattan territory? And then gives no informational support? The whole story gives me a bad feeling. Hopefully I'm just missing details.
sex and the City
I know some of us are working tonight, like me, but have any of you seen the movie sex and the City tonight and how was it?  I hope to see it this weekend between shifts.
Sex & the City, plus
1. Anything with Ben Stiller
2. Anything with Sarah Jessica Parker
3. Anything with Angelina Jolie
4. Anything with Madonna
5. Anything with Brad Pitt
I pay $85 in a big city, but she does spend 45 sm

minutes or so washing, cutting and styling may between chin and shoulder length hair.  Five minutes is ridiculous.  I don't see how they can even do a good job in that amount of time.

Yes, I know $85 is high (plus tip).  I have just had so many hack jobs at less money that I got scared and went to a trendier place in the city.

Is that the one where the girl goes to the inner city...
to live with her dad after her mom dies and she gets involved with the black student and she auditions for Julliard?
OMG - I love sex and the city
Just heard online today it is confirmed, they are making a movie. Can't wait
But is that not rural and not city
taxes? I had some property in the country, 200 something compared to my city home of over 2,000.
Not in city limits
We're about 2 miles out of town. Of course the town is 8500 people. A well known town, but small, nonetheless. :-)
City in illinois
Its Oswego. Lived around here forever
City in Illinois
I was going to put this on the state board for Illinois, but I noticed that no one's posted there in months.  The doctor is stating the patient worked at GE in s/l Owings, Illinois.  I googled cities in Illinois for the correct spelling and I can't find anything even close.  Any ideas?
I hate it too, even in my own city (sm)

I find that as I get older, it's not even a question of not seeing as well.  It's almost more like disorientation,if it's an area I'm kind of familiar with, but not really.  Like I will be not quite sure how much farther I have to go to the light and then when I get to the light, I'm not sure what cross street I'm at.  Sound funky.  Kind of hard to explain.

everything that is now gone, Sopranos, Sex and the City...
Love The Riches on FX. NetworkTV is too dumbed down, bad sitcoms (except 30 Rock and The Office, sometimes ok), bad dramas and overrated reality shows. And the soaps, fugetaboutit, UGH!
150 inhabitants? Is this really a city?...s/m
Are you the same person who posted this nasty reply to 'abc' on 11/16/08?

Now I can undertand that living in a VILLAGE (or BOX) with 150 people gives you a backward insight on a lot of issues.

It's just a nickname the city was given back in the 40's by
writer & journalist Herb Caen. To reflect the multiculturalism and exotic character of San Francisco he coined the term Baghdad by the Bay, and often referred to San Francisco that way.
Albuquerque is a beautiful city

It is at the foothills of the mountains, so you have mountains and desert both. The cost of living is relatively low. And Santa Fe and Taos are very close, so there are all kinds of opportunities to learn about arts and culture. There are the mountains for hiking and camping. And Gallup and Zuni Pueblo are not too far away. Lots of Native American culture, including the yearly ceremonials in Gallup.

Sorry, I don't know about the schools, except that the University of New Mexico is there. That's where my husband and I are planning to retire. We love the area and have visited there many times.

On the Oklahoma City page...
Garage Sale is listed in the For Sale column, on the right hand side just after Games and Toys (see link). What city are you trying to list under?
That would be me (poster) and as a NY City person....

and I HATE that press 1 for English and have told many corporations that - it should say *if you'd like to speak Spanish press 1; Creole press 2, Russian press 3, Hebrew press 4, Portugese press 5 and on and on and on so that we cover everybody....but for us, 3rd, 4th generation Americans, we should NOT have to press 1 for English - GALLS ME!

I think in California, they do choose to isolate more themselves via their cultures.....I do not see this here in S. Florida any longer - it's much better today, I think, and JMO.....(no flames please *lol*)

Oh, and if it's NOT a melting pot, it sure should be - and we should strive to live side-by-side, accepting of others choices (religion or any other personal choice as long as it doesn't hurt anybody), and all try to get along in a nation full of different cultures, religions, colors, languages.....just my opinion again....

Does your city have a fine if you get caught?

Does your city have a fine if you get caught? I don't know about mine. I don't think there's one, but I could be wrong.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The New York state Legislature has given final passage to a bill that would charge $250 for pet owners who don't pick up after their dogs in some parts of the state.

Dog owners currently have to pay $100 if they don't pick up the poop. The change would apply to the five boroughs of New York City, Albany and Yonkers.

The Assembly passed the bill Wednesday and the Senate had already passed it.

A spokesman for Gov. David Paterson said the governor will review the measure.

I'm in a large city and what you said is not true here.

We have a city ordinance about pit bulls
You have to provide proof of $100,000 insurance to have it; it cannot roam free; and anyone has the right to kill it if they feel they are under attack. If your pit is found running free, it is put down.

Pits do not have to be used for fighting to be aggressive. It is part of their nature - far more aggressive than other dogs.

Yes, I've had plenty of up close and personal experiences with pits that were friendly but that has nothing to do with their underlying aggressive nature.

Dangerous animal.
Fourth largest city in US
